Library Stacks and Study Areas

A maze of thousands upon thousands of books, the library is heaven to any book-lover. Upon entering the high-ceilinged room, the smell of books, both ancient and new, hits you. There are many tall, narrow shelves neatly lined up, each divided into different sections -- charms, potions, Muggles, fiction, and so on. If you find a book you're interested in, simply make use of the sliding ladder or summon the book with Accio to retrieve it.

The library just isn't a labyrinth of books and limited to study and research. In the heart of the library resides a seating area or two designated for quiet reading and perhaps the occasional polite book discussion. Professor Gert has made it a point to refresh the nooks to encourage more use within the comfy space and provide a welcoming home for the Bookworms now under her care. All are welcome, of course, not just those who chose to get involved within the extracurriculars.

Scattered among and on the outskirts of it are tables and chairs designated for quiet research some with accompanying fireplaces or large stained glass windows. Tucked away in the very back of the library is the Restricted Section, which requires a key that the librarian keeps on his person at all times and permission to enter because of the more mature titles and content that are tightly locked and chained within. At the entrance stands the front desk where the school librarian can usually be found, who will happily recommend a book, check out a book for you, and help you with any of your library needs.

for Astrid (& Brandon)

By a coincidence in the form of lint, Mitsuki arrived at the library early. The study tables were mostly vacant, though one did have a stack of books on it and in front of one of the chairs which implied that that particular spot had been claimed, so the seventh year had her pick of tables. The choice was obvious, as it always ways, and she swiftly pivoted towards one of the study tables near a large stainglassed window depicting centaurs galloping across grass dotted with flowers in a sunlit wood. Her bag was set on one of the vacant chairs for now and walked over to the window to trace over the cames and commit the design further to memory.

The Fox would surely be along soon enough and hopefully with the homework he required assistance with in hand.

Brandon's alter ego had been flippant, insensitive, and carefree. And the real Brandon wasn't mean or insensitive whatsoever. But the... uniform dishevelment, the occasional lateness or absence... they had stayed. He lost his homework last week and cried.

He was a few minutes late to his scheduled meeting, and no doubt he was already yelling at himself about it. He'd just been so tired that he'd taken a nap in an empty classroom, and then he woke up and had to rush here. He didn't want to waste his precious tutoring time!! There had been a class concept that confused him last week!! He entered the library looking just as exhausted as he had before the nap, alert enough to notice Mitsuki but not enough to admire the windows. "Hi Mitsuki. Sorry I'm late. It won't happen again." He didn't think she would ask for an apology, but over-apologizing was a family trait that was very hard to break out of when he wasn't even thinking right.

That table and chair looked so comfortable...

Punctuality was not a trait Mitsuki particularly valued nor did she disregard it. She herself was not known for her punctuality as on any given day there would be a sign that guided her to stray the course. It was somewhat unbecoming of a seventh year, sometimes entirely missing a lesson to instead sit outside the Spirit Room or circumnavigate an entire floor leaving little piles of salt in various corners or atop particularly ornery portrait inhabitants, but it was the state of her existence and why would she falter?

So, upon his arrival, Mitsuki simply bowed her head in greeting and removed her slightly dusty finger from the stained glass window. "Nonsense. You arrived precisely as you meant to," she replied coolly and with the smallest hint of a smile. "Would you prefer we stand then?"

Since he wasn't sitting down and herself far from some authority figure who should dictate whether or not someone sat. These sessions were, after all, for his benefit and herself a humble maple leaf blowing with the breeze.

Brandon didn't mind a lack of punctuality in other people, but he disliked it in himself. He never knew what other people went through, the ways their minds worked, or the reasons for their lateness, but he knew himself and never found a reason why he should be late to things. He'd been slipping up, though, because he was so tired. He had to admit that sleeping was sometimes important... however much it bothered him to be late.

He bowed his head at Mitsuki back, grateful for her patience and the almost-smile she gave him. He started to relax. "Actually, I'd like to sit. We don't have to stand for the spell I'm trying to learn." And he was quite tired, so he pulled out a chair for himself. "Would you like to sit, too? Or will you remain standing?" He was happy to pull out a chair for her, or not, depending on her wishes.

Anyways... transfiguration. With Professor Carton, who Brandon really wanted to impress. "I've been learning this great spell to turn cloth into a hat," he explained. "But I wasn't paying enough attention during class... I've been so scattered and unfocused since being stuck in the mirror, and either my wand motion or pronunciation keeps coming out wrong... It makes the fabric into a tangled mess instead of a hat." Brandon preferred a hat to a tangled up, confusing piece of cloth... he preferred the original cloth over the messed-up version too. Why am I like this, he thought. And then, less negatively, Tutoring with Mitsuki helps me get the help that I need to catch up in my classes.
