Default First-Floor Corridor

To get to History of Magic, or Muggle Studies, one will have to make use of the first floor corridor. Getting here is usually relatively easy if you're coming from one of the lower levels of the castle as you need only deal with the moving staircases for just a few minutes. Rugs with intricate patterns have been placed on the floor to soften your footsteps so that any learning going on inside the classrooms isn't disturbed.

Make sure you are not dilly dallying on your way to or from class. This corridor in particular is often times filled with students during the school day and a few professors pointing those who have managed to get lost in the right direction. Various doors flank this corridor, so make sure to memorize which of the portraits are outside of the classrooms you should be entering. And don't freak out when the corridor comes to a sudden halt -- the door at the end of the hallway will take you outside to the stone bridge and then to the rest of the first floor over in the next tower. Just keep moving!

For anyone in the vicinity of the first floor of the castle, the sound of a slightly out of tune operatic aria was meandering its way down the corridor and infiltrating the ears of the school’s residents. The source of the voice was one Professor Fergersnout who was making her own way along the corridor in pursuit of her office having just consumed a rather hearty breakfast in the Great Hall.

Lessons had been going well so far, at least in her opinion they had. No child had fallen asleep yet from the wonders of Goblin rebellions and Warlock conventions anyway. That could be explained by Apollonia’s eccentric teaching style which quite frankly wouldn’t let a student drift off into dreamland without being disturbed.

The Professor was, of course, in high spirits as usual and the accompanying tune she was singing reflected the positive attitude in its floating scales and bouncing rhythms which seemed to be echoing off the stone walls she passed as she trotted her way through.

Violeta Escalante had been low-key stalking the History of Magic professor. It hadn’t been intentional, at first. No. She was no creep, but the woman’s tune had lured in the Gryffindor witch from her academic duties. All of a sudden there was more fun in following the professor than going to the library and doing homework.

Green-hazel eyes admired from a distance behind how…light the professor seemed. Her aura was chill and bouncy from what she’s observed. Violeta liked those sorts of auras.

“What are you singing?” she asked curiously, forgetting about being quiet and going unnoticed, as she bounced into step with Professor Fergersnout.

Had Apollonia not been engrossed in her operatic performance, she might have been aware of the student following in her footsteps along the corridors. As it happened ‘constant vigilance’ was not something she had ingrained in herself and was likely the reason she hadn’t personally excelled in some of the more practical subjects in her own Hogwarts education. That wasn’t to say she wasn’t ~enthusiastic~ about every lesson and would encourage the students to explore every side of their education whether she was good at it or not.

Rather like her love for opera which despite her ineptitude at achieving the required notes to be considered ‘good’ at it, Apollonia would sing with as much vigour and spirit as necessary.

“Fizzing Whizzbees!” she exclaimed, clutching rather dramatically at her heart at the ‘shock’ of being startled. “You’d make a great Demiguise with those silent footsteps of yours.” she chortled. Or that could have been that Apollonia’s tune was ringing so loudly in her ears that she simply just hadn’t heard the approach which was honestly the most likely explanation.

“Oh it’s just a little ditty from the Marriage of Figaro” the Professor explained with a trademark twinkle in her eye. She knew that Violeta probably had no idea of the opera but she had asked and Apollonia was more than happy to educate.
