As promised, you find yourself heading to the Defense classroom bright and early the morning after the feast. Hopefully, you've made use of the hearty breakfast the elves provided because there's a good chance you'll need it. This likely went without saying as this class tends to be on the more...physical side.
When you enter the room, you find it's not any sort of room at all. On the contrary, for those who've been to this school from prior years--particularly those a little hard of hearing--the place resembles the one and very same Forbidden Forest. The sudden change to night may be a bit jarring to some while others may be pleased to return to the illusion it isn't, in fact, morning.
The Headmaster stands just inside the door, waiting for everyone to join him among the trees. An ominous full moon hangs low, seeming to touch the tops of the towering trees. A chill sweeps through the forest and in the distance, there is the sound of rustling.
Step lively, this is one class the Headmaster would rather miss.
OOC: Welcome to the first DADA lesson!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24-28 hours
Please note: The students are not in the classroom, please do not RP them coming in and taking a seat. Thank you
V hated that DA always took place at the CRACK OF BLOODY DAWN the first day of classes. It was too early to function! She wished she were old enough for coffee, honestly! The second year stifled a yawn as she entered the room and audibly gasped.
"Whoah....headmaster," she seemed AMAZED. "This is so COOL. What kind of magic is this!?" she asked curiously, pulling her strawberry-blonde hair up into a slick pony-tail.
Her tiredness was quickly forgotten!

Darius walked to the first class of the day, he had eaten, and could really use a nap. But with the Headmaster drilling in that he couldn't even look tired without some sort of punishment he pinched his arms lightly to get the jolt of energy to remove his groggyness. Entering the room he saw.... not the room.
Did I actually take a nap... oh, no. This is real.
"Hello Headmaster." Darius said. He would've said morning but uh... there was a moon there. What was going to be unfolding today, his eyes tried to survey the area.

Jordyn was tired, but she was too excited for her very first class at Hogwarts to spend time thinking about that. She didn’t just want to be on time, she wanted to be early for class. First impressions and all that.
“Good Morning Headmaster”, she said as she entered the room. Two steps in, Jordyn came to a sudden halt. Well this was totally unexpected. For a minute she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. It was dark and they were outside…... This was going to be interesting, to say the least.

First day of lessons had the Ravenclaw a bit on edge. Not really for the lessons themselves, but the idea of Board members... the ones he assumed were who had given them the bogus healer last term, were now going to be milling about. Were they going to be in lessons? He wasn't much fond of that idea as he made his way to DADA, entering tentatively..
And pausing for an entire different reason. This... wasn't his class. Had he touched some sort of portkey to send them to the Forest? Did that even work on Hogwarts grounds?
He blinked for a minute, before remembering his manners and how big on those Professor Trent was. "Good eve-... er, morning, Professor." It looked dark, but was definitely still morning.
He thought.
Stepping further in, Evan went and found a spot near V, one of the few people he currently recognized in the class. He gave her a quick nod of acknowledgement, before getting comfortable in order to wait for the rest to arrive and them to begin.

After seven terms, the fact there was always a DADA lesson the morning after the feast didn’t bother Gracelyn overly much. Between some morning yoga stretches and breakfast, she was rather awake. Not to mention the news that there would be Board members observing things, which had rather put her on the slightest of edges, which also made her more awake than usual. Either way, she’d figured she’d be fine on that aspect of things. No lectures over falling asleep and not being constantly vigilant on her part.
Plus, just in case, she had wrestled her hair into a French braid on the walk from the Great Hall to the DADA classroom. Only to have lowered her hands slowly at the abrupt change from the early morning light in the corridor to night in the forest. “Hello, Headmaster Trent,” she said in greeting, giving him a smile as she was joining him and the other students who had gathered nearby. Hopefully some of her friends would arrive soon.

