Classroom 11, one of the seldom used rooms on the ground floor, has been reserved for the central hub of operations for the dance planning committee. Sound fancy? Not particularly. At the moment it's just a regular old classroom, one deemed large enough to contain all those who might be interested in helping organise the event due to take place in the spring.
It's a Wednesday afternoon, about an hour after the end of the school day. Headmaster Kazmi is waiting inside, perched on the edge of the professor's desk as he waits for everyone to arrive, occasionally glancing at his watch, stickler that he is for starting lessons, meetings, and clubs on time. Behind him, a piece of enchanted chalk doodles idly on the blackboard (mercifully silenced, so as not to assault the ears with unpleasant scratchy sounds).
Kamran greets each student and staff member to enter. "Come in, have a seat anywhere. We'll get this meeting underway soon."

OOC: This isn't a lesson, more of a casual RP, and an opportunity for your characters to have a hand in planning the upcoming well-mannered frivolities. I'll be posting to keep us moving every day or two. Everyone is welcome to join and jump in at any point! (Late arrivals are a-okay IC and OOC.)

It was only fair that Jude was at this particular event planning. Well, for himself and for his sisters, both of whom had encouraged him to go. Jude had made every attempt to get himself there and he had made it. He was pleased with himself, needless to say. At least his love for all things dance had remained intact even if he hadn’t been practicing as much recently.
“Happy that I decided to show up?” Jude asked Keigh as they entered Classroom Eleven arm in arm. Okay, he had to admit, now that they were actually here, the older Hufflepuff felt much, much better than he had in a long time. Dance related activities always had that effect on him. “Hi, Headmaster.” He offered Kazmi a small smile before leading his younger sister towards some seats.

A lot of thought had gone into the decision of how involved she’d like to be with the dance. Not because Cailyn was against the idea of the dance at all, nor that she was biased against anything that might be attached to the whole idea. Moreso, she was painfully aware of her singleness these days (although she counted herself as the number one shipper of her brother and Val) and the dance had only heightened that sense. Even so, she didn’t feel like it was a reason to dissociate with it in general, and planning might count as a distraction. Besides, OWLs were done and she hadn’t felt the need to immediately worry about NEWTs, or much of anything else. Like confusing happenings over the summer.
“Hello, Headmaster,” she greeted the man as she had entered, not far after Jude and his sister. Who had both gotten a smile from the petite sixth year as well, as she found a seat in the classroom. Time to see who else would choose to join in the planning as well. She imagined there would be quite a few.

Getting to input her opinions? Her favorite teacher(Kazmi) making an appearance? Ash was here. Early. She slipped into a seat near the front, seeming rather relaxed and peaceful today. "Hi Professor Kazmi." And hello to the piece of chalk doodling on the board. She wished she could doodle on the board. She... was focusing only on the task at hand.
Needless to say, 5 seconds later she was absent-mindedly drawing on her arms(avoiding her tattoos). But it was okay, because she wasn't being disruptive and the meeting hadn't even started yet. So.

“Come onnnnn, it’ll be fun.” She was literally leading her friend along like a puppy on a leash. Remy just wouldn’t feel right coming to something like this without an Atlas on her arm, although she had to wonder if that meant they would go to this dance together by default. Because she would totally still want to be asked, like in the movies.
Let’s just hope there wouldn’t be a plot twist where Atlas would ask someone else.
*shudders*
Remy, still with a Flamsteed attached to her, beamed as she entered the room and found them both a seat in the middle. “Good afternoon, Headmaster.” She greeted politely, as always.
“Don’t forget to smile.” She whispered to her friend. There would be nudges and pokes if he were to be grumpy.

"Yup," Keighley replied with the brightest of smiles on her face, as she gave Jude's arm that was link with her own a gentle squeeze. "This is going to be fun. I know how much you love decorating and dancing and things." A dance was much more Jude and Reagan's style than hers but she was going to go too and she was going to have an amazing time. Even if she couldn't dance the way her brother could.
"Hello, Headmaster Kazmi," the third year greeted with a wave. Hi everyone else! Cue wiggle fingers in all of their directions cause this girl was probably too friendly for her own good. Allowing Jude to lead them over to some seats, Keigh slide herself down onto one, never letting go of her brothers arm.

