| | |  Pit of Slugs
 One of the less travelled corridors will eventually take you to perhaps the least popular place located in the dungeons. Looking forward, it appears that there is a flight of stairs at the end of the corridor. Indeed, there is. But as you get closer, you realize that there is a bit of an obstacle in your way. A small set of stairs leads you downward into a pit full of slugs, big and small. By the looks of it, this nasty infestation has been here for a very long time.
At this point, there are really only two options for you to choose from: either turn around and head back down the way you came or make friends with the sluggish residents of the pit and walk through the thick slime to get to the staircase beyond. Should you decide to do the latter, tread carefully unless you want to find yourself covered from head to toe in the lime green goo that covers the stone floor or adopt a number of slugs as hair accessories. On the plus side, at least you now know where to find an endless supply of slugs should you need them for Potions class.

When tasked with gathering ingredients for Potions, Gilly knew where to go. Truthfully, doing such a task was something she didn't mind. She had found several reliable places over the past handful of months to look for common items for potions whenever they were not allowed to simply use what was kept in the storeroom.
The Cure for Boils seemed like a simple enough potion to brew, based on the recipe alone. With Professor Adara providing them with the snake fangs, porcupine quills, and shrake spines, she assumed getting their hands on the rest of the ingredients wouldn't be too difficult. She had charged Drake with the task of going to the greenhouses to get plenty of nettles, pungous onions, and ginger root. All that was left was collecting horned slugs and flobberworm mucus.
Having enlisted Bryony and Aryan, she led them through less travelled corridors. She figured the pit would be the easiest place to find the kind of slugs they'd need. "So we need to look specifically for horned slugs. We don't want the regular kind," she informed them as the pit came into view. "Then after we can head to the grounds to look for flobberworms so we can bottle up their mucus."

When it came to needing potions ingredients for her lessons or to practice her brewing skills, Bryony didn't mind asking her siblings or mama for what she needed if she didn't have it. Normally she used what was provided by their Professor and did her best to keep her own supplies stocked up.. but hey, she was only a first year and things happened sometimes. She tried her best!
So when Gilly asked both Ary and her to go along with her to collect some slugs and things for potions, Bry didn't say no. Might as well all go together and stock up on her supplies too. Pluuuuuuus... this could lead to an adventure!
"With the three of us looking for them, we should be able to find loads of them rather quickly," especially once they get their hands on them. The small blonde had no trouble with picking up slugs. "Those are easy. We can use the flobberworms in the barn." There were plenty in there and she was sure her mama wouldn't mind at all.

Ary found that he loved going on mini missions with his friends. This was why Gilly recruited him for help, he readily agreed. There was something more rewarding about gathering ingredients and he wanted to help Gilly with that. So, he joined the other two Slytherins in heading to the Pit of Slugs, a place that he sorta, kinda found disgusting yet fascinating at the same time.
Flobberworm mucus would be easy to source, because like Bry said, there were a few of the creatures in the barn. “Too bad we don’t knows how to do the Summoning Charm. Woulds be easier to get the horned slugs.” Ary stopped at the edge of the pit and peered into it, trying his best to ignore the green goop all around the corridor. “Gots any plan to get thems out?” Ary wrinkled his nose at the various sized slugs wriggling around in the pit.
This was going to be a challenge it seemed. | |

The curly-haired brunette was in agreement with Bryony about collecting enough slugs being easy with the three of them collaborating. She was also rather pleased to hear the suggestion about going down to the barn for the flobberworm mucus. That hadn't been considered in her mind; she was more than prepared to venture down to the shore of the lake. "Sure your mum won't mind?" The answer she was certain of, but it never hurt to ask.
A firm nod of her head was given in response to Ary's comment about the Summoning Charm. It certainly would have made things significantly easier. "It's a shame that it isn't in the curriculum until fourth year," Gilly sighed. "Unless, of course, we start practising on our own..." Truthfully, that was something she wouldn't mind doing. Already she was ahead in the material for their current year, so a few more years above them couldn't have been that difficult.
As for how they were going to get the horned slugs out of the pit, she had to admit that they didn't have very many options considering their bank of spells was, at present, fairly limited. "We go in," she replied simply, taking a few steps down the stairs and into the slime pit. "Watch your step."