Ash had slept the night before. She felt well rested and everything. Ashley Fox? Getting sleep? You heard that right. Ash had been sleeping well recently. No, she didn’t want to talk about why.
Anyway, Ash was PREPARED when she walked into... the forbidden forest? Huh. “I set this place on fire once,” she whispered to nobody in particular. That felt like such a long time ago.
She nodded at the headmaster politely. She didn’t give him a look of contempt or anything, but she didn’t look happy to see him either. It was just... polite. That was it. She neglected to greet him verbally, because he’d just call her “Fox” and there was no point in showing him extra respect if he wasn’t going to show her any. No point whatsoever. Whatever.
Valentina headed to her first lesson on the morning after the feast, feeling fresh and ready to tackle the day. Honestly, it felt nice to actually be this early to class for once. The blonde walked inside... and paused. Wait, what?? She blinked, looking very confused. The forbidden forest?? She looked up at the moon, rubbing her arms because it was rather chilly.
"Hello, headmaster." She joined the small group of classmates who were standing nearby, quiet. Val could tell that it was going to be a challenging lesson.
Dishevelled was not the word, not that the word particularly mattered. If it seemed as though Nem had slept in the clothes they'd left the feast in, before heading straight to class, that was only because it was true. Their robes were... somewhere. Didn't matter. Somewhere.
It mattered even less once they reached their first lesson, slipping silently into the subtle darkness of the room. They melted into the trees at what they judged would be the very perimeter of the group, without so much as a pause or break in stride, without acknowledging the Headsman or attempting to draw his attention. For just a moment Nem glanced up, and noted the moon, before turning away from the group and the moonlight. They stared through the trees instead, tuning out the nearby voices of students.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Compared to his first DADA class last year, Daniel was more prepared for this year's first lesson. He knew quite a few spells by now, some learned in classes by the professors, some self-taught and some a few of the older students had taught him.Speaking of which, the Hufflepuff hoped Claudine would be in class because he wanted to confirm a date, place, and time for the tutoring lessons she had promised to give him.
Upon entering the classroom, the second year was slightly surprised at the change of scenery and although he had never been in the forbidden forest he knew it had to resemble it. He flicked his wrist and his wand fell in his hand he was proud of himself he didn't drop it this time!!! just in case and stepped forward as he held it by his side, hidden under the long sleeve of his Hufflepuff robe.
"Hello, Headmaster" he greeted as he stood next to Gellar (UGH) before looking up at the full moon that was in the 'sky'. "Are we learning about werewolves today?"
You know what a hearty breakfast did to Aries Flamsteed? It made him more sleepy. So - the environment did not help matters as he strolled into class. Wait, did he fall asleep on the way here and now it was night time???
Ridiculous.
"Uh - are you collectively squashing all our curiosities about the forbidden forest today, headmaster?" since, you know, he wouldn't let them go in there on any other day.

So...
Was the headmaster aware that this whole set up was just an elaborate Standard marshmallow experiment? Not to mention kind of sending some mixed signals, which his brother seemed to have picked up on as well (and who he was standing next to at the moment, by the way). Don't go in the forest because you'll get eaten or wish you were eaten (that later statement well...anyway), but now the first lesson of term was plopping them right into an elaborate illusion of the Forbidden Forest...at night.
Scare tactics? Those did tend to work on Atlas so...
On the other hand...he still really...REALLY wanted to meet some of the centaurs that dwelled in the Forest so...
It was a toss up as to whatever result today's demonstration of 'how little was Atlas Flamsteed able to defend himself'. Sometimes he just felt like Defense Against the Dark Arts class was entering a perpetual no win situation state. Chances were, since he knew he would not really do well, it would not hinder this little ambition all that much. Don't ask where the logic was there. It had been checked at the door when his eyes had needed several seconds to adjust to the lighting.
His eyes were still adjusting, by the way, so he totally missed Nemesis over in the trees, and he squinted a bit at his Head of House - also known as the discourager of inter-house friendships. Or perhaps paying into old stereotypes that Gryffindors and Slytherins were supposed to be enemies - which made his appointment of Auntie June CONFUSED.
Too much thinking for right now, so down his eyes went to his feet as they rocked back and forth on the conjured grass. Even with the full moon, however, he was sort of having a hard time seeing. "Lumos," he whispered, pulling out his wand and holding the dim light near his face. "...probably won't squash mine," he replied to his brother with a standard dash of brute honesty. "Haven't met a centaur yet. Can we do a joint lesson of sorts with them sometime, headmaster?"
Uh, probably should have started this with a 'good morning'. Oh well.

