At the top of a long spiral staircase on the west side of the castle, you come to the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room. The door bears no doorknob or keyhole, only a bronze knocker shaped like an eagle. For those able to answer the knocker’s riddle, the door will swing open to reveal an airy, circular room. The room boasts one of the best views in the castle, overlooking the school grounds and surrounding mountains.

The room is decorated in varying shades of blue and bronze, from the silks adorning the arched windows to the starry-patterned midnight blue carpet. If you happen to look up, you’ll see the same stars reflected in the domed ceiling. Even the furniture follows the blue and bronze color scheme, with plush blue chairs and sofas topped with bronze cushions scattered about the room. Portraits of famous Ravenclaw alumni hang on the walls, and a white marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw herself stands beside a door at the opposite side of the room, Through that door you’ll find the stairs to the dorms.

THe common room is designed to be warm and inviting, so why not curl up with a good book and make yourself at home?

The Ravenclaw common room always had a bit of a crowd that Mercer didn't really mind, but it was never his preferred place for studying. He could curl up and play a game with his roommates or be otherwise social there, but he needed quiet and a complete lack of distractions for studying to happen.

Other people did study there, though, and since there was no one around to play games with OR be social with (studiers were so boring), Mercer was very busy building a castle out of other people's text books, using cushions from the sofa and the fireplace as some of the walls. He was, perhaps, being a bit disruptive, to be honest.

Speaking of bored, or rather generally disengaged from one's surroundings for no other reason than nothing in particular had captivated the attention, Mitsuki came gliding into the common room after seemingly infuriating the bronze knocker over the answer of 'silence'. Apparently her remaining silent as a means of answering (answering silence with silence) had not been the way to go about things and somehow the enchanted artefact had gotten it feathers all in a fluff over it. She could not comprehend why and was completely unbothered by the 15 minutes that had elapsed between the two of them...but apparently the knocker was. Curious indeed.

Stepping into the common room proper and with black ink smeared across her left cheek and just a little blotched on the tip of her nose, a waft of warm air from the fireplace spun her around and in the direction of Mercer constructing something that looked delightfully elaborate. Hence her ceasing her forward strides to watch him a bit before encroaching just a tiny bit more to carefully push one of the books he had stacked in a column more into place so its spine aligned with the rest of its companions.

"Hello, Girlfriend," Mercer didn't even glance up as Mitsuki approached. He could tell by the particular grace of her walk and by the way she stared just exactly who it was, and since he knew who it was, he didn't need to check. He just... needed... to perfect... the balance of this cushion.

Once it was settled, he gave her a grin and patted the spot on the floor in front of the fireplace. Beside him. Queen of his castle, if she wanted. "It's warm in here, and if we push the blankets back against the hearth, it'll be a perfect spot for reading without having to look at people studying." Again, he wasn't adverse to studying, but he wasn't interested in it at the moment.

It was curious how ever since the sleepover and their confirmation of her being his girl friend and he her boy friend that Mercer had become rather attached to calling her girl friend. It was ironic in the lack of hearing 'Suki' uttered from his lips that she found herself missing the nickname. Girl friend was just a descriptor and not one unique to her. It was...a curious choice to be sure.

What she did not question was his invitation and het feet were gliding forward almost before his hand had touched the floor with his patting. "And a unexpected use of books," she noted with admiration as she sat down and folded her legs under herself. "You do the unexpected. It's nice." Though perhaps not so much since she expected the unexpected from him? What an paradox indeed. "What are you reading?" She had no book with her at the moment, but did suppose she could just pull one, carefully, from one of the walls of their common room abode.

"The expected is... expected," Mercer replied with a puzzled air. Like, it was so obvious to him why it wasn't remotely interested to just show up and do the thing every day without questioning if it was the right thing or the best thing or even a fun thing. He flopped back against the hearth, the firelight casting flickering light on the top of his head and shoulders.

"I'm not reading yet. I'm building. Maybe I'll just write a story in my head and tell you that, and then that can be the story we both read. Or... listen to, I guess, which is probably still fun in a castle, right?"

"It is," she nodded in agreement. That was the very essence of the word, after all, so there was nothing to argue with. She was, however, still mulling over whether or not the unexpected could be expected and what qualifiers may or may not need be applied since the meaning of the words were like the opposite ends of magnets and therefore repelled one another, but it would have to be paradoxical thinking for another day.

