On a lovely Thursday afternoon, Professor June is waiting inside Greenhouse Three for you - all the while tending to her colour changing roses and enjoying a cup of tea.
Your work stations have all been set up, a curious potted plant rests in the middle. The plant itself seems dormant, and a note next to it says: Do Not Touch........not yet least.
OOC: HELLO! And welcome back to Herbology. Hope you have read the rules, if not - please do so before posting. Class will begin soon <3
Violet had finally gotten her plant to wake up, and it reacted much like she did when she didn't want to wake up in the morning--in other words, in a poisonous mood. She hastily pulled back her hands to avoid the snapping frenzy the plant had gone into, then, collecting herself, pointed her wand at the thing and cried, "Stupefy!"
Violet stepped back and surveyed the result--yes, the spell worked on plants as well as it did on people! Now, to de-fang it--wait, were they supposed to use magic for that, or...a pair of pliers or something?

Apollo hadn't really been sure how he felt about herbology yet. Although Professor Flamsteed seemed cool, so that part was okay, but the subject itself? He was indifferent over. Just like he was indifferent about the first question talking about difficult plants? Was it weird if he kind of wanted the dangerous plants? It definitely made working with plants more interesting then say .... watering flowers.
So they were ... poking the pot? Weird? Wouldn't that be dangerous for the plant inside? What if they poked too hard and the pot shattered and dirt was everywhere? This was definitely confusing and the second year glanced around to see what his classmates were doing first.
Stunning the plant. Uh. Definitely weird. And confusing. He tilted his head as he surveyed his own plant before him, gently prodding it with his wand. Cause if it bit, he wasn't sure he wanted it to bite his finger. "Stupefy." He cast. So now time to de-fang? How did one do that exactly? Was there a spell?

Well, that was to be expected. The plant was now biting her finger, but Ash wasn't mad. She had provoked it, soooo... she just sorta left her hand there and raised her other one. "How come we have to stun and defang it? Why can't we just, y'know..." she looked at her hand. It had a glove on it, and she didn't feel any pain. So what was the problem? Why be mean to a plant when this was clearly her fault? "If it's biting my hand it can't bite other plants." Problem solved.
This plant was kinda cute. AND COOL, BECAUSE IT HAD TEETH. Respect.
June gave Miss Fox a dry look. "Because it's the assignment, Miss Fox. Unless you want to fail the class, I suggest you try and do as told"

Claudine suddenly had the fear that the plant would have its fangs sink through her thick dragonhide gloves. Was that possible?
Um… what was it that Flamsteed had said on how to deal with these little vampires? Right. Stunning. With her free hand, Claudine aimed her dragon heartstring wand at the plant. “Stupefy!’’ Would the little guy be knocked out? Oh, and she had a question.
“Um… professor, what’s the best way to defang them? Like, a particular spell? Switching the fangs with something less dangerous?”

"Oh!" she exclaimed with a actual giggle. Yup, the young Ravenclaw giggled as it chomped down on gloved finger. "Well that doesn't hurt." Good thing for the glove otherwise she was sure it would have been painful but right now it didn't hurt a bit. "You don't mean no harm, do you? You're only doing what you're meant to do, aren't you, Audrey?"
Since Audrey was pretty occupied with her finger, stunning him shouldn't be all that hard, right? Dahlia managed to reach for her wand and wrap her fingers firmly around it. "Professor? Rather than defanging him.. can I keep him?" He wouldn't be able to harm any other plants from in her dorm. "Couldn't we just move them all somewhere else.. away from other plants so we don't have to defang them?" That could also solve the issue, right? However she was sure that Flamsteed wasn't going to agree to that today since this was a lesson.
So yes, how did they go about the defanging process? She nodded her head along with Claudine's question.
"Good work, Miss Blaze" June commented as she passed the girl's station. "I am afraid - this needs to be done manually, Miss Blaze. Gently open it's leaves and pluck them out. They are baby teeth - so it won't be that hard to pluck"
As for Dahlia, June thought she knew better than this. "There nature is to grow around healthy plants, you can take this one away - but others will grow in it's place"

