| | |  The Reptile Room
A short distance from Professor Paton's office/cabin there is a building that wasn't there before. From the outside it looks like an ordinary building if you paid no mind to the large sign above the door that said The Reptile Room. Or perhaps your eyes have already fallen upon one of the very large statues that sit on either side of the entrance to the building, a python and a lizard.
Once inside you will notice that the building is much larger than it appears from the outside. Every single creature has an tank/exhibit/area that is designed specifically for them and their needs and is larger enough for their comfort even if it may not look like. Remember children, magic is a beautiful thing. There are little cards on the glass of each tank with the species name, what abilities it has and whether or not the students are allowed to handle it.
If you would like to handle one of the creatures/or your own should you have one being housed here all you have to do is tap your wand against the glass and say "Alohomora". An area of glass large enough for you to get the creature in and out safely will open up for you. You may also help feed them, give them water or clean out their homes. All supplies are kept at the back area of the building and labeled neatly. There's also gloves handy in case if you would like to use those as well. | |

The timing of the croak from Naveen was impeccable, one could definitely assume it was in response to his joke. “Well, there you have it…one thing he’s definitely happy about. Not sharing his food. ” It certainly had made Mouse happy given the amused giggle she had let out. A sound that was quite pleasing to the ear.
A good thought, like all the good thoughts he had been given on the matter. “So very true…” he agreed. He could take his entire time at university to even chose a final major to start out with. “And Aunt Hads pointedly reminded me that even she had made the directional change.” From full on creature healer to COMC professor, and she was certainly still young enough to make further moves. And thankfully most of the NEWTs she had helped him focus on could work in either career so it didn’t make his test taking much harder, the biggest relief of all.
“I’m sure she will,” he answered to the affirmative. Though he supposed Rajah might also react to him as his human’s family and bypass his sister. Which he realized might be a better option given he remembered why he hadn’t thought of asking Dynah for help in the first place. The fact that the Hufflepuff firstie might look too much into the fact that he was helping Mouse, especially after the teasing on his love life.
Or maybe HE was overthinking it.

She was often curious and spent time considering just how much creatures really could understand the words of the humans around them, particularly in moments like this when it seemed as if the frog was chiming into their conversation. It would certainly be interesting to have some type of translation to hear what they were really thinking at each given moment. "Can you blame him? Who really likes to share food?" Sharing was caring, unless it was carbs - then sharing was nearly unheard of.
"Your Aunt is right! The benefit of a degree in a field interest too is that it's not that you're getting a piece of paper for only ONE career. And even then if you wanted to make a completely different change later... it's only another 4 years of study right? Knowledge is power - it never hurts to know more." What if after studying a few things he could offer an entirely new unique service based on his skill sets. Wouldn't that be interesting?
The news she'd be willing to help had her smile growing even a little more - glad to hear it was a possibility. It would be good to have her companion at his usual feisty self again - and if the owl didn't work well... at least she knew. Besides, perhaps getting to know Raj's younger sisters would also be kind of fun. They might be one of the only ways she could hear how his life was going next year anyways once he was graduated. A somber thought but... just around the corner for him and Jude both. "I'll have to make sure I have a way to properly thank her! Does she like any particular types of sweets the best?" Maman had always taught her the best way to show gratitude was snacks.

Well, that was true about sharing food with humans, so Rajesh figured why shouldn’t it be the case for toads as well. Creatures were people too you know. “Valid point…” he agreed with a nod, “unless it’s something that could be deemed unfavorable.” There were certainly foods that he would gladly hand over to anyone who liked them to get him out of it, especially growing up. Flies would rank right up there with them come to think of it.
“I get it…really.” Raj definitely felt better about things as the term had progressed after talking with people….like his aunt and Mouse. The seventh year shrugged. “Probably not even that long.” There was the crossover of skills after all. It wasn’t like he was trying to choose between clown and octopus wrangler. Now where had those ideas come from? He shook his head slightly to clear the image from his mind, turning instead to the seemingly upcoming plans with Dynah and Rajah and Naveen. Perhaps they would be a new infamous duo of owl and toad.
“Nah…she’s pretty open to things,” he answered, not thinking of anything in particular that stood out as a favorite of hers. Dy wasn’t quite as picky as say Ari with his inheriting their papa’s preference for sour treats rather than sweet. “I just warn you….she’s already got a lot of energy…so easy on the sugar.” Merlin knew what she could get into on too much of a sugar high.

