| | Mirror Not far from the balcony, a large gilded mirror can be found on the fourth-floor corridor. Once upon a time, the mirror hid a secret passageway that would take anyone to Hogsmeade undetected at any time. Unfortunately, there was a cave in mid-way that made the passage end up not leading anywhere. Nevertheless, if you're in a pickle and can get the mirror off the wall and back again, you would at least have a neat hiding place.
Most people just try using the mirror to check on their appearance throughout the day. Oddly enough, however, the mirror doesn't show ones reflection. Always being shown in the mirror is a scene of handsome chandeliers, elegant landscape oil paintings, and golden draperies, which is not at all what the wall of the corridor behind you looks like. This is, of course, one of Hogwarts' many mysteries. The location of the room that the mirror is showing is unknown to everyone today. But every now and then, a dark figure can be spotted in the background before disappearing again.

| Ollie/Wednesday ♥ Maya was now in her third year. The ripe age of thirteen aka the year in which she started to notice how everything about her was changing. From her growing taller, to the occasional pimple, things were different. As she made her way towards the library, books in her bag, she walked passed the mirror only to take a few steps back.
As she had never really paid much attention to the way she looked, she had never really stopped to look at this mirror. But now that she did, she noticed something rather interesting. She didn't see the corridor wall behind her, but rather a beautiful room filled with chandeliers and draperies. Just to be sure, Maya turned around to look at the wall behind her.
Huh... how... interesting. Maya placed her hand on the mirror, wondering if her hand would go through but it didn't. She took a step back, seeing herself in such a beautiful place in the mirror, Maya wondered if she ought to change into something else other than a sweatshirt and jeans and take a picture for her parents. For sure, she knew she would have to take Lisa here, all dressed up for a picture or a dozen. Maya placed her bag on the floor as she oohed and ahhed over the mirror - not just her reflection but of everything shown behind it.

Since it was so early in the term, Ollie was all caught up on lessons and any work she might have had. She had finished her map of the school last year, though she still hadn’t memorized it yet, so she didn’t need to walk around and fill it out. She was pacing back and forth, in and out of the common room and the corridor. Bored, she sighed. What to do what to do?
Then she remembered the book she had picked up in before the summer break. She had finished it during her lockdown and wasn’t able to find the next book in the series. That’s what she would do. She grabbed her wand and her notebook before heading out to the library. Hopefully, she could find that second book. Before she made it there she past up a girl looking in the mirror just before the library entrance. She had pasted the girl up before stopping and looking back. She had a familiar face but Ollie couldn’t quite make out who she was. Hmmmm, defiantly a Slytherin. Maybe that was it. No, that was Lisa and Evan’s sister! She now remembered Lisa showing her family pictures. “Hi!” She walked up to her. This was Ollie’s new self. She wasn’t the kind of person to just walk past someone anymore; she was a changed woman! Er, girl. “You’re Lisa’s sister right? And Evan? Nam?” She cursed herself in her head for not remembering he name. |

Immediately, her hands dropped - embarrassed that she was even caught in front of a mirror for that long. Her face flushed pink slightly as she went to grab her bag that she had placed on the ground early. "Hi," she said, wondering if her palms were sweaty or if it were all just in her head.
She recognized the younger girl from around the common room and from the year prior. A fellow Slytherin. Though Maya wasn't too sure about the girl's name. She assumed the younger girl didn't know her name either. To be fair, not many really knew who she was other than 'Lisa & Evan's sister'. Everyone did seem to know her siblings though which just added pressure on her! What if she said something wrong and that caused them to have a negative view of them? "Hi," she replied, smoothing out her slightly wrinkled button down and to make sure her palms weren't sweaty. "Yes, I'm their sister." Maya gave the girl a small smile, and extended her hand. "It's Maya, Maya Nam."
Gosh this was nerve-racking.

