| | Sorting Ceremony If you are a first year or a transfer student, the time has now come for you to discover in which of the Hogwarts Houses you belong. After waiting in the Entrance Hall for what seems like forever, you are invited inside to stand beside the dais at the front of the dining room. Hundreds of eyes follow you as you make your way forward. Up above, the ceiling reflects the night sky as candles float above your head. An old, mangy hat awaits on a stool.
Once all is silent, the hat bellows out its annual song, telling all there is to know about the four Houses in a brief amount of time. The Sorting Ceremony then begins with the hat being picked up and a name being called. One by one, names are said in alphabetical order by surname. One by one, your peers are claimed as a Gryffindor, a Hufflepuff, a Ravenclaw, or a Slytherin. Where will the Sorting Hat place you? That is the question everyone in the room is asking as you now sit upon the stool and the hat is placed on the top of your head. OOC: You may role-play for the Sorting Hat, but please limit yourself to one post per character.
If you are role-playing sortings for two characters, you may include both characters in the same post, or post them separately.
Always ensure there is at least one other post between each of your own (do not double-post).

Hogwarts RPG Name: Vera Brinley Thanatos Gryffindor Graduated Hogwarts RPG Name: Mandrake Beery Slytherin Fifth Year | Anashti l Brat Pack l Sally & Dr. Finklestein Much like each exciting experience throughout this process, Vera couldn't stop herself from bouncing on her feet while she waited for her turn to step up to the Sorting Hat. It was funny, in all of the moments she'd envisioned herself at Hogwarts, she hadn't known exactly which house she would belong to. Part of her wanted to be a Slytherin, merely because the mascot was her favorite creature, but the whole cunning thing didn't sound like something that was her. Cunning, to her, went hand in hand with thinking ahead. And Vera was... impulsive, in a word.
And Ravenclaw? It wasn't even a consideration. Her brother was the thinker between the pair of them, it's why she deferred planning to him and she did the acting. So no... Ravenclaw was definitely not where she would be placed.
So that left Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Did she consider herself brave? No not really, but she also didn't consider herself hard working. Perhaps she could be loyal though and... well... what had been the other stuff the hat had just said about the houses? She hadn't been paying attention, finally giving thought to where she'd be placed.
Next thing she knew, her internal inquiry was placed on hold when her name was called and it was her turn to stalk up to the sorting hat. Vera shook her hands a little bit, feeling just the tiniiiiiest hint of nerves as she realized this was where she could be separated from her comfort people, EVEN the ones she didn't get along with the best. Taking a deep breath, she squared her shoulders though and then took a seat on the stool as the hat was placed upon her head.
The head didn't even deliberate in her ear, it sat down on her head and shouted. "Better be... GRYFFINDOR."
The girl's face stretched into a wide smile as she jumped off the stool, nearly forgetting to take the hat off and having to go back a couple of steps to correct her mistake, before skipping off towards the long red table to find herself a spot to sit.

Caes felt awkward around the tiny kids, save a few other transfer students like him. What a strange process... Compared to his other school, where he just walked into a tree and came out walking with his other housemates in a forest to take the carriage to the school. Here as his sis told him, they took a boat, then were stared at by a crowd before a talking hat tells them where to sit. He stood with the taller set of students before his name was eventually called.
Walking over, he sat down with an expressionless face, as if he was bored or not aware of what is happening. Then he felt the soft inners of the hat's fabric onto his hair. Before a warm tickle found its way in his inner ear. Hmm.... interesting...
Caes gave a side-eye to no one in particular before looking upwards in the direction of the hat on him. I remember your grandfather, arrived in his sixth year just as you.. same reasons too.. But a vastly different beginning and journey.. and as for your mother..
