| | |  Professor Hernandez's Hut
Off the edge of the grounds near the border of the Forbidden Forest, Professor Javier Hernandez has taken up post as Groundskeeper. He now spends his off days and evenings in his new hut, relishing in the peace and quiet out on the grounds. To the side of the hut, Javier has started a small garden - mostly common potions ingredients, but he has a few tomato plants there as well. Huge signs at state "NO GNOMES ALLOWED" line the edge of the garden - doesn't hurt to try, right? The wreath on the door also changes depending on the season, which is how he shows his holiday spirit in his own little way.
If you have any questions about potions, this is the place to find your professor. You can also stop by if you notice anything seems off with the grounds - or if you just want to have a cup of tea with your grumpy potions professor. he actually DOES enjoy the company every once in a while, believe it or not. Chances are he's in, so knock on the door and wait patiently for him to answer.

Sophia had finally started arriving places without having gotten lost on the way. And now that that barrier had been cleared, she thought she better start getting on the good side of her head of house. Not that she was on his bad side, she always made sure to pay attention in class and be in bed by curfew, but a little extra flattery never hurt.
And, since Professor Hernandez spent all his free time outside, it also meant she got to be outside, too. Maybe while she was here, she could talk to him about getting some sunshine in the Slytherin common room or dormitories. When she reached the door, Sophia wiggled a hand out of her mitten and knocked. Mittenless hands knocked louder, or so she'd heard. |

He was just finishing up some grading when he heard a knock at the door. Raising an eyebrow, he walked over and opened the door to find Sophia Svensson, one of his newer Slytherin students. He smiled politely at her and opened the door wider. "Ah, hello Miss Svensson. Do come in," he said, not wanting to leave the young girl out in the cold, of course. Numerous heating charms around his cabin made it the far more comfortable alternative location for a conversation.
"What brings you out here today?" he asked, glancing at the weather outside as he waited for her to come inside. At least the sun was out today.

When he opened the door, she smiled brightly. "Hullo Professor," she said, stepping in through the door at his invitation and quickly pocketing her mittens. "Oh, I just wanted to come see you, maybe talk about potions," she said with a shrug, standing a little awkwardly in the cabin as she looked curiously around. "And it's just nice out," she added. A little honesty went a long way, she thought. And it was relatively pleasant outside. For winter, at least.

"Tea?" he asked, waving his hand and starting a kettle of water on the stove. Even if she didn't want any, he was in the need of a pick me up after all that grading, so tea would be made regardless.
"It is pretty nice out...for winter in Scotland," he remarked with a small chuckle as he sat on the opposite side of the coffee table in his own arm chair. He paused and thought about her question, and then gave a little shrug.
"Not particularly. I like being alone. I'm a bit of an introvert, I'll admit," he told her. Truthfully, he LOVED the peace and quiet out here. It was one of his favorite job perks. "I do have my cat Pepper...but he's not around at the moment. Probably off hunting mice," he added as an afterthought. Pepper had moved to Hogwarts with him this year now that Cami was at school. She hadn't wanted to take him with her to uni, and he understood completely. The cat was crankier than Javier was on a good day...best to keep him away from rebellious youths who were experiencing higher education freedom for the first time.

At Professor Hernandez's invitation, Sophia hopped into the armchair he'd indicated and swung her feet a bit as she looked around some more. "Oh, yes, please," she said politely at his offer of tea. Even if it was nice out, it was still cold outside and she could do with some warming up. The little hut was plenty warm and very cozy, she thought.
"You like being alone?" she repeated. That actually made sense for him to live way out on the grounds. And even if she didn't like being alone herself, she thought living in the fresh air would be pretty pleasant. It reminded her of their home in Scotland, before her mum and dad decided to move the family into a city. She was a bit disappointed his cat wasn't here, but maybe she'd meet him sometime in the next seven years. "I have a cat, too! His name is Orpheus. Like from mythology." She thought it was important that she explained where her cat's name came from. She thought it made her sound smart. | |
