The mirror on the fourth floor corridor was something Vera had heard quite a bit about, but she'd never gone to go take a look at it. Overall, a mirror in itself didn't seem like something super exciting. At least... it didn't when she thought it was one that just would have shown her reflection. Which was a silly assumption to make that that's all it would do when Hogwarts always had so many mysteries. Why would a mirror be just a mirror? That was for the bathrooms.

Heading up to where she was pretty sure she could find it, having tuned out whatever else said the mirror DID do because she wanted experiencing it to be a surprise, it was almost disappointing when she got there and just saw... a ballroom? Did Hogwarts even HAVE a ballroom? Stepping closer to the painting, she peered at it trying to make the details out in the room. She thought she might have seen a figure in it, but that seemed silly.

But... was it? Was there a way to go IN the mirror? Maybe Hogwarts DID have a ballroom. Glancing left and right, she was trying to double check to make sure no one was coming so she could try to touch it. She wasn't sure if she'd get in trouble for that but.. better to be safe than sorry and just not have anyone there.

Being a sixth year now had some perks. The main one being she didn't have any huge exams to deal with at the end of this year. Those were last year and next year, so she was in the clear this time around. Perk number two, when it came to knowing about most of the cool things around Hogwarts.. well.. she already knew about most of them. This is what happens when you have a large family that can pass on their information to one another.

Just as there were perks for this year, there were also some not great things. Like Jude not being here. This was major and it still bothered her even though as the days progressed she got better at hiding it.

Today was one of those where Keighley was doing so well that she was lost in her own thoughts and wasn't even aware of what corridor she was in or why she was even in it. Which was okay because she really didn't have anywhere to be but where she was right now.

Having thought she was perhaps in the clear, Vera looked closer again at the mirror - trying to decide if she wanted to stick her hand in first and just... go full force smoosh her face into it and hope she fell through into the ballroom. Although, if she WAS successful that begged the question of would she be able to get OUT of the mirror? Would she be hidden in there forever? Was that why she thought she'd seen a person in the distance?

Logically these were good questions and yet still her face went closer still. She only stopped when she thought she heard footfalls in the corridor, which made the Gryffindor LEAP away to the opposite side of the wall and try to lean against it nonchalantly.

Nothing to see her. Was totally not about to leave face streaks on Hogwarts property.

Taking a closer look at the figure coming towards her, she relaxed a bit when she realized it was a familiar person. "Hi Keighley!"

Keighley must have been so seriously lost in her own little world that she had missed everything. All of it. Whatever the younger girl had been doing had been completely lost to this Hufflepuff who appeared to have her head in the clouds. So much so that when Vera shouted her name in greeting, Keigh actually jumped an inch or two in surprise, her blue eyes wide and blinking a few times in confusion. Where had Vera come from? What floor was she even on?

"Hey, Vera." The blonde smiled softly shaking off the earlier moment of confusion. "How are you?" Yes, yes, very good Keigh. Take the attention off of herself and her own silliness at being startled so easily like that. She really needed to pay better attention to things before she ended up getting herself hurt or something.

Now that she knew the person approaching was the older Hufflepuff, Vera didn't mind as much having been almost caught doing something potentially embarrassing. That was pretty much her default, and as part of the extended Paton clan she knew that the girl had probably seen it at least once from her. But still the jump of surprise told her nothing had been noticed anyways. And only because Vera actually liked the older student did she feel a little bad for shocking her from her thoughts. "You seem like you really had something on your mind!" She commented, tilting her head and returning the smile.

"I'm doing good! Just exploring." And avoiding homework but.. she didn't need to tell everyone that. "How are you? Killing time now that you don't have to study for OWLs 24/7?" As much as the Gryffindor DREADED next year's exams, she did look forward to being one day a sixth year and having them behind her and not a looming cloud to contend with. Because clearly she'd forgotten entirely the existence of NEWTs.

In all honesty, being lost in her thoughts wasn't anything new as of lastly. Neither was being surprised out of them. This was what she got for allowing it to happen. She knew better, especially while walking the corridors here at Hogwarts. And yet she continuously allowed it to happen. What was done, was done though. "Yes and no. It's very easy for me to lose myself in my own thoughts," she smiled softly at her younger friend. "There's just so much to think about sometimes, you know?" From very important things to completely random things that made no sense at all.