For the record, absolutely none of this was fun. It negative fun. It would be more fun watching paint dry or grass grow. At least with grass one could administer, or try to administer, a Gardening Charm to it and make it all go faster. This was torture to the umpth degree...and he still wasn't quite sure how it was Remy had got him here.
Save for the obvious, of course. She had a rather solid grip on him and he was not in the mood for confrontation today.
Even though...liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiterally everything about this dance gave him sweaty palms, bouts of nausea, and a developing vestiphobia with specifics to fancy dress. Remy did not receive a smile, by the way, but rather the sort of forlorn look one might expect on a cruppy who was being denied a biscuit and felt as nervous as a kneazle in a room full of rocking chairs. "...I think we need to take a closer look at how you prioritize fun..." he whispered to her as he gave the room a glance over. A glance that only served to solidify the feel that he was immaculately out of place here - maybe minus Jude since there was sort of a neutral vibe there.
Still, he made no effort to get away from his friend (he had already made his attempts back in the common room and in another corridor to no avail) and took a seat beside her...and then gave the headmaster a pleading sort of glance. Underway AND away, far far away, soon?

Planning required so much brain and effort, which Yukie wasn't entirely against as she always appreciated the fruits of one's labour, but planning for a school dance was an entirely different thing for her. There was no reason for Yukie Selina Rasting to NOT want to contribute to such an endeavour. She loved music, dancing, and people. Oh, and food too! What is a social event with it? This event was basically gonna be a fusion of almost everything she liked!
After her last class of the day and remembering they had a meeting too, Yukie hurriedly snagged a sandwich from the Great Hall before making her way to Classroom 11. She would have been here earlier, but when stomach grumbling happens, duty calls.
"Hi, headmaster!" The Hufflepuff greeted with a flashy smile, bitten sandwich in hand, and then occupied a seat closest to the headmaster. She wanted all the details, so she was here. It was a best spot for it. Maybe she should've brought sandwiches to share. That was an idea for next time, because surely there will be more dance planning meetings in the future!
Yukie also took that moment to notice that perhaps she was the youngest attendee so far, and that no one else in her year was present. At least not yet.
Not that she wasn't accustomed to the feeling of being the youngest in every room. She'd grown up with it. Yukie was obviously comfortable with it. The thought simply tickled her.

Kins liked any excuse to dress up and wiggle out of the abhorrent (so super itchy) school robes. So, naturally, she was really, really excited about the dance. It also helped that it served as a wonderful distraction from all the swirling thoughts that kept her up at night and made the beeest excuse for a shopping trip over the winter holiday. Not that she needed an excuse to go shopping, but it definitely helped.
So. So she was here and she was eager to help with decorations and set up and to make sure this dance was everything she wanted it to be for herself and for all her friends.
Except.
Where were all her friends? She paused as she walked into the classroom, looking around and seeing exactly none of them. Um. So maybe she should have confirmed with them before coming, but. But she had assumed they'd be joining the planning committee too so. So then why weren't they here?
..... Eyes wide, she turned to Headmaster Kazmi and offered him an embarrassed sort of smile. "Hello, Sir." She had been standing at the front of the room for way too long. The only thing worse than this would be to leave. Everyone already saw her and she didn't want to give people a reason to whisper so. So instead of leaving, she held tightly onto her pride and went to sit down next to Ashley Fox. "Hey, are you excited for the dance?" She hadn't realized a dance would be Ash's thing, but then again, she had spent so long trying not to be the Ravenclaw's friend that she didn't actually know Ash very well at all. Even after five years of school together.
Yikes.

