Image Credit: Felixir Accessible from the castle via the Clock Tower, the courtyard is both a throughway, leading to the wooden bridge which spans the nearby ravine, and a popular area of the grounds in its own right.
Many students spend their free time here outside of classes, particularly during break or lunch. Between lessons, this area is usually crowded with students catching up with their friends, getting in a round of gobstones, or lingering under the pear tree while they wait to head to their next class. A covered cloister surrounds the paved courtyard, and stone benches are spaced throughout the covered area, as well as dotted around the courtyard itself. Much of the architecture is in the gothic style, from the arches to the gargoyle parapets.
In the middle of the courtyard is an ancient fountain flanked by stone eagle sculptures, their features somewhat worn away by the elements over the years. Feel free to make a wish and toss a coin into the fountain, but be aware that once it's gone, it's gone. Any attempts to retrieve it will be unsuccessful, as the coin will keep magically sinking out of reach. Do try to jump into the fountain; staff will take pains to rescue you, but they're unlikely to be very impressed.
An addition to the courtyard as of 2104 is a bronze plaque, hanging on a restored pillar, its cracks and missing pieces clearly visible to those who take a good look. Both the pillar and its commemorative feature have now been charmed to prevent theft. The plaque reads:

Keighley instinctively took the tiniest step closer to Jude out of habit. Having her big brother at her side always made her feel more secure, safe. Even if she knew that she was, having him near was always nice.
Barely had they begun talking about him, had he showed up. In all of her very fake mustache and fake glasses wearing glory. None other than Peeves himself. The way he always showed up whenever he was mentioned made Keigh think that he somehow had eyes and ears all over the place to know exactly when to show up.
The Hufflepuff nodded in agreement with her brother. "The biggest best prank anyone has ever played on anyone else before." She offered a small smile to the poltergeist because they couldn't have him getting the wrong idea now, could they?

Speak of the devil...here was the annoying little spirit himself, easy to recognize despite the crude attempt at a disguise. Tapio looked over at Javier above the heads of the students and cocked an eyebrow at him. Some of the students were already trying out their plans on Peeves, so Tapio stood waiting, his hand on the wand he carried inside his robes, to see if Peeves would take the bait. He just hoped the joke wouldn't wind up being on them. | |

Kamran, who had led a branch of the search elsewhere, checking out the great hall and rooms off the entrance hall before joining the rabble outside, stopped just within the entrance of the courtyard, eyeing the poltergeist with polite judgement. After a pause, he walked across the join this chapter of the search party, jingling all the way like the proverbial one-horse open sleigh. Kamran, grinch that he was (lack of sleep did things to a person), did not bother being coy. "Peeves. What have you done, and how will you fix it?"

Sensing his sister move closer to him, Jude automatically reached for her hand. His first instinct was to protect her from whatever chaos Peeves would throw at the group {if any}. He nodded earnestly in response to her backing him up, his brown eyes fixed on the Poltergeist. Perhaps Hernandez would also join in this? What about Devries? No? Okay. Would they like to get to the point of this little expedition instead since the group had successfully lured {sort of} Peeves out?
Ahh, there it was again! All that hubbub clearly meant Kazmi was on the way. Straight to the point the man got, which was great. The sooner they got rid of the powers, the better. | |

"Oooh, touchy touchy," Peeves-who-wasn't-Peeves-but-who-actually-was-Peeves trilled, spinning himself over to float upside down for dramatic effect. "I like the sound of pranks much better." Ickle students always understood the point of Hogwarts far better than any professorships.
But, alas, he did have some information, and he would share. But it was because HE wanted to share it! Nothing to do with His Headness barking his orders. Hmph.
"This is a magic school, isn't it? Old Peevesy was just teaching you all some extra powers. My little gift to you. But now I'm bORED again-" Definitely no Baron running interference. "-so aaaaall you need to do-" Take note: them, not him. "-to fix these charming little peculiarities, is to take my book, brew a special potion, and throw the book into it. And ta-da." It was the ONLY sure solution that he knew about, and the only way he knew to destroy the book itself. He'd tested the, uh, resilience of said book, and it had survived even his experiments, even as accomplished in destruction as he was.
"I can tell you all the potion steps, maybe, if you're very nice to me, but it's all written in the back of my book if you want to check for yourselves." Peeves grinned, and his bowtie span enthusiastically. His sly demeanour became frankly cheerful then; the kind of cheer that only delivering inconvenient news could provide. "One little snag. I tucked the book away for safe-keeping, out in the forest, and now I can't get it. The individual I left it with got ever so aggressive when she didn't like my answer to her riddle." Terrible temper.

