Arithmancy and the Headmaster's Office are the primary features on this arguably boring floor. Of course there are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore here, though the doors that fill the second-floor corridor, for the most part, open up to storerooms and vacant classrooms or offices. At least there are plenty of statues and portraits and a few suits of armour scattered about to make exploring a little more interesting.
Not far after stepping onto the second floor, the corridor opens up to a large, high-ceilinged foyer that branches off to the rest of the corridors on this level of the castle. One corridor containing a portrait of Bridget Wenlock will take you directly to the Arithmancy classroom; a large stone gargoyle can be seen in the distance down the middle corridor; and the other corridor will lead you toward an antechamber and, further down, the girls' bathroom. This part of the castle is not carpeted because of Moaning Myrtle's frequent habit of flooding the bathroom.
Busy, busy, busy. Though it was a different kind of busy than he had known while teaching at Hogwarts. Kamran found he was spending an awful lot of time in that new office of his, and most of that was spent reading or replying to letters, looking through files, drawing up drafts of meeting agendas. A lot of paperwork, essentially, and the occasional meeting with a student or members of staff.
But it seemed counterintuitive to spend his days stuck behind a desk, when the majority of the student population was out and about. Best they see he was around, know that he could round a corner at any moment. Because he liked to be seen accessible, yes, and definitely not as a deterrent to any chaos-making schemes.
So he was making the effort to get out and about, to stretch his legs, head outside for some air while things around the castle seemed suspiciously calm. Kamran was doing the leg-stretching thing now, heading away from the gargoyles and down the corridor, whistling a lively tune as he went, a show tune he didn't realise he knew.

Chaos-making schemes? Teenagers? Never! (Always!) In fact, Mozart would argue until the grave that there was nothing chaos-making about the students of Hogwarts. The chaos didn’t need making. It was already here. Within the walls, within the heart and embedded in its history! WHICH if you asked him (and obviously no one had today) was the BEST BEST BEST PART OF BEING HERE! He was in love with the idea of something dramatic happening to him, in love with having his own experiences to write one day when he was famous.
Faaaaaamous.
That’s what he was gonna be, you know? Like his daddy. The good kind of famous. Not the kind that stopped you being able to go buy snacks whenever you wanted or go to the park and puke after thirty minutes on the roundabout. After ticking off THREE THINGS!!!!! on his daily bingo card, (snogging teens, someone stuck on the staircase and someone having a really bad gas problem in class) Moz was on the hunt for the next thing to tick off. Pep in his step, bounce in his uhhhhh something that rhymed with bounce and then a third; Mozart Bronwyn broke into a run from one end of the corridor to the other.
HOWEVUHHHHH HE SKIDDED TO A HALT AS HE ALMOST RAN STRAIGHT INTO THE HEADMASTER!!!! Yoikes. The eleven year old narrowly missed the legs of the boss man and let out a shrieked apology. ”SoRRRRYYYY SORRY SORRY SORR—I KNOW THAT SONG!
“ They were like the same person! Ooooh ma goooodnesssss Mozzie Knox was gonna be Headmaster one day! This was HIS DESTINYYYYYYY
"Woah, steady there." Because he was not superhuman, or so the story went, Kamran's whistling had to cease in order for him to respond to what he could only describe as a tiny human tornado. At least until he could identify said tiny human tornado, that is. Bronwyn. First year Gryffindor.
The one who was well accomplished in projecting his voice. Kamran fought the urge to wince and test an ear drum, and instead gave the boy an appraising look to ensure he hadn't done himself an injury in the near-collision.
"No harm done, Mr Bronwyn," he said instead, pointedly keeping the volume level. Couldn't really fault the kid; at least he had manners, and the exuberance was refreshing. "Music lover, is that it?"

Having been taken to school before he was ready, there was still a lot of things that Aiden had never learned to do. At home his mum had done just about everything for him.
It was the weekend, and there was free time today, so Aiden could wear his favorite sneakers from home. There was only ONE problem....Aiden had never learned to tie them.
He usually just asked the other Hufflepuffs, but sometimes they came untied in the middle of the day, like now. What was he gonna do! He wasn't supposed to go around with untied shoes! What if he tripped! His mum had said once that whenever he had a problem he just had to go ask a big kid. Aiden was very small for his age so almost EVERYBODY was a big kid, but some were bigger kids than others.
Seeing a student that looked older, Aiden walked faster to catch up to them.
"Excuse me," Aiden said, reaching up and tugging gently on the girl's sleeve to get her attention. When she turned she would see a boy that seemed far too small for Hogwarts holding a teddy bear at his side. (Though Aiden's teddy bear was starting to get recognized more than Aiden himself, since he brought him to every class.)
"Um... I need help," the small boy said up at her, sliding his foot with his untied shoes forward.