Fox was here, queer, and full of unabashed cheer. This was THE most important extracurricular type of meeting he'd had this year – the beginning stages of planning for a dance were crucial. The foundations they'd inevitably set today would decide how cool or uncool the dance would be, and Fox wasn't going to miss the opportunity to have his say in things.
Kazmi got a beaming smile and sharp wave upon entering - surely he knew how exciting this was - before the Hufflepuff's attention was taken by his fellow sixth years (Cailyn, Ash, Kinsay), enthusiastically greeting each one in whichever way was historically most likely to get a smile out of each of them (i.e, a high-five, finger guns, a good-natured ruffle of their hair). He ended up sitting beside Cailyn and scooting close, an arm cozily slumped over her shoulders as he joked, "Reckon we'll even get to have this dance, considering how things always seem to go wrong around here?"
This was not usually the sort of activity Violet was interested in, but for some reason, this term she suddenly felt deeply intrigued by this big dance they were planning (it must be because she was older and more mature, she told herself, and definitely had nothing to do with new attractive exchange students). "Hi, Headmaster," she said, suddenly feeling shy around him, and everyone there. She looked around the room, hiding a smile at the way Remy was latched onto Atlas, who did not look at all happy to be there. And there was her friend, Ashley, drawing (on her arm!) and not paying attention to anything else. Violet came into the room and took a seat beside her, but didn't speak yet, because it was disruptive to have people interrupting you when you were creating.
Valentina was here with the biggest smile on her face. She’d been looking forward to the dance since the day it was announced - because obviously, it was her thing - also, she just needed an excuse to dress up and have the best time with her friends.
“Headmaster.” She greeted warmly before taking a seat, waving at some of the known faces already present.
This was... Very much not his scene. And yet, Evan found he had nothing better to do during this time and was attempting to study less so... Why not. If anything, he could offer to... Cast some spells or paint some backdrops or whatever they were going to do for decor, right? Right. And then maybe if he participated in the set up, no one would notice if he didn't show up for the dance portion. Which he was already very much planning on skipping out on, so long as the event was not mandatory.
Making his way into the room, he paused for a moment and considered turning around to leave but.. familiar faces in the crowd of gathering people kept him from doing so. "Hello, Headmaster." He offered Kazmi a quick greeting, before scanning for a spot to sit as he walked a little further in to not create a traffic jam. Jude and Keighley got small smiles, but he was trying to respect what felt like a need for space so he did not join them. Cailyn and Ash got smiles as well, before he made his way to claim an empty seat near Val. He nudged her slightly as he sat. "Not surprised to see you here. On a scale of 1-10, how excited for this dance are you?"
How had Evan managed to surround himself with dancers??

Nerina breezed into the room after stopping by the loo to check her hair. Still glossy and in place, in case anyone was wondering. And after flashing the headmaster a smile and a quick salute, she moved towards her fellow sixth years. ”Hello beautiful people.” This was going to be fun, yeah?
Speaking of beautiful people, Nerina, Ignacio was here! And, of course, he was only here because he had an inkling that the beautiful Nerina Moretti would be, and any excuse to spend time with her - his girlfriend was an activity worth undertaking. She was looking particularly pretty today, did she know, his girlfriend? Probably. She looked particularly pretty every day, actually.
With a nod to the headmaster, Ig sauntered into the room with his usual goofy grin plastered across his face and made a beeline for his girlfriend. "Hi, [i]girlfriend[i]. Other friends," he offered in greeting, even though he looked at no one but Nerina. She was his girlfriend, did people know?

