| | |  Entrance Hall
 Whether you are brand new to Hogwarts or have been here a while, the Entrance Hall is always a breath-taking sight to see. Always memorable are the high ceilings, the colourful portraits on the walls, and the grand marble staircase. Various torches light the large room, keeping it nice and cozy at all times of the year. Arched windows atop the staircase, featuring the four Hogwarts Founders in all of their glory, bring in natural lighting as well.
This room is the gateway to the rest of the castle; however, those parts are temporarily off-limits until Headmaster Kazmi dismisses the student body from the Start-of-Term Feast for bed. Of course, you are more than welcome to slip out of the Great Hall to use the restroom in the corridor a few doors down or take a short break from the crowded room after the speech has been given. Not much is happening out here besides a team of house-elves taking everyone's luggage to the appropriate dormitories. Don't linger out here too long; you have a feast to enjoy.

After a long visit to the toilets to blow her nose Maria sat down on the grand staircase. She was not going inside the great hall for the feast. Why should she do that when the people on the train had been mean to her? She had been picked on for her big curly black hair and height and everything, it had been horrible. Maria was also worried that the mangy old sorting hat would say something about her part giant heritage, and would refuse to sort her.
Pulling out her favourite Martin Miggs story from one of her cloak pockets Maria began to read. Maybe Martin could help her get the courage to walk inside the hall and get sorted in front of a hundred or so watching eyes?

Her blue eyes scanning the stacks of luggage, she eventually spotted a familiar cat basket and peered inside to see the little sphynx cat fast asleep. Aww, he was so cute when he slept! Well, he was cute all the time!
Satisfied that the cat was fine, she turned away. As she skipped toward the doors, she noticed a really tall girl reading on the stairs. Was she okay? Eager to make a new friend, Desiree smiled, giving the girl her most princessy wave. “Hi!” she greeted, tilting her head to get a better look at the book cover. “Is that a good book you’re reading?”

'Hi!' Maria heard the greeting, but didn't look up from her book right away. What if a professor had found her out here, would they send an owl to her dad? Would she get dragged in to get sorted? Nervously Maria looked up from the page she was reading to see a girl. Heaving a sigh of relief that it wasn't a professor, at least not yet Maria plastered on a cherry, but welcoming smile in greeting back to the other girl. "Hi! Are you new too?" Please say yes then she'd have someone to share her sorting worries with. Glancing down at the book and then up again Maria said thoughtfully "I've only read a few pages of the book yet, but it seems promising. All the other Martin Miggs books i've read have been awesome." Only now realizing that the other girl wore blueish house robes Maria added an introduction. "I'm Maria, by the way."