She couldn't help another giggle at his addition, nodding her head quickly in agreement. "Bertie Bott's are the perfect sharing food for that reason, I think." Granted some of the flavors did appear unfortunately close in color which meant not every flavor she trusted enough to eat was necessarily tasty but... it at least made for a fun time when suffering with someone else. "What's your least favorite food?" She found the current conversation simply made her curious on what he'd be most likely seen sharing.
Truthfully, talking about all of this with Raj made her feel better about her own potential future as well. Come summer, it would be time to hit the ground running for herself - between making up the OWL exam she missed for having transferred late and then preparing for NEWTs and her own future after. There was no one area of study in which she was particularly skilled compared to others, and the only thing she truly seemed to enjoy was sewing and creating wearable art and yet... that was such a competitive industry, she was trying to be realistic as well. Which meant maybe it was time to just... pick an area to study. Like he said, crossover meant any changes could then be less time in university again. "You make a good point. I'm sure whatever you choose, you'll be amazing at it." She just hoped he loved doing it too.
A lot of energy? "I'll be sure to keep that in mind then in my pro offering of snacks." She grinned, giving a small chuckle. Maybe just a small container of fudges or shortbread or something similar. "You nervous about not being with them next term?"

Ah yes…the treat that was also a trick if you happened to pick one of the wrong ones. The seventh year would admit that he was okay with them. Options for everyone. Though given he didn’t eat sweets all that often, there were others that he might choose instead over the beans. Rajesh had to think though, about what he might consider his least favorite food. There had been some minor changes in his tastes as he grew up and were introduced to more things both at home and at school. “Not the biggest fan of sour foods…like pickles or beets.”
Raj wasn’t aware he had had it easy…his exams spread out with less chance of burning out in the process. He would just be glad when the latest batch was over and that he didn’t have to worry about having to do ALL the offered exams. Sorry Professor Gert, there would be Astronomy NEWT in his future as much as he may have liked her classes. It was one of the few classes he had taken but would not need as per his Aunt Hads or Professor Feirgrund. He found himself feeling a touch bashful at her compliment. “Thanks.”
Was it that obvious? Or was Mouse just that good at reading him. “A little…” he admitted. “I mean they’ll have each other for support which was definitely more than I had.” Leaving his parents and his siblings to be on his own and BAM a war to end the year. “And far more outgoing so friends will be easy.” He was aware they had already gotten the attention of some of their fellow first years. And maybe a slightly older student or two.

She wouldn't say she had a giant sweet tooth like some, but the occasional sugars were certainly welcomed. Though nothing tasted as good to her as the treats one could purchase at one of the Disney parks. Though perhaps that was more about her bias towards the whole experience than any specific flavor profile. But as for his least favorite foods? She could certainly agree. Well... half agree anyways. "I'm not sure who dug a beet out of the ground and decided it was a good idea to try to eat that. They must have been truly ravenous." But pickles? She was a big fan, but only of the ones she and her mother pickled together. "Is it all pickled foods you don't like or is there one that's a diamond in the rough?"
As long as it was nearly over for him and he'd soon have chance to relax after the big exams were out of his way. She was excited for him to be done! Even if there was a good portion of her that would be truly sad to see him and Jude not returning the following term. "You're welcome!"
It was neither. Just now that she and Rosie were actually getting along and she was feeling a bit more what it was like to be an older sibling, she could feel the slightest bit of worry for what would happen to her Hufflepuff sister after next year. But that was a year away, Raj's graduation was upon him - not to mention he'd been an older brother for far far longer. "Having a good support system is important, and it is nice they'll have each other. Hopefully the terms just continue to be quiet. This year seemed really tame so we can just have fingers crossed for that so you won't have to worry any extra." And she'd be around another year - she could look out for them too if that would make him feel at all better before her own exodus from the school.
