In close proximity to the library lies the study hall. Whether you are a first year or a seventh year, a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, a boy or a girl, this room is the best place to go for your studying and homework completion needs. If you ever find yourself stuck on something or have no clue what you're doing, you can always ask those who you are studying with for help or the professor that is overseeing the study session.

Scattered around the room are groups of desks that make it perfect for you and your friends to collaboratively work together. Average-sized oil lamps have been strategically placed on the desks to create a calm, comfortable environment. In a neat pile in the centre of the desks are extra quills, bottles of ink, and spare parchment should you need it -- just remember to leave the quills and ink at the table and only use what you need for parchment. Under the windows a long bookshelf containing a copy of textbooks for each class can be found, which you are welcome to use during your time in this room.

Aurora had kept true to her word that she would help Solly with his studying. She had spent the last few days cooped up in the Ravenclaw Common Room surrounded by flashcards and scented gel pens and piles of textbooks, scribbling away to produce very neat but very colourful studying material for her closest boy friend. Her particular favourite were the Care of Magical Creatures cards in which she had glued (using the Sticking Charm she might add) on a picture of the creature on one side and produced a fact file on the other, kind of like a set of Top Trumps.

Into the study hall she bounced, hair tied up in a high ponytail like she meant business which was swishing back and forth as she walked. She found a seat at the back of the thankfully empty hall to await Solomon’s appearance. From out of her satchel did she produce the flashcards which she organised into piles on the desk in front of her ready to make a game out of them rather than reading back and forth. Everything was more fun when it became a competition.

Unfortunately Solomon didn’t match Aurora’s enthusiasm about the study sessions, despite previously being very much up for it, however he knew this would likely be the case. If he had known how much effort she had gone to then maybe his expression would read a bit more excited, but for now he was skulking about a bit, dragging his feet as he arrived with more pressing thoughts going on in his head. He did smile once he saw her, though, as he slumped down opposite. “Hey.” He exhaled loudly as he greeted her.

Immediately noticing the flash cards, Solomon’s eyes widened and he felt bad for his demeanour. “Oh, wow, you actually made the flashcards.” Maybe it could be fun, after all. Plus, spending time with Rora made the whole study thing a bit more exciting.

Quite used to Solomon’s grumpy attitude at times, the Ravenclaw didn’t react to the skulky walk and the slump other than to give him a cheery smile. “Hi! You made it.. I did think for a second that you might not want to study today seeing as it’s snowing outside and that’s waaaaay more exciting but.. I’m glad you’re here.” She was always glad for his company, even when he WAS in a mood.

Keeping to her word was a natural talent for Aurora. Well.. as long as she remembered that she had promised something anyway and this promise seemed like a kinda big deal considering Solly had mentioned how angry his Dad would be if he didn’t do well in his OWL’s. She had enjoyed the process, making the flashcards as pretty and colourful and interesting as possible whilst maintaining at least some useful information on each. They weren’t the most informative but they were FUN and she was proud of them. “Give them a sniff” the Ravenclaw excitedly exclaimed, sliding one of the piles directly in front of her Slytherin friend. “The purple ones smell like blackcurrants.” It reminded her of the Muggle drink her Ma used to give them as children but the name had escaped her memory. “Not very magical creature-y I know but I didn’t think you’d want cards that smelled like creature poop” she giggled.

What a relief it was that the study hall was presently empty, the other students wouldn’t be getting much studying done with Aurora’s loud mouth ringing across the room.

Solly had to remind himself that he had to make the most of hanging out with his friends before they all disappeared for the holidays. Sure, it wasn’t a really long break, but he dreaded it all the same, wondering just how he was going to entertain himself all day every day. He had noticed and been out in the snow before arriving here, but had shaken the flakes from his hair effectively since he’d left his trusty hat in the dormitory. Thankfully his hair had grown wild enough to keep his ears warm enough.

“Ah, yeah… and I’m a little late, I’m sorry.” He said after quickly glancing at a nearby clock. He was often late, though. “I’m surprised YOU weren’t more tempted by the snow, never mind me.” Finally he cracked a smirk. Given their excitable conversation about what to build in the snow the other day.

His eyebrow arched as she told him to sniff them. Strange request and he was always cautious when asked to sniff something, but he had full faith and trust in Aurora. He sniffed the purple one that she mentioned and widened his eyes in surprise. “Woah!! That’s seriously cool.” And he didn’t even like blueberries either.

Solomon exhaled a small puff of air from his nose, amused at her creature poop comment. He was such a typical boy for laughing at anything involving poop. “I’m sure blueberries are a favoured snack for many creatures. Will that be on the exam?” He grinned.

To be honest, Aurora had barely noticed whether Solly was late or not so that hadn’t crossed her mind. She wasn’t a clock watcher herself, it was more that she always had this ‘go’ attitude that meant she didn’t like to stay in one place for too long and often arrived at places early and found things to do to distract herself whilst she waited for others. If she didn’t do such a thing it was likely that SHE would be late for everything, getting there early prevented her from the numerous detentions she would be given otherwise. “It IS really pretty out there but I gathered that this is much more important. To you anyway.. and anything that’s important to my friends is important to me soooooo..” So there she was, completely snow free.

Scented gel pens would never not be fun. Even when she was old and (hopefully not) grey, she vowed that she would still be writing in pretty colours in birthday cards and invitations and whatever else old people wrote. She grinned as Solly agreed, picking up another different colour which smelled like pineapples which she wafted in front of the fifth year's nose.

What was likely to be on the exam or not was lost on the Ravenclaw. She could only hope that it was full of random facts and tidbits that she could recall off the top of her head but the truth of the matter was that it was likely all essays and complicated worded questions that would take her a while to process first. “I have no idea. But I guess it wouldn’t hurt to know what the diet of each creature is like whether they’re herbivores or carnivores because that WOULD help with their care.” And the clue was in the subject name.