What's he means he found out? Hadn't he known this forever now? Bry had been dragging him around on all her adventures whenever she could through the years. Or didn't that count cause it was her and he would do anything for her? Yeah, that actually made sense. Bry was spoiled by her inseparable life with Ary. As long as he was there, she was okay.
There was a shake of long blonde hair, that went flying all about her face as she spoke."Nopes, mama won't mind at all. As long as no flobberworms is hurt while we gets what we need." That was the rule. No harming or upsetting the creatures at all. And Bry didn't see how they would do either of those by just collecting some of the flobberworm mucus.
"Mm' I'd say I can nag Logan to teach us buuuuuuut he might actually attempt to hang me by my feet or something if I try right now..." her nose crinkled up in displeasure at not being able to go to him for help.
Gilly's proclamation of them going in the pit to get the slugs, didn't bother her one bit. "Kay'" she nodded her head, glancing at Ary knowing he wouldn't enjoy it. "If you don't want to come in, you can hold the containers for us." That way they wouldn't get the containers all slimy!
Without any thought of it, Bry made her way down the steps slowly and into the slug pit, bending down to scoop up the first slug she saw and lifting it up in her cupped hands, the slime oozing through her fingers. "Aaawww, lookit! So cute!"

Knowing Aunty Hady, she would not mind at all about the trio securing the flobberworm mucus from the flobberworms in the barn so Gilly needn’t worry about that. Bry put his thoughts about the subject into words. See? Aunty Hady was the coolest professor ever. Also, it would be great fun to extract the mucus from the flobberworms.
He knew exactly what Gilly meant though, when she spoke about practicing spells higher than their year one curriculum. “I dids a few second years ones but that’s about it. Kinda inspires me to practice that ones next.” You know what, Ary will do exactly that later today. He wasn’t completely sure about wanting to take lessons from Logan. The Gryffindor would probably get impatient with Ary at least should the first year was highly unlikely to succeed with the spell on the first few tries.
That much had been expected: that the Slytherin firsties would trek into the pit. Ary didn’t mind; he rarely minded disgusting stuff involving creatures. In fact, he was actually keen on meeting a few slugs. Such a variety there was! Which was why he gave Bry a confused look. What wouldn’t he want to descend into the slimy depts of the pit? He brought up the rear, having followed the girls. “So manys!” he exclaimed, his eyes wide.

A nod was given to acknowledge the fact that their flobberworm mucus collection task would be significantly easier with the approval of Bryony's mother. Ensuring that no creatures would be harmed or upset by the extraction seemed simple enough. Gilly personally didn't have much hands-on experience with too many creatures, but she knew that they'd all be in good hands. Plus it would be nice to extend the visit a little and browse around at the other critters.
She shrugged at the mention of the older Paton. Her dormmate had shared plenty about how the Gryffindor had been quite preoccupied this year with studying. Why that was an issue, she didn't fully understand. Nevertheless, she had the following to offer: "Maybe once his exams are over he'd be willing to teach us a thing or two. Otherwise there's nothing we can't learn ourselves from a book." She knew Aryan would back her up on that one.
When it came to trekking through a slime slug pit, Gilly was indifferent. She didn't like it, but she also didn't dislike it -- as long as she didn't get slime in her hair, she would be fine. What she could infer with certainly, though, was that she was not as enthralled with the slugs as her two friends were. "We need to collect sixteen total, since we'll each need four," she spoke as she carefully shuffled through the slime and bent over to pick up a rather chunky horned slug.

Might be a little excited now at the thought of going out to the barn to see the other creatures. Even if they were going out there to collect flobberworm mucus, that didn't mean that she couldn't stop in and see some of her very favorite (she loved them all!) creatures.
Bry shrugged her own shoulders. Sometimes it was easier for her to learn something when she saw someone else do it first or if it was explained out loud to her and then she could give it a try. Plus, that was better than just reading the same thing over and over again and hoping she was saying the incantations correctly. Not that she didn't actually study her own books by herself, she just preferred to study with someone else. It was more fun.
Already standing in the pit, Bry only caught that look from Ary as she had turned to watch him come down the steps. She flashed him a bright smile before her attention went right back to the slug in her hands. "That shouldn't be an issue." Between the three of them, they would have that many in no time at all.

Gilly was right: she would be in good hands while collecting Flobberworm mucus. Not only because of Aunty Hady but also because of Ary and Bry, both of whom happened to be reasonable when it came to most creatures. With regard to Logan… yes, Ary completely had Gilly’s back on this. There was a vigorous nod of his head to indicate as much in response to her words. He just hoped he hadn’t offended Bry in the process. Just to be on the safe side, he gave her an apologetic look.
Ary would have rather liked to stay there all day admiring the slugs. There was something about the way they wiggled; it was absolutely spellbinding to watch. Hadn’t it been for Gilly’s reminder about them each gathering four, he just might have stood there forever. “Four. Gots ya.’’ And the boy happily went about the task.
His first capture? A slick slug that kept wiggling about in this palms, which it had been temporarily encased it. The movements tickled which made him chuckle softly. | |
