When you first enter the room, it may take a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim, green-tinted room. The stony walls are unusually tall for being in a dungeon. Green-hued lamps hover around the perimeter of the room. It seems a bit cold, dull, and damp, but the closer to stand next to the large fireplaces, the warmer you will get. Above the fireplaces are carvings in stone of large snake heads, so you never forget which House you belong to. Additional snake-like carvings slither their way around the fireplaces and along the walls of the room.
Leather couches and arm chairs surround the different gathering areas that are accompanied by a fireplace. Various dark wooden tables with matching wooden chairs are set up around the common room as well, providing plenty of space to do your homework, read, study, or plot your next prank.
The windows, the few that exist, seem strangely dim. With a quick glance, you may think they're just insanely dirty. But every once in a while, you might see a fish flash by... or a kelpie... or perhaps a tentacle from the Giant Squid. That's right - you may be in the dungeons, but you share the underground with the creatures of the Black Lake, too.
Make yourself at home. You may want to bring a blanket.
It's been quite sometime since Kennedy has visited this common room. To be specific, he was seventeen years old the last time he stood here. He'd been curious if it had changed or aged the way he had. No. The room still looked the same, felt the same and even smelled the same. It almost felt like he had gone back in time to his Hogwarts' days.
That thought gave the new Flying Instructor goosebumps. This wasn't time travel. It was growing up and coming back to give back to the community that helped him during one of the toughest times in his life.
Out of curiosity, the same reason he came to visit the Slytherin Common room, Kennedy approached the windows. Was the squid still alive?

SPOILER!!: It's been a while since I've had a Kennedy RP :')

Hugging her art portfolio to her chest, Aria headed out of her dorm and down into the common room. She carried her portfolio around with her so often now that it juuust might have been another limb to her. But there was constant work to be done, and as she like to say, 'Inspiration can strike at anywhere, at anytime."
Possibly she should head out to the grounds? Hmmm… or maybe she could take up residence at one of the comfy arm- hello, there! It wasn't often that one saw a professor {other than one's Head of House} here. "Hi, professor!" It was an enthusiastic greeting; Aria hadn't considered the fact that she may startle him. "Fancy seeing you here. The Quidditch Pitch isn't here though." The girl beamed at the man, happy to point out the fact just in case he had lost his marbles.

Kennedy was about to leave. The main reason he was here was to pay the common room a visit. He didn't quite expect students to approach him. When the younger Slytherin greeted him, Kennedy was only slightly surprised she had. His appearance didn't always speak friendly. He was more stern-looking. It was when he smiled that his green eyes softened.
"Ms McLeod," Kennedy greeted with a soft smile. He had made it his personal goal to learn names from the very first lesson he held. This was practice. If he got it wrong he'd feel awful. "I suppose it isn't," Kennedy responded, pretending to glance around. "I was visiting my old home, actually," he shared. Did his dark robes and stern demeanor not hint that away? The old Slytherin stereotype.

Oh you dear, sweet Professor!
If there was one thing Aria was unafraid of, it was approaching anyone who looked stern or intimidating. They were the souls that provided more of a challenge and Aria loved challenges. She couldn’t help but notice just how his face transformed and that made him so much more good looking. Professor Eye Candy aka Professor Holden would be having some competition here!
Look at that! He had already learnt her name! Aria definitely was impressed since there were hundreds and hundreds of names for him to learn. She gasped in pure delight upon the revelation about Escalante being a Slytherin. “How wonderful!” No, she hadn’t put two and two together about his robes and demeanour because Aria had learnt that appearances were very deceiving. “Is the common room as you remember it then? Or have things changed?” She wanted to know it alllll!

Kennedy took another glance around the common room and nodded slowly. "It seems to be the same as the day I left," he said, taking a step closer towards the window. "The squid would come along a greet us once in a while. Does he still do that?" Kennedy steered away from his original question, which was inquiring if the squid was still alive. From experience he's learned not to ask about the status of a creature, because if they are, well, dead, it might bring on tears.
There was no squid at the moment, though. Not that he could see, so Kennedy wasn't sure if that was a sensitive question or not. He probably should have asked his niece first. Hmm.

It was pleasing for some reason to Aria to hear that the Common Room hadn’t changed. She supposed it was because she wanted to say that during the time she had been a student at Hogwarts, she had been a part of Slytherin House’s pristine history; a part of some aspect that had been unchanged for many years. The girl giggled at the question. “He does! The first time he did that when I was a whee firstie, I got quite the shock of my life! I mean, one moment I was having a chat with a mate then the next, I caught this movement out of the corner of my eyes and there’s old Barty lurking out there, waving a few tentacles.”
Speaking of the Squid…
“You should go say hello to him sometime, Professor. He likes to bask out by the Lake in the sun on hot days. I bet he remembers you.”

Aria's story about her experience with the squid amused Kennedy. He'd been a muggle boy plucked right out of his world and plopped down into one filled with magic. So the first time the squid greeted him at that same window he'd taken a jolt of a lifetime.
"You know, I might actually go pay him a visit. Challenge that memory of his." Kennedy was intrigued now. How many students must the squid know by now? Did he still remember them all? Questions he'd save for the creature on another day. "That'll have to wait for now," he said, checking his watch. "I've another lesson to teach. Take care, Ms McLeod." He gave her a curt nod and turned on his way. The brooms weren't going to set themselves, as well as the new layout he had planned out.

Aria giggled. “I think he’d enjoy it! I also think that he has a great memory but I haven’t ever asked him questions relating to ancient history.” She cast Escalante an innocent look, hoping her words would make him laugh, or at least make him chuckle. In any case, the man didn’t look old so surely he hadn’t been at Hogwarts ages and ages ago?
Aria was disappointed. She had rather been enjoying this conversation but there was a beam from her. It was understanding that Escalante would have other important things to do. “Byeee, professor!’’ The sixth year gave the man a wave as he departed. Okay, it was time for her to focus on her sketches! It was back to work for her!
