Professor Phoenix was working in greenhouse three as she heard her watch buzz. She stuffed the last Mindara bulb into a pot and put it away on a shelf. Going to wash her hands in the stone basin, she checked her watch. Half past eleven. She’d better get going. She sped up to her office after locking the greenhouse behind her and got the two Norandola plants she had shown her class last lesson. She covered them with a dark veil so the would not be in touch with the moon’s light until the class was fully assembled. “Wingardium Leviosa!”
She let the plants float infront of her as she walked out of her office, locked the door and then set off for the Entrance Hall. There was nearly nobody around except a few ghosts and the caretaker. He growled at her. She supposed he was annoyed that some students were allowed to walk around after midnight and he was not to punish them for it. Or he might still be seeking revenge for some 'crimes' she had committed in her student life. She reached the front doors and stepped outside. The moon shone down on the grounds, lightening them up brightly. She stopped just before Hagrid’s Hut, softly putting down the plants that were still covered with the veil.
There were logs lying on the ground for the students to sit on as the grass was a bit damp. She checked her watch again and waited for the students to appear. |

"I wonder if the Norandolas release pollen every full moon, or if they only do so at certain times of the year. Professor, since Norandolas are very rare, and very valuable, do you collect the powder from the school's plants each cycle and store it for use? Or does the Ministry insist on collecting the dust centrally and redistributing or rationing it?"

"So its effects has no direct link to the emphatic nature of the Norandola..."
*raise hand*
"Could you be more especific as to what does the Norandola powder do in a potion? It is not much interest on what -dark- potions exactly, but the use of the Norandola powder in it: Does it powers the potion up? Does it work in potions that are involved with the, say, err, love aspect and provides a linking-power. Or maybe the scent has a power over humans, or doing a certain connection? Err... See where I am going?"

"Do you mean, what properties does the Norandola dust add to a potion, Nadia?" Aschere offered, hoping she's understood Nadia's question correctly.

Yes, we collect them for research in several areas--Potions, Herbology and Charms, as well as Divination. We never know if we might need it, so it's good to have a store. The Ministry have their own Norandola plants, and research for themselves in the Department of Mysteries. Basically, everything goes there that the wizarding world is unsure about." Norandolas are not in use for love-potions, although one could assume a connection, since they 'become' a person, somehow."
Professor Phoenix filled a bottle with a swift movement and corked it. Maybe, when they had more information on the ritual and draught of Ephemera, it would become clearer what exactly Norandola dust did to a potion.

"Sorry to be popping up with so many questions, Professor - they just keep coming today, for some reason!" Aschere apoligised sheepishly. "But, are Norandola plants used currently to study the character of a person? For analysis or psychiatry? And also, do two Norandola seeds planted by the same person at the same time and grown side-by-side in similar conditions, grow into similar-looking Norandola Plants? In which case, they could be used for identification, in a way..."

*raise hand* "My question is somewhat alike: last class when taking care of the plants on daylight it had different appearance and, I'm guessing, different properties. My question is: does the Norandola plant has another uses when NOT under the influence of full moon?"

Analysis and psychiatry on the other hand would be interested, but as the wizarding world as a whole doesn't care about it much, there is not much done there. Yes, Norandolas raised in exactly the same conditions--though it is kind of theoretical--would be exactly the same." "That would depend on what kind of plant it is, and that is why it's hard to say--and also is a mark of the Norandolas interesting being. If your Norandola looks like an Aloe Vera, which could happen, it would have those healing properties.

| “Oh, and at the moment there is a lot of research on werewolf bites. Of course, there is the Wolfsbane Potion, but what we really need is somekind of remedy to cure you totally. So that if you receive a bite, you can be cured and need never to become a werewolf. As Norandolas are as moonsensitive as werewolves, there is hope that a potion might be found soon…
"But for now: Thanks, good work, all of you!
Professor Phoenix turned back to the Norandolas. There was still dust coming from the male plants, drifting to the female ones, right into the silver crescents.
“Now, let’s have a closer look at what happens when the stars touch the crescents. Gather around the table please.”

