At the very top of the West Tower is where all owls, whether belonging to you individually or the school, reside. As you ascend the tower and its many stairs, constant hooting can be heard and you can feel the temperature gradually dropping. Once you open the door, you can feel a draft blowing straight at you because there is no glass where the windows would be. A few owls flutter in and out of the windows as the door closes.
Stepping deeper into the owlery, hundreds of owls lining the walls in their little nooks turn their head at you. Some even swoop down from their perches to say hello in the hopes that you'll give them a few owl treats that are in a closed bag inside a drawer of an old wooden desk that was placed in the centre of the room. If you investigate the desk further, you will find spare ink, quills, and parchment should you need to write a letter on the spot if you aren't here to just check up on the owls. Pellets, old animal skeletons, belladonna berries, and owl droppings cover the floor, so watch your step.

Kinsay made her way into the owlery with a notebook and quill in hand. Everywhere else in the castle was too crowded and she just. She needed. She just needed to sit somewhere by herself to write to her sister. It was just. Everything was really hard without Phoebe.
Kins thought maybe it'd get easier over time, but it felt even harder now, as a seventh year, than it had during her very first term without Phoebe by her side. She hated it. She hated being at Hogwarts while her sister was far away and out of reach. Fi would know how to quiet her lousy heart. Fi knew everything.
So um. So um yeah.
Finding an empty spot for her perch, she pulled her knees forward, using them as a balance for her notebook as she attempted to put quill to paper. And when owls swooped down and nipped at her knuckles, begging for treats, Kinsay shooed them away. Couldn't they see she was sad and busy?

Ash was here to write a letter to someone. And she wanted to write it alone, or without any people around at least. She grabbed a few writing materials off the desk in the center and walked over to near one of the windows. That's when she noticed she wasn't alone. Kinsay James obviously had the same idea about letter writing... this annoyed Ash a little because she thought this would be a good place to write her letter. At least until she noticed how sad Kinsay looked.
...
She was pretty sure that was her owl. She really hoped Maggie wasn't breaking any of the other girl's skin with her beak or talons. Sighing, she put on her thick gloves and called for it. The large owl left Kinsay and landed on Ash. "Maggie you can't just do that to random people. Leave her alone, she doesn't have food for you." Maggie hooted, not in agreement. "Sorry Kinsay."

The Owlery was EASILY one of Solomon’s favourite places to visit so far, because he loved the creatures, and it was a place where he could bring his own owl (Noccy) to socialise. Were owls sociable creatures? This was something he must ask the CoMC professor during their next class because he absolutely HAD TO KNOW. This occasion was no different, as Solomon let Noccy fly high and he took a moment to greet some of the other owl residents before heading to the space for writing letters. He only really had his mum to send them to, and so far had sent more than he had received.
Sploop.
Solly halted and lifted his shoe to examine the bottom after stepping on SOMETHING. Yep, he had trodden in a pile of owl droppings. “Aw, man… does nobody clean this place?” He mumbled tk himself, and then just stood idly wondering of ways he could fix this problem.

Mitsuki only ever visited the Owlery out of necessity, which was the case today seeing as she clutched several letters in her hands address to various people. There was a letter to her parents with the standard updates and assurances, a small parcel to her elder sister with a smooth pebble she hand found around the lake that she then had fastened into a kind of charm, another to her brother attending Ilvermorny which contained a couple of raven feathers, one to her eldest brother to thank him for the replenishment pack he had sent when she had accidentally lost all her potion ingredients somewhere, and a couple of casual correspondences with some acquittances from the performance calligraphy team at Himitsumahou who had wished to become her pen pal during the year. Despite the number being sent off, the stack appeared quite thin seeing as she did not ever write particularly long correspondences.
She had only just entered the space when she heard the complaints of a younger student and paused a moment to observe him. It was a curious thing to ask her of all people, she supposed, while also a bit tricky too as sometimes yes meant no and no also meant no but could maybe mean yes. She often got hung up on how best to answer these and often required further elaboration otherwise confusion ensued. And yet...
"No."

