After the debacle last term with the vines invading every nook and cranny they could, Javier was a bit more diligent with the cleaning of his classroom - just to be safe. As usual, the potions classroom had everything where it was supposed to be - all jars were neatly aligned on their proper shelves, ingredients were labeled clearly, and all the desks were dusted and ready for use. Everything was perfectly normal.
Except for the fact that each desk ALSO had a ripe orange pumpkin placed upon them, waiting for the students as they arrived. Huh?!
Well, Halloween WAS over, and Javier had the perfect use for all these pumpkins that were still perfectly ripe and not yet rotted to the core. He wasn't about to let them go to waste!
Javier was waiting patiently at the front of the classroom, leaning against his desk with his arms crossed as he waited for them to file in. Come on in, take a seat and the lesson will begin shortly!
OOC: HELLO HELLO HELLO! Welcome to your potions lesson for the term! Remember that even though this is our first and only IC lesson we are actually PLAYING this term, this would NOT be the first lesson that Javier has hosted all term. They would already be familiar with him and well aware of his classroom rules - remember to brush up on those and the SSRPG rules prior to posting!

Freddie entered in the classroom early enough before the lesson could begin. The extra clean space was welcoming, not that he minded a little mess but with Potions a tidy classroom made it easier to participate.
"Hello Professor!" Freddie said cheerfully. He was coming off the Haloween High still from all the fun that took place. But now there were pumpkins on each desk. Taking a seat he couldn't help but poke at the one at his desk. It seemed alright to him.

Regrettably, Kinsay was not faring well this morning. It was a whole thing. She had been more careful this time, having learnt her lesson the hard way, but still. Why would anyone in their right mind hold a 9:00 AM lesson the day after Halloween!?! It was inhumane.
Kinsay made sure to say all of this with a single look as she walked into the classroom. AND!!! Kinsay James was typically a morning person. So. So other people probably had it even worse. Professor Hernandez was a cruel man. Bet he didn't even feel sorry or anything!
Not wanting to stand for too long, Kins made her way over to a workstation towards the very back of the classroom. For reasons. Her headache was unbearable. Maybe she was allergic to pumpkins.

Stuart was a lot more interested in potions since chatting with Serena. He was therefore pretty excited about class. "Hello Professor." he greeted cheerfully grabbing a seat.
He then poked the pumpkin. Seemed normal.

What’s with the pumpkin?
Aria knew that they would find out soon enough so she didn’t bother hurting her pretty head with the question. She practically flounced towards Hernandez in her good mood. “Hello, hello, professor,’’ she chirped. “Looking good today.” The man usually did but a compliment could be paid today, right?
And there was the cousin!
“Freddieee!’’ Beaming, Aria took up spot at a station next to the Gryffindor’s. “I reckon Hernandez is still in the Halloween spirit.’’
Alfie walked into the classroom, energised and ready to learn, but stopped at the doorway as soon as he caught sight of the pumpkins. That was a lot of pumpkins. An almost excessive amount. Giving a confused smile to the professor as a greeting, he took a place closer to the back of the room.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Trissa had to set her potion-making kit beside her on the stone floor outside the classroom and pulled up the gold-colored bow in her hair that had slipped down earlier. Once she was satisfied, the Gryffindor picked up her belongings and entered the classroom.
Pumpkins. A lot of them. One on each desk. She briefly wondered which potion involved pumpkins "What's up,
professor ?" she flashed a smile before she walked to a seat somewhere at the back.

Let it be known that Cassidy was never a fan of morning classes. Never. Nada. She was well aware that these schedules were all beyond her control, but she was allowed to complain. Even more so about potions class today being held this early in the morning at 9 o'clock, right after Halloween. She'd rate this schedule a solid negative twenty out of ten. She was tired and she could use about twelve more hours of sleep.
"Morning, professor," the Gryffindor greeted and took a place near the back as well. Cassidy was certain the same people she saw would be seated at the back too, so there was nothing better than to be there in solidarity. Like the younger Gryffindor, Kinsay. Cassidy saw her. Exactly, she resonated with the blond's mood.
As she waited for the rest of arrive and for the class to start, Cassidy stared at the pumpkin in front of her. Halloween was over, there was no need for them anymore at this time. Neither was she in the mood to carve them or whatever.

The most he was suffering was an excessive tiredness after trying to stay awake longer than he generally allowed himself for the previous evening. Evan briefly wished he had still been allowing himself slack and that he didn't need to be here but... after previous conversations and feeling a little better, he'd been back to his normal, studious, on time self. So here he was for Potions. "Hello, Professor Hernandez." The Ravenclaw gave an incline of his head towards the Professor, before making his way past all the stations and their respective pumpkins.
Once he reached the back, he slipped into a seat and gave a nod towards Kinsay with a quiet, "Hey."
Milo had not yet developed the habit of greeting any of the professors upon entering a lesson, and it seemed unlikely he ever would. Occasionally he had something to say, but it was never 'good morning'.
It was a tendency of his to take up the closest available seat by the door, and Milo did that now. After wordlessly passing Mr Hernandez, he knelt on the nearest stool at end of the nearest workbench, crossed his feet behind him at the ankles, and regarded the pumpkin. His bag was set on the seat beside him to ward off nefarious Hufflepuffs, perhaps also saving the seat for a Mercer or a Mitsuki or another acceptable M (so far, he knew of none), but mostly securing the bubble of personal space and security. Maybe there was a spell for that.
After a moment of consideration, Milo began to nudge the pumpkin with the tips of his first two fingers, so that it inched slowly but surely towards the edge of the desk.

