There is a sign hanging outside the DADA classroom, under the rules and near the homework board. "Attention Students! If you are interested in joining a Defense organization established by Professor Rae, please read the following:
Professor Rae will be meeting during the course of the term with students who would like to begin their Defense training. Subject matter will include a variety of spells and skill sets that are included in actual Auror training. If you are interested, please PM the professor and she will add your name to the member list. Points will be given to those members who manage to practice and master these spells and skills, and at the end of the term, those who earn enough points will be rewarded with a medal and the title of Auror-in-Training." |

The "class" list is as complete as it will be for now. You may not join as there is no chance for you to earn your five points. In addition, if your name used to be up here but is now gone, it means that you have missed the four first lessons and you've been cut. There is no way for those people to get their points. The number tells you how many lessons you've been to; the color is just for my referencing... don't worry about it.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Professor Rae opened the door to the classroom and let a few students in who had been waiting outside. "Attention students! This is the first meeting of the Young Aurors' Club, and I would like to take this chance to explain to you how it will run. First, the lessons will be taught by myself and Professor Adrie, along with other professors who have offered your help. At no time will I be putting a student in charge, although I encourage you to assist each other when the need arrives."
"In order to receive the medal at the end of the term, you must earn a total of five points. You earn the point by attending a lesson and mastering the skill or spell. Some lessons will simply have the professor presenting the lesson and then allowing you time to practice, others might be a bit more interactive. There will PROBABLY be a total of seven or eight YAC lessons, although that is subject to change depending on our schedules. That means you can only miss two before you have no chance of receiving your medal. Once you've missed three, I will remove your name from the list of members. You may still learn the lessons - in fact anyone may participate in the lessons, but you will not be considered an Auror In Training."
"If your name is not on the list, it might just mean I haven't transcibed your name from the owl you sent. Please me patient with me. I won't forget you. I will be leaving the classroom open for about two days or until participation has dropped off. You must make it YOUR responsibility to check on the YAC lessons; I will not PM you a notice or baby you by posting it in your common room. Aurors need to be smart, capable, and organized, so I will treat you in such a way."

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Our first lesson, Furture Aurors, will be on readiness. Specifically WAND readiness. All too often I see wands tucked into hair styles, book bags, pockets, and other places where they are hard to reach and impossible to find in an emergency. In fact, I had an encounter with a student who had to pat down his robes then search through his bag to finally conclude that he had left his wand on his bedside table. No Death Eater is going to wait for you to find your wand, and Voldemortist isn't going to send you back to your dorms with a hall pass. You must be vigilant, and you must be prepared."
"You may have noticed that I myself carry my wand in my braid. To be honest, I spent almost a year perfecting my technique to pull my wand instantly." She shifted her hand only slightly and it looked as if the wand appeared there by magic. "I don't recommend carrying it there, although that is a fair enough spot to put it during class or while studying. I wouldn't even do it then if you have a habit of shooting sparks from your wand accidently... hair is actually more flammable than you think," she grinned.
"Take this time to find a place you can carry your wand and a way you can pull your wand to make the best use of your time and resources. Consider all your options, and don't be afraid of trial and error. I'll be moving among you to help if needed. Think of it as the Muggle cowboys used to call it... 'the quickdraw.'"

"Is it possible to store my wand inside a loose inside jacket-like pocket, and just wear the jacket all the time?" Jill asked. "Sticking it half inside my pants like a pistol in a holster sounds.. appropriate too," Jill smiled. "The wand would be loose enough to grab, and comfortably placed so sitting feels normal. Of course, I'd have to practice placement."

*Lina starts looking down, examinging her clothes. She tries putting the wand in her robe pocket where she ususally keeps it, but now it somehow feels more unsafe, not to mention the risk of breaking it. Instead, she tries to put it up her sleeve, but it won't stay in there. She raises her hand*
Professor, would it be a good idea to make some sort of holder inside my sleeve and keep the wand there?

Jenna nodded in agreement with lina As she pulled her wand from behind her ear where she usually kept it. It some how didn't feel quickly accessible anymore.

I don't know if putting your wand in a pocket is such a good idea- particularly not your back pocket. Professor Moody warns against doing that. What if you wand suddenly ignites, you could lose part of your rear end. Of course, I haven't heard of many cases of that happening.
I generally keep my wand in the right hand pocket of my robe. The pockets are deep, so the wand is easily hidden. Plus the large opening makes it easy to remove it when necessary. Professor, is it a good idea to get into the habit of exposing one's wand in public like you do. What if you run into a muggle, won't you have a hard time explaining why you are wearing a wand in your hair? Also, do you really think we need to carry our wands at all times when we are in Hogwarts? After all, students aren't allowed to use their wands in the hallways between classes, and I hardly thing Voldemortist is going to be attacking us at school. Do you?

Aschere raised her hand. "Professor, ever since I saw that duel between the Headmaster and Mr. Jerome in last year's Yule Ball, I've practiced storing my wand up my sleeve and retrieving it quickly, " she stopped for a second as if thinking very hard, then picked up her bag and rummaged through it for her wand. Taking it out, she mumbled, "Although I don't keep it in a very convenient place right now..."

Didymus picked up her wand and placed it up her sleeve.
She let go of the sleeve rim quickly then caught her wand as it slid out.
She practised this, speeding it up every so often.

Geraldine stands next to Aschere and tries to put her wand in a more easy access place.
*she tried sticking it in her hair but she poked her head loads of time*
*she tried sticking it in her sleeve but it slipped out of the other end and made Aschere and her searching the whole room for it*
*she gave up and tuck it in her left side pocket on the inside of her robe*
*she tried pulling it out and keeping it and out of 10 tries, she managed to pull it out 10 times without dropping it and keeping it 8 times without dropping it(the other two, she couldn't find the pocket quick enough and accidentally poked herself and she let go of her wand*
*raises hand*
Professor, I think I've found mine!