Oh. Kins hadn't realized Ash was here too. She was kind of hoping to be here alone, but still, she put on a smile for the Ravenclaw. "That's okay, I think she just wanted treats." Or to eat the letter Kinsay was writing. It was one of those two things for sure though. How did Kinsay know this? She just did.
"I didn't know you have an owl." Come to think of it, Kins really didn't know a lot about Ashley at all. Probably because she had spent so long not being allowed to be friends with her. But. But thinking about that made her feel all sorts of guilty.
So. She tried not to think about it when she could avoid it.

Ash's theory was that Maggie wanted to eat Kinsay for breakfast and was working up the courage to do it. But hey, she wasn't an owl expert. Her brother always claimed that Maggie was a very sweet bird(she only clawed him once). She fed her owl some treats so that she would be slightly more pacified. "Her name is Maggie." Ash had her since first year, but she didn't expect Kinsay to know that. First year she hadn't sent any letters, second year all they weren't allowed to communicate outside and she was gone for a few months anyway. After that, Ashley and Kinsay avoided each other as much as possible. There was no time Kinsay would have seen her with her bird. (Too bad because they looked majestic together.)
"She sometimes bites people when I'm not around." Ash was glad her owl hadn't hurt Kinsay. But there was still the problem of finding a place to write her letter in peace... "I guess we had the same thought that it would be empty up here."

Solomon had heard of a few charms that could help with his predicament, but had no knowledge of how to perform them. Thankfully, the droppings were kind of hard so easily kicked of, some needing to be removed by scraping his foot across the floor. Such class.
He was rather speaking to himself than to her, but it wasn’t curious to ask her, actually, since she was a student of many years experience, whereas he was a mere first year. Did the school have a caretaker? If not, he had an uncle who would probably be interested in a job, just saying. “In all fairness, it would probably take all day to clean it.” And with the amount of owls, probably would need repeating the very next day.
“Were you needing the writing area? I was just about to sit.” What he was trying to say was: I was here first.
Although there likely was plenty of room for them both to spread out on each ends of the desk.

Looking around the place after his observation, Mitsuki found herself nodding softly in agreement. She supposed it would take at least a day, perhaps longer. Why she had heard from the man running the owl post that he and his staff cleaned the roosts once a year. She suspected it would be the same for here at Hogwarts. It was not the most engaging of conversations, but everyone had their topics they enjoyed discussing so she would not judge this first year for his.
"No." Another simple answer but this time for a much more straight forward question. The third year paused and looked down at the little stack of letters in her hand and then up and around at all the owls who were roosting or flying this way and that on their own errands. "Do you have an owl here?" It was a question asked out of necessity and to avoid any potential conflict rather than as a get-to-know-you basis.

"Hey, Maggie," Kins offered the bird a halfhearted wave as she glanced over her way. Making a mental note to avoid her the next time she was around and Ashley wasn't. If there was one thing Kinsay did not want, it was to be bitten by an owl. Um. Anyway.
She lifted her eyes again as Ashley spoke, laughing softly, though it wasn't entirely genuine. "Yeah. People aren't usually around this time of day." Kinsay only knew because she had started making a habit of hiding away and writing secret letters when her heart ached the most. But everything was fine, really. "Who are you writing to?" She found herself asking, simply to alleviate some of the awkward tension present between them. It had nothing to do with Ash, of course, but. But just. Yeah.

Ash, personally, thought that she did have something to do with the tension. If it were someone else writing in here... would they have this strange feeling that they'd both been interrupted by a stranger, or an acquaintance who they wished would leave? "Maggie says... hello back." (She absolutely didn't.) "I was writing to my..." Ex-boyfriend. Possibly ex-friend. Theodore. "I'd rather not say. That's kind of why I came in her to write it." And why she assumed Kinsay was here too. She swallowed uncomfortably, aware of the weird vibes she had failed to dissipate. "I'll leave if you need to write your letter alone too."

