Off to the left of the common room you'll find two labeled doors - one with "BOYS" written on it and the other with "GIRLS". Once you enter the door, you'll find a long hallway with seven individual doors, each labeled with the appropriate year - first through seventh. Each room rotates along with the years, so get comfortable with your surroundings - you'll be spending all seven terms there!

Each room has individual beds for each student, along with a spot for their trunks, a nightstand for their personal items, and their own privacy curtain. Each bed is spaced evenly apart from all the other ones - not too close, but not so far that you feel separated from your peers.

While Mia had expected to be voyaging up to Ravenclaw tower this evening, the journey to the Slytherin common room had been an adventure. It was like a bizarre, elaborate maze to get there, the secret stone wall entrance was wicked, and the common room itself was eerie but gorgeous. As the first years were led through the green-tinted room to their new dormitory, Mia had whispered excitedly to the others that it could be fun to spend one of their free afternoons this week sitting beside the lake windows to see what might pass by. Maybe they would see some grindylows or the giant squid!

When they reached their dormitory, Mia rushed inside eagerly, stood in the center of the room, and took it all in. "Does feel a bit like we're in a snake's den, doesn't it?" This was the first time she experienced disappointment since being sorted; if she had been Gryffindor or Ravenclaw like her parents, she would be in a dorm towering high above the grounds with a view of something, while here, she was certain the lack of sunlight would make it hard to get up in the mornings.

With a wry sort of smile, she declared, "Well, home sweet home." Trying to make the most out of the situation, she identified the bed with her trunk beside it, kicked off her shoes, and bounced onto it, crossing her legs pretzel-style and looking around at the others to see whose bed was where and if they needed to redecorate - she thought Giselle and Phoebe needed to be next to each other for sure, and Mia had wanted to be closest to them or Soph, but she had also prepared for the possibility that the other girls, Maisey and Norah, would start feeling left out if the St. Woboldo's girls started acting like they were the only ones in the room, which would be a detrimental start to the dorm's dynamic for the next seven terms, so Mia knew they had to work hard to be inclusive in their shenanigans.

"What do we think?" she addressed them all, hopeful that someone would see the potential in this place.

Maisey followed along with all of the other Slytherins as they made their way down the dungeon common room. Turn by turn she followed mentally making notes of left or right, right now it felt like she was definitely lost. She felt that she would be in the state of being lost for weeks. Which could be likely. It was a maze getting through. Finally they stopped at the wall, curiously she watched as the password was spoken. Studying the stone wall, it must be a specific patch of the stone wall where the entrance was. She slipped in with the others.

To her surprise, or maybe that was just the way she had imagined it to look, a green glow illuminated the entire common room. Strangely it had a bit of coziness that she didn’t expect from here, though it was cold, dark, and a bit eerie. She was glad she decided to bring a few extra blankets from home. Then she noticed the windows, like looking into an aquarium. She could not wait to go look out of them. Who knew what she would see floating or swimming by.

Finally they reached their dormitory and Maisey followed the other first year girls into the room, standing in the middle which was the best place to get the full scope. It was even less exciting than the common room, at least there was a fireplace there. ”Welcome to the snake pit.” Honestly the nickname was fitting for the room. ”It’s interesting, that's for sure.” Spotting her trunk, she went to it and sat on it. She wasn’t quite sure all sitting on the bed just yet. Looking around the room yet again she sighed ”I'm sure we can liven it up a bit.” They could all add their own little touches to the room. With her mischievous grin returning to her face, she hopped up, opened her truck and pulled out her hot pink super plush blanket and laid it neatly on the foot of her bed. Mmm…. every little bit helped right?

Phoebe was just constantly judging. Her parents made sure to tell her the trip to the Slytherin common room wasn't the greatest but don't judge until you saw the actual space. Which ok once she entered she could see what they were saying. but still the dungeons. At least it wasn't hard to actually get to, so the odds of her getting lost were low. With her stomach full and she entered the dorm and judged the beds right away. Now that will take getting used to.

ok enough being dramatic for this first-year snake. Mia was already here and she was asking a good question.

