Standing squarely in the middle of an otherwise featureless lawn is an immense oak tree with sprawling, high-reaching branches, its foliage thick and rich with natural colour, depending on the time of year. The tree is taller than it has any right to be, and seems ideal for climbing. That is, indeed, what your benevolent groundskeeper had in mind when he grew it.
The very lowest branches jut out six feet or so above the ground, but if you can't reach or haul yourself onto these, there are little nooks and conveniently located knots in the trunk to get you started. Up in the higher branches, you'll find platforms and maybe a basic treehouse structure or two, but the real fun to be had is in traversing the tree itself.
Climbing tree though it is, this area also serves as a pleasant meeting place, the vast canopy of leaves providing plenty of shade in the summer months. A plank swing dangles from one of the lower branches, and a tyre swing from another.
It's pretty difficult to confuse this tree with the Whomping Willow. For starters, you're in an entirely different part of the grounds. Not to mention, the climbing tree is an oak, and (presumably) won't maim you for trying to climb it. All the same, you're expected to treat this place with respect. Don't act like a fool, especially when you're high up in the tree. If you do happen to fall, the slowing and softening charms in place around this area will kick in, and you will come to no great harm.
Do as you please here, as long as its within school rules. Relax. Have fun. Go wild.

After classes were done for the day, Daniel chose to go out for a bit of exploring. Since there was always something new to find on the Grounds he decided to start there. It didn't take long before he walked past some domes that he had not seen before last year but it hadn't held his interest enough for him to go inside to check the area out. He continued until he faced a giant tree and he stopped.
He gazed around at the scenery and recognised it was not the whomping willow because that tree was on the other side of the grounds. So.... what tree was this? Had it always been here? He couldn't recall it being here last year though he had not been outside much back then as he mainly stayed in the library or common room.
Putting his hands on his hips, he stared up at the branches and observed a pattern that went up until his dark brown eyes saw the small treehouse. Did he have to climb to get up there? He let out a soft chuckle at the thought that his brother would have already been halfway up if he had been here.

Remy was OF COURSE going to attempt the climbing tree, which had little features all over it that was looked so exciting to explore. She had decided to give her climbing skills a run for their money before going for the main attraction - the tyre swing. Without thinking about her movements too much, Remy quickly shot up the tree like a squirrel. Suddenly she heard a chuckle and she put her adventure on hold to peek at who it was.
“Daniel Yoon?” Remy knew him, of course. They were from the same year group. That being said, she hadn’t spent any time with the Hufflepuff, meaning she was curious about him. “Are you coming up?” The distraction caused her to lose her footing and she fell right out of the tree. Thankfully she wasn’t too far up by this point but even so - the cushioning charm had worked and softened the blow.
It still winded her a bit, though.
“Owwwhhh.” Remy ensued her usual dramatics with a wolf howl.

Upon catching his name being called out, Daniel looked up to see one of the Gryffindors already climbing the tree. He wasn't convinced if he wanted to climb the tree though. The branches looked sturdy enough but this was Hogwarts. Nothing was sturdy here. But if he ever wanted to become a curse breaker, he had to get used to dangerous situations. And climbing a tree was definitely dangerous, right?
He opened his mouth to answer her question when he saw her lose her footing and he watched as she fell down. Like he had assumed, there was a cushioning charm under the tree for anyone who fell down. "You ok?" he asked although his concern did not specifically reach his voice. But he held out his hand to help her up. He was feeling hospitable today. Don't get used to it.
Christian passed by this tree the other day while out on the grounds. It had been the first time that he noticed it. He was 110 percent sure that he had never seen that tree. But it could have always been there, right? Trees were trees and when he looked at them they all kind of looked the same. Either way old tree new tree, he knew that when he had some free time to go outside that this was where he was going.
When he arrived at the large tree he walked around it a few times checking it out. Looking for a good spot to start at. Once he found one he climbed up. How far was he going to go, who knew.