I think I would like my wand up my sleeve...
*Chris starts to practice retrieving the wandby sliding it down the sleeve, and catching it....*
Professor, I have a question. Couldn't a wizard or witch put a Disillusion Charm onto the wand, but make it so that he/she would be able to see it?

*thinks for a moment*
"I think I'll have my wand inside my robe wand placement pocket which is the place where you can pull out your wand easily. Then all I need to do is pull it out."
*places wand inside the wand placement pocket and in second takes it out*

Nadia takes her wand in her hands and ponders the matter. True, she never caerd where she kept her wand, maybe on a robe pocket or something of the likes. Then her memory shows her a good ideas as to where to put such instrument. She searches in her bag and finally takes a magazine.
"Professor," Nadia says, raising her hand, "I've a good idea as to where to put our wands, though it's not a cheap way. I've heard of this special belts for wizards; they can carry a wizard's potions, magic scrolls and even a magic wand! They are especially prepared and the wand cannot backfire because it's folded. The potions are securely tied to the belt and so are the scrolls: nothing can fall because there's sticking spells and such all over it.
"Again, the only problem is that the wizard's belt is kinda expensive and not everybody has that much money, and if you are not planning on becoming an Auror or something alike the belt can be pretty useless. Here, take a look -" Nadia reaches down and gives the magazine with the advertisment to the professor, "here's everything you might wanna need to know about the belt... I'm thinking on buying one myself, if I get to be good enough in this maybe."

"Proffessor", Katie said, "isn't it the easiest to keep it in the opposite wand-hand inside pocket of the robe? I mean, if I'm right-handed, wouldn't it be the easiest for me to keep it there? But I don't think there is a specific place for a wand... each posessor should find their own place... where they feel it's safe. I think that an Auror must action not on rules, but on instinct, am I right?

I always keep my wand in my left robe pocket, as I am right handed and it makes for easier acess. I'm always using my wand, and this saves a lot of time.

Jill stood regularly, wand half tucked inside her pants along her right hip. She sat down, casually using her tricep to angle the wand forward so sitting would still feel normal as if she was wandless. After a moment, she stood back up, hand flying up her hip and grabbing her wand...
But the force of her grab wasn't strong enough, and the wand loosened down her pants. Jill shook out her pant leg, and took a deep sigh to try again.
"Grab with your palm, keep your fingers loose," Jill instructed herself in her thoughts as she fit her wand in its place. Her hand flew again to her side, palm moving up against her wand and sliding it out of her pants...
But her fingers slipped on the finishing grab as the over amount of force she used sent the wand flying a couple of feet. Jill grumbled, and retrieved it. She found her wand place, but mastering quickdraw was harder than it looked. Jill got into position again. She walked around the room casually, and upon turning, her hand swiped up her side. The wand flew out and Jill's fingers quickly tightened around the wand. It almost dropped; almost - Jill held her wand up front at the ready. She smiled in satisfaction.
"Professor, there are these special Muggle guards called cops, or agents. They conceal their weapons in their jackets, or use the element of a jacket to hide their weapon. Can the same work with Aurors?" Jill asked, hoping her question sounded clear.

Jerri seemed very excited as she rummaged through her bag. "Now I know why dad gave me this." Jerri pulled out a very strange leather bracelet like object and started attaching it to her right arm. When she was done she placed her wand into two tight loops of leather that were attached to the wrist guard. The wand when placed stayed in place along the inside of her forearm and with a quick flex of her wrist her wand was at the ready in her hand. "This is so cool. My dad gave it to me this past summer. He said it might come in handy what with all the problems at Hogwarts last term. I had no idea what he was talking about then but I do now." Jerri thought to herself 'must remember to write to dad and thank him'. As she walked about the room Jerri would every so often give a flick of her wrist (like the muggle superhero Spiderman) and her wand was instanty in her hand. The first couple of times it flew right out and onto the floor. Then Jerri realised that she needed to curl her last three fingers just so, about an inch from the palm of her hand. This allowed her to catch the wand as it came out of the holder rather than just let it fly out and hit the ground. When she look more closely at the wrist guard, that was covered nicely by the sleeve of her robe, when she flexed her wrist the two loops holding the wand got slightly bigger. Also the end of the guard pushed against the wand creating the force that caused the wand to fling out. "So cool. I should go show Jill." SHe walked over to Jill to show her the cool gift from her dad.

I made a long pocket on the side of every pair of pants I own and I store my wand in it at all times. I made my pocket on the left side, as I happen to be left handed, and I find it easier to just reach down and grab it. I've been doing it for about a year now and I'm pretty quick with it. I also have a pocket sewn into each right sleeve of my robes to store my wand... in that case it's easier to reach across.

Jenna placed her wand in the right inside pocket of her robe and tried to quickly draw her wand with her left hand. Her first attempt she couldn't quite find the pocket. then after several attempts that sent her wand sailing halfway across the room. She finally got the hang of it and was able to pull her wand in one motion rather quickly.

Jill found if she pushed her wand out with the bottom of her wrist, grabbing it tightly with the tips of her fingers, her quickdraw worked really well - if done correctly, of course, but she seemed to be getting better. Jill would quickdraw, then twirl her wand inbetween her fingers playfully in satisfaction.
"I'm getting better," she smiled at the thought, placing her wand away only to draw it again. The illusion looked like semi-realistic magic. "I'm not as fast as Professor Rae, but I'm getting there - I learn really quickly."