V glided into the room as if she were in a daze. Halloween had been fun until it wasn't. Her Tinkerbell costume was hung up, and she'd soon be packing it up for when she went home over Christmas break. It was sooooooo pretty. And she had felt just that - really pretty. But as the night had gone on, she hadn't had that much fun, and she had stuck pretty close to Benjee and...
yeah.
It had been a late, exhausting night, and she was tired. It was with droopy eyes that she dropped to a seat next to Stewie. "Morning, Stewie," she said in a croaky voice before resting her head on the desk. There was a pumpkin there, and honestly, she didn't care. She was too mentally drained. "I hope you had a good Halloween," she offered.
Alfie, Slytherin Alfie, also didn't escape her notice, but she didn't wave to him.

Delilah loved Potions class. Coming from a half-magical, half-muggle family put her in a position where she could relate best to either side of things. Judging by her current favorite subjects, she was relating more to the magical side of things. She smiled as she walked into the Potions classroom. PUMPKINS! And no, she didn't have some weird obsession with loving pumpkins. It was just that pumpkins reminded her of her birthday, which had been October 30th. She had turned the big 1-2!
Delilah spotted just the perfect pumpkin for her! She had no idea what made the pumpkin so perfect, but it just looked like the right one. As she headed toward her seat, she passed by the professor. "Hello, Professor," she said, trying not to too excited or too low-key. She was trying super hard not to be one of those annoying first years. Reaching her seat, she tossed her book bag to the side and settled in.
Violet particularly liked Potions class, but today she was in a particularly good mood, thinking of the birthday cards and messages she'd received over the past few weeks. Especially a long letter and hand made card from Einar. Sure, they'd agreed to write when she returned home last summer, but she wasn't sure he really meant it. That, and she'd been worried that the two long letters she'd sent him already had scared him off. But no, he replied to nearly everything she'd written and still seemed interested and not put off at all. Violet was beginning to think she was not so hopeless at relationships after all.
Humming to herself under her breath, she dropped into a vacant seat and stowed her gear, then noticed the pumpkin on the workbench before her. Hmm, interesting. Violet immediately occupied herself with examining every inch of the vegetable, even going so far as to sniff the top of it.

Mercer made a beeline to the open seat beside Milo and immediately tipped his pumpkin head over stem across the work station. He dropped his bag and grabbed for it, pulling the pumpkin back in until he was basically just in a perma-Halloween embrace. Hug your pumpkin lest you get lost in the patch, right?
"Hi, Miiiiilo," he gave his roommate a quiet greeting before brandishing his pumpkin at the professor. "And HI, PROFESSOR. Did you have a nice Halloween? Did you eat any pumpkin pasties or cauldron cakes? I had... fourteen. Maybe more. I stopped counting after I threw up the first time."

Sirius entered the classroom, surveying the shelves with piqued interest. Yes, his grandfather included potions in their studies, but he didn't walls full of interesting stuff and ingredients. It was intriguing to Sirius.
He took a seat towards the back of the classroom. He stared at the pumpkin perched on his desk with wonder if they were making pies by chance.
Ash was... well, she was Ash. Enough said. Was she here, showing up to class? Yeah. Was she showing up with an excited smile? No. She hardly ever did that. "Hey Professor," she said tiredly. Quietly. etc. "I was an angel for Halloween. An angel that fell out of the sky and hurt its wing. And then I had snacks." She didn't know why she said all that. She bet the professor didn't care.
She sat down with Evan and offered him a small smile. She always found a smile for him, you know. She always found a smile for her best friends, no matter what. Usually. She waved at Siri and Violet too, and then she doodled on her arms in marker as she waited for the lesson to start. Was she paying attention? Mostly. Was she enthusiastically paying attention? No, but this was the best anyone was going to get.

For once Cooper's disposition matched that of the professor, namely that it was foul and generally disgruntled. Actually, one may arguably say that Cooper looked more irritated than Professor Hernandez the moment he saw the pumpkins. Anything that reminded him of the holiday was unwelcomed and were he not feeling particularly responsible and by the book at the moment he would feign some sort of illness and ask to take a period in the hospital wing. At least then maybe he could get some sleep since he had been up all night and not slept at all. Greeting the professor with a small inclination and a murmured 'good morning' for a greeting, the seventh year made it a point not to even look at his cousins and instead positioned himself at a station next to the wall and set his things out to prepare for the lesson.
He sort of just stared at the pumpkin at his station and did hear the thud of one falling on the floor somewhere. He half hoped they would be smashing them today - he was in the mood for it.
And preemptive apologies to whoever sat beside him, he was really trying his best to outwardly present better than the hurricane inside him.