Ash loved being outdoors. She felt happier and more free out here than she felt sitting indoors and crying. So here she was, outside, looking at this tree she was sure she'd never seen before. It was a nice tree... were they allowed to climb it? It didn't matter. Who was watching anyway? She started climbing, pushing off of a conveniently located knot and jumping to get a hold on one of the lower branches. From there she scrambled up higher. Was it dignified or graceful? Not really. But it was beautiful in a way. It was effective, and a bit impressive. Also, kinda dangerous-looking. But whatever. The point was, Ash had climbed a considerable distance when she spotted... Christian? "HI," she yelled upwards at him. "WAIT UP."

Usually, when someone full named you, you would full name them back. It was a bit of a declaration of knowing each other. Maybe Daniel didn’t know her name. In which case - RUDE. Wasn’t Remy one of the most popular second years in school??? Okay, maybe second to Lisa Nam… okay, maybe third to Serena Baltazar-Dos Santos. You know what, the list could go on forever, it was best not to discuss it without feelings getting hurt. HER FEELINGS.
Half expecting the Hufflepuff to fuss over her, she was shocked that it wasn’t the reaction that she had received, and it warranted a little pout from the little lion. She begrudgingly took hold of his soft hand, though, and pulled herself to her feet. “I’m fine. Did you see how high I got, though?” Remy looked up and nodded at her achievement. Must’ve been about 2 metres.
Anyway… “well? Are you climbing up? I can help you, if you want.” You know, if he was scared.

Never having had any friends before coming to Hogwarts and even here Lisa Nam had been the only person to tell him they were friends, Daniel had never known about having to call a person back by their full name after they had done it. The only times his full name was being called out was whenever he had done something wrong.
Despite being in the same year and having gone to the same classes, her name did not pop up in his mind instantly. Even after she took his hand and he pulled her up from the ground, his mind was still trying to figure out if her name was Demy or Remy. He was certain it was one of the two.
"Was it?" he asked, looking back up the tree. "I've never climbed a tree before so I wouldn't know." it.....honestly had not looked that high, though.
Did he want to climb up? He still wasn't sure of that but he also didn't want to come over as scared. Which he wasn't by the way, he hadn't found anything he was scared of as of yet. "You think it's wise to teach someone to climb a tree when I just saw you falling out of one?" he asked.

If she had known that he had pondered her name being DEMY, she definitely would have made a scene. Also - she’d have to do something to increase her reputation, and she’d probably do anything for that.
Her mouth fell open a bit, dramatically. “You’ve never climbed a tree before?” Had he… had a rubbish childhood or something? “There’s a cushioning charm anyway so you can’t die here.” Meaning what was the point in being afraid? Remy had pretty tough guts from her adventurousness during flying last term. “It might be easier for me if you were there to help.” To catch her if she slipped, and such.
“Hey.” She rolled her eyes and placed a sassy hand on her hip. “I only fell out because you distracted me. You WERE staring at me.” That’s right, let’s play the blame game. “‘Sides, falling is kinda fun.” Finally she grinned wide.
“If you’re not climbing, what are you doing?” Remy rubbed her stomach as it was still hurting a little from her gracious fall.

Daniel crossed his arm in front of his chest defensively as Remy's mouth fell open in a dramatic fashion. "My older brother did once. He fell out of the tree outside of his bedroom window while trying to sneak out at night." he said. " He injured his ankle after the security guard had spotted him. Father was not happy and gave him a month's house arrest" it was the best time of his life. HEH. "Anyway, I never had the desire to climb a tree " That did not mean that his childhood had been rubbish. He favoured spending his time either reading books or driving people up the wall.
"It's not my fault you are unalert" he shrugged his shoulders. The hand on her hip reminded him so much of V and he disliked it. "And I wasn't staring at you I was looking at the tree because I had not seen it before" He hadn't even noticed she had been in the tree which made him unalert as well but he wasn't going to mention that.
"I wanted to explore the grounds" He said simply before his gaze went to see her rubbing her stomach. "Are you hungry?"

