Default The Reptile Room

A short distance from Professor Paton's office/cabin there is a building that wasn't there before. From the outside it looks like an ordinary building if you paid no mind to the large sign above the door that said The Reptile Room. Or perhaps your eyes have already fallen upon one of the very large statues that sit on either side of the entrance to the building, a python and a lizard.

Once inside you will notice that the building is much larger than it appears from the outside. Every single creature has a tank/exhibit/area that is designed specifically for them and their needs and is large enough for their comfort even if it may not look like it. Remember children, magic is a beautiful thing. There are little cards on the glass of each tank with the species name, what abilities it has and whether or not the students are allowed to handle it.

If you would like to handle one of the creatures/or your own should you have one being housed here all you have to do is tap your wand against the glass and say "Alohomora". An area of glass large enough for you to get the creature in and out safely will open up for you. You may also help feed them, give them water or clean out their homes. All supplies are kept at the back area of the building and labeled neatly. There's also gloves handy in case you would like to use those as well.

SPOILER!!: Creatures housed inside The Reptile Room

Pythons
Albino Ball Python - Amie, Male, Five feet long, Four pounds {Professor Paton's Familiar, Non magical}
Snow Paradox Kenyan Sand Boa - Circe, Female {Melody Paton's, Non magical}

Strawberry Snow Corn Snake - Sherbert, Female {Vesper Thanatos, Non Magical}
The Blue Eyed Leucistic - Aspen , Female {Sage Ransom-Kruus', Non magical}
Rojos' Reticulating Premio Python - Grows up to five feet. If bitten by one you gain the power of luck. Its venom works like Liquid Luck. The effects last seven days. However once the seven days are up the bitten victim always falls extremely ill.
Sandaker Shrieking Slither - A snake/lizard. It has one pair of legs that it uses to drag itself across the ground but its tail helps it to swim. They eat Lacewing flies and their scales are used in certain potions that are intended to give one temporary intelligence. It shrieks whenever it gets frightened or upset.
Songsnake - Jafaar from Term 61 Lesson named by Rajesh Atreyu-Rehman. A small and mostly harmless snake that emits faint music from time to time
Songsnake - Emma from Term 61 Lesson named by Maria Kingstonsdottir Dolph. A small and mostly harmless snake that emits faint music from time to time.

Lizards
Chilayan Fire Dragon - Looks like a Komodo dragon but it breaths and it has a light sky blue mane. It can grow to be up to seven feet long.
Karma Chameleon - Benjee from Term 61 Lesson named by Jude Anders. A magical chameleon that mirrors its handler's attitude and emotional energy.
Moke - Minnie from Term 61 Lesson named by Desiree Marchand. A small lizard that grows up to ten inches long and has the ability to shrink at will.
Luminescent Lizard - A lizard that glows.
Golden Year Gecko - A gecko that is born silver and turns gold with age.
Firedrakes - Small flying lizards with long antennae, though they do not breathe fire but rather emit sparks from the ends of their tails.

Salamanders
Amazonian Salamander - Bruno from Term 63 Lesson named by Desiree Marchand
Fire Salamander - Hades from Term 63 Lesson named by Desiree Marchand
Frost Salamander - Elsa from Term 63 Lesson named by Desiree Marchand
Peruvian Salamander - Pepa from Term 63 Lesson named by Desiree Marchand
Many other unnamed Salamanders from the same lesson!

Tortoise
Hiroko's Tortoise - 350 lbs, can live up to 350 years. When it pulls its head and legs into its shell it disappears.
Tortoise Turtle - A creature that causes complete confusion by morphing between a tortoise form and turtle form every so often, so that no one is quite sure how to classify it other than as both.

With OWLs now finally looming just around the corner, Vera had reached the conclusion that she had learned everything over the past term she was possibly going to be able to learn. If at this point she was still missing any pieces of information, well... then it was what it was. Her brain was fried from how hard she'd been working over the course of the term and continuing to fry it before she had to try to recall any of the knowledge, just seemed entirely useless. So she was done. She was calling it. Whatever she got score wise based on the knowledge she now held, was it.

Which while terrifying to still think of that it might not be enough for what she wanted to do in the future, she also knew with her brother's help over the past year that she had a good chance of at least passing marks. Mind you, not high passing marks in probably anything except CoMC and DADA but... passing. Potions was really the only wild card but considering she'd had two tutors for that one, if she still couldn't pass the subject was entirely hopeless and she should just stop trying anyways.

With the determination to not think about any of it though for the rest of the afternoon, she'd led herself out of the castle and down to the reptile room, making her way first to the enclosure that held Sherbet so she could greet the little corn snake, before then going to her own rosy boa and opening it up so that she could reach in and let Sass slither her way up the girl's arm. "Hey you. I'm sorry I haven't been down here in a minute." With all of the distractions, both homework and otherwise, it was a crime how little time Ve had been spending with her familiar. "I'll leave you a nice mouse before I leave." She promised, using one finger to stroke down the shimmery scales.

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Brandon Fox had never liked snakes. He had never openly DISliked snakes, but he certainly was not a snakes kind of guy. He was more a thestrals, cats, and birds kind of guy. Until now, that is. A few months ago, he had decided that snakes were way cooler than any other animal and especially liked talking about them to those with a fear of snakes. But his appreciation for snakes went slightly beyond using them as conversation starters- he also liked to feed them mice. Sometimes. He also liked to look at their scales. He wondered if his sister would paint him some cool snakes. It was a shame he was ignoring her- that was inconvenient. He bet she'd draw him some snakes anyway though, whether he acknowledged her or not.

Brushing off both his classes and his schoolwork, he strolled into the reptile room to look at the snakes and some lizards. He was about to tap on the glass to make them move when he saw Vera with a snake on her WHOLE ARM. He smirked. "Cool snake. What's their name? Can I hold them?" Brandon would love to hold a snake. He bet he'd do it fine, anyways.