Suppose she should be grateful that the thing hadn’t gotten near her fingers yet.
Frowning a little at her failed attempt to poke the plant without getting something nipped, Remy quietened to listen to the next instruction, although didn’t feel too prepared to just stun the baby vampire plant. Did she even know how to stun something????! Did she want to stun the poor thing?
The Gryffindor picked up her wand again and resumed her position of pointing it at the plant. “Stu… st… stupefyyyy…” SHOCK - it didn’t work. She put her wand down instantly, all embarrassed.
When June walked over to Remy's station, she stood there quietly for a bit. It was always best if students attempted things on their own first. Always. How else would they learn?
But when the young girl continued to struggle, June spoke up, giving the girl's shoulder a gentle squeeze "a firmer hand, Miss Gaeltheos. But first - take a moment to just breathe, and then try again"

Thankfully for the Herbology professor, his plant's reaction to the quill was more than enough to pull the second year's attention away from his puffy cheeked disappointment and right smack back into amusement. "Woooow...wicked!" he exclaimed as his quill was massacred. His fingers, and hand, were retracted just before they could suffer the same fate...and then he was looking around for something else to tempt the plant with. He would have just taken Aries' quill...but he already knew the conclusion to that and therefore it was a rather boring experiment. What about....ooooh! That spade might produce something interesting.
Spade in hand (Stunning Spell, what?), Atlas leaned forward again and tried to poke the stem with the tip of it. Tearing through feathers was one thing, but metal? Totally different and he was curious how the vampiric plant would fare.

The nip reminded him a bit of Rey (his cat, not the Star Wars character), though she usually preferred biting noses and ears to fingers.
Then he realized this plant reminded him of another Star Wars-related creature, someone else small and adorable who was known to bite fingers on occasion. He overheard Professor Flamsteed tell Dahlia that she could name the plant. Could he name it too? He had the perfect name! As far as he was concerned, the plant would henceforth be known as Grogu.
He saw the baby plant - Grogu open wide, but he reacted too late and felt the bite on his hand. Okay, that one did pinch a bit! Those teeth didn't break through his groove, did they? "Hey! I'm not a snack," he scolded gently. Well, at least maybe biting his hand would keep Grogu calm while he stunned and defanged him… he hoped! Not that he particularly wanted to do either, but he wasn't one to go against a professor's directions. Speaking of which, how did he remove the fangs? The only thing he could think of was to try to vanish them, which would be hard to do if he was being bitten. He overheard Claudine ask about defanging and looked to Professor Flamsteed, awaiting the answer. While he waited for instructions on the defanging process, he supposed he could still go ahead and stun Grogu.
"Such a cute little plant," he said. "Yes, you are!" As he kept whispering calming words, he gripped his wand in his free hand, trying to conceal it in his sleeve so as not to scare little Grogu. He decided to try the spell nonverbally, lest the incantation somehow tip off or startle the plant. Stupefy, he thought, aiming his wand. As he cast, he envisioned Grogu going unconscious with every ounce of concentration he had. Did it work?
...
Why Atlas, why?
Fortunately though, before she could try and make Atlas understand why that was a bad idea - she noticed Heath Jones - and what a good job he was doing. As always.
"Atlas, before you kill another one of my plants, why don't you work with Mr Jones" she quickly said, "I think he can help you. Won't you, Mr Jones?" she said, looking at the older boy. Favourite student with favourite nephew. What could go wrong? It was genius.

Nope! Not today, baby Vampire!!
She even jumped out of her chair to give her enough space (granted, the plant couldn’t move so she perhaps looked a little silly doing this). Lisa folded her arms across her chest, studying said plant further before leaning in again to poke it. Maybe….. She scanned the room to see what the other students were doing. Some were casting the Stunning spell, Heath looked like he was letting the plant nibble on him, and Atlas was about to attack said plant with a spade? There were a variety of ideas that popped into her head buuuut she wasn’t entirely sure which was the best option.
Tip toeing back to her station, Lisa slowly moved her hand towards the plant and began patting it gently. “You are getting very, very sleepy,” she said in a monotone voice, hopping to lull the plant into boredom. Maybe she could make it fall asleep? She kept on doing this until she grabbed her wand and gently said, “Stupefy!”

Pointer finger straight and steady, Serena poked the vampire plant. There. POKE.
As expected, the plant gave a jolt and snapped at her. Serena smirked at it. "You lack the element of surprise," she said to it. Then without warning, she swiftly cast, "Stupefy!"
Surprise.