First weekend of a new term could only mean one thing, exploring time! With breakfast in her belly and Sir Frederik Puffington tucked against her neck comfortably, Lia headed out onto the grounds. Fresh air and sunshine wasn't something she would be turning down anytime soon.
"Okay, so where do you think we should start? A walk along the pathways? Or should we say hi to our friends in the barns?" Lia hummed softly to her little fluffy pink bestie whom gave absolutely no response whatsoever. "Hmm? No suggestions? Welp.. okay then. I guess I'll just have to come up with something fun for us to do all on my own." She laughed very softly. If anyone saw her right now they might just think she was talking to herself. Not that she would even care if they did or not, they were welcome to think whatever they pleased.
Off in the distance a very large tree caught her eye, one that made her quicken her stop and cause her to smile brightly. Well, hello there beautiful! "Look at them, the hand and foot holds.. the branches and the platforms! Those treehouses up there!" Dahlia giggled excited standing at the bottom of the tree staring upwards at all of its lovely large tree glory.

Daniel seemed a bit defensive about his poor childhood. Remy decided not to question it any further to avoid upsetting him. She nodded as he explained about his brother. “I guess that makes sense. I hope your brother didn’t have any long term damage.” Unlikely that outside of his bedroom window had the same cushioning effect that this tree had. “You might enjoy it! It’s an adrenaline rush for sure.” And who didn’t enjoy those? Even more of a rush when you fell.
UMMM…
Why was Daniel being rude???? “Oooooookay, Daniel, no need to be mean.” Usually she’d bring out the waterworks when someone was mean to her, but she was feeling too irritated by it. “I happen to be really alert. I’m soooo good at flying class, did you know?” Of course he knew - they were in the same class.
With her eyebrow raised, Remy blinked at the boy. “No. I winded myself. You know, from falling out of a tree.”
DUH.

Daniel shook his head. "He probably was more upset that he couldn't leave the house for half the summer than that he was hurt"
The second year raised his head up again to look at the small treehouse up in the tree before looking back at DRemy. "You really seem to like it" and for that, he began to become a bit more interested. WHAT was so special about climbing a tree? "Alright I'll climb..." this was a mistake wasn't it?
"I wasn't being mean?" he looked properly confused now. Why did people always think that he was being mean? "I was just stating a fact. You were unalert" he shrugged. He was certain that even the Headmaster would have called her out for it if this had been a class.
"Yeah, you are" he said absentmindedly while gazing at the lowest branch of the tree. So if he climbed that one? And then....ah there was the second branch... He thought that he got the climbing route. "I suck at Flying" he said after a short pause and then let out a small chuckle.
So she wasn't rubbing her stomach because she was hungry but because the fall had hurt... "Oh ok" Daniel said and then put his hand inside of his pocket and took out two frog gummy candies before popping both in his mouth without offering one to the girl. She had just said that she wasn't hungry, right?
"So, how do I climb this thing without falling to my death?" bit dramatic, he knew. But APPARENTLY, he was dramatic according to some. Looking at you Lisa and Alfred.

Tadhg couldn't believe they were back already, and here they were third years, okay... they were just third years and have a way to go but they were teenagers now. Of course they were still kids, but they were alot more mature then they were their first and secind year. It was the first weekend of the term which meant exploring with Lia and his friends. Seeing how it was still nice, he decided to head outside for some fresh air.
With Shadow on his heels he walked down the sloping lawn biting his lip wondering where his feet and mind were going to take him. Walking around his feet guiding him, he headed towards a big tall tree and snapped back into reality when he seen it. "Wow... this tree is huge and big!" As he seen Lia he smiled. "Hey Bubbles, shall we go up?" He asked her with a smirk.
He wondered if anyone has carved their names into the tree, not that he would do it, but he seen in the trees at the muggle parks S&S 4eva or so carved into the trees while climbing them. Although he didn't think anyone did that to the tree here, even if they did he was sure the tree was charmed to remove ir or so. Seeing the treehouse he smiled happily he loved treehouses, they were so calm and peaceful.

