| Kimothée Chalamet • The UWU Agenda • Once Baby, Now Trouble • All Growed Up Sailor had come to this duel well-prepared, having spent much of his time practicing his spell work for this specific duel rather than most of the homework that were expected from him. He wasn't nervous or scared, just eager to test his own abilities and walk out of the arena with some experience and perhaps bragging rights if he won. Not that he was the type to brag, that is. Maybe he'll brag to his sister, for the fun of it. Sometimes he lived to see his sister's eyes roll. Major if.
He also had no idea who his opponent was. Sailor made it a point to recognise each face he saw in class, so he was at least certain that this girl wasn't a fourth year. Perhaps older? Somehow the idea of him being able to duel with an older student was interesting to him.
Sailor nodded at the professor in acknowledgment as he passed by the man, on his way to his end of the arena. His opponent also received a nod from him. "Hi, I'm Sailor Zhang," the Ravenclaw offered nonchalantly, expecting the girl to introduce herself as well. While he wasn't opposed to going straight into the duel, he wasn't without socially acceptable behaviour. He then slipped his wand out of his holster, twirling it in his hand. "Ready when you are."
And then they can exchange more pleasantries and then good lucks and then even bow and stuff. All that dueling etiquette.

And then they can exchange more pleasantries and then good lucks and then even bow and stuff. All that dueling etiquette. Desiree was curious and maaaybe a little nervous about today’s duel. She wasn’t exactly the best duelist ever, but she was willing to give it a go. Maybe she’d learn something here that would help her defend herself someday if she ever needed to. That was why her overprotective dad insisted she do well in Defense Against the Dark Arts. He said there was no telling what the world might throw at her, so she needed to know how to protect herself in case he wasn’t there to do it for her.
The dark-haired Hufflepuff offered Professor Khanna a friendly smile and wave as she entered the arena, and her opponent likewise got a smile in greeting, She’d seen him around the school before but couldn’t recall his name until he introduced himself. “Nice to meet you, Sailor,” she replied. “I’m Desiree Marchand.”
So,,, now what? “I think we’re supposed to bow to each other,” she said, already bending at the waist. “Then who goes first?” Was she doing this right?

| Kimothée Chalamet • The UWU Agenda • Once Baby, Now Trouble • All Growed Up Desiree Marchand. Not that he was fluent in the language, but her name sounded exceptionally French and so he was already jumping to the conclusion that the older girl indeed hailed from France. Sailor was also going to commit her name to memory, and he'll remember her face now too. It was hard not to, when he didn't really make a conscious effort of making friends, so oftentimes it was the casual encounters that he'd find himself retaining. Not sure about him being nice to meet though, because he was certainly not a delight if his short list of people-he-could-call-friends-maybe was any indication, but he could ride along with the formalities and proper behaviourisms. He nodded in response. "Pleasure."
Was she nervous? She seemed to be talking a lot, at least in Sailor's opinion. He was a man of few words, unless he was in the mood for roasting people.
"We are," Sailor replied, and bent down as well to mirror the girl's bow. "And I can start." He figured if the girl wanted to start the duel herself, she wouldn't have asked. It was a big assumption to make, but he had been eager to duel and he didn't fancy wasting the precious time allotted for them today. Sailor looked towards the professor for approval, and for any instructions they might have to say before it was showtime. "Good luck, Desiree," the Ravenclaw added, like an afterthought.
Twirling his wand in his hand, Sailor got into position before adjusting his grip on his wand. "Flipendo," he muttered under his breath, sending a knockback jinx towards Desiree on the other side of the room. It was easy, a spell he'd known since he was a first year, and he trusted it enough as a starting spell. He wondered momentarily if he should've gone with its Duo or Tria variation, but suppose he was feeling nice. He can be nice. But also, he was saving his better suited spells for much later.
He waited to see if his spell would connect and prepared himself for whatever Desiree would throw his way.

He waited to see if his spell would connect and prepared himself for whatever Desiree would throw his way. If Desiree had known what Sailor was thinking, she would’ve told him he was almost correct. She was half French on her father’s side, though she herself was born and raised in England. But as she was not a legilimens and her nationality not relevant to the situation, she didn’t say anything on the subject. She simply observed her opponent as he returned her bow. So she’d been correct about that part…that was a good sign! Maybe she’d do better with this duel than she thought!
Despite her nerves, she didn’t allow any emotion to show on her face. Most people in this world won’t empathize with displays of emotion, her dad once told her. Be careful who sees your heart. And he was correct for the most part, especially in things like duels. The last thing she wanted was to show weakness that her opponent could use against her! While she may look sweet and delicate, she was a lot smarter and stronger than she seemed. She returned Sailor’s words with a polite nod. “Thanks, Same to you.”
And with that, the duel was underway. In a way, she was glad Sailor decided to go first. It wasn’t in her nature to be an instigator, and having her opponent go first bought her some time to see his dueling style in action and strategize accordingly. Okay, Knockback Jinx… As the spell came at her, Desiree stepped aside in a movement that wouldn't have looked out of place in ballet. She was going to save her shield charms for the more complex or damaging spells.
Start simple and work your way up… is that what we’re doing? She thought. She saw no reason to escalate straight to the more advanced spells just yet, so she countered with another simple first year spell. “Petrificus Totalus,” she cast, her bright blue eyes locked on the boy to see if her spell made contact.
