The walls in the first-floor corridor are covered in tapestries and, hung over them, are portraits of numerous witches and wizards. Whether you are trying to get to class or are just browsing around, the portraits here will try to start up a conversation with you. If you manage to get on their good side, they'll be willing to reveal secret passageways, share the latest school gossip, and more.
If you have time to spare, definitely go on a brief tangent from whatever it is you are doing. Google Stump is your man to go to if you're looking for answers about the mysteries of the castle; Beaumont Marjoribanks can tell you everything there is to know about gillyweed; and Elizabeth Burke ... well, it would be best to just avoid her for reasons that will be obvious should you strike up a discussion with her about magical blood status. There are other portraits here as well, each with their own unique personalities, and figures from other portraits happen to invade their frames from time to time.

Were there any portrait occupants who could provide her with fashionable ideas? Hmm??
Aria Mae McLeod was running on schedule. Her designs needed to be completed and two needed to be approved by Anita for the show next summer. Thank Merlin this was not the school year that held any major exams for her. Otherwise, her attention would be divided between studies and her fashion stuff. The Universe had worked well in her favour thus far.
“May it continue to work that way,’’ the Slytherin murmured as she arrived before Google Stump’s portrait. What was his speciality again? History? She wrinkled her nose. Would he babble on the history of dress throughout the years? “Hello, hello!” It was obviously the polite thing to do - greet the long dead occupants. Aria was silent after that, however. Why? Her keen gaze was busy scrutinising the outfits these painted folk wore.
Tasha walked through the first floor corridor. She had gotten an early start to her first lesson, making sure she would have time to stop and look around as her curiosity wanted. The castle was huge, confusing at times, and full of interesting things to see. She was glancing around when a portrait caught her eye. She stopped for a moment to have a closer look, standing not far from an older student. She glanced over but it was a student she did not recognise, so she went back to looking at the portraits for a moment.

Aria needed an action plan. Why? Obviously the clothing that the portraits were wearing were SUPER ancient. That wasn’t an issue for her; she could make the ugliest of clothing into something gorgeous and fashionable. The idea came to her to select a few portraits whose outfits she liked. From there, she would turn these horribly outdated outfits into something that would have everyone clamouring to wear! Aria could picture her future yet again… she would be one of the most famous clothing designers. Yes. It would be a glamorous life for her!
As she selected the sharpest and most pointy pencil from the set she carried with her, the sixth year happened to notice an ickle a short distance away from her. “Hi, there! Find a portrait you’re interested in?” Having found the pencil she wanted, Aria began a quick and rough sketch of a doublet.
UGH.
Did people know that doublets were an absolute crime against fashion???

Tasha looked over when the older girl addressed her. "I can't remember the name, but I recognise this portrait from one of my mum's books. I might come back after class to ask about the gillyweed." She said, unable to hide her love of plants. "Are you an artist?" She asked, noticing how the older girl sketched.

This might be just a rough sketch but Aria did her best to get every detail of the doublet to perfection. She had perfected drawing pieces of clothing so well that this didn’t take her very long, and soon enough the Slytherin was moving onto another type. While she worked, she chatted up the younger student.
Multitasking…
Aria had mastered that.
“Gillyweed?’’ she queried with interest. “Do you mean the portrait of Beaumont Marjoribanks? Or Elladora Ketteridge, dear?” She hadn’t lifted her eyes from her work hence the questions. How did the Slytherin know those names? Why, studying for OWLs last year, of course! “Not quite. I’m an aspiring clothing designer. Knowing how to sketch comes in handy for creating my own pieces before I actually get around to creating them."

The moment Tasha heard the name, it sparked her memory. "Beaumont Majoribanks." She replied. "I like learning about plants and animals." She added. She listened to what the older Slytherin told her, finding it quite interesting. "What sort of clothing do you design?" She asked curiously. Should she offer to model some of the designs? Would that be out of line? She would just see how the conversation went for the moment.

Ah!
This little one just might grow up to be a Magizoologist then? Or perhaps a Hebologist? Both maybe? It certainly was intriguing, all these career options. Having finished with her sketch, Aria headed for the girl’s direction. “You’re not a Hufflepuff, are you? I heard that they’ve got this neat garden in their Common Room. That would be a perfect place for you.” Otherwise the Greenhouses would have to do. “Got a creature and plant you like best?
“Anything!’’ Aria replied enthusiastically. She showed the girl her just completed sketch. “Currently, I’m looking for inspiration since I need to come up with ideas for a few fall-themed designs. It’s going well so far.” A little slower than she would have liked but that was fine for now. “I don’t think we’ve met? I’m Aria!’’