Rosa filed in to the 9am class wondering why Professor Hernandez couldn't have let them sleep longer. It was after all halloween just yeasterday. "Hello professor!" she greeted as sunnily as she could manage. Scanning off the room and who was there the badgerette chose a workstation not too far from Coopers. As she dumped her satchel on the desk she caused her pumpkin to fall to the floor with a small thud. Worried Rosa looked down at her pumpkin, it didn't seem damaged. Quickly she picked the pumpkin up and placed it carefully on her workstation again, hoping Professor Hernandez hadn't seen. Were they going to be brewing pumpkin potions today?

Kinsay seemed awfully quiet this morning - although she often was in his classes, compared to what his colleagues said about her in THEIR classrooms. Not that he minded - and he was also blissfully unaware as to why she was so tired today. Had these kids never heard of coffee? Geez.

"Many of you older students may have guessed that was what we were doing when you saw the pumpkins," he added with a grin. And if they didn't get that, it was OK! They were just going to fail their exams, is all. That was why they were doing a refresher course on it, so hopefully that didn't happen!
"Now, the effects of the potion are pretty self explanatory. Now my question to you is - in what scenarios might you want to turn your head into a pumpkin?? Creativity in your answers is encouraged," he told them with a smile. Yes, Javier Hernandez was asking for creative answers to a question. Guess he was just in a silly, goofy mood!
OOC: And with that, class has begun! You have about 30ish hours to answer this question before we move on to the next one. Seriously, think outside the box! Get as goofy as you want for your answer! We're talking about turning your heads into pumpkins, people. It ain't that serious XD If you need help at any time nudge me via PM/leave me a VM or shout for Javier in the top of your post!

Potions was the only class where Lucia always tried to sit in the front row. And if not the front, then the second. It was also the only class in which she did try and participate. Potions theory was slightly more exciting to her than the actual brewing, so she often spoke more during the initial questions. This particular lesson however... Lucia was skeptical. She could only think of one reason to turn one's head into a pumpkin, and it seemed extremely far fetched.
The fifteen year old tentatively raised her hand. "When you need to hide... in a pumpkin patch. And you'll know you need to hide in one, in advance," Lucia tried to raise her voice, but it still came out soft. It didn't help that she found herself entirely ridiculous just saying these things, but it had been the question and Lucia was a model student in potions. Really.

Indeed Aria was energetic today. Not to mention that she was eager to see where all this pumpkin business was headed. Which, she realised shortly after Hernandez got started, was in that particular potion’s direction. A pumpkin for a head! SPECTACULAR! This idea was already giving Aria crazy ideas for her clothing designs.
Ms. McLeod raised a hand, waving it around a bit to get Hernandez’s attention. “Professor!’’ she began waaay enthusiastically. “At a fashion show! If the theme happened to be pumpkins, and my models and I were walking the catwalk, then that potion would come in handy!” Hello, she saving this idea for the future. Mhmmm!
Bonnie had not been looking forward to Potions one bit. She was terrible at cooking and baking so she figured she would be rubbish at this too. It reminded her of weekends where her dad would make her bake with him. She would always end up storming off in a tantrum when she couldn’t make it work. Hello Professor,’ she muttered as she made her way towards the back of the class. Maybe she wouldn’t be noticed back here.
Why would you want to turn your head into a pumpkin? That was a strange question. Perhaps for a costume of some kind..oh or, ’Professor, may it be as a disguise of some kind? Bonnie asked, hand raised.

Jacoby was a fan of potion. Partially because he could make things go boom and partially because you could use it to aid you in doing really sneaky things. And who didn't like aiding in their sneaky sneaky activities? Well that was obvious normal people but the was beside the point. Taking his seat and looking at all the pumpkins he knew this was going to be epic.
Oh making your head a pumpkin? That could really help you out. "It would be a good use of hiding your identity when you're doing something questionable to your siblings?" it sounded kind of like a question but the first year was trying to not draw too much attention to his future activities.

Delilah had gotten used to the sudden closing of the classroom door, indicating that class was getting started and anyone coming in afterwards was officially late. Thank Merlin that had never happened to her. Not that she cared that much about being late, so to speak, but she didn't want that whole awkward moment where suddenly all eyes were on her.
Anyway...
Her eyes traveled across the board as she read the name of today's potion. A potion that turned the drinker's head into a pumpkin? BWAH HAHA. This was going to be hilarious.
She thought about the answer to the question. Some of her classmates had some pretty weird answers, but okay, whatever. Delilah had no room to talk, because she didn't have anything better to say. Nothing at all, actually. When she finally came up with something, she raised her hand. "Would it work if you were being attacked by something you couldn't look in the eye? Like a basilisk?" she offered. I mean, it would require some super speedy thinking and acting on someone's part, but if they managed to pull it off, it might work. But...could the person still see with a pumpkin as their head?