SPOILER!!: pre-meeting wall of text in which very few words are said
A good number of students had soon started to arrive, and a variety of personalities amongst them. It would be good to have a range of opinions and input, a little less good if 'creative differences' became an issue. But Kamran didn't really anticipate too many problems from this bunch, though he was sure disagreements would be inevitable.
Let's see then, they had an Anders of the Hufflepuff variety - actually, make that two. An enthusiastic pair... generally speaking. The young man perhaps less so of late. And here was Cooke, a well-behaved student, one of the several well-behaved students who had managed to stay off his Mean Old Headmaster Radar™.
And Fox, of course. Kamran had suspected she might be one of those to turn up simply on the basis of her consistent involvement in school life, and was pleased to see her getting involved and finding another creative outlet - all of the above applied to Blackthorne, who joined her, though Kamran associated the Slytherin more with focus and pragmatism, both of which would be valuable in this planning business.
Doubling back to the artistically-inclined, was James just going to stand there or... oh, no, there we go. No shame in needing a quick system reboot from time to time. And, unless Kamran was sorely mistaken, Creevey over here was another of the school's not inconsiderable bunch of creative students. Good. Excellent. "Let's try not to manifest that kind of energy, Mr Creevey," Kamran interrupted, clearly amused by the boy's offhand comment, which was highly unlikely to actually ~manifest~ anything.
Atlas Flamsteed might have been a surprise appearance... were it not for the fact he was practically dragged into the classroom by Gaeltheos. Was it just Kamran, or were those two were inching towards peas-in-a-pod status? He caught that pleading look from the young man, but had no way of knowing exactly what they were for, so at the risk of ignoring an S.O.S. call he merely returned the look with a mildly amused one and left them to it.
Kamran didn't even blink at the sight of the sandwich in young Rasting's hand; this meeting being more casual than a lesson and at the end of a full school day to boot, he was quite willing to allow it. Then they had Nichols, another enthusiastic type, and a student Kamran might have been surprised not to see today, despite the fact it was still only early planning stages. Nam... was not in that same category, which made his attendance a pleasant surprise.
And then they had... Moretti. Merlin, that name took Kamran back; a Moretti had been the Healer during his last few years as a Hogwarts student. He'd spent ample time being fixed up in the Hospital Wing in those days, and was unlikely ever to forget that detail. Kamran smiled and faux-saluted back... before employing great self-restraint in keeping a straight face at Salgado-Remirez' words as he joined that group. Young love was fine and all, but woe betide anyone who brought teen drama and relationship angst to the doorstep of his very calm and peaceful school, where nothing ever went wrong.
Every student, whether they greeted him directly or not, received a brief greeting and a nod of acknowledgement from the headmaster as they all filed in and got situated. At 4pm on the dot, he pushed up from the desk to stand before them all, and called for their attention.
"Now then, let's get started. Thank you all for coming - I trust you all saw the notices in your common rooms and have some idea of what we're here for." And if not, if any of them had just... wandered in (Kamran would not have been shocked), well, they'd cotton on soon enough. Like right now. "So, this dance. We have a lot to plan, and I would like to hear your ideas."
He turned to the blackboard, where the chalk was currently in the middle of what was unmistakably an attempted caricature of... of the headmaster himself. That soon stopped when Kamran cleared his throat loudly, and it instead hovered before the board, poised to start taking notes. The cheek. Five points from Ravenchalk.
Moving on.
"Let's start with a general theme for this dance. Do we want a theme, or colour scheme, or would you prefer something less specific, like 'spring'?" Actually, that reminded him. "I've been toying with the idea of holding this dance out on the grounds, near the lake, but that is also up for discussion, so let's hear thoughts on location too." Getting a general idea of themes and aesthetics, details like location and decorations and extra features would then hopefully fall into place. Anything he overlooked was likely to be mentioned by one of the students. Teamwork, see?

Indeed Jude loved anything relating to dance. Maybe… maybe it was time for him to get back into it? His body wanted to, even if his mind wasn’t ready. Jude would see how life went and maybe he’d start practicing again just by himself as he wasn’t ready to do so with Reagan. “As long as you hang around to motivate me, Keigh.” Yes, he was still very much dependent on this baby sister of his. It was with anticipation as he drummed his fingers lightly on Keigh’s fist that rested on his arm as they waited. Jude returned Cailyn’s smile with one of his own when his fellow Hufflepuff joined the group. As did Evan. Even though Jude hadn’t mentioned that he needed space, he knew his best friend had figured that out {it kind of surprised Jude because Evan didn’t often pick up on hints}. So… now that there were so many gathered, would Kazmi be starting things soon?
The chalk was… amusing? Jude had had his eye on it and had actually managed a chuckle when he realised it was doing a drawing of Kazmi. An uncanny likeness. Well done, chalk. But soon enough the actual Headmaster was getting the show on the road. Right. So… theme. The Hufflepuff had a few but listing one was best given that there were so many students around to provide ideas. His hand that wasn’t holding Keigh went up. “A Royal theme. A dance full out with crowns, fancy clothing and all the other jazz that came along with it. For location, out on the grounds would be better. It’ll give us a lot more space to mingle and for all the materials needed for a party to be properly set up - tables for food, places to sit, the band, maybe a photobooth or two… or three.” The possibilities were endless.

