The second that Aurora glanced at the noticeboard to reveal there was to be a costume party for Muggle Studies, the theme of the party was entirely lost on her. It didn’t matter that they were supposed to be ‘Pop Culture Icons’ or represent a Muggle career, she had already decided exactly who she was going to go as and had of course roped in her bestie to join her. Already being petite enough to get away with being Pixie sized there was no one more ICONIC than Tinkerbell for the second year and Anna with her fantasised Pirate dad would make the most wonderful Zarina the Pirate Fairy.

Aurora barely had to change anything about her appearance. She already had the trademark blonde hair which had been tied up into bun, her features were particularly small and button like and at only 4’6 (and a half) she was shorter than the majority of her peers. Even some of the first years had surpassed her in height which was a little disappointing considering that the rest of her family were very svelte and tall and model like in appearance. Maybe, just maybe, this summer might finally be the year she had that growth spurt. But for now she was quite content being short enough to get away with portraying such a tiny character.

Her arm looped in with the Hufflepuffs as they skipped their way into the party without a care in the world, her wings had somehow been charmed by herself to flutter and sparkle as she walked which was an amazement how she had actually managed to accomplish such a spell without causing any permanent damage to herself or her costume or to the environment around her. She sent a quick wave over to Professor Feirgrund whose costume inspiration had floated straight over her head. Was he both a surgeon AND a chef? Either way she liked his hat, it reminded her of a little paper boat they used to make in Primary School. “OOOOOOOH SMOOTHIES!” she beamed as her eyes fell upon the refreshments table. Her Mums were particularly fond of a smoothie although her Ma’s tended to be a sickly shade of kale infused green which didn’t look so appealing to the sugar-loving Ravenclaw whose preference steered towards anything full of berries.

Channelling his future brother-in-law one Jude Anders, Charlie had done his best to put together an astronaut costume for this party. Muggles heading up to space certainly fascinated him, and so here he was, eyeing the smoothies and trying to decide which to have while dressed as Buzz Aldrin {complete with an ‘Aldrin’ name tag slapped across the left side of his costume}. Sure, most might wonder why he had not chosen to dress as Neil Armstrong but Char just thought that Aldrin got less love and recognition for his moon exploration contribution to humanity.

“Smoothies with pineapples are the best, Tinkerbell,’’ he told Aurora in response to her enthusiastic exclamation. The Puff was just going to get himself now, as a matter of fact. “Oh, hello, professor,’’ came the continued chatter as he became aware Feirgrund was standing there. “Do you think you would have worked in the medical field if you worked in the Muggle world?” Char asked while pouring himself a tall glass of pineapple-rich smoothie.

She had been undecided on going to the party or not. Merely because with end of the year approaching, she was exceedingly conscious of her poor grades and wondering what the chances were of turning any around this term. Probably slim. But even more slim if she didn't study.

But apparently she'd decided it was hopefully, as she made her way to join everyone. Deciding what to go as in pop culture had been REALLY difficult. She was a big fan of most of the Japanese animations so she'd considered that (who didn't love a good Sailor Scout costume?) And Disney was fun too but ... Ultimately she decided to just go with one of the fashion trends and dressed up in what she was pretty sure they called "Y2K fashion". Which truly was not her normal scene as she was currently wearing way too much denim to be comfortable. But the denim butterfly top with a bright neon green cropped shirt under it to cover more of her skin was cute so she supposed she'd deal with the bedazzled jeans on bottom as well. At least she'd chosen a style that liked wide leg - skinny jeans were a horrible restrictive invention.

Heading into the room, she glanced around at all the others before an audible GASP escaped at Aurora and Anna. "You guys look so cute!" She wanted to pinch their cheeks a little, but she also wasn't THAT much older than A squared. Glancing at everyone else as well, she made her way towards Charlie and nodded towards the jukebox. "Think it has Fly Me to the Moon?" Was it a pun about his costume? Absolutely. But only because she liked it. Also .. manners. "Hi Professor!"

There were so many possibilities for this costume party theme, but in the end, Lydia had to go with the most practical one for herself. Choosing the career of musician/performer was the easy part; narrowing it down to one had been immensely difficult. But she had neither the money to go all out with a costume nor the spellwork to charm an outfit to look exactly how she wanted. She'd have to use whatever clothes she had on hand in her trunk.

