| | Room of Requirement Found on the seventh floor is a secret room known as the Room of Requirement or the Come and Go Room. This particular room is famous for transforming itself into whatever the witch or wizard that finds it needs at that moment in time. While many may have heard of this room, properly finding it is no easy task. Most come across it without even knowing during moments of great need and are unable to find it again.
However, those that are attentive to detail will remember that the hidden entrance to this enchanted room can be found opposite of the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy. Simply locate this depiction of a man attempting to teach trolls in pink tutus how to do the ballet and walk past it three times, clearly thinking about what you need. After a few moments, a door will appear and allow you entrance inside whatever room you desire at that moment in time. Just keep in mind that the room has its limitations -- you, unfortunately, won't be finding any food in here.

| for Ariana and Limpet Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight The Room of Requirement was not Nem's favourite place in the castle, at least not for personal endeavours - the kind of projects and pursuits they'd rather keep away from prying eyes. They had several theories about this place - some of them completely fabricated for a little fun back in the day - and most of them came back to the fact that it was impossible to be sure of its allegiance, because it was so fickle.
The Room served anyone who happened to come by it, and though Nem could think of several instructions to stop their chosen set-up from being found, they just didn't trust that it would hold to them. Could even be some sort of record kept, like a magical history, accessible to whoever wanted to know what the Room had been, if they had the authority or even just the skill to ask for it. It would be pure stupidity to think that the Headsman had no way of knowing about this Room or what went on in it; even if he didn't yet know it, there was no doubt some way of figuring it out.
So Nem only used the place for activities that weren't clandestine in nature, even if they preferred not to be interrupted. Tutoring sessions with Limpet fell into that category.
They'd arrived much earlier than they were due to meet Limpet, and asked the room for the usual: a simple, comfortable room fit for practicing spells. As ever, it provided a space that seemed more office or living room than classroom, with chairs and armchairs, cushions, a rug spread out on the floor, and shelves on the walls, some of which held books, some of which were empty, ready to provide what might be requested later.
Nem had brought a book of their own, and was sitting sideways in an armchair, long legs dangling over one arm as they perused the metallurgy text. As they turned a page, they glanced at their stolen watch. Still a few minutes yet.

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo The Room of Requirement wasn't Kinsay's favorite place in the castle either, at least not yet. She had only learned about it recently, through Nemesis, and even then, she hadn't taken the opportunity to use it to its full extent. She wanted more than anything to show it to her friends, but if she did, then she might have to explain how she found it... And she wasn't sure she wanted to be telling people about the tutoring sessions yet. It was a little embarrassing. More than just a little, even.
It was honestly a miracle that she somehow always came up with good excuses to slip away (never lies, but sometimes stretches of the truth), and even though she usually tried to be a few minutes early, she only made it just on time today. There was a lot of corridor traffic. The first years were especially rowdy this year, which was saying something!
After a quick check of her surroundings, Kinsay quietly slipped inside. She loved their set up, it made her feel less nervous about spellwork. It also helped that she enjoyed Nem's company. He was always so nice and patient with her - never leaving her to feel silly, which she appreciated so much more than anyone would ever know. Maybe he knew though. Kinsay had a feeling Nem knew lots of things - he's really smart. She could tell. Even before they started these sessions together. "Hi," she wore an eager smile as she moved to rest her arms and her head on the back of the armchair he was lounging in. "Whatcha reading?"

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight When the door opened, Nem glanced up to see Limpet, and smiled briefly back at her. "Hey." They knew she didn't like the idea of telling people about these tutoring sessions, and so they had followed suit and kept quiet too. It might have put them in a more favourable light - Nemesis Upstead tutoring a younger kid, free of charge, out of the greater goodness of their own heart - but keeping it under wraps for longer would ultimately have a greater benefit. At least, they thought so.
It helped that Limpet was not intolerable, and that her issues with magic had been a fun little problem for Nem to work on as well. The entertainment factor had not lasted long, but Nem's demeanour had not changed even then; they'd always been patient, friendly, and so very helpful. These tutoring sessions served a purpose for the both of them, and they often got to talking as well.
They closed the book so Limpet could see the title - Metal-Charming: A Compendium - and looked up. "Research. For something I'm working on."

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo Nem had a really nice smile. One of the nicest ones.
It helped Kinsay feel less terrible about her inability to perform even the simplest of spells. She usually felt really silly about this in front of other people, which is why she often refused to practice during class all together. It was her very practical solution to an otherwise difficult problem.
She leaned forward a little bit, peeking over the back of the armchair to get a better look at the cover of the book. "Metal-Charming. A Compendium," she read quietly, still looking at the title when Nem explained. "Is it interesting?" Though the question she really wanted to ask was regarding what he was working on. She could tell that might be incessant though and incessant was something Kinsay Cassandra James was trying really hard not to be.
And maybe she could ask about it while they practiced spells.

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight The million galleon question, as ever. Nem didn't answer right away, but looked at the front cover of the book as well. Was it interesting. "Here and there," they said, after a moment, opening the book up and flipping through some pages. "It's useful. And difficult, so, yes, I suppose that makes it interesting." Really, though, really it was the project itself that Nem's interest was drawn to, which they were making the most of until the moment that got boring as well. It would serve a purpose, so even once they knew it was possible and something they could complete, Nem would see it through to the end in order to move to the next step. They were not exactly willing to delegate. "You can ask about it, if you want. What I'm working on." Nem was no fool. They knew the kind of person Limpet was, and they knew that dangling the vaguest of information in front of her sparked a kind of curiosity she struggled to ignore. All it took was a little observation in classes, this year and last (and especially the first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson this term), to know that this business of being considered incessant played on the kid's mind. Helping, see? Nem dog-eared the corner of their page and set the book aside, looked at Limpet again. "Is there anything in particular you want to work on today? Anything from your classes you want to focus on?" Otherwise, they could improvise. Nem was good at that.

