The balcony located on the fourth floor is one of the few balconies in the castle. In an opening along the corridor, on the opposite side of the castle from the library, is where you can find this particular balcony. If you ever need a break from doing that lengthy Arithmancy homework or need a place to relax with a friend, this balcony is a great place to get a few minutes of fresh air before getting back to work again.
You will notice that you are approaching the balcony when you can feel a slight change in temperature. During the autumn and spring seasons, the breezes that come through this opening are inviting. The winter months, however, bring forth a chill, even with the nearby torches being lit. No matter the temperature, the fourth-floor balcony always provides some of the most breathtaking sights of the grounds below and mountains beyond as well as a clear view of the Whomping Willow in all of her glory. Keep note that it does get a little wet here when it rains, so make sure you conjure an umbrella.

It was a good place to hang out.
At least this was what Aria thought that fine, sunny morning. She had been up extra early in an attempt to put in some work on her portfolio before classes that Friday. She sat cross legged on the balcony’s floor. Scattered around her were leaves of paper depicting sketches of clothing - most in various stages of completion - regular pencils, coloured pencils, erasers among other bits of stationery.
To anyone else, it may look chaotic but Aria knew exactly what was what and what was up with each. At the moment? The Slytherin was busy colouring one of the autumn themed dresses she had only just completed sketching and she really wasn’t focused on anything else.
First few days in the Wizarding world. Tahani was excited and nervous. She had met a lot of nice people. This calmed her and made her a lot less anxious. After having sent a letter to her family explaining the various nuances of the wizarding world, she decided to take a stroll. That is when she had come across this beautiful balcony. She decided to chill for a while there. Maybe she would make new friends.
She was chilling by herself, that is when she came across an older girl sitting and sketching. Tahani loved sketching and was curious. 'Hi!,' she said.

Aria had paused and was surveying her coloured pencils. She had taken her time to separate colours she deemed match her autumn theme and was now trying to decide what colour would best suit the pockets. Because yes… pockets in ladies dresses were important as well as fashionable. “Vermilion?’’ came her murmur, right hand hovering over the pencil beside her right knee. “Blood red? Brown sugar?” UGH! The decisions one had to make with designing were tough, especially when working under pressure.
It took her a moment to register the fact that someone had greeted her. When she finally did, Aria’s gaze slid from the person’s feet and up to their face. She recognised the newcomer as a firstie from the Sorting Ceremony. “Hello, hello,’’ the sixth year replied somewhat distractedly. “Tell me. What colour would you want your dress pockets to be? You have a limited choice, that choice being only autumn colours.”
Oooh. Tahani was excited. She involuntarily sat down, cross legged on the floor.
'That really depends on the colour of the dress you're going for. Coffee brown on golden brown yellow would look great. You can pair it with a nice brown scarf or a purse,' Tahani offered her sartorial piece of advice. Not like she knew much. She was going on the ideas she's seen her fashion designer sister work with.

This ickle really found her question THAT interesting that she had to sit too? Oookay then! Whatever floats your boat, young one! The dark brown eyes of Aria widened in surprise and in delight. FINALLY! Someone with sense and proper knowledge of fashion! How refreshing!
Aria selected from her collection of coloured pencils, each of the colours the other girl had mentioned. “Coffee brown and golden brown yellow,’’ she remarked. “Brown.’’ Her keen and sharp gaze travelled over the pencils, and in her mind, she pictured the first two colours on her sketch. “Mhmm. Coffee brown and golden brown yellow WOULD absolutely go divinely together! What are your thoughts on both the scarf and bag being brown?” The sixth year eyed the younger girl. Of course she already had her own opinion but this was a test of sorts to the newcomer.
Tahani smiled. She was happy to see her suggestion taken really well.
Tahani loved the idea. 'I think they would go amazemax together! Pair it with a pair of rugged brown leather boots and you're golden,' she said. She loved simple looks. Easy and stylish.
'My sister is a fashion designer,' she said explaining her enthusiasm. This was a common discussion at the dinner table, really.

Aria blinked.
Amazemax??
The words these young ones came up these days! But she smiled, setting aside her bewilderedness at the odd word. “Quite right you are!” Aria, too, had been thinking that both a brown scarf and bag would be the way to go. “Hang on. Let me make a note of your suggestions.” Aria found the page she used to make her notes as inspirations came and jotted down the exact advice the young had offered.
“OH? Is she based here in the UK? Chances are I would have heard of her. What’s her name? And what’s yours?’’ Also, please don’t mind her for the Slytherin was already back to paying attention to her creation. This sketch wasn’t about to fill itself in with colour, was it??
Ahh, what a joy to feel so FREE. Peeves could do this all day and he WOULD. But what could be more joyful? Presenting gifts! As the STEALTH SANTA - Now who would earn this special gift?
Peeves in his delightful invisible mode, opened a page at the sight of the two girls. But wait. Look how welcoming the older girl (Aria) was. She deserved this special gift. With a quick flip of the page, the page brandished in front of her very eyes. Enjoy.
Hehehehe.

Tahani smiled her toothy smile, glad that the older girl was taking her suggestions so seriously. They weren't even that good, but she felt nice to be taken seriously.
'Oh she's started her own brand called Panache now. They're up and coming, they have a bunch of stores in London and India,' she said. Her sister was doing really well for herself.