"The beds will take getting used to but can't be too bad..looks comfy enough...the common room I mean" Maisey was right they could liven the place up a bit. " Some posters and some books and this place will look nice quickly" Phoebe said looking around again. Nice indeed. Snake pit sounds wrong but she couldn't think of anything better. "Would it be snake den or pit?" she asked out loud. Not really to anyone in particular.

She will be fine with Giselle and Mia here.

She was going to get lost. She was going to get lost, and end up having to sleep in the Great Hall or a classroom or (in a worst case scenario) perish in a slimy dungeon corridor like an Athenian youth sacrificed to the Minotaur. Why hadn't they been given maps??? Sophia resolved to stick close with the other students until she knew her way around. If they were together, they'd be more likely to be found.

Once the first years finally got to their dorm, Sophia let out a big sigh of relief that her trunk and all her things were here. Following Maisey's example, she immediately dug into her trunk and got out the two stuffed animals she'd brought--a rabbit and a bright pink dragon. Hugging them close, she sat on her bed and looked around at her friends and new dormmates. "I think den sounds cozier," she said.

She looked around some more, her nose wrinkling critically as she considered ways to make their standard-issue dorm room more...well, more theirs. "We could get some plants?" she suggested. She wasn't sure how well a plant would do in the dungeons, but she was sure they could make it work. Speaking of living things, though...she looked around. "Does anyone see my cat?"

Giselle was rather feeling proud of herself, if only because she remembered all the stories mum and dad had told her and her siblings about Hogwarts. And, seeing as she and Fee were following in their footsteps, at least, it meant she ought not to get lost on the way to the Slytherin common room. She still kind of thought Xander was a bit of a traitor for ending up in Hufflepuff, but then none of them were in the towers like a proper princess (or prince in her brother's case) should be. She'd make her own way.

Plus, she knew Fee was judging everything. They'd have to discuss things later to compare their thoughts, but first... They hadn't had to share a room for ages now so that was going to be something to get used to. Although she decided it wasn't bad, sharing with her sister, Mia and Sophia. Although she immediately came to the conclusion that pink wouldn't look right in the greenish light of the rooms. Oh well.

"Why can't it be the dragon den?", she asked, following Maisey and Sophia's idea of getting things out of their trunks to start making themselves at home. Especially as she saw one of Sophia's plushies. She dug in her own trunk and pulled out Meraxes, settling the plushie dragon on her bed next to a sleeping Mysaria.

"What's your cat look like?" She didn't know Sophia had a cat too. That made at least three in the dorm.

Norah followed along with the other first year Slytherins, blending in with the students. She hadn't said too terribly much at the feast, other than introducing herself and simple pleasantries. Norah wasn't one for much conversation when first meeting people. Her Aunt Sarah said it would turn people off if she didn't try making conversation occasionally; Norah was still indifferent about it.

Once they arrived to their final destination, Norah slowly turned in a circle to take it all in. She remembered her father talking about the Slytherin house when she was little. It seemed like forever ago, like a distant memory she was still trying to hold on to. She giggled when Maisey called the area 'the snake pit' because it was all too accurate in Norah's mind.

Norah turned to Giselle. "Dragon den would have been infinitely more fun." She smirked. "But snakes are cool too, I guess." Norah shrugged her shoulders. While she wasn't super fond of the slithery creatures, Norah did appreciate them as she did with most animals. Her eyes darted between all the girls, and then between the cats. She gave a small smile, thankful the girls had normal animals and not something weird, like a turtle.

Mia hadn't brought any posters to put up on the walls, just photographs of her family and friends, but Phoebe's ideas were right on track, and Mia voiced her approval with an, "Oooh, yeah!" Plants were good, Mia nodded at Soph eagerly, and pondered what would thrive here in their dormitory as she looked between her, Maisey, and Giselle beginning to make themselves at home. At Soph's mention of her cat, Mia gave a brief glance around the dorm before reasoning, "He probably made himself at home under one of our beds. Orpheus, c'mon out!"