Ash was not hard to catch up to. She didn't have the energy to walk very fast. Plus, she was 'eating' a bagel(she was holding a bagel and looking at it). And she didn't want to choke.
She felt a tug on her oversized sweatshirt(from Theodore) and turned around. "What do you want............" Oh, it was the teddy bear kid again. She didn't know much about him other than the part where he carried his teddy bear around. He reminded her of her seven year old brother. Small. "Is there a... oh, you want to learn how to tie and double-knot your shoelaces?" This, of course, led to many questions about why he didn't already know how to tie his shoes, and why he was bothering her to ask. But Ash didn't much care. She didn't have anything productive to do, so she just stood there waiting for a response. She secretly hoped he would let her teach him. This would be a good distraction.

Aiden looked up at the girl in surprise, then down at his shoes. Did he want to learn? Maybe a little... but it seemed so hard! He really didn't know HOW the other kids did it. He watched them sometimes but whenever he tried it himself it never worked at all. Plus at home, he'd never tied his shoes before. His mum had always done it.
There was a LOT of things the other kids seemed surprised that Aiden didn't know how to do, but Aiden couldn't believe how much the other kids COULD do. Even other ELEVEN year olds knew how to pour their own pitchers of juice and tie their shoes and everything and do LOTS of other stuff that Aiden had never done. He was just used to home when everything got done right for him.
"It's hard..." Aiden said. "I need someone to tie 'em. 'Cause I'm not supposed to go around with my shoes untied but I don't know how. Please...?"he asked, keeping his foot held forward and looking up with pleading eyes. Maybe he was a little scared. Scared that if she tried to teach him he wouldn't be able to do it.

Ash was not particularly inclined to tie the kid's shoelaces. It was the same concept as don't feed the wildlife. It wasn't good for him, plus she didn't want him to come around every time he needed his shoe tied. She didn't have the energy for that, you know. She wasn't even AROUND sometimes, not in a place he'd be able to reach her. So. "That sounds like a reason why you should learn," Ash said softly. "Because that someone is going to need to be you." She munched on her bagel tiredly. If he wanted everything done for him, he was asking the wrong girl. "I can teach you. If you want. I'll even tie one of your shoes if you tie the other one." She wouldn't make him learn, of course. He'd probably have a very easy time getting someone else to tie his shoes. She looked up from her spot on the floor. "Who are you?" In all the times she'd seen him around, she'd always just thought of him as the kid with the teddy bear. But that wasn't really something she'd call him out loud, so... name, please.

"It is...?" Aiden asked softly. "But what if I can't do it...?" He was pretty sure he couldn't. It was too hard. But well maybe if she could teach him. Maybe he could try. Maybe he could learn it...but what if he messed up? He looked up at her, unsure.
"M-me?" Aiden asked, surprised. "Um I'm Aiden. Aiden Lockwood." he said, introducing himself as he had always been taught. "I'm eleven years old," he told her. She probably could have guessed that part. Nobody ever guessed that right at home, but at school NOBODY was younger than eleven, so for the first time people got his age right, except for when they thought he had somehow got in by mistake.

Ash stared at Aiden(well, she was really staring past him at a blank spot on the wall). "Well, then you could go around without shoes-" she'd seen another first year doing that "- or you could wear velcro shoes. Or you could keep trying until you can do it. Other people won't always be there when you want them." Maybe they were dead, just like graduated. Or maybe they hated you. Or maybe they were dead. What had they been talking about? Ash took another bite of bagel and shifted her gaze to the person actually talking to her.
................
Oh! Right. Shoelaces. And... introductions, or whatever. "I'm... Ash. I'm... fifteen." She was glad it wasn't between the months of May and July, because she knew for certain that she was fifteen right now whichever way you looked at it. However you counted.
"Sit down." She was talking to him, even though she was back to staring at the wall. "I'll show you how to tie them."
