Tucked away in a niche on the far wall of the common room is a nondescript bookcase. At first glance, it appears that all the books on the shelf are arranged in alphabetical order, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice one book out of place. The book in question is a particularly battered black volume with faded lettering along the spine. Anyone who attempts to pick it up to see where it belongs will soon find it isn’t a book at all!
Touching the black book causes the bookshelf to magically pivot, revealing a secret book nook within. The back wall is lined with shelves full of books on a wide variety of subjects. While the selection isn’t as vast as the school library, it should be enough to tide over even the most voracious bookworm. Several wooden study tables and chairs sit in the middle of the room for those needing a quiet place to do homework. If you’d prefer reading for pleasure instead of academics, there’s a cozy corner of the room stocked with pillows and blankets just for you! So find your favorite read, pull up a pillow or a chair, and get comfy!

Where did a certain Ravenclaw go when she had done enough studying for the day and wanted to get some peace and quiet? The Book Nook was the perfect destination for Lisa Nam. Wrapped with a blanket, she sat in a corner with a pillow and a book in her lap. She had been reading it before but unfortunately she had passed out due to her pulling a late night of studying. She was trying her best to balance it all- friends and school and exam prep.
However, sleep had won this afternoon and she was napping.
Phoenix was an avid reader and the Hogwarts library was more than sufficient for his voracious reading appetite. In fact, as he discovered last term, it had been beyond his wildest imagination. It was the best library he had ever seen. But the book nook in the common room was also pretty cool. It was a little more intimate and cozy, but it still had plenty of cool books. Plus he really liked to do his homework here and even play a game of chess.
Today he was just perusing the shelves for something interesting or something he hadn't read yet. The faded spine of a black book didn't really seem out of the ordinary nor did it seem particularly striking, but he couldn't quite read the title and the second year started to pull it from the shelf. But what happened next was completely unexpected.
As he pulled, the bookshelf seemed to pivot and open, revealing a hidden room behind it. "Whoa," he said lowly, surprised at the revelation. Did anyone else know about this? Why hadn't anyone told him about this secret room before? And was it just a room or did it lead somewhere? Phoenix stepped inside to investigate.

This was one of the best studying/painting/crying spots in the castle. Ash needed quiet to focus, and the book nook was perfect for that. She was perched on top of the table, making up her potions homework. She should have done it yesterday... but she had been tired... and dizzy... and everything really hurt... and she had to leave her lessons early and ask for an extension on her homework for today. Now, feeling a lot better, she was working diligently so that her teachers would know that she really had been sick and she wasn't trying to skip work. She was pausing occasionally to draw on her limbs with a marker, but that was pretty much her maximum focus setting, alright? She was doing her homework.
She glanced up as someone entered, then went back to working. Then paused again, realizing she knew the someone at least by face and name. "Hi Phoenix... I see you've discovered my favorite homework spot." Though she didn't look up, her tone was friendly. Phoenix was nice enough and deserved a greeting even if she was busy.

To say Phoenix was surprised that anyone else was inside this secret room was an understatement. That was most likely due to the fact that he was surprised that it existed at all, but also because he was so focused on what this was that he hadn't seen Ash at first, until she spoke to him directly. But true to form, he didn't show surprise on his face even if he felt it internally.
"Hi, Ash," he returned the greeting with a small smile, tentatively walking in. Not that he was hesitant about the space. In fact, he really wanted to explore it and check it out. But he also didn't want to disturb her if she was busy and it appeared that she was doing homework... even if she was on top of the table, which was curious in itself. "Has this always been here? I never saw it last year." A shame if it had existed then too and he just never knew about it, especially being in his own common room.

Ash had been here for seven years, and every single one of them had required a quiet spot to work without distraction or people or distracting people. Plus, the cozy corner was an excellent place to cry her eyes out until she fell asleep, which was something she did a lot. Of course she knew about the book nook. "It's always been here. It's kind of a special little spot though. I come here when I need to be alone." For her homework. Or crying. "I'm doing make-ups, I was really sick the other day and I don't want my teachers thinking I was faking."