But it wasn't really Ash. Not really. It was everything. So when Ashley explained that she'd rather not talk about the receiver of her letter, Kins respected her. "Oh, sorry." She was getting better at letting go when it seemed appropriate so. So yeah. She wasn't going to push, see?
But when Ashley suggested reading, Kinsay felt the guilt build tenfold and quickly began to shake her head. "No, I- No. Don't do that. I can leave. I was just about to anyway." Kins quickly hopped up to her feet and tucked her things away into her bag. "It was nice chatting, Ash." ... Kind of.

"But you're not done with your letter, and I've changed my mind about writing." Kinsay had the right to stay, she was here first. Ash was second-guessing her idea of writing Theodore a letter, she'd rather go back to her dorm and paint her feelings away. But maybe Kinsay would feel better if Ash stayed? If anyone had looked especially closely, they might have noticed a certain beloved poltergeist, squatting just out of sight in one of the nooks lining the walls. It would have been an impressive feat, locating him, at least until this very moment, when the large and rather rotund owl he had been hidden behind gave a hoot of annoyance and flew off to find a new place to perch.
Now that Peeves had an unobstructed view of the owlery, he could see the students talking down below.
Perfect time to bestow yet another gift on one of those poor unfortunate souls without one yet! With that in mind, Peeves untucked his beloved book from under his arm - with difficulty, given the confined space - held it out, and shook it as though sprinkling magic onto the boy (Solomon) below.

Solomon would be wounded to have known that the girl thought his idea of an interesting conversation was this. So quick to judge a person!!! He’d much rather ask an older student about breaking curses and wandlore, but often that was not an introductory conversation starter.
“Yeah, I do,” Solomon squinted above at the mass of creatures and pointed in a few spots before finally resting on one. “There she is… I think…” Ehhhhhh, he would call her down but she looked busy with her owl companions. “Her name is…”
Suddenly feeling as if someone was watching him, Solomon completely forgot what he was about to say and looked around and behind him. He didn’t notice any mischievous poltergeists lurking in the crevices above them, nor did he notice the magic being bestowed upon him.
Anyway… back to finding his owl, Solomon lifted an arm to point and was rather SHOCKED to see his hand now resembled a shiny gauntlet. He looked down and patted his chest with a THUD. A solid suit of armour. But he wasn’t WEARING the suit of armour. He WAS the suit of armour.
“WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS GOING ON?” He yelled, taking a step forwards and almost toppling over, instead managing a wobble here and there.

Her own attention had been drawn towards the surrounding owls, perhaps her curiosity believing that she could find his owl before he revealed it to her, and briefly fixated on one owl in particular that had quite the boisterous hoot before flying off. She too saw no sign of a poltergeist (truly regrettable) and was still observing the owls as her new acquittance spoke. Which was why she missed the transformation of his limb...and also found 'What The Bloody Hell is Going on' to be a very curious choice of name for an owl. It reminded her of some of the names of the horses at the races grandpa would take them to. The longer the name, the faster the stead...he would sometimes say. Mitsuki had never seen any evidence of such a correlation, however.
"What kind of owl is Wh---" she began, seeking a bit of evidence to find the elusive owl. Her gaze drifted back to the Slytherin brunette at last, finally noticing his silvery metal transformation. Eyes widening, she stared at him while he stumbled around a bit and her hand reached into her pocket. "Curious."

"No, yeah, I don't really like it up here anyway," she offered as a way of placating the other girl. It wasn't that she didn't like the owlery, but she could think of better places to hang out while she wrote a letter so. So it wasn't even lying. "It was nice to see you though." She gifted Ash with a small smile before turning to head out.
Everything felt achey, but she was trudging along just fine, ok?
