Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Quick phone post/sorry for typos/formatting! Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Desiree had just finished portioning her dishes when Professor Holden called time. Now all that was left to do was figure out what to say in her presentation. Luckily she didn't have to go first. She listened with rapt attention to Jude's presentation, applauding a little at the end. Shepherd's pie… yum! And she'd never had pwdin Eva before, but it sounded delicious! She hoped there would be enough for everyone else to sample after the judging. She'd gladly trade for a croque monsieur and a slice of opera cake!
Okay, looked like she was up next! Jude was going to be a tough act to follow, but she'd try her best. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward. "My dad is French, so I chose two French dishes to showcase that part of my heritage," she said, giving each judge a plate containing one croque monsieur and one slice of opera cake. "This is a croque monseiur, a baked sandwich made of ham, gruyere cheese, and bechamel sauce and topped with herbs and more cheese. It's one of the first dishes I learned to make. My friend Miss Tina showed me how to make it when I was really little." Was she rambling? It felt like she was! Anyway, moving on… "And the dessert is opera cake. I'm not sure why they call it that-" Maybe it was the Phantom of the Opera's favorite food? "-but it's a multi-layer almond sponge cake with coffee and chocolate filling. It takes usually takes a long time to make, so I used cooling charms to help it set." Oh, she almost forgot the most important part! "My dad loves coffee, so it's his favorite dessert!"
Concluding her presentation with a princessy curtsey, she stepped back to make way for the next person, watching the judges with anticipation.

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Karleigh was running out of time, so she made the snap decision to go ahead with yorkshire pudding. It might not exactly go with her cookies but no one said they had to, at least as far as she remembered. Trying to remember the exact measurements her mother always used, she quickly mixed together an egg, flour, and some milk and a pinch of salt. And once she located a muffin pan, she realized... she didn't have the one ingredient she would need to make yorkshire pudding. Uhh... Karleigh panicked a moment, desperately thinking about what to do, then remembered a substitute that she could use. It might not end up technically being yorkshire pudding, but they would be a kind of popover that she thought might still work out.
She cast a heating charm to the pan and, once it was really hot, added some butter to each section, then topped them all with her mixed batter. Working quickly, she slid the tray into the over and set the baking charm again. Once again, she could not quite remember the exact time, though she knew it wasn't long. She watched through the window after a few minutes and, once they were a lovely golden color, she removed the pan from the oven.
And just in time! She heard Professor Holden ask everyone to present their dishes to the judges, so Karleigh took advantage of the few minutes while the other two students presented theirs to place a warm popover and two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on each plate. While she waited her turn, she listened to the others talk about their dishes, and... well, she felt like hers were rather simple and ordinary in comparison. Even that girl who couldn't be more than a first or second year came up with some really fancy recipes.
And then it was her turn so she presented each of the judges with a plate. "I made chocolate chip cookies because they are something I bake with my mother sometimes and I've been helping her since I was little. And they just remind me of home. And alongside them on each plate is a popover. They are like yorkshire pudding, which is something else my mother makes every Sunday when I'm home, along with a roast beef dinner. One of the ingredients I needed wasn't here though... so I improvised a little and made popovers instead, which are almost the same." She at least hoped they tasted as good. And she thought it was pretty apparent why that would remind her of home, so hopefully that part was clear too.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Hope Archard Ravenclaw Fifth Year | Tapio was eating a little of everything with great relish (well, what he considered a little]. Shepherd's Pie, Croque Monsieur, Yorkshire Pudding-style puff pastry--it was all so delicious! It reminded him of those multicultural buffets they used to serve at the beginning of the year back at the Göttingen Alchemical Institute. The only problem was that he wasn't sure which dish he would pick as the winner (though he was gravitating toward Miss Marchand's French cuisine--the opera cake, particularly, showed a great degree of difficulty as well as tastiness). Hopefully his fellow judges could help him decide.
