She was a little to focused on the Goblet and wondering it it was going to burp out flames again to really pay much heed to anything else being said. Oops. It took a second for Fergersnout to process what had just happened to her as she stared back at the mischievous goblet. She reached up to touch her eyebrows, a relieved smile graced her lips as her fingertips met the hairs. Admittedly she would look a little bizarre without her brows, they were pivotal to her expressiveness after all. “Oh I’m fine, the goblet can be a little temperamental at times” she chortled, tapping the pesky thing with her wand a couple of times until its flames settled back into the slight flicker they had started as. “I wonder if this is still under warranty..” Not that she had a receipt.
———
Back to the matter at hand with a little more composure. She had imagined that there would be considerably more on the side of abolishing uniforms however the students didn’t appear to struggle providing answers otherwise. She listened intently to the debate, nodding when it felt appropriate and taking note of who was contributing or not. She understood that debating was not to everyone’s cup of tea, she hadn’t herself until she tried the debate society whilst at Hogwarts herself, but she felt it was an important exercise in both understanding others points of view and to experience how social issues were dealt with by the ICW. Thankfully she hadn’t been privy to any eye-rolling or disgruntled looks which was lucky for the students considering her classroom rules included no frowning.
Unfortunately, despite how much fun she was having, the time was ticking on towards lunchtime. “Sadly we are approaching the end of our lesson and we’ll need to wrap things up a bit.” No packing away your quills and notebooks quite yet though, the rumbling tummies would just have to wait. She had always found that in order for a younger generation to understand history, it was important to relate to how it had affected their daily lives. “Quickly before our time is over, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the International Confederation of Wizards. Is it still as appropriate as it was all those years ago when the statute first came into fruition? Do large scale conferences like the one we just held help to solve the issues Wizardkind have faced over the years or has the ICW hindered the development of the Wizarding World?” So many questions to consider, so little time.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Cameron Rhodes Ravenclaw Third Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Phoebe Calypso [s]Dupont[/s] Slytherin Sixth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Charlie Fox-Matthews Hufflepuff First Year | Which came first, the phoenix or the flame? Brandon was, once again, frowning. Not because of anything that had actually happened in class, but debates were stressful and he just... had been frowning a lot lately. Since last year. He had to admit, though- the debate was very interesting and he had a ton of new ideas about the topics they'd discussed.
Looking up from his notes, he raised his hand politely to answer Professor Fergersnout's question. "I think it's important to have an international confederation of wizards. Even if they don't always make the best possible decisions, they still encourage cooperation and discussion between different magical groups with different interests. I think that's a good thing." Communication was really important to keep people from fighting with each other all the time. |

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. What?
It was almost time for the lesson to wrap up? Ary had been so engrossed in all the ongoing discussions that he hadn’t noticed this fact. At least the professor was marked safe from any sort of injury from the little goblet. For her last set of questions, he mulled over his answer carefully. He even listened to a few replies before raising his own hand.
“I agree with Brandon but I am not sure that having too large a conference is a good thing. Too many opinions could lead to persons not being able to reach a solution to problems especially if the matters are pressing ones.” Yep, that was his take on the matter. |

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers This debate thing was interesting. Emma still wasn't sure she was persuasive enough to consider the extracurricular, but it was a nice sampling in today's class. Even if it seemed people like Eliza were blatantly disappointed with the side she was expected to take. As far as her? Well on the one hand she could be on board with ditching the school uniforms just like they did in the Harry Potter Movies. Without uniforms students would be allowed to showcase their creativity through fashion choices.Uniforms stifle creativity. Stifled creativity leads to unproductive studying. Although had she been on the other side of the argument, she could definitely argue that keeping uniforms helped to prevent bullying and eliminated the financial disparity that might separate students.
Huh, what? The end of lesson? Oops, she completely missed offering her two cents on the uniform question, but they had one more question it seemed ... not necessarily a debate, but an opinion. "Honestly, I'm not sure that the International Confederation of Wizards collectively represents the wizarding population. I mean like, are there people from all backgrounds and ages that serve on the confederation? If there are, then yes I think having them make decisions about the Wizarding World might make sense, but if there's not a wide range of backgrounds represented, I'd think maybe the decisions made wouldn't be an accurate representation of the wizarding world at large." Like someone who's 70 years old shouldn't be making decisions that affect 20 year olds as they'd be out of touch with what was important to the youth. So having a wide range of ages serving would help to close the generational gap and keep things current.

Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree was glad when the debate was over and even more so that the debate hadn't devolved into a screaming match. Debate was definitely not her thing, but she couldn't help but feel a little proud for taking that step outside her comfort zone. Not only had she done it, she argued points that went against her personal beliefs, and she took care to word those points in a kind way. All things considered, that was a win!
She half expected for class to be dismissed, but there was another question. This time she wasn't assigned a side, thank Merlin! She considered the question carefully. On the whole, she thought The International Confederation of Wizards was a good thing for the reasons Brandon mentioned, but it seemed to her that much of their action took place behind closed doors. Seemed strange for an organization meant to foster communication!
Ary made a good point about too many opinions hindering decisions, so much so that it made Desiree reconsider her own reasoning. She thought it might be useful for The International Confederation of Wizards to open up the lines of communication not just to its delegates but to the entire wizarding world. There was no way for one person to know every issue their country faced. A broader line of communication could fix that problem so that fewer incidents would fall through the cracks… but would it have the unintended effect of introducing too many opinions? Conflicted in her thoughts, Desiree kept quiet.

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Warranty? Well that certainly opened up another cornucopia of follow up questions that otherwise had Anna distracted from following through further with her opinion on uniforms. It was a shame too, because she realized that she was in favor of them and needing to argue against them was going to be a real healthy brain exercise. Instead the mishap with the goblet had her thoughts every shade of distracted, even bouncing back to the first discussion and things people had shared...specifically Brandon's mentioning of memory charms...
...why...did her thoughts keep coming back there? Why was, just like her finger tracing the rim of a button on her blouse, the thought of someone unjustly Obliviate-ing another person circling around and around and around in her thoughts? It was not uncommon for the Hufflepuffle to zone out in class and ascend through the heights of her imagination...but this was a little different. A slightly different glaze painted her eyes as incoherent flashes whipped through her view: an untied pink sneaker, a broken music box on the floor, shredded curtains, a white rabbit stuffed animal, a deep turquoise brocade rug with golden fringe...
Perhaps it was because her eyes had been held open for so long, perhaps some it was because of some other forgotten reason, but Anna's eyes began to water and as soon as a tear trickled down her cheek she snapped back into focus - and snapped SO much that she nearly fell backwards out of her chair. She didn't, thankfully, but she did slam her palms down on the table in front of her rather suddenly and with enough force that her palms turned a little pinkish.
Um...what were they talking about?

| HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more Listening to the students' opinions were important, at least to Fergersnout they were, although they’d never be examined on their own thoughts in their OWLs and NEWTs which was a real shame. There appeared to be mass agreement that some form of international regulation was critical for the stability of the Wizarding World. “It appears that time has betrayed us and we are at the end of the lesson. I am sure that you are all far more interested in filling your rumbling stomachs than listen to me rambling on. If you have enjoyed the debate today, I’d like to quickly remind you that Headmaster Winterbottom and I facilitate the Debate Club every Thursday afternoon and are more than happy to see new members join us.”
“Your homework shall be posted on the noticeboard this afternoon. You are dismissed.” OOC: Thank you so much for sticking with me through this lesson! I’ll keep the thread open for another 10-12 hours if you want to wrap things up.
