A set of paths, some stone, most dirt, link the wooden bridge to almost every other area of the Hogwarts grounds. You will more than likely use these pathways at some point to reach your grounds-based classes, to visit other outdoor locations, or simply to take a walk and clear your head. This is a quiet area of the grounds with the soft sound of leaves rustling in the wind or lightly crunching below your feet. Doesn't the air just seem fresher around here somehow?
Walk with a friend, sit and relax on one of the many benches placed in intervals along the numerous pathway routes, climb a nearby tree, take a moment to appreciate the great outdoors in this breathtaking part of the country. Just be careful not to trip on loose stones or roots as you go. The groundskeeper does what he can to keep the pathways maintained, but he is, after all, only human.

Charlie rarely found himself staying indoors when the weather was this good. This always had been his method of operation since his days at Durmstrang. That environment differed from the Hogwarts’ one but even though this was his second and final year at the Scottish Wizarding School, the Hufflepuff usually found something to be in awe of while out and about.
Though he had walked these pathways many times, Char still sometimes got mixed up about which led to where. With no destination in mind, the Swedish boy allowed his feet to take him wherever they wanted to go.
After all… life was a journey, right? Why not go on a mini journey right now?

Fynley had found that the best way to acclimate himself to the many nooks and crannies of Hogwarts was just to get himself out there. With it being so early in the term, he hadn’t been run down with homework and lessons yet and he enjoyed the idea of having a little free time to explore. The pathways had seemed like a very good place to start.
With a quaffe tucked under his arm in the hopes that he might be able to sneak into the Quidditch pitch for some private practice, the fifteen year old trudged down the stoney path with no idea where he was heading. Another guy was walking ahead of him who seemed like he had an idea where he was.
“Hey!” he called out in an attempt to get the other boys attention. “Which way is the pitch?” he asked.
Matilda found herself out and about in the grounds once classes were over, with a book in hand, glad to get away from the castle for a little bit. The gryffindor really needed the fresh air. She skipped down the pathways, humming a little tune, feeling… content? safe? for the first time since she stepped into the school. How strange.

Not really thinking too much about anything in particular at that moment, the voice broke easily through his mind. He paused to look over his shoulder. The sight of that particular ball had him spinning around to face the Slytherin. “It’s actually that way,’’ Charlie replied as a finger was pointed in the direction he meant. The seventh year tilted his head to one side, eyes lowered to the Quaffle. “You a Chaser?” The excitement and eagerness he was feeling about possibly finding another Quidditch opponent were something he tried to keep out of his voice.
“No… wait. Are you perhaps a Keeper?” Maybe the other guy was on his way to defend some hoops. Perhaps he needed someone to help him train? Who better to help with that than an U17 player if that was the case. Spotting Matilda walking by, Char raised a hand in greeting. Hej, Matilda! {Hi, Matilda!}

If there was one thing he had noted about Hogwarts it was that most of the students were friendly and welcoming and there wasn’t an ounce of teenage hormones making the experience particularly miserable. Not that Ilvermorny had been like that either but it wasn’t completely expected. Perhaps there was something about the fresh Scottish air that put everyone in a good mood or maybe he had just been fortunate enough to have only come across the extroverted kids so far. Either way it had made the integration process that bit easier.
“Cheers mate,” the Slytherin responded glancing in the direction of the pitch. Fynley had found himself slipping back into his native British idioms since arriving back in the UK despite the numerous years spent in the US. Before the fifteen year old could progress, his companion asked him a question and he paused to listen. “I’m a Keeper” he grinned. In more ways than one in his ‘humble’ opinion. “At least I was at Ilvermorny. Have yet to check out the competition here though.” His old school has favoured Quodpot over Quidditch which was pretty disappointing meaning the competition had been somewhat lacking. Truth be told he was looking forward to a harder challenge.
“I’m Fynley. Fynn.. Whatever you want to call me.” He didn’t really care as long as it wasn’t rude.
His attention was momentarily distracted by the very pretty redhead (Matilda) walking by who he flashed a charming grin towards.
Matilda considered heading back to the castle after a little while - she had lots of homework to do, anyway - when the sixth year heard a familiar voice greeting her.
“Charlie!” She smiled, tucking her hair behind the ears, walking over to where they were. ”Hey. Hi, Fynny.” The redhead greeted the other boy, too.

Oh, Charlie would definitely agree with the Ravenclaw on those sentiments. He had been very worried about transitioning into life at Hogwarts but it had all been for nothing. “Inga problem. No problem,’’ he replied grinning, mostly thrilled to come across someone else who was into Quidditch. “Yeah? That’s great!’’ Char’s Swedish accent was still very much pronounced but this was only due to the excitement. “You definitely should check it out as soon as you can. I’m a Beater for Scotland U17.” No boasting there! Just staging facts. “Fancy us practicing sometime? I could even get a few of my U17 mates to join us.
“Nice to meet you, Fynn! I’m Charlie but many people call me Char.” But not Matilda in this instance. “Hi, Matty! Whatcha up to on this fine day?”

Fynley has been looking for someone to practice with since the first day at Hogwarts so the thought of finding someone willing was music to his ears. “That sounds great! I’ve been keen to get back on the pitch. Feels like home, y’know?” Any form of guidance from a student that had been through it all was also very much appreciated. “Just tell me where and when and I’ll be there.” Any excuse to get out the common room and away from the impending doom of OWL’s looming at the end of the year.
Fynn may have been a tiny bit distracted by just grinning and Matilda to initially notice the use of his nickname. The boy wasn’t afraid to admit that he had a bit of a thing for natural redheads. He snapped back into reality fairly quickly though. “Hey Tilly” he grinned, using the nickname that he had decided for her.

Charlie was quite over the moon to have met another one who understood what it truly felt like to be on a Quidditch pitch. This was a conversation he could drone on and on about. “It’s like all you’ve been longing for,’’ he remarked knowingly. “And once you’re in the air, you don’t want to come back down. Especially if you’ve got a really great game going or some intense practice." Awesome! Fynley was up for the challenge! “Hm. How about tomorrow after classes? Is that okay?” Char secretly liked checking out the Quidditch skills of persons willing to show them off.
But look at this trio getting along as though they had been friends for years! Though, did Fynley seem a bit off? This just might be Char’s imagination.

Kaira strolled through the ground, walking aimlessly through the pathway. She was heading back from the owlery, after dropping a letter to home. She was a little lonely, she missed home. She liked being here, yet something felt incomplete.
With her head buzzing with thoughts, she continued strolling through the pathway.