And so she had chosen the singer Taylor Swift to emulate, specifically in her "folklore" era. Lydia really wanted her outfit to have a different aesthetic but, again, little money and magical talent. So she wore a black and white gingham dress and a cream-colored cardigan, and her red hair was pulled back in two low buns. Even if it wasn't her ideal costume, she was still satisfied with it.

"Hi," she said as a general greeting to those in the room. Most of them so far were congregating near the food and smoothies, so maybe she should join- wait, was that a jukebox over there??

Yeah, that's where this girl was headed. She wanted to check it out.

There was a party and there would be costumes. That was really all one needed to sell Anna on attending. Well, really you didn't need both of those and just one of those would be more than enough to inspire her to attend so the two together just confirmed her 500% enthusiasm. She had become more familiar with certain muggle interpretations of fairy tales thanks to Aurora but she couldn't really remember all the details of the character she was portraying today. She knew she was a fairy and a pirate and both were things the Hufflepuffle could portray in her sleep! What made things even better? Reuben and Solomon would be joining them to create a quartet! Anna had simply been over the moon when they had accepted, an exhuberant cheek kiss for each of them before skipping off and on to the next adventure of the afternoon. Also also also, getting ready with Aurora had been loads of fun too and with their combined powers she had only poked herself in the eye five times (a new lowest record!) with a mascara wand thingy. She got to keep her own hair too, though she did apply some charms to brighten and intensify the color to look more like the picture. She felt like the true pirate princess that she was once she had her full costume on. It was hard to pick a favorite part of her costume but..it was between her wings and the boots - even if the boots made her fun size self look even more fun sized.

"Isn't she JUST?!" Anna beamed in response to the compliment given to Aurora. When she thought of her friend the color association was totally pink but now this leafy green color was making a strong case. She had no idea who he was meant to be and the name on his shirt rang no bells but he looked nice anyway. "Who is Al-di-rin?" Vera's compliment resulted in some bright rosey cheeks and she guided herself and Aurora in a twirl to show off their wings properly before spin back around to face the older Gryffindor. "Where does your outfit come from?"

She didn't recognize Lydia's costume either but there were a great many things she did not know any understand so that was to be expected. Like the professor's outfit - though his had reminded him of an ice cream parlor so maybe he was a really famous muggle ice cream person. "Oooooooooh...are you Ben or Jerry, professor?" she asked as she skipped on by with her arm looped around Aurora's. "Oh oh I think I want to try the purple one," she smiled and pointed to the one that was very obviously loaded up with blueberries. "I hope the boys get here soon. Maybe we should poor smoothies for them too."

Solomon didn't feel that he was one to be easily persuaded into silly ideas like dressing up as characters for a party (apart from Halloween), but he could appreciate that everyone would be dressed in that way today and he wouldn't look foolish. Besides, Peter Pan was quite an easy character to portray, although he feel a little embarrassed once his outfit was assembled. Pointed green hat, red feather, a green DRESS...thing, pointed shoes, and...

TIGHTS......!!!!!!!

Which made him look absolutely ridiculous, by the way, but unfortunately he looked so much worse without, so here he was, tights and all. It felt good to be seeing the approaching end of term off with a party, although he didn't feel he had massively excelled this year. In fact, quite the opposite, Solly had experienced a few distractions here and there.

Speaking of distracted, he was VERY distracted by Aurora and Anna's fluttering wings, almost a magical element to them... he must have momentarily forgotten that he as well was a magical being probably capable of fluttering his own wings, if he had them. AHEM. He joined them, with his nose immediately turned up when Aurora exclaimed about smoothies, but instead his attention was averted to the juke box in the corner, wondering what muggle hilarities he could find on there. "You guys look cool." He said simply as he looked back at the girls, then pulling his dress!THING down in complete insecurity, his face looking GRUMPY.

How had they convinced him to do this?

To be fair to Anna Aurora had also managed poke herself in the eye and get mascara on her top eyelid and if it wasn’t for a desperate search for her sister to rectify her mistake it was likely that she would be walking around sporting a black eye right now and that wouldn’t fit the character she was portraying. But that was what big sisters were for, right? If she couldn’t rely on Ariadne fixing her messes who could she rely on? She’d love to say Anna but it was much more likely that any ‘fixing’ those two would do would result in an even bigger (and equally as hilarious) mess.