Jude knew it! Or at least he SUSPECTED Peeves’ book had something to do with the powers they had been given. After all, the Hufflepuff had seen it chucked in the faces of his friends - not to mention the same had happened to him - and shortly afterwards, they had demonstrated the powers. It hadn’t taken much to put it all together. But it seemed the book went hand in hand with a certain potion and the said book was out in the Forbidden Forest with…
“The young sphinx from last term?” Jude blurted out in astonishment. Despite that, his face had lit up as he mentioned her; she had been quite friendly and he had happened to like her a lot. She seemed to have taken to him and the other students who had interacted with her at the Elemental Ball. Jude wondered if she would remember him. | |

Well, what luck - Peeves happened to show his face without Javier subjecting himself to a prank. That was nice - although he looked rather ridiculous with that mustache and glasses. He would have commented on it too, but he had to hold his tongue. It was important they get to the bottom of this, NOW.
Thankfully, Peeves seemed to be in an...honest? mood today, and was spilling all the information they needed without much trouble. Javier was a little skeptical - but then he mentioned the sphinx, and his eyes widened.
"Don't go bothering her! She's of no concern to you," Javier snapped at him. He turned to Jude and nodded. "It certainly sounds like her," he confirmed his suspicions. So the sphinx had this book that they needed? That was a helpful piece of information...as was the bit about potions. Lucky for them - he was literally the potions master! This was all turning out according to plan, aside from the bubbles that kept escaping his mouth every time he talked.
"So we find this book, brew the potion, and we're home free," he said with a small smile at Kamran. Truthfully, he hadn't expected much from this little hunt to find Peeves, and instead they'd gotten a wealth of information that should resolve this whole thing! Hopefully. Provided Peeves was telling the truth...

Funny thing, Kamran found himself utterly unsurprised. If anything, he supposed this was - for now at least - turning out better than he'd hoped, the fact they'd received any answers at all. Assuming, of course, that it was not simply a charming little prank.
He let out a long exhale, and looked from the poltergeist to the students, and then to his colleagues. Jingling softly the whole while, of course. "Right," he said, nodding at Javier. No doubt he had an inkling where this was going. "I, for one, want this sorted as soon as possible so..." Nobody be alarmed by the muggle horror film vibes for a moment here. "We'll split up. Professor Hernandez, why don't you go and get a head start on this potion. Peeves can help you with directions." Yes, yes, he knew what an absurd statement that was, but every wayward, troublesome, and/or chaos-driven soul in this school deserved a shot at redemption.
Even pesky little poltergeists.
Kamran looked now towards the students. "If you want to help with the potion, stick with Professor Hernandez. I'm sure he'll appreciate extra eyes on Peeves." He himself glanced towards the poltergeist only briefly before looking back at them all. "Some of your other professors and I will be heading into the Forest to get this book. If you're feeling up to it - and inclined towards good behaviour - you may join us. Otherwise, you might be better off sticking with Professor Hernandez."
Merlin, don't let him regret that. But, in this instance, several heads (and wands) were likely to be beneficial. Kamran did at least know that the Sphinx's lair was not all that difficult to reach, and that the path was unlikely to lead anyone into danger. Still. Nothing could be guaranteed in the Forest, especially with a train of students a little too eager to explore it.
"If that's all, we may as well get going now."

Jude didn’t think it was a bad thing that the sphinx had the book. In fact, he was quite relieved that it was her who was in possession of it, and rather liked the idea of her giving Peeves a difficult time. With confirmation from Hernandez and quite a bit of jingling from Kazmi, Jude silently watched the adults. He knew they needed to get that book back…
And there it was!
The Hufflepuff knew exactly where he wanted to go. He turned to Keighley. “You know it could get dangerous out in the Forest, Keigh,’’ he told her quietly. “It would be better if you helped Hernandez. Maybe you can find Olivia?” Jude honestly trusted the feisty Olivia to keep Keigh safe if a certain Poltergeist tried something; not that he didn’t believe in his sister. To Kazmi, he remarked, “I’d like to head to the Forest too, Professor.’’ | |

