Newly 15 and equipped with a new little tote bag that had a rainbow design made out of sequins that when you ran your finger over one way turned silver and then the other way went back to rainbow, Anna speed walked into the girls' bathroom feeling both impish and sheepish. It wasn't LIKE her to feel sheepish, especially over appearances, and it really would make the most sense to ask her dormmates for help figuring out what all these bits and bobs were[ or with Aurora...but maybe a part of her was hoping Myrtle would make an appearance and know what all these things were and then she could be taught by a ghost. Myrtle had been haunting the loos of Hogwarts forEVER now so surely she knew loads about these girlish things.

Scampering over to the sink, the Hufflepuffle unzipped the case and kind of just STARED down at the array of options. She was pretty sure she knew what it all was, she had observed mum and her older cousin apply makeup before...not to mention older girls around the common room. But it was like watching someone cast a Patronus Charm, you could watch someone do so with effortless grace and then when you went to try it yourself your wand shot right out of your hand and flung itself across the room and smacked into the wall but thankfully did not snap in half or chip or blister. She appreciated mum giving her this first makeup kit and even hand selecting a few things for her but...now what?

Pushing some of the tubes and cases around, her eyes fell on something kind of peachy and softly shiny shimmery looking. Seemed as good a place to start as anything else...but...what was it for? "...highlighter..." she read aloud and turned the tiny square compact over in her hand. There was nothing that came with it to apply it, though maybe some of those loose brushes in the bag were for that purpose, so it seemed as logical as anything else to use her finger to put it on. So...that's what she started doing, pinky finger across the tightly packed powered and then...nose? Eyes? Where? She just...kind of stared at herself in the mirror feeling overwhelmed.

"Um....Myrtle? You...you wouldn't happen to be around...would you?" she called into the echo chamber that was the girls' bathroom currently.

Alissa really needed to use the bathroom. Or the loo, as her new classmates would call it. She didn't think she would ever get used to that. Except maybe she would. She wasn't sure. What would she consider normal three years from now that she found so new now?

That wasn't really what was on the top of Alissa's mind right now, though. What was at the top of her mind was speeding to the nearest bathroom as quickly as possible. She was not running, she was just walking with a purpose. It was just that she had been reading and gotten so caught up in the story that she hadn't noticed how badly she had to go until she really had to go. The only thing on the door she noticed was the girls bathroom indicator and she sped through it and into a stall without a second thought. She did catch a glimpse of another girl already there, but she didn't have time for anything further at the moment.

A minute and a half later she felt much better. Alissa exited the stall with much less urgency than she had entered it and walked at a normal speed to the sinks. The other girl was still there. Liss knew she had seen her before, but she had seen a lot of new people and it was hard to keep them all straight. She gave the other girl a friendly smile as she turned on the tap to wash her hands. "Hello. What are you doing?"

The sudden and urgent opening of the door was enought o give the Hufflepuffle a bit of a surprised jolt, nothing that made her squeak or make any sort of sound that might seem like she was about to jump out of her skin but enough to elevate her heart rate so it was doing a bit of galloping and heavy thumping inside of her chest. Her curls were blocking most of her peripheral vision, so she didn't quite see who had come in. Though, to be fair to her curls, Anna was looking more upwards expecting to see a ghost descending from the ceiling or swooping out from one of the toilets wailing and certainly not looking towards the actual human entrance. So, to say she was a little disappointed when it became apparent that there was a fellow human was not entirely true but she was still holding out a bit for Myrtle to make an appearance - the third fourth year was still holding out for the ghost to make an appearance.

The bit of shimmery powder still on her finger, little flecks of sparkle wafting into the air, she still wasn't quite sure where all this was meant to go when her mysterious guests revealed themselves properly and in a way where their reflection in the mirror before her that was no hidden by her fluffy hair. Before anything was said between them, she offered the other girl a smile and immediately wiggled a bit to the side to give her more room at the sink right beside her - even though there were plenty of other sinks to choose from. "Hi," she smiled a little wider and wiggled her sparkly finger at both their reflections in the mirror. "Oh...I'm just trying to figure out all THIS stuff," she explained with a little wave of her non-sparkly-fingered- hand at the bag from her mum. "Do you know how to use any of it? Do you know what this stuff is? Do I put it on my eyes or cheeks or lips of nose? Could you teach me?"

Alissa grinned at the other girl in the mirror when she greeted her. It was kind of fun looking through the mirror when she was also standing next to her. She did notice the sparkle on her fingers when she wiggled them and thought it looked pretty cool. Her own fingers were boringly devoid of sprinkles, and not just because she was currently washing them. She finished washing and tried her hands before turning properly toward the other girl and the bag she was looking at. She scooted a little closer to peer inside it.

"Hmm. I know what some of it is." She looked closer at the little compact the girl was holding. "I don't know what that is though. Highlighter?" She read from the label. "The only definition of that word I know is the colorful thing you use on paper. But not in the makeup sense."

Anna was very accustomed to not knowing how things worked and just generally being clueless about many things. It rarely bothered her but there was just something about not understanding how make-up worked that felt troublesome and maybe even a little...demeaning? It was such a silly notion to even consider but there was a tingle of that happening up and down her spine and eliciting a little bit of a chill through the young Hufflepuffle. There was a great comfort in knowing that she was not alone and in good company though!

"Same," she laughed while looking at her finger and the shimmer upon it. "I was thinking that...maybe it was something you put on your eyes because people always say that eyes are the windows to the soul and it only seems natural that one would want to highlight those...but then what is the difference between it and eyeshadow when some of the eyeshadow options are also pretty sparkly and soft in hue?" AND did one even use their fingers to apply it? Anna was starting to seriously doubt it. "What about...some of these pencil things? I...don't suppose they are meant for you to write self affirmations and other things to yourself with...and it is probably really hard writing on your skin too...since skin is not as flat and smooth as paper."

Alissa considered that theory. It did make some amount of sense. "I think that since there already is eyeshadow for the eyes highlighter is not also for the eyes because it doesn't make sense for there to be two things that serve the same purpose? But I think your thought makes sense, if it's called highlighter then it's probably to highlight something. I don't know what, though. Anything? Maybe you can put it wherever you want to highlight?" That could be different for different people. Like if someone wanted to highlight their cheekbones and someone else wanted to highlight their nose? That could make sense. "Is there a label?" Sometimes products, like medications, had use instructions. She wished that everything did. Alissa didn't like not knowing things, or not knowing where to find the answer to something. Usually if she was curious she would just find a book. She was sure books about makeup did exist, but she wasn't sure the Hogwarts library would have them.

"Oh! One of those is eyeliner. You use it to kind of draw around your eyes to make them pop." She remembered seeing her mom use that before.