Snake pit, snake den... they both were rather underwhelming, Mia thought, and brightened dramatically at Giselle's suggestion. "Dragon's den!" She pointed at Norah enthusiastically as the light bulb flicked on in her brain. "Wait, that IS loads better! We should get to be the house of dragons!"

She'd sat up on her knees now, too excited to talk this out. "Listen-- I mean, Salazar Slytherin was actually literally kind of the worst, wasn't he? He wasn't even a good founder," she scowled in exasperation. "He's like, the ultimate puritist or whatever with his anti-Muggle beliefs, and sicking a whole entire basilisk on Muggleborn children in an educational institution should've been grounds to remove his name from everything ages ago. Why do we have to be snakes and represent his hatred? It's 2109! We should be--" she wracked her brain for any famous members of Slytherin house that represented their attributes, "--Merlins! 'Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Merlin,' the Hogwarts houses." She looked like she had just discovered a thirteenth use for dragon's blood.

"It's been over a thousand years - Hogwarts is due for a rebrand, and when we get this changed with the Hogwarts Board of Governors, we," she gestured among them, "are going to get a say in the living quarters of our new house."

From idea to game plan in less than thirty seconds. "And I want windows, with sunlight." It was vital to the cause.

Norah sat down on top of her trunk at the end of her bed. She pulled her legs up and rested her chin on top of her knees. Mia was getting rather excited at the sound of dragons, which to be fair, is a totally reasonable and acceptable thing to get excited about.

At the mention of their House namesake and questionable ethics, Norah rolled her eyes and grumbled. "Who ever thought that stuff was okay?" While Norah didn't agree with the stuff that Salazar Slytherin did, she didn't think they needed to strip his name from everything, it could still serve as a reminder of what-not-to-do.

"Ugh, some sunlight would be wonderful. Norah mused. And maybe...less dark and gloomy, you know, the 'woe is me' vibe is not really working anymore. Norah stood up from her trunk, opened it carefully and watched as her overflowing trunk started to spill out. "How else are supposed to be awesome if we don't have sunlight?" Norah asked as she carefully picked through her disorganised yet organised to her chaos to find her pink and purple fuzzy slippers.

Plants would have been a nice addition to the room and make it feel more home like if that was a thing. Phoebe liked that idea. So on for den so far. she will just keep a mental track since getting out anything was too much effort right now. Missing cat??? ah well Giselle and Mia where taking care of that. Dragons...while being cool by themselves it didn't really fit since they where slytherin.

Oh look what you did Giselle, you set Mia off.

"So you want to rebrand as House of Merlins...why not dragons? would be cooler"

Keeps it as an animal and would be slightly cooler than a old dead dude. The rest she agreed with. no harm in asking for windows and sunlight. Or basically was Noah said

"Guess we would have to go outside like a lot which eh"

Maisey was all too giddy as she unpacked a few more things from her trunk that could possibly liven up the room a little. She perked up at Phoebe’s poster and book suggestion. She loved that idea as well. Though her posters were in her bedroom at her house and they were all muggle movies and singers. She did convince her parents to let her get a few wizardry music albums and magazines over the summer so she would have a little knowledge of wizardry pop culture. But she just had a small limited range at the moment. Maybe after she got her group of friends all that other stuff would fall into place.

There was so much she wanted to ask the girls about living in the magical world. But maybe tonight wasn’t the best time to ask ALL the questions she had. ”Mmmm… Den does sound cozier I suppose.” looking around at the girls. It really didn’t matter to her pit or den. Not that big of a deal.

Sophia suggested plants, this made Maisey give her a big smile and nod of approval. ”Oh what about making our own decorations and posters?” She loved making her own decorations and things for her room at home, or on holidays Christmas was her favorite to make homemade decorations with her siblings. Also speaking of siblings it was cool that there was triplets in her year and two of the three were her dormmates. Giselle was now taking some of her things out of her trunk too. See they could totally liven this drab room of theirs.

A cat? ”Mmm… no I haven’t seen one.” Mia’s suggestion sent Maisey to the floor to peek under her own bed. Nope no cat… nothing at all under her bed. She sat up and flopped on her bed. She wiggled a few times to get comfortable. Yep this bed was going to take some getting used to.