Giving everyone a look over, June moved back to her own station. Once again tapping her pot to get everyone's attention, June pulled out her own wand. "Alright, good work so far, everyone. I know stunning is not an easy spell, those of you who managed it - well done, and those of you still trying - don't worry, you'll get there" Nobody needed to feel bad about anything - it was all trial and error, unless you had a spade ready to kill a plant.
Looking at you, Atlas Flamsteed.
"Almost all of you have reached the defanging process, which is simple really - especially since this is a baby plant. The mature ones won't be as easy" she warned as she poked and then stunned her own plant in front of her. Pulling apart the leaves gently, she then slowly pulled out a fang and then another. "See, easy as picking flowers - but no - never do that, let the flowers be"
Okay, moving on.
"Once you have defanged your plants, please follow me to the vegetation patch at the back - we will repot these baby plants there, and try to defang as many rouge plants as possible over there!"
Picking up her own defanged plant, June then made her way over to the patch - TRYING not to frown at the mess all the vampiric vegetation had made over there. Following the simple process of planting the plant in the ground, June then looked back at the students. "Only way to reveal the rascals is by poking - so ....poke away" she added, whilst poking a few in the process - here and there, and then suddenly one opened up - revealing much sharper teeth than the baby plants they had been working on, but before it would do anything more - June stunned the little thing.
"Poke. Stun. Defang. Simple enough, yeah? Lets get a move on then"
OOC: Thank you so much for being with me so far guys. This is the main activity. June will be around for any questions and help needed! Enjoy!!

“Thank you, professor,’’ Claudine said happily. Flamsteed received a beam and then a nod. Manually… the sixth year wasn’t afraid to do so but was worried about how long the little plants would take to be defanged. Surely they wouldn’t go down without putting up a fight. She watched Flamsteed intently as the woman demonstrated. It all looked simple enough.
The Snakette carefully took one of the leaves and began to unfurl it. Using her gloved hand, she began to pluck out the fang. The process was repeated until there was a tiny pile of fangs on her workstation. And don’t worry, no flowers were picked.
Standing back a bit, Claudine eyed the little plant. It seemed that she had gotten all the fangs. The pot was grabbed and she took off, following Flamsteed. Defanging rogue plants? Um...
Pretty fortunate they'd already practiced the Stunning Spell in another class this year, Violet thought to herself as she gently pried open her plant's leaves and plucked out the tiny fangs. No more biting for him!
Then, carefully carrying the still-stunned baby plant, she followed Professor Flamsteed to the vegetation patch, but abruptly halted when she saw the size of the fang on one of the plants the professor had poked. Wait, had she said "rogue" plants? What were they getting themselves into now?

Lisa was surprised that the stunning spell had worked.
Woohoooo!
Now her priority was figuring out how to defang said plant. Fortunately Claudine was already at work so she watched the sixth year and followed the monkey see, monkey do principle. She started doing the exact movements that Claudine was doing in hopes of getting to defang her plant. She did it, of course, in her own Lisa Nam fashion by cooing to the plant.
Tickle. Tickle. “Alright,” she spoke to it, coaxing it gently.

Caught you, Lisa Nam.
Claudine winked at the younger Ravenclaw having recognised that the girl was copying what was being done. The Snakette didn’t mind. It sort of flattered her that she was being looked to as an example. She paused in her tracks of following Flamsteed, pot in hand. However, her attention was back on Lisa.
“Need any help, Lisa?” If the younger girl did, then helping her would be practice as well for Claudine.

Hmmmpppthhh… she often got frustrated when she couldn’t get spells right in a short period of time. She looked up at the squeeze on her shoulder, and the words of encouragement from Professor Flamsteed were really helpful. Remy smiled and nodded in response and picked her wand back up to try again. AHEM.
Biiiiig breath…
“Stupefy!”
Half expecting it not to have worked, probably just the baby vampire plant getting tired of her, Remy opened her mouth to speak again before realising the plant looked pretty still and stunned. She had done it! Remy glanced to the Professor, waiting for approval. Or praise, probably.
She wasted no time during the next process, because she was nervous about her stunning spell not lasting long. She pulled the fangs out very gently. Awww, she felt bad for the lil guy.