Ah, exploring was a wonderful way to pass time. "I still find myself exploring different areas of the castle and the grounds from time to time." Some more than others. "I'm doing pretty good today. Yeah, it's a little weird not having to study constantly and Livvy and Char do." Still studies but doesn't have exams like her girlfriend and boyfriend will at the end of the year. "Find anything good around here?" Since she was exploring and all that?

True, walking around school not knowing what was going on around her was probably not particularly the most safe of moves, but Vera certainly wasn't going to hold it against the girl. The amount of unsafe things she did per day pretty much left her with no room to talk, regardless! As for thinking too much about things all the time? That was something she could not relate to. She was pretty good at keeping her mind blank. Most of the time anyways, though she supposed as of late more and more pesky things were beginning to creep in. "Um, I'll take your word for it. What were you thinking about now?"

Considering Keighley was an older student standing right before her and they were already on the topic, Vera could not help herself from trying to pick the Hufflepuff's brain further on the places shed already discovered. Keigh had a whole TWO YEARS more at Hogwarts than herself. Imagine the secrets shed already uncovered! "What's been your favorite things you've discovered so far? Or even the most surprising thing you've found?" The reminder of the older girl's girlfriend and boyfriend has Vera once again thinking of what a legend the youngest female Anders was. With as much as her thoughts were consumed about things, she had to tip off her hat to Keighley for having to endure something similar about not one person but two. "Does their studying cut into a lot of time you would usually get with them?" Or maybe the studying was actually a blessing because she could hang out with one while the other was busy!

The next question brought her back to her current surroundings and her attention shifted to the mirror again before she moved closer to it - peering inquisitively. "What do you know about this mirror? I could have sworn I saw someone in the corner down here!" She pointed to where her eyes had caught movement before.

Keighley normally paid better attention to the things that she did but given they she hadn't been right than, well it was quite alright. "You don't have a bunch of thoughts jumping around your head?" The blonde found that hard to believe when she knew how hyper the younger Gryffindor could be. "The holidays, if I completely all of my assignments, where Kanga is..." Several other things she's sure she could rattle on about if she was asked.

Being older did mean she had done her fair share of exploring. "I'm going to assume you mean spots that not many know about? Like secret tunnels or rooms and things like that? Unfortunately there aren't as many as there used to of those but there are some unused rooms around still and some really nice spots outside." She had no trouble at all with sharing her secrets of any of those. As for Liv and Charlie, that was an easy question. "No, not really. We keep our relationships separate. So if Liv is studying I'll spend time with Charlie and vice versa."

A small smile tugged at her lips as she turned to look at the mirror as well. "Not much really. I don't think there really is much known about it other than what we see within it. Yeah, they come and go but they're there." The person that is.

She had to consider the question for a moment, realizing perhaps Keighley did have a point... But they all flitted in and out of her conscious thought so quickly that she never really thought about her thoughts. Weird concept, wasn't it? "I mean I guess sort of. But then they're gone as quick as they were there." And usually replaced by the things she could see and what she thought about those. She did have some stubborn ideas that stuck, as much as she wished they hadn't, but those were things she actively chose to dismiss. "What are you going to do over holiday? DID you complete all your assignments? And should we go look for Kanga???"

Did she mean spots no one knew about? A little bit, which was why Vera was then disappointed to hear there weren't that many of those lurking around any longer. But she also meant something different so she ignored the disappointment and instead clarified. "unknown is good too, but I'm also interested in the spots that are just underrated! Don't get nearly the recognition they deserve for being fun or relaxing or... Whatever! What is your favorite?" Unused rooms did sound intriguing though, she'd have to put those on her exploration list as well. "oooooh. So does their studying schedules actually make it a little easier on you?" Sounded like it might, especially if Keighley had more free time this term.

Nothing to know? Well ... That was boring. And here she'd thought she stumbled on something cool. "Soooo the little figure is probably not someone who cracked the code on finding a different world within mirrors? And his showing up is not a cry for help but like... Just an accepted fact he exists?" it was good to be sure.