Maisey was still astonished that dragons were actually real. Like they weren't just in fairytales. When Norah suggested dragons den. She was right it was even better than snakes. ”Dragons? Now we’re talking. I mean I only found out that dragons really do exist like a few months ago.” she said excitedly, and she had been pretty much obsessed ever since.

She started to wiggle again, this time nervously as Mia talked about the Slytherin founder and the anti-muggle stuff from back then and even the most recent wizard war. Well she didn’t quite know how to feel about it all. Again Maisey had a bunch of questions about the magical world. Surprisingly it had also made her go quiet and calm for a few minutes. Not even here five minutes and they were already starting a revolution... rebranding.

"He's black and white," Sophia told Giselle before moving from her bed to the floor (brrr!) to look for her cat under the bed. "Orpheus???"

As the other girls talked more about decorations and such, Sophia made a mental note to write to her brother asking about plants. If anyone knew how to pick plants that would survive living in a dungeon with them, it was Phillip. Or probably the Herbology professor, but she didn't want to ask him for help before he had the chance to see she was really smart herself.

"A dragon would be a cool mascot, but we couldn't have a dragon in the castle," she said. It was just logical. Plus, none of the other houses had magical mascots. She beamed at Norah. "Lots of people used to think that wizards were better than Muggles, they even fought wars over it," she told the other girl, in case she didn't already know. "What other famous people were in our house?" If they were going to suggest renaming their house, they had to consider all the options.

Still on the floor (the better to see a cat scurrying), Sophia piped up again. "Does everybody have slippers? I think we're going to want them pretty soon." The floor was chilly already, and it was barely September.

Did she feel any guilt over setting Mia off on her little rampage against history? Not at all, but especially not when Giselle was a bit preoccupied with Sophia's missing kitty. "He's like a mix of Mysaria and Fee's kitten then", she said with a giggle, laying on her stomach and dangling an arm off the end of her bed to maybe entice Orpheus to come out from wherever he was hiding. If he was under a bed, anyhow. She wasn't going to get on the floor like his mum was. She could imagine how dirty the floor was, considering they were in the dungeons and all.

Which was something she really wished mum and dad had warned them about. Dungeons. "Why couldn't we have a dragon down here? I heard there was a sphinx in the castle recently." Courtesy of Aunt Hady's kids telling them about it. "Besides, I don't think Hufflepuff has a badger in their common room, or Gryffindor having a lion, or Ravenclaw having a real eagle..." Plus, why shouldn't they get to have a magical creature as their mascot. She absolutely was all for them getting to be the dragon house.

"Course I have slippers", she added, as Mysaria woke up and joined her at the end of her bed. On her back, actually, which was okay.

Mia sunk a little, her wild expression of pure passion fading. Aside from the shared enthusiasm about dragons - which she totally got - she felt like Sophia was the only one who thought the house re-naming was as important of a cause as she did, and Mia appreciated her elaboration and consideration of other famous Slytherins in the past. "We'll make a list," she told Soph seriously, already wondering when she would have a free period this week to go do some research in the library.

As the dialogue continued about cats, dragons, and the weather, Mia shifted off her knees to get up and walked around to open her trunk. Inside, she shifted some things around, tossing the sleepwear packed on top onto her bed, and dug around for her own slippers to confirm she had brought them, but came up with her two-way mirror. She'd told her parents she would call to let them know she was settled in and give them the news about where she was sorted. She wondered if they would be disappointed - or not surprised in the least that she ended up in Slytherin. She knew they'd be excited and maybe a little relieved that Soph, Giselle, and Phoebe were all here with her, and maybe her friends would want to say hi to them. She could introduce them to Norah and Maisey, too.

She somewhat reluctantly set the mirror back down atop some clothes, deciding she would come back to it before they settled down for bed, and instead pulled out her purple slippers that matched her pyjamas. "Got 'em," she confirmed for herself.

"A sphinx?" Mia had perked up. Not much one for reading the newspaper, she had missed that. "Really? Where? Why?" And how?
