| | Quidditch Pitch If you follow a winding path from the Training Grounds, eventually you will arrive at the Quidditch pitch. The oval structure itself is a rather remarkable sight to see as it stands at five hundred feet long and a hundred and eighty feed wide. Because of the popularity of the sport, the pitch is used quite regularly. Here tryouts are held, in addition to scheduled team practices and a number of inter-House matches throughout the term. When the pitch isn't booked, it is available for general use from anyone who wants to casually fly around or play various broom games.
The maintenance on the pitch is of utmost importance. The three silver goalposts at each end of the pitch are regularly polished so they shine brightly in the sunlight, and the white markings outlining the exterior of the pitch as well as the middle are regularly painted. During the fall, spring, and summer months, a lawn mower has been charmed to cut the grass of the pitch mid-morning every three days just after the dew has dried. When it is winter, the mower is set aside and a magical snow blower is used to clear up as much of the pitch as possible. To keep the pitch in prime condition, all are asked to do their part as well by not littering or vandalizing it in any way; otherwise there will be consequences to face.
Anyone who wishes to use the Quidditch pitch is allowed do so, but it is excepted that all rules regarding it are adhered to at all times and the curfew listed is followed. These rules can be found posted on the noticeboard at the entrance of the pitch.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Natasha Shenoy Slytherin Fourth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Andrea Bowen Gryffindor Fifth Year | Anna :3 SUMMER FOREVER Andrea’s most favourite place.
The gryffindor was busy zooming around on her new broom, which she did when she had some free time on her hands or needed to de-stress. And this broom - WOW. After some convincing, her parents had finally brought her a new one and it was so GOOD. She also took every available opportunity to show it off to her quidditch loving friends, obviously

After some convincing, her parents had finally brought her a new one and it was so GOOD. She also took every available opportunity to show it off to her quidditch loving friends, obviously Anna had a lot of favorite places at Hogwarts but could honestly say that the quidditch pitch was not exactly among those. She did like the grass though, some of the nicest grass at Hogwarts and that mostly because it was not a place meant to be tread upon often which meant that it was much more lush and soft. Anna, being as clumsy as she was, did not have the most stable relationships with brooms and her first year flying lessons had landed her in the hospital wing with a broken arm at one point and her tummy also got a bit flip floppy with heights. It was a bit of a selective fear and certainly did not prevent her from enjoying watching quidditch or people zipping around on their brooms.
As much as she did just want to lay in the grass her and watch the clouds, she also knew that her little sister would still be chomping at the bit to zip around on her new broom so she was skipping her way here in hopes of helping Andrea with a little bit of training. Maybe. She had read some things in a quidditch magazine she had found laying around the common room.
Cupping her face to block the sun, Anna watched from the ground as Andera zipped and zapped about the air. Probably best not to shout up at her in case it distracted her and she fell - and the Hufflepuffe's reflexes were not so great that she could cast Arresto Momemtum in time to spare her little sister the fall...nor was there any guarantee that she would perform the spell properly either. Imagine if she accidentally just...blew up Andrea's prized possession? She would NEVER forgive herself!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane Aubrey Knott Slytherin Fourth Year | For PhoenixRising Weekends at Hogwarts always seemed a little weird to Sloane. Obviously, any homework that had been given to her was done straight away, although that was mostly do to with the fact that she liked to keep busy rather than the homework itself. If she didn’t keep herself busy, she’d just end up spending the whole weekend in bed and that seemed like a waste, especially at Hogwarts. After dragging herself out of the bed, she quickly got dressed into some her older, more worn clothes and set out for the grounds to explore.
The views down the winding path towards the pitch were amazing on their own, but for some reason, the pitch, and the sport that was played there held some interest to her. Having never been one for sport of any kind, the lure of a magical sport sounded interesting! She’d heard word that it involved the flying of brooms and something about a load of flying basketball looking things but as of yet, she was yet to experience her first match. Making her way down onto the pitch, Sloane began walking around it, taking the whole stadium, from the stands to the large, silver goal posts at either end. She still didn’t think it would interest her all that much but if any sport did, it would surely would be this one.
With a gentle breeze blowing the short blades of glass under her trainers, Sloane headed out into the middle of the pitch the pitch into the sun light after doing several laps and sat down. Pulling her backpack around, she placed it in front of herself and began pulling out some food that she’d stashed from breakfast. |

Her father being a former quidditch captain and professional, she was practically raised on the sport. It wasn't as if she could try out for the team in her first year anyway, but that didn't mean she wouldn't spend some weekends outdoors while the weather was still nice.
Stepping out onto the pitch, she tried to imagine her father in this very spot, taking a deep breath just as she noticed someone her age having a picnic??? It didn't take the blond long before she strode over to the other girl and was about tell her off, except she had never really been that type of girl. "Don't leave crumbs. Wouldn't want a gnome infestation to tear up the pitch."