"See, than you do understand." At least somewhat. Which was better than not at all, if she asked her. Keighley got this. Truly. It came as no real surprise that some thoughts stuck around more so than others This happened to her all the time. Thoughts that crept into her brain and sat there for hours or days on end and she couldn't shake them no matter how hard she tried. Then others came and went so quickly that she couldn't recall them even if she tried. "Well I'm going home, hopefully Koen comes to visit with Stasya and my nieces, I love seeing those two little girls. And I'll spend lots of time with Jude and Reagan and the rest of the family of course." This included everyone since her family was so big. Spend time with Livvy and Char and my other friends too. The usual holiday things. Nod nod. "I DID. I just need to have one of them proof read before I had it in. As for Kanga.. she's likely sleeping on my bed or getting cuddles from some of the Hufflepuffs in the common room."

Did Vera know that her questions brought a smile to this girls face? She might not look like much of an explorer but it did kinda run in the family. At least the knowledge of where some of these things were did. Which made Keigh a little surprised that Vera wasn't
asking Logan for this information.. or perhaps she had and he didn't know? Now that she thought about was strange since he never asked her either but oh well. "Besides the Room of Requirement which is decently well known, Jude and I used to use an old office or a classroom maybe.. I never really remember what it was as a hangout. It's rarely ever used. The Battlements isn't used often either but even I don't go there all that much. There are a few others I can tell you about though.. or show you if you want?" Showing her might actually be easier than telling her. "I suppose it does. It's not like I have all that much to do this year.. " Besides her own lessons and training that is.

Keighley smiled softly. "In all the years that I've been here.. nope. The figure just.. seems to come and go randomly at the scene there in the mirror never ever changes." Sure, it was curious but it was one of those Hogwart things.

She supposed she did KIND of get it, but she also still stuck by the fact her thoughts did not occupy her nearly as often as Keighley's seemed to. Which wasn't a bad thing. In truth, it might have been Vera's way of doing things that was considered inaccurate. Hearing the mention of the older girl's nieces, Vera went a little soft. She was a big fan of little kids, honestly, and being an aunt sounded like pretty much the coolest thing ever. "How old are the little ones now!?" Spending time with her now graduated siblings made sense too. "Is it weird being here at school without your other siblings? This is your first year, isn't it?" She couldn't imagine not having a sibling with her - maybe because she and Vasco and their age had always made them kind of a package deal. There was a moment though where she realized... maybe when they graduated that wouldn't be true anymore. What would be next??? She chose to not dwell on that, it was so far away anyways, and instead focused on Keighley's words - her nose wrinkling a bit at the idea of caring about school so much to have someone actually look over an assignment that was finished. "Sometimes I wonder if I was to take Sass into the commons if anyone would want to snuggle with her and give her love too. She reaaally likes attention."

She only would have guessed because Keigh was smiling. But then again, the Hufflepuff always seemed optimistic and energetic with a smile on her face so it was far more likely she had no idea the line of conversation was pleasing. "The Room of Requirement is so well beloved though, I don't use it a TON." Except for practicing potions with Leo, apparently. "I prefer the game room." But battlements and open classrooms sounded intriguing if they were less used. "Ooooh, I'd love it if you'd be willing to show me!" She beamed back at the Puff, bouncing on her toes excitedly at the offer. "Do you already know what you'll do AFTER next year? When you graduate?"

She pouted a little bit at how unremarkable the mirror really was, but decided she could make stories up about it anyways to tell younger years so... no need to really dwell. At least SHE knew that there wasn't a lot of reason to hang out in the part of the halls.

It wasn't difficult for random thoughts to occupy her mind at any given moment if she allowed them to. There was always a lot to think about. Vera wanted to know how old the girls were? Oh, Keigh could talk about her nieces for hours and hours! "Six months already! And they've gotten so big from the photos that Koen sends us." She couldn't wait to see them in person and hold them. "This is my second second year without Reagan and first without Jude... and also without Lily, Lia and Eli too so yeah, it's super weird having them all not here at the same time." When one of them graduated at a time or two it was okay because there was always a bunch left but none it just felt like she was a little alone. "Next year will be strange too because Livvy and Char won't be here either." And then SHE'LL be the one getting ready to graduate. It made her a little sad to think about it so she tried to focus more on what Vera said next. "If I was in Gryffindor I would snuggle with her." Snakes deserved all the love too.