Just as Kinsay James had started to lose hope, her friends came bounding in one after another. Sweet relief. That's what this was. As much as Kins was looking forward to helping with party-planning, she reaaaaally didn't want to have to do it without her friends. Especially because she was anticipating that her opinions would be so so so different from those held by the rest of the crowd. But her friends? Surely they all wanted the same thing so. So yeah. It was much better that they showed up.
Val and Evan both received a tiny smile, Fox received a playful eye-roll (did he haaave to mess her hair up every time he walked by?), and when Kinsay spotted Nerina, she puuuuuuuuuuulled the nearest desk real close so that Nerina could sit THERE.
... IG was sooo dorky, did he know? Kinsay would be sure to tell him later. But for now, he received a playful eye-roll too. He's sooooo smitten. Good for Nerina. She deserved to be worshipped. But enough on that. Kinsay's attention was soon pulled back to the front of the room (though she still wanted to chat with all her friends), when their Headmaster took center stage and kicked things off.
But first thing's first. Kinsay had a question. "When is the dance?" If he had mentioned it at the feast, um, no offense, but Kinsay hadn't really listened. The first day back was always a lot to take in and the feast left her with so little energy. So. So yeah. But, anyway, Kins was only asking because she needed to know what the weather would be like if she were to give a definitive opinion on the inside versus outside venue debate. But, initially, she did have to admit, she'd much prefer having the dance outside over doing it inside - but only because she doubted they had the budget to host it at a fancy, art museum, and she really didn't fancy having a dance in the same hall she ate all her meals in.
But if they were to have the dance near the lake... "Under the sea, might be fun, maybe." She introduced the idea to those around her without any context, following up on Jude's 'Royals' suggestion. "Or. A masquerade." Though Kinsay wasn't exactly offering up these ideas to Headmaster Kazmi, she hoped he heard her anyway.

Val grinned when Evan took a seat next to her, honestly surprised to see him. This wasn’t his scene per se but she was glad he was here anyway. She started to laugh at his question, genuinely amused. ”Why don’t you guess?” She literally couldn’t WAIT. Nerina received a bright smile. Ig, too.
“Near the lake sounds great, I think.” Having it outside is SO much better than inside. The weather would be warm and perfect too. Hopefully. Um. She wasn’t reaaaally keen on a masquerade theme but decides to keep that to herself, her mind drifting to colour schemes. Would it be a good idea to have one? Maybe.

His reaction was nothing short of what Remy was expecting, and it received a very lazy eye roll. If he really didn’t want to be here then… well, he had legs. That’s why Remy didn’t feel bad at all for dragging him here at all.
“Don’t be rude, I am way more fun than you.” No question about that. Nah, she was just teasing. She stuck out her tongue at him, in a final attempt to cheer him up. “Oh my gosh - wouldn’t it be fun to do a dance rehearsal right here, right now?” This suggestion was a quiet whisper between her and her friend at this point, as moments later, the meeting was beginning.
Her brain was overflowing with ideas. Dress codes, colours, she wasn’t too fussed about having an outdoor dance. “I wonder if it would be too cold at the lake, for the time of year?” It only meant they’d have to take jackets and ew, that was not a vibe. Was there a spell to fix something like that??
EEEEEP.
“A masquerade ball!!” She replied to Kinsay’s suggestion, her cheeks turning a little pink after interacting so excitedly. “I absolutely love that idea.” Just saying. She’d be quiet now.

