| | Courtyard Accessible from the castle via the Clock Tower, the courtyard is both a throughway, leading to the wooden bridge which spans the nearby ravine, and a popular area of the grounds in its own right.
Many students spend their free time here outside of classes, particularly during break or lunch. Between lessons, this area is usually crowded with students catching up with their friends, getting in a round of gobstones, or lingering under the pear tree while they wait to head to their next class. A covered cloister surrounds the paved courtyard, and stone benches are spaced throughout the covered area, as well as dotted around the courtyard itself. Much of the architecture is in the gothic style, from the arches to the gargoyle parapets.
In the middle of the courtyard is an ancient fountain flanked by stone eagle sculptures, their features somewhat worn away by the elements over the years. Feel free to make a wish and toss a coin into the fountain, but be aware that once it's gone, it's gone. Any attempts to retrieve it will be unsuccessful, as the coin will keep magically sinking out of reach. Do try to jump into the fountain; staff will take pains to rescue you, but they're unlikely to be very impressed.
An addition to the courtyard as of 2104 is a bronze plaque, hanging on a restored pillar, its cracks and missing pieces clearly visible to those who take a good look. Both the pillar and its commemorative feature have now been charmed to prevent theft. The plaque reads: Quote: This marks the location of the duel to the death between the Neo-Alliance leader, Lucien Rosier, and the British Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry, which resulted in Rosier's death. Long Live Hollingberry! May 10, 2104.

| dear family doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo With the picnic blanket (her bedsheet) set out and lots of food laid out on top of it (courtesy of the house elves), Kins was ready for the arrival of her siblings. She even made little name tents for them with the pretty cursive hand-lettering she had worked on all summer. It was only after she adjusted her one name tent that she realized maybe she should have invited Cooper and Coralee and Cece and Sammy and Emm and Emma to join too.
But maybe it was okay that this was just for them. She always craved time with Fifi and Teddy. And... it was still early in the year. They'd have other chances for bigger goodbye picnics. This one wasn't exactly a goodbye picnic anyway. It was. It was just. It was more like a 'making more Hogwarts memories together before it's goodbye' picnic.
Except she didn't tell them yet.
It was going to be really hard when they were gone. She could already feel it with her whole heart. Even with the whole year they had ahead, Kiz still missed them. Like, in anticipation.
But right now she was being really happy, super silly Kizzy. Sitting on a corner of the bedsheet and waiting not-so-patiently for Fifi and Teddy to get here. Would it be in poor taste to start munching on the cookies without them? Because. She couldn't really help herself. They were just soooooo good, so she reached for another.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Kizzy had a GENIUS idea of setting up a picnic for them, and even though the spot she chose was a little dire, Phoebe was glad to spend a little quality time with her siblings. The opportunities to do that at Hogwarts were going to be limited from here on out.
Phoebe dropped onto the blanket and gave her younger sister a squeeze. "This place makes me sad. I mean happy to be with you, but..." She nodded at the pillar and the plaque. "It's so weird to think of everything that happened here, and we're just expected to come to school like it isn't a place where people fought and died. More than once. And where Mum was born and was kidnapped. Am I being dramatic?"

| sisters xoxo be curious, not judgmental Following closely behind Fi, Teddy let his twin get settled beside their younger sister before very dramatically - but carefully, as to not actually squish anyone upon impact - splaying out across their laps, his upper body across Kiz's legs and his lower half across Fi. "But it's also where a lot of good things have happened. People have probably had all kinds of adventures even just here in this courtyard, stuff we'd never even imagine - silly things like first kisses, or someone finally performing a spell they'd been trying to get just right forever, or epic Gobstones matches -- I heard some older girl's pygmy puff give birth out here our first year," he mused to Fi.
"I mean, think about it: life, death, love, heartbreak, joy, despair - there's good with the bad, probably in every single nook and cranny of this place." He reached for a cookie. "Just like in the real world."
Teddy had given this a lot of thought, and more than anything, he was grateful that they'd had so much firsthand experience in tackling real, scary issues in a semi-controlled environment with professors to look out for them. It wasn't ever foolproof, and the number of students that had once died on these very grounds was nauseating to comprehend, but... there was good. Always good. So much good.