Caes shook his head at the aforementioned M word. Ahh... I see. Well, allow me to end your suffering- SLYTHERIN
Caes reached for the hat to throw it but it was intercepted by one of the staff members as soon as he lifted his hand. Then he got up from the stool and walked over to the table. |

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Had Sable Ileana Armstrong been singing her favorite sea shanty at full volume for the entire boat trip to the castle. Absolutely, and it hadn’t entirely stopped her once she’d gotten reprimanded by a professor. Instead, she’d settled down into just humming it as she’d joined her crew and all the others who were gathered up at the front of the room. In front of the four looong tables and the one holding all the professors, including the one she’d already probably made a bad impression on. Although the small blonde didn’t really care if they didn’t appreciate sea shanties. She did, and she knew there were others who did. There just had to be, and not just her friends. First mission after Sorting was absolutely going to be finding more crewmates for her eventual pirate ship. She needed more than just Vera and Vasco for it to actually work. Everyone knew there were more than three pirates in a crew. Three pirates, a snake and a cruppy. The latter two of which she was still rather salty about having to leave behind (Vera’s snake on principle because besties stuck together)
Luckily for those around her who []weren’t[/i] her bestie and Vasco, alphabetically she hadn’t had to wait long before her name was called, and she’d strolled up to the stool in her best pirate captain impression. Still humming the shanty under her breath, as she perched on the stool and had THE HAT placed on her head. She knew about the hat. Ster and Juli had told her their stories, or more accurately she had wheedled the stories out of them.
The whisper in her head had barely interrupted her humming. Except for when the mention of eliminating Ravenclaw from the equation registered in her head. She had intelligence, but apparently not Ravenclaw intelligence. Not that she minded. That’s okay, she assured the hat before going back to humming.
The shanty had stopped again when she’d realized the hat was vacillating between Slytherin and Gryffindor, the blonde having completely missed the other house having been summarily rejected. Either one would have been okay. Her cousin had been a Slytherin, and his fiancée had been the other. Mum had been a Gryffindor too…she hadn’t known that.
A giggle had slipped out of her when the announcement happened. …GRYFFINDOR!
Sable Ileana had jumped off the stool, feeling the hat get taken off her head before she’d gotten too far away before she settled in at a spot sort of near the red table but also still close to the others. She had to support the twins, and probably Logan by default. Either way, curiosity as to if any of them would be in the same house won out over finding a seat.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amelia Yarborough Hufflepuff Seventh Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Emerald Peridot "Dot" Ainsley Gryffindor Seventh Year
x10
| HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED
Dot waited quietly at first, the anxious trepidation of finding out where she would end up being housed. Would she be a Gryffindor like Chalcedony? Or would she be a ravenclaw like Sapphy and Lio? Truly she knew there was a strong chance that she could be tossed into Ravenclaw with her eldest sibling, but there was a strong part of her that wanted to make the split as even as possible. Her name had been called.
Stalling the panic in her head as she made her way to the stool and hopped up – what house would she be? She questioned as she felt the flopsy moving hat being placed on her head. “I hope no one has lice” she murmured to herself only for the hat to tutt was that in her ear or her head because that felt rather loud and her ear was sort of hurting ... it was like someone had put the speakers right against her ear and decided to play it at max volume. “Rude, you are way too loud hatty” she hissed and reached her finger up to flick at the hat. Who cared if it was old and decrepit and likely to fall apart in any moment. She didn’t. It was rudely loud. “ah, ... another Ainsley” the hat spoke firmly its tone a little quieter than before and then the pause to the movement and the bellowed words made her ears scream. “SO LOUD” Dot snapped at the hat and glared out at the crowd. “Shhhhh child,” the hat rebuked before yelling out “GRYFFINDOR” with an almost clipped tone. Did the hat dislike her? Maybe, but she was glad to have the hat off of her head and skipped over to her new house. Where the girl from the train was housed too!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Phoenix Marchbanks Ravenclaw Fourth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Wiley Whittebrook Hufflepuff Second Year
x12 x5
| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Even if he wasn't outwardly overly-animated, Phoenix was inwardly very excited. And who wouldn't be? He was eager to see all the magic and wonders that Hogwarts held. Luckily, one of his cousins was still in attendance here and was able to show him around on the train so he didn't feel like a total newbie. But they eventually parted ways at the boats, where Phoenix had to endure the annoying of a very loud and off-key sea shanty. But even that couldn't dim his excitement.