Wait ... was she being serious about gnomes? Emma had never been great with sarcasm and unfortunately things like that always went overhead. "Uh ya.... of course gnomes are a thing and they're terrible for quidditch pitches. My father told me all about it. And they're notorious for recking basically anything with green." Was this girl a muggleborn or something? Probably. "Well except maybe slytherin robes. But like I mean anything outside. Gardens, quidditch pitches ... that's why de-gnoming is such an important skill." And horribly irritating punishment for basically any kid. "I'm not sure protocol of picnics on the pitch, but I suppose if you share half your sandwich, I won't tell." Unless it accidentally slipped out and for that, she was truly sorry if it happened.

Having never seen a game of Quidditch, her only experience with the sport coming from what other people had said in passing, Sloane really didn’t have much to offer on this so she simply shrugged before taking a bite of her sandwich. “Huh. There’s a lot of green here. You’d think that the little crumbs that I’m dropping wouldn’t make a bit of difference because the green grass would be enough of a draw but…what do I know?” Chew Chew
Chew
De-gnoming…was…a…skill? What even was de-gnoming? She was about to ask for further information when the first year Hufflepuff tried to blackmail her. “Y’know, I don’t know the rules on picnicking here but I feel fairly certain that trying to blackmail someone isn’t like, something that’s accepted here.” Did she not know that there’s always a load of food in the Great Hall? Like, for free? Why did she want one of her sandwiches? “Why don’t you try asking nicely, hopefully with a please attached to it, and I’ll see if I can spare half of my sandwich? Sound good hun?” Her head, tilted to one side now, her innocent, try me smile there for all the gnomes to see. |

Okay so apparently Emma wasn't very good at explaining herself since the other girl didn't seem to understand. "No.. um ... i guess I just mean they'd be drawn in by the crumbs. So like once they get the crumbs they'd just go to town. There's been quidditch matches delayed for HOURS because of a gnome infestation."
She was doing a terrible job explaining herself. And now she'd even went to make it seem like she was blackmailing the girl??? Wait? She was just hungry and she hadn't exactly made friends with any house elves to sneak her extra food from the kitchens. Where'd this girl get the sandwich anyway? Also how'd she forget her manners? She was typically better than that. "I ... " was speechless at the girl's sass. "Are you like ... muggleborn or something?" Cause like she never heard of de-gnoming or the rules about the quidditch pitch picnicking so maybe. "I'm sorry. I think I got a little overzealous. See my father was very proactive about us not eating on the quidditch pitch ... but just so you know, the name is Emma, not hun."

Sloane watched with amusement as the girl almost seemed to get slightly tongue-tied as she replied. One of the pros that came with hangout with adults all of the time was that you pick up a few quick retorts although that was one of the few positives. Nodding, she finishes her first sandwich, picked up a few of the crumbs, threw them in the foil that had been keeping her sandwiches safe and then rolled it into a ball and threw it back into her backpack. "Huh. I guess you make a valid point." It wasn't like she intended to mess with this pitch or whatever, although Quiddditch would be a lot more fun with gnomes running around on the pitch. "so explain this to me. Why is a match postponed for gnomes which are on the ground...if the match is played in the air? That makes no sense at all".
Noticing the speechless expression, Sloane actually laughed and waved her hand in the air. "It's fine. I mean, it's not because you kind of were rude and did try and blackmail me but that's pretty cool honestly." Someone who could walk up to another stranger, act all rude and then try and blackmail them was okay in Sloane's book. "I'm muggleborn, yeah," although she didn't really appreciate the question. Frowning a little, she shrugged and continued "I don't see how that should make a difference though If I am." In reality, she knew it would make a bit of a difference because she simply knew less than those who had lived in the wizarding world for longer, but she wasn't ready to admit that, especially right now. "It's nice to meet you, hun. My name's Sloane." Ooops. That had slipped out, accidentally on purpose. She did hold out a sandwich for Emma however as a peace offering. |