The Ravenclaw admired her friends curls as the bounced as she walked and suddenly she was being twirled around to show off their magical wings. She could only hope that charming fairy wings would be on a future exam because she now considered herself an expert in the matter. “We’re BOTH cute!” she giggled gleefully. Pint sized and rosie cheeked and still with all the enthusiasm for life that their petite bodies could muster up. A-squared as Vera had designated them could fill up the room with their personalities despite only taking up the smallest portion. “I love your top Vera! Butterflies are so pretty.. so are moths but not quite as pretty as butterflies. OOOH maybe next term we can bring nets and go see what butterflies we can catch in the grounds?” she beamed rambling on at a hundred miles per hour about nonsense most people probably didn’t care about. The context of Vera’s costume had evidently whooshed straight over the blondes head but that hadn’t stopped her from complimenting it anyway.

Then came the older Slytherin (Lydia) who other than a quick hello hadn’t said much but received a grin from Aurora anyway, mostly because she had the prettiest flame coloured hair.

With her loud excitement over smoothies, the older student (Charlie) mentioned that pineapple smoothies were his favourite. Her nose scrunched up a bit as she considered his statement. “I do like pineapple but I like strawberries more.. or raspberries or blueberries.” Extra points if the end product was a pretty shade of pink. Her eyes followed Anna’s to read the name tag who she too had no idea who it was but assumed it was something space related considering he was dressed as an Astronaut.

But with the talk of smoothies clearly still forefront in their minds, off the second year was pulled towards the refreshment table arm in arm with her fairy friend passing the Professor who Anna had interpreted as an ice cream man. “OHHHHH! THAT makes more sense.” Anna was so clever! “Are you Mr Magnum? OR or Mr Haaaaagen-Dazs” she giggled slightly butchering the pronunciation of the latter. On the rare occasion she was allowed ice cream at home it was usually for a small tub of strawberry cheesecake Häagen-Dazs.

Her stomach was about to start rumbling if it wasn’t for the arrival of Solomon. “SOLLYYYY!” she squealed dragging Anna with her to ambush the poor Slytherin boy in a triple hug. There was no opportunity to be grumpy around here. “I mean Peter Pan” she giggled smooshing his cheeks with her palms up into a fake a smile.

Desiree had taken a long time to pick an outfit for this little party. Of course she wanted to do something Disney-inspired, but the hard part was finding a way to fit in the career theme. The only fitting character she could think of was Tiana, and she’d already done a Tiana-inspired outfit for the Job Fair! She went in a slightly different direction with the theme, dressing up as Snow White. Not only was she the first Disney princess, she was from the first Disney animated movie. What could be more iconic than that? While the costume didn’t depict a career in and of itself, it was a kind of homage to the Disney animators who worked on the movie.

Desiree had gone all out with her costume, charming her dark hair into a bob hairstyle. She’d even transfigured her eye color from blue to Snow White’s brown! One might not know who she was, had her French-tinged accent not given her away when she spoke. “Hello, Professor!” That costume looked awfully familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she’d seen it! Something from a movie, maybe? “There’s no apple in these smoothies, is there?”

She made her way around the room, greeting the other students as she passed. “Hi, Charlie - or should I say Mr. Aldrin?” she said, noticing the nametag. “Hi, Vera! I love the butterfly top!” The butterfly graphic kind of reminded her of her dad’s Beauxbatons house. Lydia’s outfit got an approving smile from Desiree, though she wasn’t sure where it came from. “Hi, Lydia! Nice dress!”

Then she saw the group in Peter Pan-inspired costumes (Aurora, Anna, and Solomon). Asdfjkl!!! More Disney characters! The Disney-obsessed Hufflepuff beelined in that direction, waving at the group. “Oh my goodness! Don’t you three look adorable?” she said in her best Snow White voice.

If it hadn't been for Anna asking him to go as the Captain Hook to her.... something or other, Reuben would have turned up in his West Ham kit. And he was kind of regretting agreeing so quickly to this costume idea when he was getting ready and he'd seen the claret and blue in his trunk.

