Professor Rae struggled to open the door to the classroom, nearly tripping over the door frame on her way in. In her arms sat a quite heavy something that was covered in a large star-spangled cloth. She inched it carefully onto her desk before heaving a great sigh of relief that the task was done. Brushing her hands off, Professor Rae crossed the room. After removing her wand, she flicked it, causing the sconces on the walls to flame to life.

"There now," she watched the fire light dance merrily on the walls, then turned to wait for her students to enter.

There's nothing to be sad about. Sometimes I don't know a word that a 8 year old knows. I'm 10 and that is embarssing to me.

Professor Rae overheard Becca. "No, dear... please don't feel that way. It isn't common knowledge, and the only reason I brought it up is because it will play into what we discuss in a few minutes."

"Nadia, as for your question, the pogrebin's major function is to detract all hope from a person. Slowly, over a few hours or even days, the person loses the will to go on because they believe there is nothing worth surviving for. A dementor will do this, as well as detracting any other positive emotions, but the process is much quicker and much more debilitating. They do it as a food source, while the pogrebin is hoping to weaken its prey."

"Oh, I see. So it's pretty much the same feeling, right? How do we know we are being attacked by a dementor or a pogrebin when feeling this down?"

"Well, Nadia, the feeling from the Dementor is much more extreme, plus you feel cold. A Dementor isn't exactly invisible, either."

"Now, let's move on. As you can see, the pogrebin blends in very easily with the stones in this tank. The major way a competent wizard goes about defending him or herself from this creature is simply by knowing it is there. Nothing restores hope so well as realizing it is being stolen from you, and you can take immediate measures to rid yourself of the creature."

"The spell most often used is also the spell modified for DMD's. The spell is Apenbarria, with a quick rightward thrust of the wand. Let me show you." She removed three of the stones from the tank by levitation. "APENBARRIA!" A silvery light flew out of the wand and settled on the first stone, soaking into it and disappearing. The same happened on the second, but on the third, the silvery light soaked in and the entire object took on a brief shimmery light that made it look self-lit. "Ah, we've found out source of dark magic. Go ahead and try this spell on an object near you. Hopefully, it will not look as this last one did. Do NOT try it on a friend."

Christina takes out some rocks out of her backpacks. She removed three.

"APENBARRIA!!!"

A silvery light flew out of the wand and settled on the first stone, soaking into it and disappearing. It did this to every single one.

"Whew..." That was interestind, although I was very nervous as it was my first time doing it.

*looks at the shimmery 'stone'*

'Cool!'

*puts her quill down and get's out wand*

'APENBARRIA!'

*a very small light shoots through the quill, but other than that, nothing happens*

'Well, I suppose that's a good thing, than! At least now I know for sure that my quill hasn't got any dark magic in it!' *laughs*

Nadia tried once on the desk - "APENBARRIA!" nothing happened. "Sorry, professor, how is the pronunciation again? ah-pen-BAH-rria? With a double 'r' as in Spanish?

"A question: isn't a pogrebin a dark creature on it's own - it should already contain dark magic, shouldn't it? Maybe a common pogrebin is slightly lighter on dark magic that an artificially enchanted one...

"A have the feeling it's not really that necessary to use this spell on the pogrebin, but a good example to try the spell, right?"

Kali takes her spare quill to practice with and then her wand.

With a rightward thrust of her wand she says, "APENBARRIA!"

A silvery light goes and sinks into her quill then disappears.

"Good, my quill is not evil

."

"Yes, Nadia, the pronunciation is AH-pen-BAR-rria, with the r's rolled a bit."

"I want to be sure you understand the purpose of the spell. The spell is not to add or remove Dark magic from the pogrebin, but to show if the 'stone' has Dark magic. If it does, then you know it is probably a pogrebin and you can take appropriate measures to contain and dispose of it. If it doesn't, it is probably just a stone. So, in actuality, once I put the pogrebin in with all these stones, the most effective way for me to find him was to try that spell."

Katelyn takes out her copy of Fantastic Creatures and Where to Find them, and points her wand at the book.

"APENBARRIA!"

Katelyn held her breath for a moment, waiting to see what happens.

Light shot out of her wand, and soaked into the book.

Becca goes a litter redder. She takes out her wand and places a quill on her desk. She mutters quietly: "Apenbarria." The quill takes in the slivery flowing light and disappears; she goes back to reading her book.

Why can't we use them in fellow humans?" Nadia asked as she tried once again on her desk. It glowed from second before going back to normal... "Maybe because we all are potentially dark?" while waiting for an answer she tried on her stuff, the desk around her, the shelves of books and items...

Fortunately, the Dark-Revealer, as this is often called, does not pick up on the natural magical flux in wizards and witches, but picks up the Dark magic signature a used spell, a Dark creature, or a Dark object all give off after the magic has been applied."

"Really, and this is just the cautious witch in me speaking, I just don't like you shooting strange curses at each other. This one has a tendency to backfire if you aren't used to it and I don't want anyone to get hurt."

"That's a fair question, Katelyn. If they've just cast a spell with Dark magic, there may be enough residue left for them to get that same glow. However, it must be VERY recent or it isn't dependable. Also, a lot of wizards or witches won't allow the spell to be cast on them, as it is very unpleasent. Think of that cold chill you got from the Disillusionment Charm, but imagine it penetrating right through you, even into the very core of you... It seeks to where your magic resides, so it will flood your body with a feeling of cold, but a very penetrating and disturbing cold that makes you feel violated to your very soul."

"I understand, probably the most secure course of action..." *shudders* "And that doesn't seems a nice experience to have. But I guess I know where having it on you gets plausible, for a VERY important cause, like in a trial to tell if this or that person was under the Imperious... quite unlikely that you would trial a person *just* before it had been enchanted, though..."

Nadia turns at Kathely, "Know what you mean, that doesn't feel any cheerful either to me."

Nadia keep on registering the books in professor Rae's bookshelve...

Didymus pointed her wand at her bag.
"Apenbarria!" A silver light appeared and then soaked into the bag.
She picked up her quill and began to write down some notes about what the Professor had said.

Serena removes a chocolate frog from her bag, then points her wand and says, "Apenbarria!". She watches as the silvery light soaks in and then nothing else happens. "Whew, I can still eat it!" she says to herself. :whisle:

Eve, after writing some notes, took out her wand and started saying the spell at variouse objects around her, each in turn were soaked in light then dissapeared.

A silver light filled the letter, three seconds later it disappers.

"Whew, at least now I know I can read it" *Giggles*