Not always but she tried very hard to be this way around others. There was a very small group that got to see her when she wasn't at her happiest. "That it is. It does come in handy when it's needed for parties or for training and I really don't want to be outside." Or for just a really comfortable getaway room. The game room was decent too. Not that she used it very often herself anymore. "I'd love to show you some of my spots." Maybe she would even show her some of the closed off spots that she knew of too. The blonde nodded. "Yeah, sorta. The main plan right now is take a little time off for my training.. travel with Jude when he's ready and learn different forms or Martial Arts, compete in different areas. Focus more on things with Livvy and Charlie." Training was her career and Liv and Char were a huge part of her life.

Oops. Keigh didn't like to be the bringing of bad news but it was always best to tell the truth. Even if it was about a mirror. There was no reason to let Vera go about thinking the mirror was much more special then it was.

If she had wanted to talk to her about her nieces for hours, she would have been a very captive audience. As it was, she already bothered Leo incessantly to talk about his nephews and nieces too when he wasn't trying to help her with Potions. "Six months! That's so cute!! Do you have any pictures of them?" Was that her wanting to see them and also ooh and aah over how cute they were? Absolutely. She always forgot just how BIG the extended Paton family really was. Throw a stone and it was possible she'd hit someone at least somewhat related to Professor Paton - which was a really cool idea! But as they all got older and started graduating off... she'd never considered how WEIRD that most be for those still left behind. She'd only really considered the siblings being gone, not cousins and other family members. "Do you still get to talk to them a lot through mirrors or letters?" There was at least those options for keeping in contact... though not near as nice as just walking to a different common room entrance. "Are you already dreading them being gone?" It was bad luck both of her partners were older, which meant she wouldn't get to see either of them for a year. But she picked up at least a little on the queue that that might be sad to think about, so she happily moved on to Sass with the older Hufflepuff. "Well, you can snuggle her anytime still in the reptile room! I think she really likes when people go down and give her attention." Heaven knew Vera spent a decent amount of time down there herself.

Parties. That was something that sounded really fun but she'd yet to venture into the full experience of. She wanted to ask Keighley more questions about that too, but paused thinking maybe that was something that was just more fun to experience first hand. "I bet you can make a pretty nice training room can't you?" Excitement was back full force as she bounced on her feet, excited by the propsect of getting to see some nice spots around the castle from one of the arguably cooler older students she knew. "Thank you, Keighley!!" Truthfully, she didn't know why she'd never asked Keighley to show her some pointers. Because MMA looked and sounded really cool, and the Gryffindor was rather sporty by nature. But between duelling and gobstones and flying around the pitch for fun, she just had missed the opportunity to ever add it in and see if Keighley would have time. Perhaps that was for the best - her knowing how to throw a punch might not have been a necessarily good thing. "That sounds really exciting!! Do you know where you and your brother will travel to first?"

All she had to do was say the word! This could be done and with the greatest pleasure too. [B]"I know! It's the cutest age ever! Of course I photos of them. Lots and lots of photos."[B] All she had to do was rummage through her bag for her little photo album and- here we go! Keigh would showoff these babies to anyone that wanted to have a look. Really it was easy to forget who was related to who with her family since there was so many of them and they all didn't share the same surname. "Some more than others. Mostly Jude. A lot of them are really busy." Sometimes staying in contact meant mirror calling one and hoping some of the others just happened to be there at that moment too. "I try not to think about it but they'll be around on holidays and things." Every chance she could be with either of them, she would be. As for the younger Gryffindors offer to snuggle Sass, the blonde would gladly take her up on that. "I'll definitely keep that in mind anytime I'm in there. Which is pretty often. Feel free to cuddle with Kanga if you see her wandering around too."

No? Well then they should throw a party together sometime or something. There never needed to be a reason to have a party. "It's a great place to train when the weather isn't the friendliest outside." Though she didn't mind training outside in the elements for the most part. Not all were the best for training. Keighley smiled and nodded. Vera was welcome to join her anytime she wanted. "Nope, not a clue but that's what makes it interesting." She was looking forward to the adventure and the time she would be spending with Jude.