"You could write it down in our journal," she suggested. Then that could be reading. "Or I could be your scribe and write it for you." As long as he continued to remained unbothered by her lack of capitalization. She simply found lower case letters more aesthetically appealing. The Branxtons were, as she knew, quite the storytellers. "It is your castle, you get to decide what is and is not fun."

"You're very smart," Mercer sighed, sort of disgusted with himself and in awe of Mitsuki equally. She always made common sense sort of observations seem easy, and it reminded him that he lived a thousand feet above the ground in clouds of his own making. "I guess it's good you like to be around me because I say smart things about as often as I fall out of bed."

Maybe she didn't know how often that was? Mercer propped an arm under his head so he could look more clearly at her "I never fall out of bed, just so you know."

Mercer often said words of unprompted kindness like that that still took her by surprise. She felt that 'smart' was a bit of an objective description seeing as everyone had their own unique quality of smartness to them, but she also did not know Mercer to be someone to tell lies...therefore if he said she was smart it was the wise thing to accept it as sweet fact. "I've been described as a realist," she stated, her head tilting a bit as she reflected upon this before drawing an additional conclusion. "You are a dreamer. Outside of the box thinking, able to be the source of your own inspiration, able to more easily see the good side and hopeful prospect in unfavorable situations." Which was a very round about way of saying 'silver lining', but she never saw anything flicker silver in these moments and it seemed quite the curious turn of phrase to do when...nothing was silver. "You have traits that I have not." And he had already explained himself that she possessed things he did not. "A symbiotic relationship, mutualism."

Turning her gaze away from her boy friend a moment, she noted that yet another book was ever so slightly out of place and not perfectly aligned with the book beneath it...so she gingerly fixed that. There. The book wall looked much nicer that way.

"...I am glad you do not fall out of bed and get a proper full night's sleep in bed."

It was best that, in times like these, Mitsuki took Mercer absolutely at face value. He couldn't mope in his feels for too long because she just shook out his feelings like a wrinkled blanket until there wasn't a bit of space left for mopes. Brightening a bit at her words, Mercer cast an arm around her and drew her down to lean against the hearth beside him. He'd been working on this move, ok?

"Sometimes Milo sticks himself to the ceiling over my bed. Did I ever tell you about that? It's too high for him to reach me, even if he stretches and I stretch, and it's dead funny." He smiled just thinking about it, even if it technically had nothing to do with falling out of bed. Beds, though. It had to do with beds.

Her own eyes brightened at his face lifted and her teeth nearly peeked out from behind her lips in an almost smile. Mercer was, and had been for a long while now, incredibly harsh on himself in a nonconstructive sort of way. Mitsuki could be quite the perfectionist herself and...knew something about comparing herself to others. A very specific other person. She never felt like she had to do that with Mercer though and it was his complete acceptance that had her accepting this new maneuver of his despite it taking her a bit by surprise. Thus, she leaned against him and rested one arm lightly across his chest since that was where it naturally fell. Strange, though not so strange if she paused to think about it, how the hearth felt considerably warmer now.

"I do not recall you sharing this," she replied softly, her eyes looking up at the ceiling as if Milo would appear there to look down at the both of them. Mitsuki was not close to any of her dormmates and kept to herself when she did have to return to her dormroom. She wasn't laughing nor smiling about this information either, but she also had not been present for whatever humor the dead shared in these moments.

"I wish you could share a dorm with us too. Then we wouldn't have to figure out how to relay my moments with you to him and my moments with him to you." Mercer had a brief flare of panic that she had stories with Milo that he had no part of, but everyone had stories. Everyone had stories that were their own, so it did no good to worry about not being part of all the stories of the people he loved.

"Have you ever stuck yourself to the ceiling? I'm not sure how to do a spell like that, but Milo can just do things. I wonder if Milo even knows how he does the things he does." Imagine the nonchalance in just knowing how to do spells like that?

Mercer glanced at the top of Mitsuki's head as it tucked against him, suddenly acutely aware that the cushion castle shielded them from everyone else's view. It was scandalous, wasn't it? He hadn't meant to be scandalous. "Erm. I'm too warm. Sorry." He carefully set her to the side and scooted away.

