Tucked away in a niche on the far wall of the common room is a nondescript bookcase. At first glance, it appears that all the books on the shelf are arranged in alphabetical order, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice one book out of place. The book in question is a particularly battered black volume with faded lettering along the spine. Anyone who attempts to pick it up to see where it belongs will soon find it isn’t a book at all!

Touching the black book causes the bookshelf to magically pivot, revealing a secret book nook within. The back wall is lined with shelves full of books on a wide variety of subjects. While the selection isn’t as vast as the school library, it should be enough to tide over even the most voracious bookworm. Several wooden study tables and chairs sit in the middle of the room for those needing a quiet place to do homework. If you’d prefer reading for pleasure instead of academics, there’s a cozy corner of the room stocked with pillows and blankets just for you! So find your favorite read, pull up a pillow or a chair, and get comfy!

Grandpa had explained some reasons to her in the past, but he tended to adorn his speech so much that Mitsuki all too often found her thoughts wandering here and there and rarely absorbed all the wisdom he was attempting to bestow upon on. Perhaps he if were more succinct...

"A puffskein," she corrected in a gently but monotone tone, though not unkind as she watched the tiny creature continue to roll around and hum louder and louder each rotation. "It is not a natural color." Which was more of a confirmation to his observation since it was only to be expected that he had not seen such a color before. "That is Pistachio."

And Pistachio seemed to be incredibly intrigued with his foot. Perhaps it smelled nice.

It sounded like an entirely, excuse her pun, magical experience. Both literally and the figurative way she would have said before age 11. "I'm glad you found all of that. Or I suppose... all of that found you?" Either way one wanted to look at it, the universe had truly blessed all of those involved by matching the optimistic family - both extended and immediate - all together.

See, she wasn't even sure she KNEW that dragon breed name. Which was probably shown by the slow blink on her face, before she glanced around the nook quickly to see if there was any dragon book on the shelves to get a vision of what he was mentioning. "I don't think I've seen one of those, but the name alone makes it sound like it would be quite the beauty." Opaleye had her picturing a dragon, essentially entire covered with scales similar to that of the sheen of her mother of pearl necklace up in her dormitory. Even if it was wrong, it was certainly quite the imagery. A bowtruckle however, she certainly knew what those looked like! "They really are cute little creatures. And can be so feisty!" She was partial to nifflers herself, for pretty much the same reasons as what she stated as characteristics of the bowtruckle.

"Thanks..." he said just a touch bashfully. The seventh year perhaps took it for granted of how fate had actually worked in the end. How timing and other things had laid it all out. "Um...probably more found me." After all Daddy Adi and Papa Benny had been the one actively looking for someone to adopt while he was just waiting at the orphanage.

Noticing her looking around, Rajesh almost raised and eyebrow curiously until he realized what her intention was. She was looking for a book…on dragons…and coming up short. His own gaze not having any luck either. He had one upstairs in his trunk of course, some small tome to kind of remind of him of home, but he wasn’t sure trying to summon it from here was going to work. He’d have to remember to show her later. “Kind of a pearlish white, sometimes a very pale blue,” Raj tried to describe instead. “And when the sun hit them…” Well, they were very pretty.

And his second choice hadn’t needed any pictures or descriptions, but then he supposed they were easier for more people to be familiar with. There were several within the animal reserve on the grounds. “Uh huh…” he agreed with a nod, “a whole personality to them.” Incredibly playful at times unless you’re threatening their trees which of course Raj would never do.

She simply smiled back at him, noticing the touch of bashfulness and deciding not to push further and risk making him even more so. Plus, while she didn't know the details of how their family all met, either way the universe must have been pushing from both directions - because everyone ended up where they needed to be.

She was surprised when he elaborated, figuring perhaps she hadn't been as sneaky in her glance around as she thought. Which made sense, considering she'd been not sneaky in the slightest. But the description of the dragon's? Her eyes sparkled a bit and she determined to find a book as soon as possible, because those sounded SO pretty. "That sounds absolutely beautiful! I can imagine why it would be your favorite. How is their temperament?" Not that that generally mattered when it came to dragons, who were dangerous no matter what if one was not careful, but she was curious.

She certainly tried to not make a habit of threatening their trees either. Last thing she wanted to do was make enemies of the critters around. "I heard there's a bowtruckle island on the grounds too? Do you go out and visit them here a lot as well?"

Rajesh was fine with the dropping of the talk of his family…if he really noticed fully. The creature talk persevered however, which was how it usually did in his family, especially talk of one of two creature breeds. Beautiful. That was true for sure. “Mhmm…” he agreed before thinking on what to say in answer to her question. “Well, I think they’re actually listed as the least dangerous dragon in the world.” So that gave you some clue on the opaleye’s temperament. “Very loyal too.”

The hufflepuff of dragons.

“Yeah there is,” he confirmed with a nod. And he had spent some time there over the years with the creatures “Though I don’t get there that much.” One because he tended to share the love amongst the bowtruckles, and two, so they didn’t get overloaded with plenty of students to give them attention each year. And he hadn’t even visited so far this term though he supposed it was still early.

Talking about creatures put the itch in her brain that she wanted to do some more reading on them - which then also came the reminder that she did still have some CoMC homework that she needed to complete. Which meant that as much as she wanted to sit here in this charming little room and continue to get to know a peer, it was probably time to get back up to her dorm. "I'm definitely interested in knowing more about them, but I'll find a book instead of continuing to grill you." She smiled good naturedly, figuring he seemed the type that wouldn't mind and yet - he should still be spared.

And as for bowtruckle island? "I'll have to get down there soon too. Just to take a glance around." She wanted to see as much of the school she could in her next two years - though she worried it wouldn't be enough given how large the place was. Carefully standing herself up, she brushed off her skirts and smiled at him again. "I guess I should go get to our homework. Thank you for letting me come spoil your quiet time and enjoy this room. It was nice getting to know you more too." And she'd just have to hope she hadn't bored him too terribly much. "I'm sure I'll see you later in classes. Have a good evening, Raj!" She gave a small wave with her fingers, before making her way carefully out of the book nook.

Off to homework.