But he'd made a promise and he had a pirate costume complete with a hook to hold, so that was what he was wearing as he arrived. He glanced around at people as he entered, though he wasn't sure who some of them were supposed to be, and then made a beeline for Anna and Aurora and Solomon.

"Hello!" As he slung his arms around both girls, Reuben was momentarily jealous that the other boy was asked to be Peter Pan, but then he noticed that Solomon had tights on, and he was relieved. At least he'd been able to wear black trousers.

Feirgrund was pleased to see the students arrive all dressed up. So what if there were a couple not perfectly aligned to the theme? The effort was all that mattered, since it was subjective on who would be defined as 'Iconic'. Not to mention, some could find his attire inaccurate as well.

First was, "Hello Miss Ackerly," ahem, "Or should I say Miss Tinkerbell, I haven't seen Peter Pan around if you're looking for him," Nothing like humoring the look, "Ah, yes. There are many flavors... don't worry I left out the vegetables in each," Only fruity smoothies today. A question from the senior student, "Ah, good question, Master Bergstrand," Whether he'd be in the medical field as a muggle, "I believe so, perhaps even settled into teaching just like now," Usually, questions as such came from an inspiration, "I see you're an Astronaut, which one are you representing?" There were a number of famous astronauts. "Hello there, Miss Thanatos," She seemed to be channeling a century old look, was she one of the pop stars of that era? There were many potential guesses for that.

"Good day, Miss Clarke," She seemed to be heading toward the jukebox. He made sure to have nearly two centuries worth of music hits in it. And look who else arrived. Ben and Jerry? Feirgrund gave a hearty chuckle, "Not bad! You're not too far off on the guess Miss Walles, My outfit tends to serve burgers and fries more than ice cream," Now who was she? A combination of icons it looked like, before he could suggest his guess, look who else arrived, "Splendid outfit, Master Duck," That seemed to solve the mystery of Peter Pan's whereabouts. Either that or the Jolly Green Giant. "Hello Miss Marchand," As for the apples, "Most of them don't have apples, there's a label near the bottom listing the ingredients mixed in," Especially for those with allergies. While showing her, Feirgrund only just missed the entrance of Captain (Darcy-Stemp) Hook. It was a good enough time as any to address everyone.

"Welcome, welcome everyone! You all look splendid. Do take one of these blank name tags, and write down your icon so others can recognize you," He explained as each student walked by. "Now a party can't begin without some music, you're free to check out the jukebox in the corner with radio-friendly songs and mingle some more. In due time you'll have the opportunity to do a show and tell with your icon."

The Hufflepuff grinned. “Too bad for the Muggle world. They missed out on having you in either field.” Not that he was broken up about that. Feirgrund was the Wizarding world’s huge gain. The man was more than capable in both the medical and teaching fields here. “Buzz Aldrin. Would you take the opportunity to go up into the vacuum of space, professor, if it came up?” It was a topic for which he was interested in hearing the opinions of everyone he asked.

Glass of pineapple smoothie in hand now, Charlie surveyed the others who were making an appearance. There was Vera looking very glitzy and colourful; he was sure Anna would love that. “Want to find out?” Char asked, wiggling his eyebrows quite goofily. “Grab a smoothie, maybe, and we can jam out? Though I can’t promise I’m any good at dancing.” Maybe Lydia would also like to join in busting out some movies with them since the Slytherin was already headed for the jukebox.

“I can’t disagree there with you,’’ he told Aurora, bobbing his head in the process. "I enjoy having berries in my smoothies too, though I think I’ll have to up my strawberry game. How many strawberries would you recommend using when making a smoothie?” The older Hufflepuff thought that Anna’s costume outshone them all; she always managed to add such pzazz to everything she did. “Loving the costume, Anna! That’s really something you’ve put together there.” He good naturedly chuckled before he corrected her gently, but addressing both Anna and Aurora. “Al-drin. Buzz Aldrin was one of the first men to walk on the moon. I don’t think he gets as much recognition as his fellow astronaut who walked there with him…” Which was rather sad. “Have you heard of Neil Armstrong?” he continued curiously.

“Mr. Aldrin or Buzz is fine as long as I get to call you Snow White,’’ Char happily declared to Desiree. He thought she too had put a lot of effort into her costume. “I see Carton teaching us that Hair Transfiguring spell came in quite useful for you.”