Ashley looked up. Was Kinsay James asking her a question? She was! Kinsay James was sitting next to... her? "'CourseI'mExcited. I... really like dances," She explained, trying not to stumble in her speech. "I go to a lot. When my family is invited. Or when I'm invited. Which happens. Sometimes." ...this was probably the time to stop talking. She blushed a little and looked away.
Kinsay was sitting next to her. That made her very happy and a little flustered.
...There were even MORE people sitting next to her. She gave Fox a fist bump, very happy that he'd even asked first. And Violet of course, who got an enthusiastic wave.
This was probably the best moment ever. Smiling softly to herself, she turned her attention to the headmaster. "I like the idea of a water theme, somewhat like how Kinsay said. A masquerade... would be okay, I suppose." Not that she would personally love the idea of everyone hiding their face. "I like the idea of going outside because then... I don't know how to explain, but um. Outside has really good vibes." That didn't make any sense, did it? She sighed. Her ideas were probably really- no. Her ideas were fine. She had to be confident about them. "Outside would be great."
Tapio Devries was arriving a little late to the dance planning meeting, but it couldn't be helped--he'd had to untangle a first year from an overly-aggressive vine (in a greenhouse where a first year really had no business being). After a lecture and a restorative cup of tea, Tapio sent the student on their way and hurried into the castle. Ducking his head as he entered the classroom, he nodded to Headmaster Kamran, then stood quietly at the back of the room, listening to what the students had to say and ready to step in if anyone wanted help with any floral decorations or such.

Nerina was all smiles today, settling into the desk Kins had so helpfully supplied her. She liked that she got to have an opinion on this dance, especially because it had maybe been said she could be a little too opinionated on subject matter that wasn’t entirely her business. But like, that was only once or twice. This. THIS she was totally allowed to offer thoughts on and she was about to be soooo helpful. Wildly helpful. Just WAIT.
So her boyfriend was a complete dork, did he know? But it so worked for him and Nerina grinned sheepishly, nudging him with her arm. ”Hey there, boyfriend.” She was quite happy he’d made an appearance.
Ah yes, getting down to business. Nerina liked the idea of an outdoor dance. Plenty of space, great scenery, fresh air. Stars. It was romantic. As for themes. ”I was thinking fire and ice could be cool. Students pick a side and base their outfits around whichever they preferred. Oh! Or, like, 20s glamour. That could be really cool.” And she would look amazing in a 20s inspired outfit. ”A masquerade would be awesome, but I feel like that’s more an in the castle appropriate theme.” Better backdrop. She tugged a strand of Kinsay’s hair affectionately and then added, ”If we did under the sea, we could encourage blues and greens as a color scheme.”
Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict
More people had arrived and with them came more of a feeling of being left out. Sort of. Cailyn couldn’t exactly put a finger on the reason, especially since there were other students in the meeting she considered friends. Maybe it had just been the general sense that everyone was pairing up even just for the planning. Fox’s entrance had hardly been a surprise to Cailyn, although his arm going around her rather like a magnet had. She’d still leaned into him the slightest bit, just for comfort purposes, even as she’d smiled back at Evan, along with Val, Nerina and Ig.
Her head had turned toward Fox nearly at the same time the headmaster had addressed the comment, too. “Maybe the headmaster’s right and we shouldn’t give that energy out to the world,” she whispered, before turning back to the headmaster and the meeting as it had begun.
Themes, locations… “Having the dance outside might be nice if it happens once spring comes,” she said, rather in response to Kinsay’s question as to when the dance was going to happen at all. Masquerade sounded fascinating, too, until Nerina had spoken.
“Maybe we could just use the elements as a theme in general. Earth, air, fire and water. Colors associated with the concepts. It could give us the chance to literally use the environment as part of the decorations, too.” Flowers, the lake itself. Almost like a faerie dance but without the inherent danger.

Believe it or not, but Emma had absolutely planned to be on time. Hogwarts had just been very against the idea. She'd had to go all the way to the common room to change after a disastrous potions lesson, and then she'd felt absolutely famished so she'd HAD to go get food. And the staircases were having none of that, and all the shortcuts seemed to take WAY longer than usual and basically, everything had taken ages. With a sigh of relief, Emma finally burst through the door, panting, with a bowl of soup hovering in the air next to her.
The only good part was that none of the soup had spilled. That Exceeds Expectations in her Charms OWL felt so super deserved right now.
"Sorry headmaster," she mumbled towards Kazmi's feet, grabbing the bowl from the air with one hand as the other sleeved her wand and pulled a spoon from her pocket instead. She quickly headed for the gathering of sixth years, whispering a "hey" to the group at large, and sat cross legged atop a table behind them. She still had the soup to finish before she could properly take part in the discussion.
Plus, Emma didn't really care what they were talking about. She was only here to demand Hogwarts bring good, relevant performers discuss the music, and there was no way they're already discussing that yet.