Bella had eaten a hearty breakfast of pancakes and toast, but still felt sleepy. She was going to DADA though and considering last night's speech she did her best to not seem sleepy. If you could do that? Anyway entering the room, Bella stopped and stared around. Blinking and blinking she didn't imagine it. They were somewhere that looked very much like the Forbidden forest and not their regular classroom, not that she had ever been in it.
Licking her lips, feeling suddenly nervous Bella made her way over to stand next to Darius before she greeted their professor as a chill swept over them. "Hello Headmaster Trent!"
Maya was a fan of morning classes. Mostly because she was an early riser to begin with so waking up and getting ready had never been a challenge for her. However, it was another year at Hogwarts which meant that everything was suspicious. She had learned that her previous two years and from her brothers.
From the Great Hall, she had made her trek to the DADA classroom. Upon entering, she was slightly taken aback. Hadn't the Headmaster just mentioned at the feast that no one was allowed into the Forbidden Forest? Was the doorway some sort of magical portal? Maya was tempted to walk back out and investigate further but resisted the urge since Headmaster Trent was standing right by the door.
"Good morning, Headmaster," she greeted.
Her brown eyes took a quick look around the room... well... the forest spotting her brother, Evan. Maya joined him and gave her elder brother a smile. "Morning Ev, hope you had breakfast... looks like class will be interesting."

Unlike a lot of other people his age, Kayne had actually really enjoyed mornings. He was used to getting up around 5:30 AM anyways to go for runs arounds the grounds. Even though he was still at a school for magic, the kid couldn't just let his athleticism slip away. That would be a waste of what's he been doing all his life basically. Kayne's love for sports had transpired even before his love for magic. Well, all but one sport, that is. Quidditch, which is rather ironic. Mordrake absolutely despised it, solely due to the fact that he wasn't good at flying. And he saw no point in liking a sport that he wasn't good at. Conceited? Maybe. Fear of not doing well at something? Definitely.
As for his outfit today, the fifth year was sporting one of his signature 90s inspired looks, but this time with a little bit of a 70s twist. His shirt was a fitted, white tank top with the sides cut and embellished with shoelaces, giving it the effect as if the shirt was laced together up to his arm. Overtop of that, Kayne had some tie dye overalls on which flared out into bell bottoms; the yellow, pink, and blue seemingly mixing together in a wondrous blend of pastels, with a hint of neon. Obviously, the look wouldn't be complete without some matching nails, which is precisely what he also utilized. The nails were short, but painted to match the tie dye of the overalls.
Walking into the classroom, the first thing Kayne took note of was...it not being the classroom at all? It was a lovely view of the forest, it just took threw him in for a loop for a second there. After that initial shock though, the Slytherin had just stood there and basked in the scene for a second. He had always loved the look of the Forbidden Forest, even though it did look rather creepy at times.
Eyes now redirecting themselves away from the view and over to the Headmaster, Kayne couldn't help but think of what he should do as a greeting. It was the first day of classes, a boring 'good morning', just simply wouldn't cut it. Quickly coming up with something, so that way he wasn't just awkwardly standing there staring, Mordrake decided to stick with the overall (pun intended) theme of the 90s. In his best Mrs. Doubtfire voice, he let out a big "Heellooooo Headmaster Trent." Starting to now walk more into the classroom, he continued on saying (still with the Mrs. Doubtfire impression) "I hope you're doing well today." With that being said, Kayne couldn't help but laugh at himself a bit. There was certainly no wrong time for his tomfoolery.
Making his way over to his favorite Ravenclaw, Ash, he tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey stranger! How've you been?" Kayne asked, his voice lined with delight. Finally, the Lord of Divination had been reunited with the Queen of the Swamp. To him, it had felt like ages since the two have last seen each other, but in reality, it was only about 3 months. But still, that didn't take away from how enthuses he was to see Ash again.
First day of classes and the lessons were back in full swing. Too bad that Chirstian couldn’t say he had the same enthusiasm for the day, it was too early for classes. At least for the first day, he was still on summer time which meant that he should still be in bed until at least lunch time.
But
Here he was getting up and dragging himself to defense against the dark arts lesson. By the time he rounded the corner to the classroom and saw the headmaster by the door he might be awake and alert enough to get through the lesson. ”Good morning, Professor Trent.” If the walk to the third floor didn’t wake him up before then the sight of the forbidden forest did.
He moved along the crowd of the standing students. Nodding or waving toward a few of them. Darius and Ash mostly were the ones he had seen right away in the strange moonlight. He wondered what would be in store for this lesson, as he stared out into the trees.