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo She wasn't looking at the book anymore, though her gaze did move to it once again when Nem flipped through its pages. Useful and difficult. Oh. Kinz usually just relied upon whether she liked something in order to decide whether or not it was interesting. Useful and difficult didn't have much to do with it, but .... maybe it ought to, so she nodded pretending to know. Maybe next time she looked for a book, she'd try to find one that was useful and difficult too. "Really?" Her voice clearly gave way to her surprise as she took a small step back from the armchair. She had been trying to resist the question. Really, really. But the invitation was all she needed for the curiosity to take over in full. Smiling now, she clasped her hands behind her back. "What kind of project is it?" One that had to do with metal charming, probably. But Kins was more interested in the why and the what for.
In any case, she'd much rather talk about what Nem was working on and delay their practice session as long as possible. Not because she didn't want to learn things, but because her sensitive. hazel wand had been giving her a really hard time lately and she didn't want to look silly in front of Nem. It was so embarrassing. How was it possible that she had gotten even worse at magic?! It wasn't fair. She practiced so much and nothing seemed to make her wand want to work properly! And yet Mr. Victor wouldn't give her a new one.
Even though she begged and everything.
It was hopeless.
So when Nem asked her about what she wanted to practice for the day, Kinsay wilted a little bit. "Um." ............

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight "Really," Nem replied, pushing to their feet and crossing the room to the shelves holding the books. For inspiration purposes. They waited until Limpet did indeed ask, then glanced back and smiled again. "I'm making a pensieve. Or a kind of pensieve, I suppose, depending on how I can modify it." Like they weren't already fairly certain exactly what they were doing, and how. "I have a stone prototype, but I want to make the final one out of metal. Helps to know that stuff." Obviously.
They'd gone back to inspecting the books on the shelves, but now turned properly back to Limpet and considered her for a moment, just a moment, their gaze lowkey intense but not unpleasant. Just very... Nemesis. "Summoning Charm? Reductor Curse?" Both slightly higher than Limpet's year level, but Nem didn't see why that should have to mean anything. It didn't seem to be her magical ability that was the issue, but channelling it. Which meant it would be the same no matter which spell they tried. But they threw in an easier option as well. "Disarming Charm, maybe? Anything you like." Except clearly Limpet did not like, and clearly it was time to figure out exactly what was the issue causing this magical block of hers. They'd held off on pressing the issue at first, until they could gauge things, but her progress would be exponential once they addressed it. And of course Nem believed they could do exactly that, with the right approach.

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo Whenever Nem smiled, Kins couldn't help but smile a little bit too. There weren't many people who encouraged her questions. Most people got mad or made her feel silly or called her incessant. That's why she was making efforts to hold back. She didn't want to be incessant. She really, really didn't. Incessant was the word people used when they wanted to write her off, and if there is one thing Kinsay really didn't like, it was exactly that. Being written off made her feel like she didn't belong.
Maybe that's why she liked Nem so much. He never made her feel like she was being incessant. And even though he knew so much more than she did, he didn't make her feel silly either. The way he answered her questions made her feel good, not weird or like they didn't matter or like she didn't belong or couldn't be part of the conversation.
So she stood quietly, watching him with respect. "Wow," she managed, all sorts of impressed and maybe a little warm and fuzzy too. She always felt that way when he trusted her with information. "Is metal better for pensieves?" There was something else she wanted to ask, but even Kinsay could tell when questions might be too intrusive. See? She was getting a hang of this not-being-incessant thing. Someone please tell Headmaster Trent.
She shifted a little uncomfortably under Nem's intense gaze, but only because she couldn't come up with a spell she really wanted to learn. But the feeling quickly dissolved when he began listing off suggestions, ones that were so clearly far beyond her casting abilities. "You really think I can learn the Summoning Charm?" Kins knew it was a fourth year spell because sometimes she liked to read ahead of what she was supposed to. Over the summer, when she was really bored, she'd even sneak into Teddy's room and flip through some his textbooks. It was fun to memorize spells, she'd make games of it. But knowing a spell and performing a spell were two very different things.

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight "That's generally up for debate, I think. Both have pros and cons; stone is traditional, and considered better for runes, but it's easier. Metal is durable, arguably resistant to interference, and harder to get right." The way they said it, the difficulty was clearly part of the appeal. Not to have a contradictory nature or anything, but Nem enjoyed making things more difficult for themselves just as much as they liked finding the easiest possible route. "I'll let you know what I think once I've seen for myself."
Because, naturally, there was not a doubt in Nem's mind that they could do it. Not to mention, keeping Limpet informed and included would only be beneficial.
Speaking of. "I really do," they said simply. "Technically it's listed as a fourth year spell, but only because someone decided that. All we need to do is push through this block of yours, and you'll be able to learn any spell. With the right teacher, at least." Even pushing through it one spell at a time would work, and was sort of the method so far, but it was much easier (and much more difficult) to deal with the entire obstacle at once. "Let's do Summoning Charms," Nem added decisively, turned back to the shelves, and took down a box that had not been there a moment ago, and was full of small feathers that might have otherwise constituted the guts of a pillow. "It's a useful one to know."
