| | Moving Staircases The most logical way for you to get from one part of the castle to the next, from down to the dungeons all the way up to the seventh floor, is making use of the staircases. Even though using them is logical, that does not mean it is going to provide the easiest route from Point A to Point B. The staircases in this tower are notorious for moving without warning whether you are walking on them or not. Hopefully luck is on your side today.
Covering the walls from the bottom of the tower to the top are hundreds of portraits. While they may be intriguing, it is important that you stay focused on the task at hand: getting from one flight of stairs to the next. If you're not paying attention, the staircase you are on will move and you'll have to maneuver your way back down or up again or wind up sinking through one of the trick steps. Under no circumstances should you be sliding down the banisters -- doing so will put your life at risk and, if you live to tell the tale, cost you two week's worth of detention.

| For Kath/Atlas Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Was Moose in a good mood?... HA NO!
It was not uncommon for the Fourth Year Slytherin to be grouchy. Who wouldn't be though? If they had to correct their path twice now thanks to ever changing Moving Staircases. Once they finally stopped moving Moose took a moment to reassess his positioning and calm down a tad. He was trying to get to the Library to get some History of Magic book to help him study the subject that constantly took him by surprise. Perhaps he could get the names of the Architect/Wizard/Witch/Warlock/Sorcerer whoever that thought forever changing sets of stairs would be a smart design choice and curse their descendants.
He spotted his destination quickly and tried to follow the stairs new paths with his eyes before they shifted again. He also looked at the nearest exit they presented him. History of Magic books could wait and he could just quit this little attempt to learn more about this world and get off the very stairs that were not helping his already perturbed attitude.

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Guess who did not mind the moving staircases so much? One Atlas Leonel Flamsteed, who had taken to spending at least one hour of his free time twice a week sitting on them as they moved from one side to the other. He could usually tell what mood they were in based on the frequency of the shifting and which ones were shifting when. Today seemed to be a particularly unruly sort of day and he reckoned it had to do with a couple of the portraits being gossipy about some nonsense or another. Or perhaps it was all the vine business. Given how rapidly they were growing, it was surely only a matter of time before they creeped inside the castle and ensnared one of the staircases. Some, like the exasperated Slytherin stomping around in this Gryffindor's peripheral vision, would likely welcome the forced stagnation. The same would not be said for the blonde, however.
Glancing up from his book, an old tattered copy of Ender's Game (it was a well preserved second edition), he observed the dark haired boy for a couple of seconds before deciding to offer a bit of unsolicited advice. "They're on a 3, 4, 2 loop at the moment."

"They're on a 3, 4, 2 loop at the moment." Moose's eyes landed on the Blonde Gryffindor as he made his way to the same set of steps he was on and raised an eyebrow at those words? "A 3, 4, 2 loop? You mean like the floors they're connecting to or something or do you mean something else?" It made sense a bit if he could explain the loop first. He wouldn't understand otherwise. He put his two hands on one of the rails and let out an exasperated sigh. Then he placed his hands in his pockets and huffed loudly. "Why even move!?" Yes, he's asking these questions now 4 years into school. He's just not had an opportune chance to express out loud his anger at this one odd particularity of Hogwarts yet.
He eyed the Gryffindor once more just so he could get a better glimpse of who he was directing his frustration toward. "Oh and...hi, Flamsteed." Yes, it was just Flamsteed. It was going to be Flamsteed as he was never going to tell Atlas or Aries apart.

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf "Something else," he answered easily with a shrug. He wasn't actually sure what the Slytherin was trying to get at...but he was more sure that it was not what this Gryffindor had meant. "I mean any one staircase is on a 3 minute, 4 minute, 2 minute cycle through movements. This one I am on, for example, moved about two and a half minutes ago...which means in another 30 seconds it will move to touch that other platform over there," he elaborated with a bit of pointing. "But that one above us..." More pointing up at the staircases that the older boy had just come from. "...has a minute and a half before it will move again." Atlas wasn't sure if that next question was a legitimate one or a sarcastic one of frustration, but he had a response for it anyway. "Efficient use of space with minimal resources," he offered with a shrug. "How else would you get to that other platform if this one didn't move? Only person who knows for sure is Rowena Ravenclaw...and you can't exactly ask her...unless the Grey Lady knows what her mum was thinking...or if her portrait was taught the answer and can regurgitate it if you ask."
But...uh....anyway.
"...uh...hi...Oscar."
As in Oscar the Grouch.