A very sleepy Cal shuffled into the classroom, not so bright and far too early, and did a double take. If he hadn't known better Cal would've thought he'd walked right down to the Forbidden Forest, crazier things had happened. "Morning Mr Headmaster.." He wouldn't go so far as to say it was a good morning and he wasn't sure it would ever become a good morning with this current set up. "Is this going to be Care of Creatures meets Dark Arts, like?" Cal could do without the monsters that could be found in the forest.
He stifled a yawn and walked over to Aries Atlas...? Both??? "What's with the early start?"

It was pretty standard that the first few lessons of term were paired with enthusiasm and an readiness to learn. For most that wore off a few weeks in, but Remy liked to think herself as an all year round good student. She enjoyed a good DADA class, although she did plan on being better at it for her second year. Last year it turned out to be one of those classes she was just average in, and that was not good enough!
Remy’s first reaction to the Forbidden Forest look going on inside the classroom was amazement. She’d never been so close to what seemed to be that forest before, and the illusion was a very impressive one at that. It looked like the doorway was literally leading to the outdoors. Magic was so cool.
Standing by the obvious choice, the Flamsteed twins, Remy moved her face close to Atlas’ (not cheek touching, don’t worry) to get a good view of his wand-lighting charm. “Nice. That makes the forest look so much cooler.” She complimented his wand work, naturally. Also, hi.
“Good morning, Headmaster Trent.”
She could already tell that this class was going to be EPIC.

Ollie already had her wand out and ready when she walked to the first defense against the dark arts class of the term. She leaned pretty quickly that Professor Trent meant business when it came to this class. Truly, Ollie struggled with this class. Not with the material itself, but with the fact that she was pretty sure Professor Trent was trying to kill the entire class. Nevertheless, she had her wand out and ready for action unsure of what she would walk into today.
As she neared the door she noticed it was not the usual classroom, but yet the forbidden forest. Was this a test? Was she not supposed to enter the classroom since it was, well, forbidden after all? She stepped up to the professor in the doorway, ”Good Morning, Professor.” She kept it simple and sweet whilst she peered over his shoulder to see some of her classmates in the… erm…classroom(?) already. So she pushed past Professor Trent and made her way to the group of people she recognized.
V, Evan, and his sister Maya all stood in a small group just inside the forest/classroom thing. “Hello guys” she greeted excited to see her friends after what seemed like a summer that lasted forever.