Apollo hadn't really been paying too much attention to his peers, focused instead on this plant, which was probably a good thing he hadn't noticed his dormmate feeding the vampire plant his quill? Yea, definitely a good thing Apollo didn't notice that.
He glanced up at Professor Flamsteed about the defanging process with intrigue. So it would be easier tasks today because they were babies. Adult plants - like humans - had their roots planted already and it made things more challenging. That made a lot of sense, since he knew from his older family and friends how stubborn one could get with age.
OH! That was why they were poking! Cause if they poked the plant and it didn't snap awake, it wasn't a baby vampire plant. That made sense now. Still using his wand to do the poking, he gently poked it, quickly moving it out of the way, in case it got hold of his wand. He didn't need a broken wand. Sure enough, the plant sprung to life, as if to say 'who woke me from this slumber'. Having practiced the stunning spell, the second year quickly cast "Stupefy", rendering the plant motionless.
Setting his wand beside the plant, he gently pulled the leaves apart to wiggle one fang out and then another. Wait, what had the Professor said about flowers? Don't pick the flowers? Why weren't they supposed to pick the flowers?
"Professor, what happens to the fangs? Do they just get thrown away? Or are they useful in something else? Potions? Necklaces?" Didn't muggles like doing something with elephant tusks except that was a cruel task? Was it kind of the same thing here?

Oof, caught red handed….
She flushed pink (she didn’t know why but something about someone older than her catching her made her pink) and offered Claudine a big slightly sheepish smile. “Yes please!! How do you know what to do? Tickling it worked and then the Stunning Spell but defanging it sounds painful….” she explained to the older girl.

Lisa and her pink face and sheepish smile need not worry. Being caught in this case was no big deal, especially since Claudine liked her. The older girl set back down her pot on her workstation then moved over to Lisa.
"I don't think it'll be painful. But maybe that's one of the reasons we Stunned them?" It'll be something that Claudine would need to remember to ask Flamsteed later. "Okay, so now that your plant is Stunned, just take one of the leaves, unfurl it like this..." She demonstrated. "Then simply pluck the the fang out." Claudine did exactly that. "Now you give it a try."

As Claudine moved closer to her, the little Ravenclaw’s smile grew bigger. It was nice to have someone offer to help you out especially if you weren’t too too sure of what came next. The instructions made sense but actually trying to defang the plant seemed a rather daunting task. She nodded at Claudine’s remark of the defanging not hurting the plant. Perhaps the Stunning spell of was a way of stopping the thing from hurting…. Did it feel pain or did the plant only thirst like it’s namesake?
She nodded again at the instruction before mimicking Claudine’s action with unfurling the plant and then gently removing the fang. Pluck! It came quicker than she had expected and she turned back to Claudine with a smile. “I did it!”
Plant now stunned, Serena moved its leaves around and reached for a baby fang, and plucked it out. It was an easy process, really. She wasn't afraid of hurting the plant. Like the professor had said, they don't have a fully formed brain. They react based on their survival instinct. So, she didn't really understand why students worried so much about hurting the plant.
Setting down the fang, Serena reached for the remaining fangs and plucked them off. Pluck, pluck, pluck. The process was peaceful. Would be a lot more peaceful if she was alone.
After the professor explained the next set of instructions, Serena took her now fang-less plant and set out to repot it with the other growing baby vampire plants.
Raspberry Jam | #ChocolateFrogFamous | Ultimate Fangirl
Once she had pulled the first fang, the others came pretty quickly afterwards, mostly because she wanted to get it over with. Her attention was sparked when Apollo asked if the fangs would be kept for a purpose after being removed, and she was interested for two reasons. 1) she was trying to get better at potions, and learning about potential ingredients would be helpful. 2) the older Gryffindor was a bit of a cutie.
AnyWAy…
Remy was done! Grinning at her accomplishment, she picked her baby, toothless vampire plant up and carried it to the vegetation patch, as instructed. She would name it Dracula and would visit it every day!

Once the questions were out of her mouth, she felt silly. This was stuff she knew. Herbology was her thing just like creatures. Of course these plants would keep growing back even if they were removed from the problem area. The very same way it was in their nature to bite things. She knew this stuff, honestly she did. Yet, for whatever reason she had felt the need to ask anyhow.
"Yes, Professor," Dahlia answered quietly. There was nothing else to say on the matter. None of the plants would be getting moved. Only defanged. "Sorry, Audrey, I tried.." Nothing more could be done. At least little Audrey wouldn't feel any pain during the defanging process. "This will only take a moment and you won't feel a thing. Then you can go on living your happy little plant life.."
With her wand in hand she aimed it at her plant. "Stupefy." And nothing. Obviously. She hadn't exactly been trying very hard to cast the spell anyhow. It was one of the ones she had been working on getting better at, so she did know how to cast it. Sometimes. When the full intent was there, which right now it wasn't. Lia sighed. Closing her eyes she cleared her thoughts and tried to focus. This is what was best for the plants. "Stupefy!" This time she really set out to stun Audrey. There was a flash of red light from the tip of her wand and then nothing else from her baby vampire plant.
"Welp.. here goes nothing.." she muttered under her breath. Reaching out a hand, Lia carefully moved the leaves apart in search of each tiny little sharp pointy tooth. One by one, she pulled each tooth free very gently setting them on her worktable. It wasn't as difficult as it sounded but she was still taking every precaution possible to prevent any harm being done to Audrey.

