| | Professor Rae entered the classroom and pulled the shades, flooding the room with the warm light from outside. She smiled to herself and took a deep breath of air coming in from the open window. It was a beautiful day, and a shame to keep the children inside... maybe she'd let them out a bit early.
She took a last look out the window before returning to her desk and the pile of half-graded homework sitting there. Shaking her head ruefully, Professor Rae settled behind the desk and awaited her students.
ooc: I want to inform all those interested that I am BACK on line now, after more than two weeks sneaking in an odd moment here and there. That is good news for those of you who keep harassing me about YAC. Remember that odd little thing called real life? Yes... I just moved into a new apartment, and real life is all attacking me and stuff. |

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Alright, class, settle down," Professor Rae remained seated at her desk, assessing the group with her brown eyes thoughtful. "I hope you'll remember that there is no chattering about like common sparrows in here. I need you to be alert and attentive."
"Today," she rose and moved to the board, where she charmed a piece of chalk to write her words as she spoke. "We will be learning about the Disillusionment Charm. I'm interested to hear what you already know. Please raise your hand and share ONE thing about this charm. Give your friends a chance to respond as well, and please no repeating."
"Now, what do you know?"

(Jessie shudders) That charm feels odd when performed on you, you get a weird chill down your spine... Just a little first-hand experience...

Katelyn raises her hand.
"The disillusionment charm lets one blend into his or her sourroundings, but not disappear completely."

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Nice job, loony, fatima, Katelyn, and Jessie. That'll be five points for Slytherin and Ravenclaw and 10 for Gryffindor. Those are good bits of information about what it feels and looks like when the Disillusionment charm is cast on a person. The person will take on a chameleon effect, blending in effectively with the background, but still visible if you know to look. And Jessie... I'd be interested in hearing about your experience with the Disillusionment charm sometime. That description is spot-on."
"What do you suppose the purpose of the charm is?"

It could help you to get someone without being seen, some famous muggles would probably want one done on them.

(Jessie nods) Like Katelyn said, the purpose is to make yourself invisible, though it doesn't work as well as an Invisiblity Cloak. It's best used after nightfall, when most of your surroundings are in black and you can blend in nicely.

Disillusionment I think means to disolve so probably it mean to be not seen by the eye.

*Raises Hand*
"A Disillusionment Charm is A charm which hides the true, magical nature of something. Hippogriffs and Winged Horses may be kept by Wizards as long as they perform a Disillusionment Charm on them regularly so that Muggles won't notice anything strange about them."

i dont think that large creatures can be kept hidden even with the charm on them cause then everyone would be keeping DRAGONS as pets...........??

| Becca raises her hand. "I know it is worthless to repeat but the Disillusionment Charm is to make you not be able to be seen. If you are in the eyes of an emeny or in the eyes of your mother for example. It is better to be used at night because it is mostly black so you blend in better." |

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "I think we all are in agreement that the major purpose is to disguise or hide something from the sight of others. Five points each to groovychick and Katelyn. And, thank you to Jessie and Firebolt for bringing up very good points - five points to each of you as well. The Disillusionment charm IS best used at night simply because, as Jessie said, it is easier to blend in when all is dark and shadowy. As I said before, the spell doesn't render what it is cast on invisible, but gives it a chameleon effect. The darkness would hide any obvious lines or shadows that might give away whatever it is cast on. Firebolt points out something important - the spell is not used solely on people. Some magical animals are permissable "pets"... within reason, of course, if they are properly maintained and disillusioned. This can be done on objects as well, of course."
"Are there any questions yet?"

*Raises Hand Again*
"When some one casts the spell on you, it feels like someone had broken an egg on your head, like a flood of cold running down over you. When under the Charm, your body took on the appearance of whatever was behind you. You feel like a human chameleon. When the charm is removed it feels like trickling of warmth instead of cold."

(Jessie adresses Loony 4 ....) Well, I think you're right that you can't use the charm on very large creatures, but what if you wanted to keep a winged horse in your stables, but you live near a Muggle village? You can use the Disillusionment Charm on its wings.
Also, if you had to transport even the largest of creatures of creatures though a Muggle town, you can Disillusion it and put it inside on of those Muggle transporting-cars we learned about in Muggle-Studies.
This is all in therory, of course...

Well, it's true that you become chameleon-like, but the broken-egg experience is only one way to describe it. It's like a broken egg in the sense that something is oozing over you, I think it's like... (Jessie pauses, she isn't sure how to explain it) ...your skin is being melted away, well, not really melted, because it's very cold... It's like being covered in ice-water. It always seems to blossom from where the charm is cast.
It makes you tingle, some people like the sensation, but I'm not so sure I'm that fond of it.
