Welcome to your Term Long Assignment duel!

As you step into the Dueling Arena at the pre-assigned time for the duel, you notice that Professor Khanna is already there. They give you a hearty, encouraging smile and wishes you the best, regardless if they are your opponent or not.

Keep in mind that Professor Khanna will only interfere with the flow of the duel only if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.

Please remember to adhere to the DADA rules, SS rules and SS RPG Rules.

First person mentioned in the thread title is the person to start off the duel.

Dennis Walles did not duel. He wasn't even sure why he bothered to sign up for this, except somehow was hoping that maybe the extra practice would be good for his OWL studies. His only hope was that this Logan fellow would be an equal match.

Stepping into the arena he gave a small nervous nod to Professor Khanna, grateful for the Professor's reassuring demeanor, as he did some quick arm stretches ~~doubtful it would help but maybe if he pretended to be confident?~~

"Ready for this?" Was he supposed to cast the first spell? They had to bow first.

Logan Paton did duel. There were a few reasons for this. First, his father was an Auror, and he knew a thing or two from the man's stories. Next, it was an activity that required a deal of physicality and spontaneity, which he was more than happy to partake in. Lastly, duelling was significantly more exciting than the schoolwork he had to do. Needless to say, he was more than ready to take on whoever his opponent was.

He half-expected to be paired with Vera, Sable, or someone else in his year. So he initially was a bit surprised that Khanna had paired him with a student that was older than him. The Gryffindor didn't know really anything about Dennis Walles besides his name and year, that he was a Hufflepuff, and he was probably in some way related to Anna. Going into a duel with basically no knowledge of his opponent was going to make for an interesting challenge.

"Definitely," the blond replied with a nod. "You?" He did a low bow and then made his way to his end of the duelling platform, his wand at the ready.

Perhaps (if Dennis could read Logan's thoughts), Khanna had partnered Logan with an older student because it was one who was less experienced in the art of dueling so it would hopefully make for an equal match. Except for the fact that Logan Paton answered with a definitely, which increased Dennis' nerves more. Because he was not in fact, definitely ready. He shook his head as he mirrored the bow, trying to decide what spell to start with.

The way he was holding his wand so confidently though, had Dennis in half a mind to start with expelliarmus, but that was probably expected, wasn't it? So instead he settled on the Jelly-Fingers Curse, figuring it well enough to start with something to loosen Logan's grasp on his wand.

From what he could tell, the fifth year didn't seem as confident as he was when it came to the duel that had been arranged. It was either that or the older student was just being a modest Hufflepuff. Then again, this all could have been a front for all he knew, so Logan kept his eyes locked on his opponent. He needed to be vigilant and all of that jazz.

The Gryffindor waited in anticipation, wondering just what Dennis had up his sleeve. Would there be an attempt to disarm him or obscure his vision in some way? His dad had told him that was usually the first thing most would try to do in a duel.

"Protego!" he immediately stated before Dennis had even finished casting the Jelly-Fingers Curse. Within moments an invisible barrier had formed. As the spell that had been directed toward him bounced off the shield, a jinx left Logan's lips and an orange light illuminated from the tip of his wand. "Melofors!"

Dennis wished he was just being modest but alas when it came to dueling there was no faking it. He wasn't even sure why he'd signed up for this except he was hoping the practical experience would aide him in his OWL studies. Maybe even offer a stress relief.

He watched with anticipation, hoping to catch the Gryffindor off-guard in that he hadn't used the traditional disarming charm but alas his jinx had bounced off the invisible shield. Smart. Too bad Dennis wasn't that smart as he heard the pumpkin-head jinx from the fourth year's lips. So the Hufflepuff did the only logic thing his reflexes could manage which was to keep moving from side to side. It was hard to hit a moving target.

New approach. Aim for distraction measures rather than disarm, "Anteoculatia"

His wand remained raised, pointing right at Dennis, as his spell went soaring toward the Hufflepuff. When the older boy started moving from side to side and his pumpkin-head jinx didn't make contact, a wave of disappointment hit him. But he didn't allow the feeling to linger for long; he needed to focus and look for ways to get inside his opponent's head.

Logan was anticipating a disarming charm now from the Hufflepuff. Needless to say, he was surprised when such a spell did not come. In fact, the incantation that had been said was one that he had never heard before. Not having enough time to cast another shield, the boy dodged. His attempt was too late, the spell making contact with him, and within seconds pointy antlers were on his head. Oh, deer!

Now, this was just fawn-y. The fourth year let out a chuckle as he touched one of the tines -- he'd have to remember this one for a later time. His chuckling continued before he suddenly flicked his wand and uttered, "Rictusempra!" A silver light whizzed toward Dennis, who hopefully would get to join in on all the laughter. In the event the first spell didn't make contact and to doe off some steam, a second spell immediately followed: Tarantallegra. If Dennis wanted to move about earlier, well, he was willing to help with that.

Sometimes it still strikes Dennis with awe when his spell actually strikes and works. It wasn't that he was a bad wizard. But he just always liked to think of himself as more of a lover than a fighter. If there was a way to duel with words and warm hugs, he'd smother his opponent with such weaponry that the duel would probably be over before one could utter the first spell.

But alas, this antler spell worked and Dennis found himself equally amused at the sight as Logan was with having been struck by a harmless yet irritating spell. He didn't need to be hit with the first spell to go all out on laughter. Although had he been struck, he would have been laughing uncontrollably whereas his amusement right now was more just at Logan being amused by his predicament.

The fifth year wasn't so lucky though in avoiding the second spell, to which his legs started moving involuntarily. So much that the Hufflepuff found himself sitting down on his bum because he knew focusing would be impossible the way his feet were dancing. Was he disqualified if he could no longer stand? Perhaps he just needed to bring Logan to his level too. "Glacius Duo" he flicked, casting the spell at the floor where the Gryffindor was standing.

While the spell was sure to be a distraction or meant to be irritating, the blond didn't think so. Sure, now his head was much heavier than what it had been, but he couldn't help but consider for a fleeting moment that they could be used to his advantage if necessary. Imagining a Gryffindor charging at you with his antlers was both an amusing and terrifying thought. Fortunately for Dennis, he hadn't opted to do such a thing.

Instead, Logan was adjusting to the weight of his newfound accessory, moving his head this way and that. As he did so, he kept an eye on the Hufflepuff who was displaying a case of happy feet right now. Yet another chuckle sounded as the fifth year plopped down to the floor so that he wasn't widely moving about the space.

Realizing that this was as opportune time as any, he decided to move around to make aiming a little more of a challenge for his opponent while he was still on the floor. To his surprise, however, the floor was quite icy and not its usual stone. His feet slipped and he nearly fell over, though the weight of the antlers perhaps helped him with maintaining his balance. He then slowly but surely started to skate his way across the icy bit of floor. A quick "Mimblewimble!" was directed at Dennis as he scooted along.