Aurora was right, they WERE both cute. The only downside to their costumes were that the wings made it kind of tricky to give her usual squishy sort of hugs. You couldn't just THROW yourself at the other person and you sort of had to carefully weave your arms around the other's neck and do a gentle squish. Which is what the Hufflepuffle did not and in such a way that her and Aurora's cheeks were nice and squished together. At least they had used the same shade of blush on their cheeks so it didn't really smudge anything that ought not be. And she stayed liked that while Aurora went on to gush about Vera's costume while Anna's attention shifted slightly to the Ice Princess of Ravenclaw Tower (also known as Desiree). Anna really wasn't sure why she was changing her voice like that, but could only assume that it had something to do with her costume - which was yet another reference she didn't reaaaaaaaally understand but she sure bet Aurora would. "Thanks!" she chirped back. "Aurora is kind of the big brain behind it all." Give credit where credit is due! Though it was a combination of both their hyper minds to include the boys - best idea yet!

Her head title to either side when the professor explained that he was NOT an ice cream person but rather burgers and chips and...well...now she had no idea who he might be. Mr. McDonald was a CLOWN and the professor lacked both red fluffy hair and a nose. That was probably one of the only muggle fast food chains she really knew anything about - junk food and fast food were not common in the Walles household. "Oh, okay!" she chirped regardless of not understanding yet another reference. "I like the hat, professor. Even if it isn't directly related to ice cream." Heh, ice cream...raining ice cream...she had felt guilty much MUCH later about the mess she and Aurora had made in the kitchens - even if they had done their best to clean it up. And then her attention bounced to Charlie, who she offered a very chipper, "Nope!" in response to his question. Though she found it kind of funny how people said 'one of the first' when first meant in very essence that it was about just ONE person or thing. Just funny how words worked. "They didn't get there themselves, surely...do those people get recognition too?" Sure, she could pick up a book and read about this herself...but chances were she would forget before she got to the library. Plus, it was more captivating to hear people speak these truths and histories. Bonus points when they were excited about it and not because they were forced to because it was an assignment.

And then her eyes positively lit up. "SOLOMOOOOOOOON!" she sang as she finally untangled herself from Aurora so she could give her FIRST Hogwarts friend a big ol' hug. "You look very handsome. I already knew green was a good color to bring out your features, especially your eyes and freckles, but this brighter shade of green suits you too! Also SUPER impressed you got those tights on without any holes! I can never manage and mum gets quite frustrated with me while she mends them." He had a nice hat too. The feather was a cute little accent. Her excitement grew even more when Rueben appeared as Captain Hook. It meant their quartet was complete! "Reuben!" she giggled as she settled for a little side hug since he had mastered maneuvering around her wings already. "Don't you look dashing! Your hook is super neat too...I bet you can open things easily with that. Just give it a good whack to sink the tip into and then yank it open." Or at least that is how she imagined pirates to open things. "I'm so glad you decided to come. The both of you. Our duets are complete!"

Oh! Name tags! Anna grabbed one for each of their little group of four and while she passed them out looked to Aurora quite sheepishly. "Um...what was her name again? I mean...I can just put Pirate Fairy on this but she does have a proper name so I ought to do that."

Remarkably, Mitsuki did know a handful of muggle icons. Though her personal sphere of influence was quite narrow, she happened to go through numerous musical artists discographies each year in preparation for her performance calligraphy tournaments. It often took half a school term to find the right song to pair with her kanji of choice, and this year her research brought her to discover quite an old performer who offered very unique fashion. Finding this particular look had felt almost preordained considering the amount of talk she and Mercer had shared recently about being birds. She was embracing the title of Bird Girl and, in true Mitsuki fashion, doing so literally. The amount of ruffles wasn't anything she wasn't accustomed to...though white was. It was giving sweet lolita instead of her usual dark lolita motif. As per usually, she greeted none and simply observed the room in polite silence.