Gosh this was nerve-racking. Ollie watched as the girl fixed her shirt, She seemed nervous which made Ollie feel bad. Was she too forward? God! She should’ve remembered her name. It was like all the things she learned in school, or read in books just took up too much space in her brain and names were pushed right back where they came from. She remembered conversations where Maya had come up. If she remembered correctly, Evan and her were talking about sorting.
She smiled and took the girl’s hand “Ollie Burke. Or Olive, though I prefer Ollie.” She pulled her lips into a soft smile hoping to ease the girl’s nerves, and her own. “I’m the same year as Lisa, second year”She wished she was able to accept Evan’s offer of going to stay with the Nam’s for a few days over the break, then she would’ve remembered her name and this wouldn’t be so insulting.
“What are you looking at?” She leaned forward a bit to peer into the mirror. The amount of times she had pasted it and never truly looked at it. |

When Ollie took her hand, she gave it a firm - but not overpowering - grip and a quick shake. She had read once that it was important to also maintain eye contact and barely remembered to do it. Seeing the smile cross the girl's face put Maya at ease. "Oh, yes. They've mentioned you before!" Maya said, mentally facepalming herself for forgetting the girl's name. And rewind that could've sounded like it was a bad thing. Maya was quick to add, "But only good things."
She stepped aside so the girl could get a proper look in the mirror. "The background is rather interesting, don't you think?" Maya said, touching the edge of the mirror gently. "When we turn to look what's behind us, it's clearly the corridor wall. But when you look in the mirror..." She paused as she looked in the mirror again. "It's absolutely stunning in there... the chandeliers, the paintings... it's completely different."

Even though her and her father had a falling out, she still remembers the manners he engraved in her brain.
Oh-uh. Did that mean that she heard bad things about Ollie, that she needed to clarify that they were good? She thought back to previous conversations with the Nam’s trying to remember things that could’ve been taken the wrong way. Or maybe she was just unlikeable. She pulled herself way from her thoughts to make a good impression on Maya. Hopefully, if anything bad was said about her, she could change Maya’s mind about it. But maybe she was just blowing it out of proportion. Did she really think Evan and Lisa would talk bad about her?
It was really pretty. She watched as Maya touched the frame. She looked behind her and matched her sight with Maya’s words. It is really pretty.” She starred at herself in the mirror. Damn did she need to work on her appearance. Her hair was messily tucked behind her ears, shirt half tucked into a skirt that sat crooked on her waist. She was trying to enjoy the beautiful scenery that Maya was going on about but she was getting pretty distracted by ear own image. She stepped back from the mirror. “You seem to really enjoy the art of it. Do you paint or draw or anything?” She wouldn’t be surprised if she did. |

Maya wondered what was going through Ollie's brain - as she often did when she had a conversation with someone new. She would hate to leave a bad first impression on the girl and had a nagging feeling that her siblings would be disappointed in her if she did. Not that they would say it directly. And perhaps not at all and it was entirely in the young girl's mind.
Still, the mirror was absolutely fascinating. She couldn't help but notice that the younger student may not have enjoyed it as much as she did. "Ah, well... no," she answered with an awkward laugh. "I'm not particularly good at either... but I do love looking at beautiful things..." She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Do you?"
She glanced back at the mirror. "I do wonder what the mirror is reflecting. Don't you? It doesn't seem like it's a portal to somewhere magical."

Ollie though she had gotten better at reading people but Maya seemed to be a challenge. She though for sure the girl was like an artist of some sort. But then again, Ollie liked looking at pretty things to and she had no artistic ability at all. “Oh, sorry. You defiantly seem like you’d be into painting.” Maybe Ollie would inspire her to take up a new hobby. If she became famous she could credit her for sparking her passion.
Well, like the other Nam’s she knew, Maya was pretty intellectual. No, the mirror didn’t seem like a portal. But Ollie couldn’t really tell what the mirror was supposed to portray. “I don’t know. I always though it was just a place to kind of escape. Like whoever cast the spell must’ve wanted a place to escape the craziness of the castle.” It was a beautiful place and Ollie wished she knew where the place was, or even if it was a real place. “Like, maybe they wanted to transport themselves to this place. Like for people who read books and they feel like they’re in that world.” |

Was there something about her that looked like an artist? Was there paint of her shoes? Maya glanced down at her clothes quickly just to verify there were no unseemly stains or splatters on her clothes. No, there was nothing there. Was it a compliment then? She was unsure. "I'm more into origami... and calligraphy." Maya offered. Calligraphy was something she had picked up towards the end of summer and she didn't think she was particularly good at that yet either but it was fun.
... maybe she could ask eomma to enroll her in some painting classes over the summer?
Ollie did bring up a good point about an escape from the castle. "But wouldn't it make more sense if the person who cast the spell actually got to experience this?" Maya asked. "It's kind of cruel to be passing by this daily and not be able to experience it." It was like looking at a picture of home and not be there with her family - frustrating with a touch of melancholy. "Maybe the mirror was stolen from wherever that place is."