Ironically, or perhaps unironically, Mercer did not list off any necessity of relaying moments of herself and Milo to him. Though, he may be relieved to know, such were few and far between as Milo seemed to be as fleeting to her these days as catching smoke in her bare hand. It saddened her, to a degree, that Mercer had many instances. Though it was only natural for such a thing to occur if for no other reason than they were dormmates and therefore the amount of time the two spent together was much greater. "It would be nice," she agreed with a small nod. "Spending time together is usually my favorite part of the day."

It was nice to be surrounded by unconditional acceptance.

She shook her head again, the ceiling not being among the things she had stuck herself to. "Perhaps a similar spell to the one we used on your birthday last term," she considered thoughtfully while slightly pursing her lips. Their scaling adventure and subsequent discussion of Spiderman ending on a somewhat alarming note, Mitsuki nonetheless was confident that using the same charm could be applied to sticking ones self to the ceiling.

Feeling him shift a bit, she ventured a small peek upwards just in time to witness his flustered profile sliding sideways followed by the rest of him...and despite his tender touch she lost her own position and slumped on to the floor with a soft thud...and may have disturbed some of the book wall, though not enough to compromise the integrity of it. "Do you require some water?" she asked while straightening herself and smoothing her skirt back over her knees with the most subtle of shivers. Fixating her gaze on Mercer's features, she tilted her head to the left and the right and then back to the left again before speaking. "You do not usually preface things with an 'erm' unless there is a particularly amplified stressor."

"I don't need water. I'm fine." Was he fine, though? He felt warm, so at least he hadn't been lying when he thought he'd been lying, and his face was all hot. That seemed the opposite of fine. Mercer inched back to gently prop Mitsuki back up, though, since he hadn't meant to make her fall and it made him feel like a jerk to hurt her.

"Spending time together is my favorite part too, actually. I should go find Milo and invite him... he'll probably rearrange things, but he'd still like to be invited. Shall I go find him?" And make this less clandestine and so less absolutely terrifying?

Mitsuki had recently read a publication which claimed that 'I'm fine' was the most common lie in the spoken English language. A claim that made her briefly wonder what the most common lie was in other languages but it was a curiosity that did not linger for too terribly long. Her skepticism was not entirely persuaded, but she also had no logical reason to doubt Mercer as anything less than true to his word - even if there was an internal knot or two that was causing some unease.

She wondered if she ought to feel the same sort of guilt Mercer was clearly experiencing now with Milo not being present, but she did not find herself even considering it in the slightest seeing as he had an advantage with receiving one-on-one time with their mutual friend simply because of gendered dorm assignments. So there may have been the slightest of frowns with Mercer's suggestion but it could be easily missed unless he was paying acute attention to her lips at the moment. "If you want. It is your book castle," she reminded him.

"It is my book castle," Mercer agreed, stretching his feet out a bit until he could knock one of the cushions sideways. It opened up the castle just enough that the rest of the room was part of the castle and the castle was part of the rest of the room. "Made a window." Wasn't he clever?

"We can get him soon. I'm feeling kind of like both my legs are broken. What do you think? Can't possibly move now."

Quietly pleased that Mercer had accepted his proprietor status, she settled into a somewhat more comfortable position while he set to a bit of remodeling at the apparent expense of limb. While she did not truly believe that such and act had resulted in the claim he made, Mitsuki could play along and, if nothing else, it provided her the opportunity to practice that which she had learned from Healers of Tomorrow meetings in a non-facilitated setting.

"Would you accept the setting of your legs by my hands and wand?" she inquired with a certain eager twinkle in her hazel-green eyes. "It is important to stabilize the patient and their injuries to prohibit them worsening."

"No, uh... what?" Mercer sat up a little with a flush. It was so awkward that Mitsuki took things so literal, when Mercer himself was playful with his language. It led to these sort of misunderstandings where he had to explain what he had meant and hadn't meant and should have meant but didn't mean. Luckily, Mitsuki never seemed flustered at taking things too literally, even if Mercer himself was flustered feeling like he'd tricked her somehow.

"I just meant I'm too lazy to get up right now. I'm not broken. Don't fuss over me, okay?"