No, he was not really in the mood for squishy cuddles, especially squishy cheek squishes… or overuse of the word squishy…

Auroras’s sociable action, and her obvious attempt to try and cheer him up, only caused Solomon’s face to grow even more miserable. However, he did grin like a Cheshire Cat when an older student (Desiree) called him adorable. Did we detect a blush as well?! Yep!!! But back to his friends… “Gerrroffff.” He grumbled and wiggled free from her grasp. “Can’t believe I’m doing this… I even-” He began, before stopping to witness Reuben’s arrival. Solly squinted as he draped his arms around Anna and Aurora. Ummm… hello? They were Solomon’s girlfriends, thank you very much, although he hadn’t officially asked them, he supposed. Why else would they want him to be their Peter Pan, though???? He didn’t say anything to Reuben, just gave him this kind of look.

Solomon was VERY pleased to receive such a compliment from the professor, although Feirgrund was probably paid to say that to everyone. He did not understand the professors outfit in the slightest, but settled with, “Thanks, sir,” instead of asking. He messily scribbled Peter Pan on the name tag that Anna handed him, and then stuck it to his forehead. That’s what people did at parties, right?

Finally, a proper smile caused by none other than Anna Walles. Her many, MANY words always made an impact, because you can always be sure that it comes from the heart. “Not as handsome as you… uhh… PRETTY. You look… pretty.” Oh wow. In a bid to recover from that, Solomon latched onto the compliment about his tights, which provided him with all the encouragement he needed to try and embrace them. He stood with both hands on his hips, his best Peter Pan stance. “These are Neverland’s finest.” He was super proud that he remembered the famous place was called Neverland.

If it wasn’t evident from the HUGE grin on Aurora’s face, she was having the absolute time of her life with her FAVOURITE people all dressed up as characters from her favourite franchise. It didn’t matter that Anna wasn’t particularly privy to where her costume came from as she seemed equally as enthusiastic about it all as Aurora did. Being described as a ‘big brain’ was not something that she had heard often before. She turned her head to her curly haired companion before considering her next words. “I think that’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me” she answered squishing her friend in an embrace, sparkly wings crashing together in an explosion of twinkliness. Back to Desiree.. She bounced on the spot excitedly showing off her costume. “There’s nothing more ICONIC than Disney.” She might’ve missed the memo about being a celebrity or a career though.

Charlie’s question about strawberries received a temporarily confused expression before she answered with as much certainty as she could. “All of them.” Literally as many as you could possibly squeeze into the blender was satisfactory.

She was just about to answer Professor Feirgrund explaining that Peter would be along soon when Solomon showed up and so she simply pointed in his direction. Technically in the original film Tinkerbell wasn’t able to speak but quite frankly that was going to be a difficult task for the girl who didn’t know when to shut up.

It didn’t matter that Solomon was giving her a positively grumpy look as nothing was going to rain on her parade today. What might have spoiled her fun was that feather in his hat tickling her nose and almost creating an almighty sneeze that she had to stop by pinching her nose between her thumb and finger and letting out the most petite little ‘achoo’ “You’re doing this because you love us and you like to see us happy.” Duh. What could be better than making two very sweet girl gleam with happiness? She was just about to turn around when she felt an arm sling its way over her shoulder. “Reubyyyyy” she squealed reaching up to adjust his hat that had been knocked slightly askew by Aurora’s obnoxious wings. “Anna is right, you do look very handsome” her head bobbed in agreement.

Name tags? As if there would be any confusion over who this green fairy/pixie was supposed to be. “Zarina, the Pirate Fairy and Dust-Keeper.” Way too long a title for a small name tag but it felt like necessary information. She scribbled ‘Tinkerbell’ on her own tag and placed it on her left hand side. Solly however seemed to have taken it upon himself to slap the tag directly onto his forehead. “OH! I’ve played that game before.” The one where you had to ask questions and guess who your label was before everyone else did. Only Solomon was cheating by already knowing who he had written. Maybe they’d have to go around and swap tags until nobody knew who they were and play it that way?

The entrance of a beautiful swan was noticed by the petite human who sent a wave in her direction. “So pretty! Are you Odette from Swan Lake? My sister and I used to watch the Barbie movies when we were younger and she was in it.” Who was she kidding, Aurora would still watch them now if given the opportunity?

Mercer wasn't late, exactly, but there did seem to be a lot of people already gathered for the party. He spotted the Professor... perhaps dressed as a Healer?... by the food, as well as an alarming number of fairy folk. Either he was dressed wrong for this event, or he had a very broken understanding of what kind of careers were possible.
