| Sssnakes Den: Common Room Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium Welcome to the Slytherin Common Room!
When you first enter the room, it may take a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim, green-tinted room. The stony walls are unusually tall for being in a dungeon. Green-hued lamps hover around the perimeter of the room. It seems a bit cold, dull, and damp, but the closer you stand next to the large fireplaces, the warmer you will get. Above the fireplaces are carvings in stone of large snake heads, so you never forget which House you belong to. Additional snake-like carvings slither their way around the fireplaces and along the walls of the room.
Leather couches and armchairs surround the different gathering areas that are accompanied by a fireplace. Various dark wooden tables with matching wooden chairs are set up around the common room as well, providing plenty of space to do your homework, read, study, or plot your next prank.
The windows, the few that exist, seem strangely dim. With a quick glance, you may think they're just insanely dirty. But every once in a while, you might see a fish flash by... or a kelpie... or perhaps a tentacle from the Giant Squid. That's right - you may be in the dungeons, but you share the underground with the creatures of the Black Lake, too.
Make yourself at home. You may want to bring a blanket. // graphics by the lovely hermionesclone //

Hogwarts RPG Name: Henrietta J. Han Slytherin Fourth Year Gryffindor | After a long and busy week, Etta found herself sitting at an empty table with her very own chess board she brought from home. Truth be told, she wasn’t very good at the game even after her friend Ezra taught her to play. Oddly enough, Henrietta enjoyed playing a game she wasn’t good at even if it meant playing on her own. Because it wasn’t about winning or losing, it was more of a way to clear her mind. Chess was like a puzzle in some ways and puzzles relaxed and challenged her mind.
With a deep sigh, Etta moved a piece before glancing at the window. There was so much going on in her head. Recently she began feeling blue unexpectedly. Finding herself a bit quieter than usual, Etta found the wizard’s chess pieces attacking each other after specific moves quite comical.
A giggle escaped her lips.
The youngling continued to fail and succeed at her own gameplay. |

The youngling continued to fail and succeed at her own gameplay. Drake had found himself with some free time and instead of infringing on Bryony and Aryan's time together, he'd opted to go down to the greenhouses by himself and get some digging done. He always loved doing that - the perfect way to spend an afternoon! And then once he was done, with some dirt left under his fingernails (despite the earlier handwashing) and some smudges on his cheek (which he'd failed to notice), he'd headed right back to the common room to figure out a way to pass the rest of his time. He probably could have stayed longer, but his tummy was rumbling so he'd needed to grab some snacks.
Walking through the entrance, chewing on a piece of jerky as he did so, Drake was still wondering what he was going to do with himself when an answer appeared in the form of another figure in the common room. With a pleased smile, he opened his mouth to greet his friend - before noticing she was playing wizard chess which he believed required concentration so he stopped himself from distracting her. Instead, the boy just tiiiiiiptoed across the room, sliding into the seat across from her and staring down at the gameboard too. "Whose winning?" he whispered, like that would make him less distracting. Heh.

"Whose winning?" he whispered, like that would make him less distracting. Heh. Etta had lost the track of time replaying the same game over and over again. She really enjoyed the intellectual challenge chess posed her. But it does get tedious after some time and by then she was feeling a bit fried from playing by herself. Heck, at some point she dissociated mid game. From that point forward she would purposely make wrong moves just to watch the chess pieces go at it with each other. A bit dark for the youngling, but it was fun.
Lost in thought once again, Etta sighed and stared at her gameboard. What was she upset about, really? Was the seasonal changes literally and figuratively getting to her? Being in the dungeons did not help with her blues, but at the same time she didn’t feel like going outside. Maybe for food, but she wasn’t feeling her best.
Hearing the whisper from across the table, Etta’s lips formed a smile as she looked up. ”My alter-ego, I’m afraid.” She teased, softly giggling. ”I’m not very good at chess.” She chuckled. ”Are you?” Etta smiled at Drake. Henrietta was fond of Drake, he was a very nice boy and he had a calm aura that made her feel at ease and comfortable. She very much considered him a good friend. |

Henrietta was fond of Drake, he was a very nice boy and he had a calm aura that made her feel at ease and comfortable. She very much considered him a good friend. Having approached quietly, it did give Drake some time to observe the gameplay. Which... he wasn't sure if it was because he didn't really know the rules of the game, or if he just was not a natural strategist - but it all seemed random and like the movements of the pieces didn't make much sense to him. But it was certainly entertaining when they entered each other's spaces and then smashed each other to smithereens. But they led him to wondering... was there a spell to make the pieces revert to their usual state again? Or was chess just the most expensive game to exist because you had to buy a new set every time?
That certainly would have been silly.
When he had broken the silence and Etta looked up at him, Drake returned her smile with a small laugh. "If it's your alter-ego, aren't you technically still winning?" Which would have meant she was good at chess! At the question though of his own skill, the second year's head quickly shook in a no - his hair bouncing from side to side as he did so. "I'm terrible at it. It takes too long and I get bored. Also, why does every piece move differently? This game was made to set us up for failure." In his own opinion.
Which speaking of, had he known how she saw him he would have been tickled! He liked Etta a lot too - felt a kindred spirit with her own shyness that often mirrored his. And of course she was also nice, even if her best friend intimidated him to no end. At least... he thought she and Sloane were best friends!

Etta scrunched her nose and grinned followed by a giggle, ”Touché.” She laughed softly. Though technically both her and her alter-ego would be losing if the game was being played correctly.
The youngling admired Drake’s hair, from the texture to the curl pattern. It was beautiful! ”Make total sense.” She nodded. ”I really only play it to pass time.” And clear her mind. ”It definitely makes you think a bit.” Etta giggled. ”Well, my friend, they are moving differently because I am not playing the game correctly.” A small bashful yet cunning grin. ”I just needed to clear my head. My friend Ezra taught me how to play, but I still have not acquired the skill to win. At least not competitively against an opponent.” She chuckled. ”And I like watching them smash each other.” Etta laughed softly. |

It was perhaps the truest form of a stalemate, considering Etta was technically winning and losing all at the same time!
The only person who had verbally complimented his hair, was Aryan, who often seemed to admire the boy’s curls. Which the encouragement from best friend certainly had given him confidence in his appearance - at least more than he had previously. Had he known Etta was a fan too, that perhaps would have just grown even more. “There’s nothing else you like to do to pass the time instead?” Like.. reading. Or drawing. Or gardening! The last one was the greatest use of time if one was to ask the boy. “Oh? I don’t even know enough about it to have noticed. How are you not playing right?” The pieces were moving… and backing each other… so wasn’t that correct? “The smashing as fun. But I bet it’s more fun when you’re also playing against someone else. I’m not good at it, but I’ll try a round if you want?” He grinned, wiggling himself in the seat he occupied to get a bit comfier.