"Maybe the mirror was stolen from wherever that place is." Ollie watched Maya’s head glanced down and she did too. Nothing was wrong with her outfit, so she wasn’t sure exactly why she looked. “I mean, calligraphy is kinda like painting.” she shrugged. She would never be able to get nice clean lines, and hold the pen just right for every stroke, so to Ollie, it was a form of painting. “And origami is really cool too! But isn’t it pretty mathematical?” She could’ve been making that up, but it made sense to her. With all the precise folding and stuff you have to be able to measure and do angle work and stuff. “If you ask me, those are much cooler than painting anyway.”
That was actually a really interesting thing to think about. Maybe it was stolen. Whoever had stolen it must’ve been pretty sneaky because it looked like a place that would’ve been pretty heavily guarded. “Maybe there’s something behind it that says who it belonged to… like a signature or address.” Ollie walked over to the mirror and looked at where the frame meet the wall. Then she gestured for Maya to help her lift it from the wall. “Here you can grab a side and we might be able to slide it up and see.” |

In a way, calligraphy and painting were similar like Ollie had mentioned. Maybe that meant that if she would take lessons, it would translate directly to it? She was always a fan of watercolors and how that looked. She could always start there! "Not really, it just requires a lot of precision," Maya said with a slight smile. "Let's say one side of the paper is white and the other side is printed, if you fold it incorrectly, the white part could show when you don't want it to," she explained. Maya could feel her heart swell when the younger girl said that origami was cooler than painting. The slight smile grew. "It is rather fun... I'm learning how to animate them!"
She was not prepared to take the mirror off the wall... but who was she to say no if they could get answers? The young girl quickly moved to the other side of the wall, ready to help Ollie lift. "Let's be super careful, we don't want to break it," she said, grabbing hold of the side. Merlin, this mirror looked heavy. "Or maybe we should use a charm to make it easier to carry?"

Ollie thought it was weird that it didn’t evolve math at all but she was sure that if someone wanted to involve math in origami, they totally could. But animating origami? That seemed SO COOL! “You have to show me how you animate them because that seems really, really cool.” She didn’t really care about learning how to animate them as much as she just wanted to see one animated but learning was gonna be cool too. Maya had to be like the most interesting Nam right now. Not to make it a competition. But she totally was! “Okay, that’s probably a better plan.” She nodded to Maya and let go of the mirror. Ollie walked in front of it to get a better look putting her hand up t her chin to think. It wasn’t scientifically proven yet, but she was sure that standing like this helped you think better. Now which spell to use? Maya probably knew more than she did. “Any charms you recommend?” She also turned to look down the hall they were standing in. She had to make sure no professors were coming down as they cast charms on the mirror. Was it against the rules to remove stuff off of walls in the castle? Ollie didn’t want to find out. |

Maya was excited - maybe when she had her little zoo of animals she could show Ollie all of it. And who knew? Maybe Ollie would want to fold them herself too and then they could let loose a bunch of cranes in the halls or have them race. There were a ton of possibilities.
She took a step back from the mirror and looked at it. "Maybe the featherlight charm?" She said as she took her wand out of her pocket. "Or even the levitation charm so we don't have to carry it?" She glanced around, just to confirm there were in fact no professors around. "Probably best we use the featherlight charm so we could thoroughly investigate before we try to pull the mirror off...." She'd have to admit that in moments like these, magic was very helpful. The Slytherin girl took one more quick peek around before casting the featherlight charm on the mirror.
Did it work? Maya pocketed her wand and went over to side of the mirror once more. "Ready?"