NO WAY. She had convinced Daniel to climb the tree?! She must be the most influential person in the ENTIRETY of Hogwarts. “COOL. You won’t regret it.” Take it from someone who had actually fallen out of said tree.
Pfft. “Well… whatever.” She didn’t take well to being called things that weren’t totally positive, despite how minor they were. Remy absolutely would not make that mistake again!! Daniel was soooo sarcastic, but thankfully, Remy was too big headed to notice. Instead she wanted to summon her broom to show the Hufflepuff just how awesome she was. “Aw really? What’s your favourite class?” She figured everyone would pick flying but there were other cool ones.
Her eyes widened as she peeked to see what Daniel was pulling out of his pocket. Awww, gummy frogs?! She waited for him to offer her one of the two but… oh. Remy slouched a little in disappointment, then patted her own pockets to see if she had anything to satisfy herself.
“Over here.” Suddenly her stomach was completely fine and she grabbed Daniel’s hand, dragging him to where she had started to climb before her… fall. “I started here… but now I’m thinking, take this step instead.” She pointed to the opposite side. Probably not the best idea to repeat her route.

Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛
Lisa was glad to be outside. Her ears had been turning bright red all morning and she had sneezed (ahem… Mr. Yoon, we see you.. It was a place where she could just walk for hours on end, lost in her own imagination or with her nose in a book. Today, she had her journal in her hand as she approached the Climbing Tree. She needed some inspiration for the dance that she and Stewie were designing but she didn’t know just what would help build that passion.
Surely Jane Austen would be a good starting point because WHO WOULDNT LIKE A BEAUTIFUL BALL WITH GOWNS AND FUN DANCING AND CANDLELIGHT? Err… scratch the candles. She shuddered as she remembered just who candles reminded of her. Healer Poppy. That crazy happy lady that was just trying to make the world a better place with lots of gluten and lots of zen, sleepy candles. The woman may have had good intentions but if it hadn’t been for Lisa’s best friend and hero.. well maybe things would have been different.
Her eyes widened at a thought. “Oh!” she gasped. She ought to ask Serena what she thought about the ball. Of course, her Slytherin bestie would have to be the lady of honour at the whole event. She was the next Harry Potter after all in Lisa’s eyes. The chosen one who rescued everyone (just her) and saved the day.
She closed her notebook and glanced up at the tree. Perhaps some climbing would do her some good with brainstorming?
After a LONG day of lessons and homework, val headed out of the castle for some much needed fresh air. She wasn't putting off her homework until the very last minute anymore, instead trying to get it done as soon as possible. It was a lot less stressful honestly! She ended up near the climbing tree, pausing to look up at the branches, her eyes widening slightly. It was so tall!! But she wasn't interested in climbing. The blonde approached the plank swing instead because swiiiiings! What's not to love about swings??
.. it was only then she noticed that she wasn't alone. Val glanced at the younger girl who was looking up at the gigantic tree, smiling a little. "Do you want to climb it??" She asked curiously.
"WAIT UP."
As he climbed higher, he started to realize how big this tree actually was. It was huge. It had been a while since he had even climbed a tree. It was a nice rush, he had done it just for fun when he was younger. He must have been so focused on getting up the tree that he didn’t realize that he wasn’t alone.
Looking around for the voice he seen Ash. ”Oh Hello there. Come on then.” He stopped and sat down on the branch he was standing on. Yep sturdy enough to sit on.

Ash scrambled upwards at a ridiculous pace and then settled on a branch right next to him. She felt like a big cat, lying in wait in a tree. Except for the part where that cat would jump out of the tree and eat people. Ash wasn’t planning on doing either of those things. She looked down. Ooh. It was a long way down. Good thing she wasn’t afraid of heights. She grinned as she looked over at Christian.”What are you doing up here?” Other than climbing obviously.