Um…
WHY was a book being shoved in her face?? That too by something invisible?? Raising her gaze from the page, she stared around. “Peeves! You can take yourself and your book away from here!’’ Who else would it have been if not Peeves? No one else, living or not, would do silliness such as that! Aria sat there, squinting around as though she would eventually find her culprit. But there seemed to be nothing else happening and she shrugged.
“That poltergeist,’’ she said with a shake of her head. Back to this little Ravenclaw and the shading of the sketch! “Panache. I will remember that! It’s an usual enough name so it’ll be easy to do so. “Are you planning on going into the fashion industry too?”
Tahani was half-amused half-scared at the poltergiest. 'Is he always like this?,' she asked, curious.
Fashion industry? She hadn't really though about it. In fact she hadn't thought at all about what she wanted to do. 'I don't know..haven't thought about it really..what do you wanna do?,' she asked. The older girl must have all of it figured out.

Aria shook her fist in the Poltergeist's direction, even after he had vanished from sight. UGH! He had broken her focus and had definitely irritated her. She lowered her hand to rearrange some of the coloured pencils which she had scattered when the book had unceremoniously been shoved in her face. “Oh, yes. Unfortunately, Peeves likes nothing more than to annoy us all. You be careful of him, okay? Only the Bloody Baron - the Slytherin House Ghost - can humble him.”
The sixth year let out a breath. Now that she had reorganised herself and the pencils, she felt in control of her life once more. “I aim to be a clothing designer. That’s why I’m working on this sketch right now. I’ve got to come up with a few pieces, two of which just might be chosen for a show at the fashion studio where I intern.” Aria picked up a regular pencil and began adjusting the collar of the dress in the sketch. “It’s fine that you aren’t sure about it as yet. There’s still plenty of time to decide!”
On a warm May afternoon, Luther was wandering around in the maze that Hogwarts corridors were. He passed through the great arch leading to the Balcony. Not that he realized where he was. His mind was somewhere far away.
Absent-mindedly leaning on the railing, Luther started watching the Grounds with a mixture of sadness and longing on his face. Closing his eyes, Luther sighed deeply as the warm May sun shone down on him.
This was Ash's balcony. Not literally- but she always came here to think and be alone. If you were looking for her, it was a great place to check- ever since she'd come to Hogwarts. She thought of it as 'her' spot. That didn't mean she always had it to herself, though.
Today, there was a kid there(she recognized his name and face from lessons). To her, he was very young. That was okay. She quietly began to set up some art supplies- many of them coming from pockets in her summer dress that seemed not to exist and in any case were only made possible by magic. She was going to paint the scenery, the same scenery that the boy... couldn't see with his eyes closed. "Excuse me, Luther," she said softly, not wanting to tap him on the shoulder in case he disliked it. "What are you looking at?" He obviously couldn't see anything around them. So she reasoned that he must be looking at something inside his head, probably something depressing. What could be there that was better than the view?
Luther didn't hear the Ravenclaw, who he was almost sure was named Ashley, approaching. He was too focused on basking in the warm spring weather. That's why he was startled slightly when he heard her speaking.
Turning around, he saw her setting up her equipment to paint, Luther assumed. "Oh, hello Ashley." said Luther waiting for a moment to see if he got the name right and then continued "I... I was just enjoying the weather." then pointing to her art supplies, "Am I blocking your subject? I didn't know you liked painting." and moved to side.
Ash tilted her head, observing him. "I see." What she didn't understand was how he looked sad- but also said he was enjoying the weather- but he also had his eyes closed so he couldn't enjoy the view...? She supposed that those weren't all mutually exclusive things. But she didn't immediately take his words at face value... to be honest, she rarely took people's words at face value. One thing about Ash was that she always read deeper meanings into things, true or not. "I didn't mean to startle you. No, you're not blocking my view. You- you needn't move from your spot." She scratched her arm, surprised that he knew her name but not that she liked painting. He must have not have seen her much outside of class, because painting was one of her favorite hobbies and she always turned to it when she was in a bad mood(often). "I don't like painting, I love it." And that was true. "I love it more than most things."
A brief frown marred Luther's face as he felt Ashley's doubt but as quick as it appeared, it vanished. If the talk with the Headmaster taught him anything, it was that he talked too much.
After gathering his thoughts, he spoke with a small but genuine smile on his face, "I definitely get what you mean even though the only thing I can draw is a stickman. It's music for me. Playing. Listening. Anything. What do you love about painting, by the way?" with an emphasis on the word 'love' as Ashley did.
Ash didn't miss Luther's frown, nor did she connect it to her doubt at his words in response to her question in response to his body language. That was a few too many steps for her to think about without getting lost. "I love music too," she said, smiling briefly. She had strong feelings toward most things, really. But she was a huge fan of playing music. "What instrument or instruments do you play?"
Ash's smile stuck on her face and she got a dreamy look in her eye as she spoke about art. She loved art. Painting, drawing, getting tattoos, going to museums... the list went on. "I find painting really calming because it helps me work through my feelings. And I've been painting since I was a little kid, so it's comforting. And I think it's beautiful and expressive and fun. I like to paint people the best.
The smile on Luther's face widened even further. He loved talking about music. This was the second person he had the chance to connect with over music, Luther mused internally.
"I play the piano. Also, I would love to learn how to play the electro guitar one day. What about you? Do you play anything?" asked Luther excitedly.
Then as he listened to Ashley explain her reasons, he nodded with complete understanding. "I completely agree. It's the same for me with music. It's almost like I can..." Luther paused for a moment to find the correct term for it "be the sound when I play. I don't have quite the words for that feeling." he finished.
"Oh, I have never had the chance to see a phoenix in person. Have you ever seen one?" he added as an afterthought.