Of course she made a valid point. If there was one thing she learned thus far in her short (almost twelve years) life it was to clean up after yourself. That actually was a valid point though that this other girl was making and made Emma stop to think. Why had her father (and other quidditch players) always seemed upset about it? "I think ... maybe because the match starts on the ground when all the players come out on the pitch. And like sports are meant to be watched, so there's something about an aesthetically pleasing playing field to draw the crowds." She shrugged.
Wait what. It was cool? They were cool? She shook her head. "It doesn't make a difference, just ... that you seemed surprise about gnomes and de-gnoming. Although it is kind of funny when you think about it..." she mused. But figured that the girl probably wouldn't understand so she ought to explain. "Just cause like, you're a slytherin and notoriously the slytherin founder frowned upon muggle-borns. And I'm pureblood and in hufflepuff who's founder basically accepted everyone." Also funny cause once upon a time her father disliked hufflepuffs and somehow he ended up with two children in the house. "Nice to meet ya, ... Sloane." She accepted the sandwich. "So how'd you know quidditch was played in the air. Did you read about it?" Or had she inadvertently blabbered on about it. Honestly sometimes she rambled and forgot what she even was saying

Honestly sometimes she rambled and forgot what she even was saying Sloane nodded and considered this for a moment. She wasn’t one to blindly argue her point if she was wrong. She was far more likely to change tack and argue another point that was right. “So they throw these little gnomes out of their homes all because they want to walk out on the pitch? That seems a bit mean, don’t you think? I don’t see why they can’t start it in the air,” she says as though she’s seen a game of Quidditch in her life. In truth, the closest she’d came to seeing a game was watching a few people fly around the pitch. “Maybe it would make the grass look nicer but…I dunno…” She couldn’t really elaborate on this or find the right words to explain how she felt about it. She kind of liked gardens that were a little bit rougher, with grass and weeds here and there and little creatures and critters roaming around. “Well in that case, I am a muggleborn. I’ve never actually seen a game before,” she finally admitted. Sloane went a little quiet as she considered the fact that most Slytherin’s weren’t typically muggleborn and just shrugged a little, unsure what to say to that. She didn’t really feel a particular way about it, although that was mostly because hadn’t come to Hogwarts with a house, she wanted to be in. She honestly still didn’t know much about the other houses at all. She knew her friends and some of her house mates and they were all okay. “I guess sometimes, it doesn’t matter what you are. You just get put places and do things and break the mould or help set it more.”
Grabbing another sandwich and taking a bite, she didn’t answer straight away, she was after all hungry and actually wanted to eat some of the food she’d brought for herself. After a few seconds and a few more bites, she did eventually answer. “Like I said, I’ve never seen a game. I have seen a few people fly here though so I just kind of assumed that it was played up in the air, y’know? Kind of makes sense. And also, a few people have talked about it around me so…” and whilst she’d done her best to avoid the conversations, she’d managed to catch some of it. |

Emma sighed, really wishing her father was here to explain all this. "Well the quidditch pitch isn't meant to be their home. That's the thing." She frowned, shaking her head. "I guess like people want the sports fields to be all aesthetically pleasing. They don't want the roughness of a wildflower patch." She shrugged. It wasn't really for the players so much as the fans, from her understanding.
Her eyes bulged. "Well it's kind of like football, but played on broomsticks... and well, you're just going to have to come to a match with me next summer! That's not really an option. I mean I know you'll see matches at Hogwarts but it's definitely not the same as professional." She nodded about the breaking the mould. "I like that. We're making history right here, right now too." "Oh it is played in the air. They just can't actually start in the air." she grinned, which didn't really make sense but kind of did. But maybe that was just cause she'd grown up watching the sport so it was familiar to her. She took another bite of sandwich, chewing thoughtfully.

But maybe that was just cause she'd grown up watching the sport so it was familiar to her. She took another bite of sandwich, chewing thoughtfully. Sloane sort of understood that the pitch wasn’t supposed to be the home of the gnomes but if was their home, should they be thrown out just for a sport that’s mostly played in the air. It just seemed…wrong. “I think a wildflower patch is exactly what the sport needs really,” although she wasn’t going to hold her breath in any changes to the sport being made anytime soon.
Frowning at the way Emma seemed to react to her answer, she did her best to listen but there was just something about the sport that made her brain switch off whenever someone tried to explain the sport to her. “Maybe I’ll try and watch a game this year, although it wasn’t exactly a priority. She’d rather learn how to do something actually fun and interesting, like paint. As for breaking history, “I guess we are. Real important stuff, sitting on the pitch eating food.” It may have sounded like sarcasm but Sloane was a big foodie. If there were food venders at the Quidditch game, she may actually turn up, if only for the food. “Well that’s silly. They could just start in the air instead and leave the gnomes alone,” because it didn’t seem like too much to ask. “Either way, I’ll bring my rubbish with me when I leave, even if I don’t like the sport.” |