Keighley had gone completely silent for a bit there taking in all that was said. It really came as no surprise to her that the book Peeves had been carrying around and brandishing in people's faces all term had something to do with their powers. Why he left it in the forest with the young Sphinx from last year, well this blonde didn't know.. but that should mean that they could get it back easy enough, right? She reminded at the dance last year how the Sphinx had been quite friendly.
So what they needed was the book and to brew some sort of potion. The Badger had just about turned towards Jude to open her mouth and say that wherever he was going, so was she. But he beat her to it. Only he didn't say what she had wanted him to. Keigh stared up at him with blue eyes and a small frown. "But Jude..." Had he forgotten about how they always stuck together, that she wasn't a little girl anymore? She wasn't a troublemaker and could be trusted to stick close and not do anything silly. Yet it seemed as though he had already made up his mind telling her to go help with the potion and find Liv.
Keighley sighed quietly and turned towards Professor Hernandez. "I can help with the potion." And poltergeist sitting too.. what fun.

After zero results and no Peeves inside the school, Kennedy decided to find Javier's group to check if they had found any clues. Right he was. The poltergeist was here and spilling out all the details.
Of course was Peeves doesn’t have the book they need in order to reverse all of this. It doesn’t take a seer to have foreseen this. Trouble always followed Peeves, and unfortunately, those he meddled with. Kennedy pinched the bridge of his nose, obviously irritated. The sooner they got this over with, the better.
Considering Javier was staying within castle walls in order to brew this potion, Kennedy decided to accompany Kamran. He had a feeling curious minds would be intrigued about heading into a forbidden place. At least, he would have taken full advantage of it when he was younger.
“I’ll be heading with the Headmaster,” he declared, making sure to count how many students would be joining their party. The last thing they needed was a lost child in the Forbidden Forest.

Well, the castle search for Peeves had gone absolutely nowhere! Norman was mildly disappointed in the thus far futile search effort, though no emotion showed on his stoic face. He arrived in the courtyard seconds after Escalante to find the floating fool himself already there. He caught the tail end of the conversation… a potion to undo the powers, a book which Peeves no longer had, the Forbidden Forest, the sphinx from last term. His aquamarine eyes darted from the poltergeist to the headmaster as he quickly put two and two together.
“I’ll join the forest group,” he said, nodding to Kazmi and Escalante each in turn. The forest could be dangerous at the best of times, without the unpredictable “gifts” Peeves so charitably bestowed on staff and students alike. #sarcasm They would need as many unaffected professors as possible on this little expedition! Wand already in hand, he surveyed the groups forming, making a mental note of who was going where. The sooner they got started, the better!
Desiree was reaching the end of her tether. All this time spent searching, and still no sign of Peeves! Still no cure! Part of her wanted to give up and cry, but she soldiered on, following Professor Escalante to the courtyard. Then she saw him. She fixed Peeves with an icy glare, but her expression soon turned to contusion as she listened to the professors talking. Why in Merlin’s beard was everyone so quick to trust Peeves?! Had they forgotten he was the reason they were in this mess in the first place? For all she knew, he might be sending them on a wild goose chase!
Although she had her doubts, she was willing to try anything to stop the wombat transformations once and for all. The question was which group should she join? Her bright blue eyes darted from one group to the other. She didn’t trust Hernandez, and she trusted Peeves even less. Most of all, she didn’t trust herself around that group. The longer she had to be around Peeves, the more likely she was to lose her temper and hex him!
If her pre-transformation self had been given the choice, there was no way she would’ve set foot in the Forbidden Forest! She’d heard enough warnings from her dad to know how dangerous it was. The thought of going into there, even with several professors accompanying her, terrified her! What if she transformed? There could be acromantulas or who knows what else in there, just waiting to snack on a teddy rat! As scared as she was, she was even more afraid of turning into a hideous beast at random times for the rest of her life. So she joined Jude and the three professors.
“I’m coming too,” she said. Her voice was quiet but her face resolute. Please don't let her get eaten!

No luck with the indoor search and it was disappointing, Rajesh had to do his best to not get too disappointed lest he feel a storm coming on. He preferred trying to just keep his ‘gifts’ to a dull leak and if that meant being more upbeat about things, so be it. So when Professors Escalante and Carton ventured outside to see what the outdoors group might have found, the sixth year found himself following them to keep his hopes up. And what do you know…
Jackpot.
Then two options were put before whoever wanted to continue to help, which definitely included Raj. The sooner they took care of things, the sooner they all could HOPEFULLY get back to normal. “I can help Professor Hernandez,” he chose, moving towards the potions master. Better to go with his strong suits and potions was definitely that, especially over being brave and heading out into the Forbidden Forest even with the headmaster and other professors heading that.