By now, Claudine had become accustomed to the early lessons that came in the form of DADA. The moment she stepped into the room, saw the greenery, the familiarness that was the Forbidden Forest, the seventh year found her anxiety threatening to overwhelm her. The nightmarish reality from her second year where she and Bernadetter were almost killed by acromantulas flashed vividly before her. She saw Trent and Fuller-Thompson, the latter’s sweet dogs being eaten… all because of her. Claudine squeezed her eyes shut, took deep breaths to calm herself.
When she opened her eyes, she was only calmed slightly but she tried to pass it off as if this entire Forest setting didn’t bother her. “Professor,’’ Claudine greeted, having finally caught sight of him standing right there. One thing she was certain of, the man would recall all the details of that misadventure five years ago. Suddenly, she felt the need to apologise for it. Had she done so back then? She couldn’t remember. Whatever.“Sorry about what happened during my second year,’’ Claudine mumbled before going to stand next to Darius where the rustling sounds were ignored. At least she tried to ignore them.
Tadhg was ready for the day, after a nice morning run with Lia after they ate he was ready for the day. Tadhg wasn't a morning person by any means, but being with Lia he was slowly starting to, she was a early bird. Walking into the classroom he looked back out the door before looking back in, well this was something for sure. Biting his lip he stepped in closer to where Professor Trent was by the door waiting for them. Tadhg wasn't the one for dark places, but he wasn't going to let that fear show, part of DADA was to conjure your fear.
Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, he walked towards Professor Trent. "Good Morning Professor sir, hope you're well. " With a nod he went to stand not to far from Ash giving her a wave and a small smile. He wondered if they were learning about werewolves or so, sorta did look like a werewolf like setting. Whatever it was, he really didn't like it but that was these type of lessons for you, a bit nerve wracking and scary at the same time at times.

Early morning lessons were easy peasy! Dahlia was no stranger to raising early and was wide awake when she met Tadhg outside for their morning run together. Then it was back inside together to the great hall for a hearty breakfast of a little oatmeal, toast and some strawberries with orange juice. Afterwards she had parted ways to go back to her dorm to shower and get ready for their first lesson of the term.
Really it was all about timing. That's how she was wide awake and perfectly on time as she reached the DADA room with a bounce in her step. Stepping through the doorway there was an immediate difference from the bright corridor she had just been in, to the now darkened evening sky in that of the Forbidden Forest.
Bright blue eyes swung from dark shadowy clumps of trees and surrounding students to the doorway behind her. After what was said during the feast the night before was this meant to be some sort of scare tactic? Cause if so, it was already somewhat unsettling. This was definitely not like the forests where she went camping with her family or Tadhg's during the summer. Speaking of Tadhg.. it only took a moment for her to spot him and make her way towards him.
"Good day, Headmaster," Dahlia greeted softly. Standing side-by-side with Tadhg, her arm brushing up against his, she intertwined her pinkie around his giving it a gentle squeeze. Her free hand now holding her wand.. just in case. One could never be to prepared.

Violet entered the DADA class awake and ready, because she had determined (along with a few other things) that this year she was not going to let her dislike of early rising affect her performance in morning classes. Which meant getting up in time to wheedle a couple of cups of coffee from the overly-solicitous elves who argued that coffee was bad for growing children. Pfffft, at sixteen, she was hardly a child, and next month she'd be an adult in the eyes of the Wizarding World. Which was a sobering thought.
"Good morning, Headmaster Trent," she remarked with just the proper degree of politeness and respect and headed further into the room, only to be a little taken aback by finding herself in the Forbidden Forest. She hadn't been there since her second year, and things hadn't gone well, so she'd avoided it ever since.

It was his first lesson ever at Hogwarts and it just happen to be DADA. As he was about to walk in however expecting somewhat of a normal lesson, (What's normal in Hogwarts? Ha.) a cold breeze greeted him. Was it night time? And a forest? Max rubbed his eyes.
"Ay Professor," he said glad that the night sky was easier on his eyes compared to the morning sun.
He waved at Violet. He saw her at the great hall last night.
Mornings were the best. She'd been up, she'd run, she'd breakfasted, and now she followed Jordyn into the Defense Against the Dark Arts...forest? She hesitated inside the door, giving the headmaster an alarmed look before stepping further into the scary forest. Who was here? Jordyn, or course, but also Gracelyn and Nemesis. While normally she'd stand by one of the older students, she had promised to show Jordyn the ropes, so she silently stood next to the other fourth year.