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo "Oh, sorry," she ducked her head apologetically, setting down her half-eaten biscuit. The courtyard is sad, Phoebe was right. It was just. It was just that. Well. Kiz didn't think she could manage to carry all the picnic stuff all the way out to the lake before her arm fell off and she couldn't risk using magic (as it would probably end in disaster as it always did and would so totally ruin the whole picnic before it even started). So. The courtyard was easiest. But ... if it made Fifi sad, maybe the risk of a dismembered arm would've been worth it. She'd remember this for the actual goodbye picnic.
It was real nice of Teddy to try and turn it around though. She ruffled his hair affectionately as he waxed poetic. "Did a pygmy puff really give birth here?" She scrunched her nose as she thought about how gross and messy a pygmy puff birth might be. "Or did you just make that up?" To make them feel better about how sad the courtyard is? HMMM?
Kizzy's on to you, Theodore!

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "I'm allowed to feel how I feel, Tedward, and you can't talk me out of it with your excessive good cheer," Phoebe stole the rest of Kizzy's biscuit, popping it into her mouth and reclining backwards onto a bench. She'd just pretend to be a beautiful mummy, since Teddy was going to be CHEERFUL and Kizzy was going to apologize for nothing.
"We ought to have a list of things to check off this year. Places to have picnics, and we'll put Teddy in charge of the basket. Kizzy can pack it, and Teddy can carry it." She tapped her heels against the bench. The sky was extra extra blue, which was nice for this time of year. "But also some adventures, ok?"

| be curious, not judgmental Sometimes, Kiz's meekness hurt his heart. Actually, it was all the time. Constantly. Teddy leaned up to give his not-so-baby sister a kiss on the cheek as if to remind her that everything was okay. She was with her two favorite human beings (or at least her two favorite siblings) in the world. Fi was okay, and they were safe. Well - as safe as one could be at Hogwarts. At Fi's rebuttal, Teddy grinned, and he shook his head good-naturedly when Kiz ruffled his hair. "Everyone's allowed to feel what they feel, of course, but in the same breath, we can also find beauty. It's cool that it can all co-exist."
They'd all done an awful lot of mourning over the last few years, and while the healing process was slow, Teddy had found it most helpful for him to actively work to shift his perspective. Intrusive thoughts and memories were creeping in? He forced himself to recall the bravery, the heroes, the selflessness, and the kindness during those times. Where there was bad, he found that there was always some good, if he looked hard enough. That was his default coping mechanism, but if Fi really needed a good cry, Teddy could shift back to the evil, bad, and terrible, too. It was always lurking just under the surface, they knew.
A smile returned at Kiz's questioning about the pygmy puff, to which Teddy articulately responded with, "Mhrrhrmm," and a dismissive hand-wave. The details weren't important, Kinsay Cassandra.
As Fi helped with the change of conversation, Teddy wormed his way out of their laps and made himself comfortable on his back on the edge of Kiz's bedsheet to admire the sky. "Basket carrier. Got it." Although he was serious, there was the slightest hint of amusement in his response; he'd accept any role bestowed upon him, but basket carrier was less-than-glamorous. Even so, Fi and Kiz were both good at coming up with fun things to do on their own, but together, they were quite the pair. Teddy was elated by the possibilities of their brainstorming.
"Reckon we've found most secret passageways. Can't imagine much has slipped our notice, though I can ask around." The castle itself was cool and held lots of secrets, but all three of them had long been curious explorers who enjoyed knowing things. "What else?"

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo In regard to feelings and seeing beauty and being sad and STUFF, Kizzy opted to stay quiet. She’d just sit back and let Teddy and Fi battle this one out. They were both right and she still felt kind of bad about choosing a sad spot for their sibling picnic. Plus! She actually liked sitting back and letting Teddy and Fi do their thing. It was one of her most favorite activities to do with her two favorite human beings.
And for the record, details were the MOST important, Theodore Maddox!
As Teddy moved off their laps, Kins shifted around to keep her legs from falling asleep. And as for their newly assigned roles, she could be a basket packer - easy! But adventures would be nice too, she liked those. “Sneak into the staff room?” It didn’t seem all that exciting to be honest, but she didn’t have a lot of ideas. Usually other people came up with the adventures and Kins just tagged along for the ride. “Epic snowball fight?” Did that even count as an adventure?
Maybe it’d be best if Phoebe chose something. She’d think of something real good, Kinsay was sure.