Granted, she did not know much when it came to what we're actually cute ages for kids BUT they all seemed cute and Keighley as aunt was clearly the expert so Ve would take her word for it. She rocked on her feet while Keigh dug, toes to heels to toes again, but then the little photo book had been procured and she was ooohing and ahhhing with her at the adorable little twins. "they're so cute!!! Look at their little fingers! And tiny toes!" Maybe instead of Diagon Alley over summer she should just get jobs babysitting. By then she'd be just a few months shy of 16 and that was a responsibility age, right? "You and your brother seem really close. Like, twin levels of close!" She knew other siblings could be close, but people always seemed to add the twin part for her and Vasco's bond so... It seemed fitting. "I bet you're looking forward to seeing them all?" She knew she was looking forward to Papa, and that was only one person she had to miss. "Okay! She'll love it!" She got a bit of a cheeky smile, knowing Kanga did already get pets whenever she saw her. "I do, but thank you for the official permission!" She replied a small giggle.

Pretty sure throwing a party with a 6th Year would make her one of the coolest people in her year, so she GLADLY would take Keighley up with that if it was a legitimate offer. "Do you ever use the elements like as PART of your training?" Did punching against the wind make for a stronger hit maybe?? That would be cool. "The surprise portion makes it sound EXTRA fun!" Maybe she should consider asking Vasco if he wanted to travel when they first graduated.

Really what Keighley should've said was 'The girls are always adorable' and 'How much she missed them'. As that how she really felt. How old they were didn't matter. She had found those two babies to be the absolute most precious little bundles of joy around. Maybe she was being completely bias but that was okay, these were her very first nieces after all.. and they were twins! So double the cute. "I know! And I thought they looked so much alike when they were born but each time I see them they look even more identical." It was crazy to her but she loved watching them grow. Vera's comment about Jude and her being twin level close, made her bite her lip and glance away for a brief second as she suddenly felt overwhelmed with emotion. Someone else saw it! "We are. We've told each other many times how unfair it is that we aren't actually twins." If you ask her it's one of the most unfair things the universe had done to them. "I always am." Family was everything. Keighley laughed softly. "It's not like you need it but I just thought I would toss it out there since you gave me permission to visit with Sass." She only thought it was fair.

Oh, the offer was very much legitimate. Keigh didn't say something she didn't mean and once something was said she didn't go back on her word either. If Vera was game then there would be a party and this girl right here could make it happen whenever they liked. "Using the elements could be an effort part of training but it can also be dangerous too if I'm not careful but yes, sometimes I do." Chances were she didn't use them in the way the younger girl was thinking but that was alright. The blonde smiled brightly. "Surprises are always fun! Honestly though it doesn't even matter where we end up, I know we'll have a great time."

Vera had already told Leo how much she couldn't WAIT to be 'Aunt Ve' which was one of the cutest Aunt names if someone was to ask her (totally unbiased opinion). But considering she and Vasco were the same age and Scoot was little, it was going to be FOREVER until that was a reality. So in the mean time, she'd live vicariously through her other friends who DID have that title. "Do you ever have a hard time telling them apart? Or what are the tells you've already noticed that makes that easier?" She knew some people had a REALLY difficult time with twins. Thankfully for her and Vasco, that hadn't really been an option other than when they were babies (she assumed). Oh... oops. Was it bad to have said that? Vera felt a little sorry if she had made Keighley sad, but she was turning back towards her again fairly quickly so... maybe it hadn't been THAT bad to say? Twins also would have meant they wouldn't have had this time of separation. "Little sisters and older siblings can definitely be just as close. Like you and Jude! And me and my little sister!" She adored both of her siblings and each bond was so special so while twins was REALLY nice... so was being an older sibling. And hopefully Ves thought being a younger sibling was okay too! She giggled and nodded, "Thank you!"

The fourth year was VERY game and even had the perfect occasion to have Keighley help her with planning something SUPER fun. She probably wouldn't think to bring it up to the other girl again though until closer to Sia's birthday, which was said event. If she remembered at all. Well... outside of earlier, Keighley did USUALLY seem to pay attention so... maybe that had just been a one off? "What's your favorite element to try training in?" There was probably a preference, right? Vera was just really excited to get to explore with the Hufflepuff at all. So when Keighley kept talking, she looped her arm through the older girl's. "Where should we go to first!?"

