Default Welcome to Hogsmeade! - READ FIRST

Welcome to Hogsmeade! This picturesque little village, founded by Hengist of Woodcraft during medieval times, is the only all-wizarding village in Britain. Even famous for several reasons (such as the 1612 goblin rebellions), it is perhaps most known for its specialty shops and pubs and other magical venues. During the winter months, Hogsmeade is exceptionally glamorous as the snow and enchanted candles hanging in the trees makes the place look like a Christmas card.

Because of its convenient locatation just down the road from Hogwarts, the school and the village have shared a special relationship. On select Saturdays throughout the school year, the village is bustling with students. The days of students third year and older being permitted to visit Hogsmeade are a thing of the past. Today all students are welcome to visit Hogsmeade on the weekends to shop and mingle un-chaperoned, as long as they have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian. These visits are a privilege, not a right. Students must therefore be on their best behaviour at all times, or the consequences may be severe.

The following will serve you as a guide while you make your way through the village:
Back Alley
No matter where you go in the world, there will always be one of these: a creepy back alley. The main streets of Hogsmeade are clean and cheerfully lit; however, the alleyway behind the shops is a completely different story. Dark, cold, and scattered with rubbish bins, this place isn't for the faint-hearted to explore.

Dervish and Banges
Need something magical of yours repaired or are looking to buy a remembrall or sneakoscope? Then Dervish and Banges, the small, dusky little outlet located at the end of the street is the place you need to be. Pay no attention to the squeaky floorboards, the musty smell, and the creepy feeling in your stomach.

Gladrags Wizardwear
If you have holes in your robes, forgot your dress robes at home, or just feel like you don't have enough clothes, Gladrags Wizardwear can hook you up. This shop has everything you need to make yourself look like a super star. Even the strangest novelty socks in the entire wizarding world can be bought here.

High Street
The village has one central street from which you can access Hogsmeade's most famous shops. The street officially begins at the train station and comes to an abrupt stop at a stile just past Dervish and Banges. High Street breaks off into several streets and alleyways, helping you get from shop to shop with ease.

Hog's Head
Notorious for being dingy and housing some rather shady customers, the Hog's Head has had quite a past. If you can get beyond the darkness and dirtiness of the pub, you can relish in the history of the place. Order a meal and beverage while you're here; the place surprisingly has some delicious tasting food.

Honeydukes
Any person with a major sweet tooth knows of this place. Arguably the most visited shop by students and adults alike, Honeydukes is adorned with shelves and shelves of colourful candies and sweets. It is usually pretty packed in here, so hopefully you don't mind getting up close and personal with people.

Madame Puddifoot's Tea Shop
You will either hate or love this proper British tea shop. Covered in lace and flower patterns, Madame Puddifoot's is well-known for being a classic retreat for couples who want to get a little romantic without being judged. If you aren't a fan of PDA or cooties, it is recommended that you avoid this place at all costs.

Post Office
Perhaps one of the oldest and most well-kept buildings in all of Hogsmeade, the post office is the place to go if you have an important message to send or if you want to buy someone a postcard for their birthday. Hundreds of owls are perched here, so watch your step if you don't want owl droppings on your shoes.

Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop
Being in a village not far from one of the most renowned wizarding schools in the world, business at Scrivenshaft's is fairly good -- only during the summer is the place dead quiet. Quills, parchment, and stationary of all kinds can be bought here. Make doing your homework fun by purchasing some rainbow ink.

Shrieking Shack
This abandoned house is the most haunted building in Britain. Many curious folks find themselves taking the path up the slope from the Three Broomsticks to get a proper look at the Shrieking Shack. It is advised that you do not try breaking in the place as no one knows what is lurking inside these days.

Simply Stylish Salon
Across the street from Honeydukes is a haven for those who care a great deal about their hair. Whether you are in need of a hair cut, wish to colour your hair, or need to stock up on some essential hair care products, Simply Stylish Salon is here to make you look ravishing. You'll be picture ready in no time at all.

Three Broomsticks
Even though it is often a bit crowded and often smoky, the Three Broomsticks is a popular stop in Hogsmeade. Clean and welcoming, the pub and inn offers a cosy atmosphere for social gatherings. Here you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy the warm sensation of a mug of butterbeer trickle down your throat.

Zonko's Joke Shop
Long before Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, there was Zonko's Joke Shop. As the name suggests, this place is a must-stop for all pranksters. Here you will find everything from dungbombs to nose-biting teacups -- just be sure to tell professors that you bought them elsewhere should you get caught with them.

An OOC message:

Hogsmeade is an expansion of the Hogwarts RPG and is not its own entity. Because of this, there are a few essential guidelines that you, the role-player, must be aware of before role-playing in this forum:

  • Presently, Hogsmeade will be opened for periods of four weeks in real-life time (for IC purposes, we will be calling these 'weekends'). At the discretion of the Hogwarts RPG Admin, Hogsmeade weekends will occur throughout the term.

  • Hogsmeade is open to ONLY Hogwarts characters. This includes your primary and secondary characters played on-site in the Hogwarts RPG, as well as any Hogwarts characters you play elsewhere or off-site, who are a part of the SSRPG universe and timeline. Characters played within this forum must be listed in your profile, and it should be clear when you are playing different characters by your purposeful usage of varying fonts, colours, names, etc.

  • You may not role-play students from other wizarding schools or homeschooled students in Hogsmeade, or adults visiting or living in the wizarding village in the Scottish Highlands. We have other site areas where they can be played, so please utilise those spaces. Hogsmeade is a special place for our Hogwarts characters, who should be played here primarily anyway as this is a Hogwarts RPG extension.

  • Hogsmeade shopkeepers are NPCs (non-player characters). You may role-play paying for goods and merchandise on your own without waiting for a shopkeeper to reply.

  • As always, if you have a problem with another member, please don't argue or fight with them in the threads. PM a staff member or the Hogwarts RPG Admin about your problem and allow them to deal with it.

These guidelines are subject to change without warning, so please check back here often. If you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions about this role-play expansion, please feel free to contact the Hogwarts RPG Admin by PM.

Enjoy playing your characters in Hogsmeade!