Daniel would have pointed out that he had just witnessed seeing her falling off of the tree. So her saying that he wasn't going to regret this was not reassuring at all.
He did not see the appeal of flying but that was probably because he was bad at it. Even going into the second year, he still had trouble doing some of the tricks they had learned during classes. He was good at speeding though, something his brother would be proud of.
"I like Transfiguration" he said. "And also Arithmancy" He pretended not to notice that she was slouching her figure in disappointment when he had not offered the girl some candy. He did not understand the concept of sharing food. Lisa once told him that she shared her food with her friends and so she had given him some of her candy during the train ride to Hogwarts. Remy, however, was not a friend.
And then he felt a hand grabbing his own and before he knew what was happening he was being dragged off. A red tint colour appeared on his cheeks but he was more annoyed than anything else. Before she had even dragged him to the first branch, Daniel had pried his hand loose from her grip. "I don't appreciate being dragged, you know" he put his hands deep in his robe pockets and then looked at where the Gryffindor was pointing at. "You go first"

If the footsteps headed her way didn't warn her that she was no longer alone, the loud voice certainly did. Be that as it may, Lia didn't bother to glance over her shoulder at them as she already knew by the voice who it was. "So which is it.. huge or big?" she teased playfully still staring up at the tree making a mental map of where the foot and hand holds were.
"Hey, Tadhg.. that was the plan. Just getting an idea of where to start." Since there was no way she was reaching even the lowest branch. Which meant she needed to do a bit of mapping. Adjusting her bag over her shoulder, she gently moved Sir Frederik Puffington into her bag where he would be safe.
Bright blue eyes shifted from the tree to the boyfriend and back to tree. "I'm going up," she flashed him a bright smile before moving forward and putting the toe of her sneaker on the lowest knot in the tree. Reaching a hand up she found a good spot to hold onto. Little by little she made her way up into the tree, being careful of where she put her hands and feet.

Remy was under the impression that Daniel was NOT taking to her. He was one of those students that she hadn’t really spoken to but just assumed that once they’d met, they’d be tight. She liked to build up her second year tribe.
Oooh, some common ground. “Cool! I really like Transfiguration as well.” She stopped herself from mentioning how well she did last term, because she was starting to read the room a little and Daniel PROBABLY didn’t care. “Are you good at Arithmancy? I think it’s one of my worst subjects.” Remy chuckled a little with a shrug of her shoulders. She was making a big effort here.
“Oh, sorry.” Remy scratched the back of her head as he pulled his hand back from hers. She felt severely embarrassed but didn’t think she had done anything wrong. It was becoming clear that she had to work on her people skills a bit more. She nodded calmly, toning back the enthusiasm, and she surveyed which step to take first.
She did, in fact, go for the first step that she had taken previously. Quickness in her step, Remy took another three steps, lifting her body swiftly up the tree. “See? It’s easy. Are you gonna wait for me to get to the top, or?” She wouldn’t be surprised if she made it to the top, looked down, and Daniel had ditched.
That would make her REALLY upset.

Christian watched as Ash quickly moved up the tree. He looked at her and grinned when she joined him on his branch. ”Comfy?” He asked with a chuckle and a light nudge with his elbow. Care not to hard, he didn’t want to knock her off the branch.
With a shrug he answered. ”Just exploring. I’ve never noticed this tree have you?” Survey the scenic views around them. They were up pretty high and could see a bunch of things.

Ash grinned. “Yes, I’m very comfy. You should try this.” She gave part of the tree a hug. “I think this tree likes hugs. You can always tell which trees don’t like hugs because those are the ones that give you a rash.” She laughed. Of course she knew that wasn’t really what was happening, but it was fun to pretend. Was it childish? A little, but Ashley Fox was a child and she wanted to spend the rest of her childhood having fun. Nobody could blame her for that.
“I’ve never seen this tree before either. It think it’s new.” Ash remembered everything. But then again, she hadn’t explored everywhere, so it could have been there forever and she just hadn’t noticed.
She stretched out. “How’s the start of your year been going?”

A question brought her out of her head and back to the moment at hand. She turned to her right and found an older, pretty girl addressing her. Oh! She had seen her around. She was a Gryffindor, wasnt she? Lisa nodded. “I would….” She paused, turning her gaze back to the tree as a smirk appeared on her lips. A wicked, wicked idea started blossoming in her mind… She looked back to the older girl with a mischievous grin.