As he was shuttled in with the rest of the students in his first year class, and a few much taller students who clearly weren't first years, Phoenix looked around at the Great Hall as he waited his turn to be sorted. His last name starting with an M meant he was about halfway in the queue of students. He could see Benjee at his table from where he was standing and he gave him a little wave. And then he turned his attention back to the students being sorted ahead of him, wondering just how the sorting hat worked. Though he was the oldest if two in his family, he did have a few cousins that had already been through the process, in addition to his parents, so he knew what to expect. It was just that the magic of the hat was so interesting and how it knew just where a person would fit best for the next seven years.
He didn't have too long to think about it before he heard his own name called out, prompting him to step up to the stool. And as the sorting hat was placed atop his head, Phoenix tried to peer up at it as he listened to its monologue, determining which house he'd spend the next seven years. Was the voice in his head or was it aloud? He wasn't quite sure but it seemed almost as if it was both at once. Interesting.
Also, he wasn't sure if he was supposed to answer it back or not. (He didn't, for the record). But it was pretty cool how it knew all about his family and his personality and.. his thoughts. Well maybe that part was kind of creepy. But before he knew it, the hat called out, "RAVENCLAW!"
Phoenix hopped off the stool as the hat was whisked off his head again and glanced around for the table of blue and bronze, the one where a smattering of applause began. And he headed off to sit with his new housemates.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Eden Tilly (630094) Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Geode "Geo" Mortensen (021f4c) Slytherin First Year | it's either adhd or wrackspurts <3 <3 lily luna's mom has got it going on Geode watched as the others shuffled, strode, skip-hopped, ect. up to the stool, the world unraveling into different timelines before her. Ainsley.
Books, late library nights, the minefield of real, intelligent conversation - would she have to fake it?
Swallowing her caution, abrasive relationships, noise (sea-shanty girl was a character she'd rather write about than share a dorm with), a tear-streaked letter thrown in the trash and rewritten, purple prose inventing evidence that she needed to transfer to another school.
A false camaraderie, a growing superiority complex, a book she'd read again out of boredom and tired of, a warmth that wasn't home to her. Hawkins.
A wanting. A grasping, a deep breath before a plunge, a divisive outcome.
The clearest choice filled her with a thrill of unease. It was an opportunity at best, a test of worthiness at realest, and proof she was too soft at worst. Because she was soft, she knew it. Romantic and dilly-dallying and forgiving.
She was not confident where she would go, and one would be wrong to say that Geode was not an elitist, that there were not possibilities she deemed less worthy. Her birthgiver had been sorted red and gold. The idea of following in those footsteps had bile rising in Geode's throat. Gryffindor would be a permanent tally-mark in her egg donor's box, a permanent strike against her Mortensenism. Marchbanks. Everything was loud and indecipherable all at once, a thick fog of noise behind the roaring of her own thoughts.
Ma had never been to Hogwarts at all; a sour expression had passed Ma's face when she'd admitted she'd never set foot on the grounds. She'd been shipped away to Durmstrang in her youth with the rest of her respectable friends. In this liminal moment, another timeline presented itself: warmer clothes, thicker accents, the discovery that she should have practiced her Norwegian more but it being okay because her Danish would mark her as not being a complete outsider. Mortensen, Geode!
It was only a few steps to the stool, but Geode had to put all of her focus into taking them. She didn't smile, yet - smiling without intent was an idiot's habit, a bad impression, especially since she was named after a rock that her whole family mispronounced, maybe anxiety did run on both sides, but she wasn't even a real Mortensen, dear Merlin what if - SLYTHERIN!
Oh. Good.
Relief swelling in her chest, Geode took a seat where she belonged.