Corking her now full bottle, Nadia edged closer to the crowd and tried spotting something going on. The male Norandola was still letting its powder travel though air and to the female Norandola's crecents, as if attracted by some spell. Nadia decided to ask later so not to spoil the moment, and she stared...

"So, this plant on the left, the one with the silver crescents, is the female plant, the one on the right, with these bubbles, is the male one. Now… just wait a moment…”
Professor Phoenix sat back down. The flowers were swinging in a light breeze that apparently came from nowhere.
Suddenly the capsules of the male plant burst open. The golden dust inside them poured out thickly, drifting lazily towards the crescents on the female plant.
“Let’s have a closer look.”
Professor Phoenix got up and pulled out a small bottle with a cork from her pocket. She held it into the dust emitting from the bubbles and filled some into the bottle. Then she stuck her finger into it and took it out again. It was covered with a thin layer of golden dust. She shook her finger and some of the dust fell off.
“Engorgio!” she said and pointed her wand at the dust.
Instead of the golden mist, there were now hundreds of little golden stars floating infront of her, measuring about 3 inches in diameter.
“Pretty, isn’t it? Now, you can just come forth and have a closer look if you like to.” riiya watches in an awe as the stars appeared...her silver blue eyes lit with exitement, happy to be a witch..happy to find such interesting things...she walks closer to get a better look...
"oh my...this is precious...absolutely precious..."
she stetches her right hand out to touch the stars, but decided to just let it float above her palm...she brought it closer to her eyes to see it.the details of this star was devine...she smiles and gently place back the star with the other.she then stepped back.

Riiya got up and took a bottle. she pulled out the cork and walked towards the male Norandola plant. she swoops the bottle from left to right in a diagonal motion, collecting the gold dusts. she then corks the bottle and looks at her work.
"wow..." she says as she watches the dusts. it looked like gold dots bouncing off each other..like it was alive...
after a while, she walks to the crate and places the bottle back. she walks back to her seat....

Riiya then took out her writing set and wrote down a few more notes on the Norandola plants...

Would it also be possible to cure people who have been infected longer?"
Serena asks as she takes a closer look at the Norandolas.

"A werewolf cure would be very welcome, I can imagine. But we can only find out about the properties of various plants or minerals by testing them, can't we? Which is rather funny, considering that the 'precise art of potion-brewing' came about through the trial-and-error method," Aschere mused.
"Professor, do the Norandolas respond to the touch of a non-magic person - since you had mentioned that prodding the seeds with our wands helps the plant sense our character..."

Ann stares at her bottle of gold dust from the male Norandola plant. It's amazing how this might someday help cure werewolf bites!

Unlike studies of the stars or Divination, Herbology or Potions is a 'Learning by Doing' thing." Quote: Professor, do the Norandolas respond to the touch of a non-magic person - since you had mentioned that prodding the seeds with our wands helps the plant sense our character? Professor Phoenix nodded. "Yes, but it wouldn't influence the plant as deeply--it would leave some traces though, especially, if a lot of time is spent with around the plant. Never forget that the wand choses the wizard or witch, and knows who you are inside--they could paint a perfect picture of you, if told to, something that has been abused more than once.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sirius Potter Fourth Year | Gryfflepuff Andrew listened to Professor Phoenix talk about the experimentation of Herbology and Potions and couldn't help but think of the now famous Weasely Twins George and Fred. How they must have almost drove their Mum mad with it all. Yet, today, they enjoyed huge success at the Diagon Ally store.
"Professor Phoenix if someone wanted to work on new potions and cross experiments with magical plants would they need training past the OWL level? Something similar to Auror's training perhaps but for those areas or would simply they apprentice under a Potion Master?" Gryffindor Lions for the Cup!

"Wow, even a cure for those who have just been bitten would be a great advancement, Professor. I'm also curious as to how the 'wand picture' has been abused?" says Serena as she takes out a sheet of paper and begins to draw a picture of the Norandolas to send home to her mom and dad.