So many on hand did mean Kamran was a little less twitchy about bringing any of the younger years into the forest, but, then again, it was not unheard of for all years to have lessons held out there. "Good," he nodded. "Good."
WELL. No time like the present. "On we go then." He paused to add to Javier and those flocking to his side. "We'll get this book to you just as soon as we can." With that, Kamran turned, and led the way towards the Forest.

The young Thanatos had been uncharacteristically quiet since they started their journey, silently pleased when they actually found Peeves, before then pondering where she could get a pair of glasses like that, to then feeling disenchanted that he was GIVING UP on what had clearly been a masterful prank. She supposed all good things had to come to an end eventually but she was quite attached to her rainbow powers and really was NOT looking forward to having to get rid of them. She'd been able to get away with, in some circumstances, bright and COLORFUL robes because technically... she couldn't actually help it. Once things didn't randomly change when she touched them it would be all DARK and house colors again!
Red was only fun for so long!!
Once a plan was being set and Headmaster Kazoo Kazmi was suggesting groups be formed, she was truly torn on which to go with. The Forbidden Forest and Spinx had been her and Logan's GOAL, not that they'd made it far, and now she was being allowed to go and search for her with permission. Except... maybe only kind of, because the whole 'good behavior' part was on the questionable side.
But the potions part... they were also babysitting Peeves, and she still had a million and one questions so maaaaaybe she should stay? There would probably be more opportunities for either scenario later.. she WAS only a second year! Making a quick decision, she looked at all the others before piping up, "I'll help with the potion!" and moving to stand over towards the older Hufflepuff girl who had also agreed to be on that team.

... jingle. Tapio had been focusing his attention on giving Peeves a steely glare over the heads of the gathered group and the group headed for the forest almost left without his noticing. Since he had made some expeditions into the Forest already the past two years to tend or gather various plants for class and research, he felt he would be of more use there. Besides, with so many young students milling around, the headmaster could probably use all the help he could get.

Uh. Hold on. Javier was totally on board for the potion brewing bit, of course - but babysitting Peeves? How had that suddenly become his responsibility?!
Ugh. No time to argue. They had to concentrate. The sooner they got this potion brewed, the faster they'd all be able to get rid of these powers and go back to normal. He nodded at everyone who volunteered to come help with the potion. "Let's head back to the dungeons. And that includes you," he added, looking over at Peeves.
He let out a heavy sigh - which was followed by some bubbles - and gestured for the group to follow him so they could get started.

Soon enough the forest group was leaving, including the less than subtle movements of the headmaster. It was certainly a little quieter at least. They still had Peeves with them so it wasn’t guaranteed to remain that way for long. And now it was their turn to depart to the dungeons for their potions brewing task at hand and Rajesh was quick to follow Professor Hernandez as the man lead them away from the courtyard.
Well as fast as he could move without having to worry about slipping over his own feet. His path already collecting more water on his way.
Uggg….He really needed to be cured like everyone else.

Keighley watched the Forest group as they walked away, more specifically her brother Jude. How was she meant to make sure he was safe out there too, if she was told by him to go inside? It really wasn't all that fair. Younger years were going into the forest to help and here she was being told to go help with a potion. Don't mind her for being a little sore about the situation.
Silently the blonde made her way over to the Potion group, hands in her pockets and trailed after Professor Hernandez. Each of her steps leaving behind colorful flowers as she walked. Off to the dungeons she went to do her part in helping out as best as she could.

You know, Peeves was getting the distinct impression that some of these individuals harboured ill feeling towards him, and he couldn't think why that might be. He resented the implication that he was not a most helpful and charming poltergeist all of the time, thank you vErY mUcH. *snicker*
Oh, look. Bubbles was summoning him. "Moi?" replied Peeves, a hand on his chest, distinguished gent that he was. "Well, as you asked so nicely."
He blew a giant raspberry - his favourite form of transport these days - and propelled himself backwards from the courtyard, on his merry way to be OH SO HELPFUL with this little potion. Hehehehe.
