| | |  Moving Staircases
 The most logical way for you to get from one part of the castle to the next, from down to the dungeons all the way up to the seventh floor, is making use of the staircases. Even though using them is logical, that does not mean it is going to provide the easiest route from Point A to Point B. The staircases in this tower are notorious for moving without warning whether you are walking on them or not. Hopefully luck is on your side today.
Covering the walls from the bottom of the tower to the top are hundreds of portraits. While they may be intriguing, it is important that you stay focused on the task at hand: getting from one flight of stairs to the next. If you're not paying attention, the staircase you are on will move and you'll have to maneuver your way back down or up again or wind up sinking through one of the trick steps. Under no circumstances should you be sliding down the banisters -- doing so will put your life at risk and, if you live to tell the tale, cost you two week's worth of detention.

If you use the staircase regularly, which all of you do, you might have noticed the slowness that has been the changing of the staircase. Is it just being stubborn or is something going on with it?
As you rush to morning classes and head up or down the stairs you might hope that professors won't mind your lateness or absents all together. The stairs start their usual move but stop halfway between floors.

Unfortunately, that did not help her case. Aria resorted to glaring at the staircases as though that may help. | |

She was running late and the last thing she needed was to be late to her Aunt's class. Hurrying to head towards the staircase she started to run up them but looked up to see they weren't at any floors. Thank Merlin she looked, that wouldn't have been good if she would have ran right off the stairs.
"Hey what is going on?" She yelled up seeing someone on the steps. "Did you do this?" If the girl did she needed to stop so they could get a move on. Squinting she tried to see who it was that was on the stairs.

What in Merlin's name was with all the yelling?
Okay, so. There were only a few raised voices, currently, and such a thing was not exactly out of place in a school full of kids, but even so. Often it meant something was going on that he wouldn't like, and it was usually in Kamran's best interests to go and investigate.
He emerged onto one of the landings, apart from either of the students currently making use of the staircases. Or... not, as the case may be. Kamran didn't need to ask what was going on or hurry students along to their classes, instead quickly working out for himself what the hold-up was.
Kind of hard to miss, see.
"Do either of you know how long it's been like this?" he called out to the other students, begrudgingly adding his own voice to the yelling.

At least she wasn’t going to be the only one late to something? Aria gestured to the staircases in frustration. “They’re either being slowpokes or not in the mood to work,’’ she called back to the Hufflepuff. Of course the next words did nothing to improve her mood. “I did NOT!” Aria threw her a glare. “I wouldn’t be hanging around if I did, would I?” She puffed up her cheeks then blew air out. Okay, she just needed this staircase to connect somewhere so that she could get off… if it would just moveee…
Then there was THAT voice joining and the Slytherin looked up to see the Headmaster. GOSH. This was the second time Kazmi would be catching her at when something untoward was happening to the Castle. She hoped he didn’t think she had anything to do with these happenings! Still, Aria couldn’t help but feel guilty. You know when you headed into a store, walked around then headed out without buying anything and you can’t help but feel as though the storekeepers thought you shoplifted? Well, she felt something like that.

The younger girl needed to calm down, gosh, it was just a question. Gemma thought about just leaving her and going to get something to eat. She could just explain later why she didn't go to class or say she was sick, which ever got her out of trouble would work. "Well good luck then." She really didn't have to help, but maybe she should.
Shrugging she went to turn, but before she took a step she saw the headmaster and pointed, "They were like this when I got here. Not sure why they won't move. I think they're broken, though can they break?" She felt like the magic should work no matter what and sometimes she truly wondered if the staircase was magic or alive in some way. It liked to annoy students like a living person, maybe peeves had something to do with it?

A few minutes. Kamran had no reason to disbelieve that; any longer and a larger crowd might have gathered, and perhaps someone might have come to find him if the staircases had been like this all day. Or, at least, he hoped he'd have been informed immediately were that the case.
"Perhaps just unreliable," Kamran replied, fairly confident in his assessment if this was anything like the situation with the common rooms. He was in contact with an expert on the matter, because while he and anyone who felt the urge to help could easily fix up the cracks and crumbling walls, the more complex enchantments were another matter entirely. Not something he wanted to touch, especially without an expert opinion. Actually, McLeod there had made a comment months ago that he still felt struck true, though Kamran still wanted to be certain there was nothing sinister at play. "I think the enchantments really do just need refreshing, but I should have some concrete answers for you all soon."
He leaned forward on the bannister, all the better to address the two students. "Are your common room entrances still playing up?" Kamran didn't doubt word had travelled about problems with all four entrances by now, and he knew full well that most students knew where all the other common rooms could be found. Even so, he didn't ask for any details, in favour of maintaining at least a semblance of mystery.

Maybe Aria did need to calm down but anyone who wondered if she had anything to do with this calamity deserved to be witness to her indignation. She simply shrugged in reply, her mind quickly moving back to the question of how to haul butt out of here.
Aria raised a skeptical eyebrow at Kazmi. Just unreliable? Uh huh. The Slytherin’s suspicion about the Castle was growing heavier, especially at this moment. Since Kazmi exuded that strong and confident no-nonsense aura, there was no doubt that he was looking into the situation. And could it possibly be that she’d given him the idea about the enchantments needing looking into? How COOL that would be! Aria nodded her acknowledgment. “Looking forward to the verdict, Headmaster.” Hopefully nothing was TOO wrong.
Her head automatically nodded. “The Slytherin Common Room entrance still is.” Aria threw a questioning gaze at the Hufflepuff student. Were the Barrels still as well? She recalled Jude telling her that he’d been doused with vinegar, and had heard tales about the same happening to others. “It’s frustrating!’’ Aria added to Kazmi, her voice heavily emphasising the second word. Did the man hear it? Urgency was needed to restore the entrances, especially Slytherin’s. | |

"Is there a spell that could get them moving again Headmaster? We are kind of late for class, could you maybe even write a note for us my aunt, I mean Professor Euka might not be pleased that I'm late." The fact that she was late many times to that class probably didn't help, she just hated going to that classroom, near that office, but found herself wanting to be there at the same time.
'The barrels have been horrid lately. A few of us thought we might have to sleep on the floor outside the common room one night after dinner it took so long for it to start working again. " She thought a moment, "If magic is needing refreshed could students just apparate to classes until it's fixed?" She was just at the age to start learning so that would be exciting if they could get them temporary okay for it.