If anyone were to ask her about it, Keighley would agree that 'Aunt Ve' was indeed a very cute name. In all honesty she understood that! Koen and Stasya had been together for ages before they had even gotten married. Sometimes she had wondered if they ever were or if they were going to have children. Those days had come and gone though! "Yeah but I don't get to see them constantly so that's likely why. It helps that they wear different colors and Kestrel is a smidge chubbier if you pay close attention. She thought it would get easier as they got a little more older and she saw them more. "I like to think that I'm pretty close with all my siblings. If not just in different ways." It was a little more difficult with Koen since he was a lot older, married with kids and lived so far away. "I love having my siblings. I can't imagine ever being an only child."

Well then.. all Vera had to do was let her know and Keigh was already ALL IN. Ah, well she might need a little reminder of the other younger girls birthday or at the very least the month of it so they had time to prepare for it. "Snow is always fun because there's so much that you can do with it to help with training." When one wasn't playing in it, that is. Keigh smiled at Vera when she looped her arm through hers. "That depends.. what are we in search of first?"

Different colors seemed to be parents best friends when it came to tiny twins. Not that she blamed them for that, considering the difficulty when babies ALL kind of looked the same level of cute. Distinct differences though were also good to find - like what Keighley had already noticed. "It won't be too long until summer and you can spend SO much more time with them! And then after school you can spoil them rotten!" Not that she couldn't spoil them rotten with material things before then but... that wasn't the same as with time and cuddles. "Are they fraternal or identical twins?" She could understand that too. At the end of the day, siblings were the people who were going to be there - even if you'd annoyed the heck out of them for the day. Parents didn't get into trouble by your side, and parents were also older and might one day not be there. But siblings? You got a LOT more time with them. "Being an only child sounds really boring. Not having that built in home best friend." So she was with Keighley on that, much rather keep Vasco and Vesper than not have them.

She would definitely be hitting her up then at the end of February. "Like what can you do with the snow?" She supposed it might offer some resistance for your feet... maybe trying to catch the snowflakes too? At the question, she considered for a moment before glancing around the corridor as if it would spark inspiration. The corridor didn't, but the grumble in her belly did. "Do you think there's somewhere from here that gets us to the kitchen even faster than the stairs?"

If someday she were to have twins of her own, chances were high that she might very well dress them in different colors too. For the first few moments at least, until the babies developed their own personalities and she was able to tell them apart. "It's crazy to think they'll be a year old when the summer comes around." Time really does go quickly. "Oh, you know that I will!" Every chance that she got, those babies were going to be in her arms getting cuddles. "They're identical." The blonde nodded. "I agree but I'm sure there's a few that disagree and think it's great." It wasn't a way that she would want to live though.

She would be ready and waiting. "Snow can be used in all types of ways. It can make really great obstacles and with a little help from magic any of the elements can. Dodging snowballs makes for good training.. it's also fun." Unless she got hit in the face. That wasn't fun. Keigh smiled softly as she watched Vera look around the corridor. She did this too, when she wasn't sure where she wanted to go or what she wanted to do next. "There might be. Checking pretty much everywhere is the best way to go."

Vera could understand that. Considering she was a twin herself, her chances of having her own were lessened genetically speaking - as the gene generally skipped a generation - but if she DID have her own, she’d probably doing something signature about their individual styles as babies to make it easier on other people. Perhaps not with colors because for some reason that felt limiting, but maybe each would get a little animal icon or something that she associated them with. That would certainly be cute! Except at the same time, she wasn’t certain she’d ever have kids to begin with so maybe it was best to not get attached to a very far off or not even going to happen idea. “Time flies! Will you get to be home for this 1 year birthday or does that happen before summer break?” Hopefully after. That sounded like a milestone that would be upsetting to miss - although maybe Headmaster Winterbottom would let her go home for it!

All thoughts of children and the like went away as she spoke about her training, particularly snow and that snowballs made for good dodging. Which to Vera, sounded like an invitation to come throw snowballs at the older girl. “Can I help you train next time it snows?” Her cheeky smile probably showed exactly which part had caught her interest. Everywhere? She could do everywhere! “Let’s go explore then! Uh… this way!” And with that, Ve tugged on the other girl’s arm to take her further down the corridor and away from the mirror.

The thought of having her own twins was a sweet one. She liked thinking that they would always have a built in best friend for life. Whether or not twins were even in the cards for her, well she didn't know but they certainly ran in her family! What she did know was this, any children she did ever have.. were going to be so beyond love that it would be scary. "You're not kidding!" Keighley laughed.
