One of the things Evan had been itching to do since Professor Applewood's scavenger hunt, was to try to draw the map of Argyllshire and the way it looked in each season. A maybe impossible feat, as he wasn't entirely positive the map even showed summer while school was in session but... he could get autumn, winter, spring and night at least. Which was what brought him to the second floor corridor during a break between courses, as he sat himself against the wall across from the map with his sketchbook in his lap and his long limbs stretched out through the walkway.

Perhaps not the most considerate of poses, Evan was betting on his ability to spot anyone coming the way so he could move himself out of the way before creating any type of a traffic hazard. Selecting one of his pencils from his graphite collection, he began to draw out the general shapes of the land, losing himself in the task at hand.

He still was by no means an excellent artist, but he liked to try to stretch his creativity regardless. It was something to do that was not drowning himself in coursework - which he was very much not inclined to do this year.

As the new Gryffindor slowly acquainted himself with his new surroundings, Johnny had been enjoying walking around to familiarize himself with this new setting. So far he’d gotten lost a few times but every time he found himself in a cool new location. Should he ask for a tour guide? Probably. But he was not going to wait around until that occurred, so he took matters into his own hands and became his very own tour guide.

Gallivanting on the second floor Johnny found himself lost yet again. However this time he noticed another student nearby. The student seemed to focus on the map on the wall and Johnny’s curiosity got the best of him yet again. ”This is so cool!” Johnny beamed as he watched the map’s wonder. Johnathan found everything at Hogwarts very interesting thus far.

He had not been paying close enough attention, losing himself in his poor attempt at art. Thankfully the other boy had noticed him and managed to not trip over Evan, which he should have expected given the fact he was... rather obviously in the hall. Tucking his legs criss crossed under him to allow more room, Ev put down his pencil for a moment to look at the map undistracted.

"It is pretty cool isn't it? No one really knows what it's purpose was." It's not like it showed the particulars of inside the castle like the Maradauers map - which was probably a good thing. "But it's still fascinating. The look of it changes each season too. And at night." The boy was actually not someone he recognized, which came as a surprise to Evan. He'd been busy at the feast so he hadn't noticed the incoming transfers. Had he, perhaps he wouldn't have needed to ask his next question. "Are you new to Hogwarts? I don't think I've seen you around."

John curiously peeked over the young artist to glance over at the drawing. ”So it’s just decorative?” A genuine question. His grandfather Xavier and grandmother Ursula had cool magical artifacts at their manor that Johnny would find himself intrigued by, simply by being magical. ”Oh, well that makes more sense.” Sounded similar to a muggle seasonal live wallpaper on phones or like a clock of sorts.

The feast was a bit chaotic to say the least but he did meet interesting people and acquainted himself with his fellow housemates. Not many though. ”I am. I’m Johnny.” He smiled, politely offering his hand to shake. ”I don’t recall seeing you at the feast?” To be fair he had a major food coma right after and everything after stuffing his face with food is fussy in his brain.

Evan found he could only shrug in response to the question. He didn't want to give any answer as he really just... didn't know. The magic on it seemed so impressive it felt insulting to call it merely decorative and yet... what else would be the purpose? "Maybe it was to keep us feeling connected to the nearby towns and villages. Hogwarts can feel kind of... isolated sometimes." Even with the occasional trips to Hogsmeade, it was still just the students and faculty for many months together within the castle and the grounds. Not that he minded, given the most recent visitations had provided nothing but trouble.

"Nice to meet you, Johnny. Where did you transfer from?" He packed away his pencils, merely so as not to be rude whilst engaging in conversation with a peer. "I was there but the feast can be... chaotic. And I've often found unless you're specifically looking for someone, it's easy to overlook everyone else. Outside of your own house anyways. I'm over in Ravenclaw. You?"

”I feel that.” Johnny had been feeling isolated, sure he had met new people and classes just starting and all but it wasn’t really what he had expected. He had set the bar of expectations really high that lack of interest had set in. Perhaps it was part homesickness as this was the first time in his life he was far from home. ”Do you come up here often?”

Johnny smiled and nodded in response. ”Homeschool.” His grandmother had a homeschooling system which he was enrolled in until he felt comfortable transferring to Hogwarts. Moving to the side, he didn’t mean to eavesdrop on him. ”Chaotic indeed.” He chuckled. At Gryffindor table there was a bit of drama with a disgruntled student over the annoyance of another. ”I have a cousin in Slytherin who I’ve not met up with yet.” John did intend to at least speak to his cousin during the feast but with so much going on it really slipped his mind. ”Brilliant! I’m Gryffindor.” He grinned proudly! ”Are you an artist?...Not that I was purposely eavesdropping.” He asked in regards to sketches.

The agreement had Evan eyeing the boy thoughtfully, his head tilting a little to the side. He never really considering how especially isolating it could be even amongst the other students. Ev had been lucky enough to come ready made with friends, having met Solana and then Chiyo before they even had started school. But even more so than that - he'd always had a sibling. "What made you decide to come to Hogwarts? Do you have family here?" The Ravenclaw shook his head at the question, a small smile on his lips. "It's only like my second time. We had a scavenger hunt a couple terms ago." One? Two? It was sometimes hard to keep track. "I just wanted to try drawing it. I'll think I'll be here more now."

Homeschooling was always interesting to Evan, and had his parents not also been a point of contention for the past few years.. he might have requested to have been able to do that. "Did you like homeschooling?" He was always curious. Chaos was definitely a good description of the feasts, but it was perhaps the only good type of chaos that existed. Everyone was so energetic and happy to be back the first night (mainly). The last night was more about the excitement of leaving, so it just did not hold the same type of charm. Aahhh, so he DID have family. Evan briefly wondered who his cousin might have been, and if it was a name he was familiar with, but he also realized there was very few Slytherins he actually knew outside of Lees friends so... perhaps not. "Gryffindor is a good house. My older brother was one of those." And somehow a majority of the people he found himself surrounded by happened to be Gryffindor females. Though.. he didn't know when that had become a trend. "No eavesdropping, you're fine." He offered the lion a smile. "I'm not an artist though. I just.. try to draw to relax. I'm not very good at it." Like at all. "What do you like to do?"