As if by instinct, Claudine could sense that Lisa had questions concerning the plant. In any case, Ravenclaws quizzed almost everything, right? Not to mention there was Heath and the Ravenclawness about him which Claudine had grown accustomed to. Aloud she said, “I think you should ask Flamsteed all your questions before you leave today.’’
The girl stood back to watch Lisa do her thing. She couldn’t complain, the younger girl was definitely following the instructions. “You did! Well done!” Claudine beamed. “When you’re done, we should catch up with the professor.” Not that Claudine was in any hurry; she just wanted to make sure Lisa had gotten all the fangs out.

Before long, Lia had gently defanged Audrey. "There. Done. I'll be right back.. I need to help Professor Flamsteed for a few minutes." Yes, she was telling her plant what she was doing. And no, she didn't care at all what anyone thought.
Leaving Audrey there on her workstation, wand in hand, Dahlia headed out of the greenhouse to where Flamsteed was tending to an older plant. Poke. Stun. Defang. The same exact instructions as before. She could handle this.
The second year reached out and poked at one of the larger vampire plants. Poke, poke, poke. Wakey, wakey! It was time to get up! As soon as there was any movement from the plant and sharp teeth were visible, she aimed her wand at it. "Stupefy!" There was no time wasted in stunning this larger bitey one. Best to get the task at hand done and over with.
Carefully she parted the leaves, unfurling them enough to expose sharp fang like teeth. One by one gently pulling them free.

The repotting bit was the simpler of tasks, and after that was done, Serena wandered over to the spot of snapping baby vampire plants. She poked here and there, and stopped when she found a specially snappy plant. It's fangs tore at the air as it tried to get Serena's wand.
"No, no," she chastised. "Do not touch my wand." Or it'd get a boot in the face.
Serena watched it curiously as it kept trying to snap at her. How many potions were the fangs used it? That was something she'd have to look into. Would the professor allow them to keep some of the fangs? Hmm. She'll have to ask later.
"Stupefy," she cast. But just as she had, the plant moved, completely dodging the spell. Serena huffed. "Stupefy."
Dammit. There. Freeze.
And now for the fang extraction for plant number two.

Claudine just got her, y’know?
There were times where you met a kindred spirit and they just understood. Lisa felt that way with few of the older students but the ones she shared it with- just got it. They knew her need to be curious. “I will,” she nodded in agreement. Lisa wouldnt forget it. Questions were important to better herself and her own knowledge.
The encouragement made her beam and continue her work more. Before she knew it, the plant was thoroughly defanged. “Thanks!” she nodded to the sixth year before looking around to see what the next thing to do was.
Vampire plants had been Morgan's introduction to flesh eating plants from his herbologist dad - under very supervised conditions - so he was familiar with the process of defanging them. And baby ones were a piece of cake.
Once he finished defanging the baby vampire plant at his table, Morgan carried the pot in one arm and followed Professor Flamsteed towards the vegetation behind the greenhouse. It was too bad he couldn't keep it, fangs and all, on his bedside table, but he diligently began digging a nice little spot for the plantling.
More plants though? He wiped his hands on his trousers then picked up his wand again. Morgan poke, poke, poked his wand all through the vegetation, looking for another snappy little plant.

Claudine stuck around with much Hufflepuff-like patience, watching keenly should Lisa need anymore help. You know… should the Stunning Charm choose to wear off a little early. Yet there need not be any worry; Lisa had one hundred percent success. “You’re welcome. Come on, grab your pot and let’s go over to Flamsteed.” The sixth year grabbed her own and led the way.
First they needed to replant the defanged baby, right? Claudine selected a spot - not far from Morgan - and manually began digging a suitable hole. Once done, she set her trowel down. Carefully removing the plant from the pot, it was stuck the little vampire plant into the hole. It was then covered with soil.
Violet spent a lot of time finding just the right spot for her de-fanged baby vampire plant, but she felt very satisfied with the spot she found. She manually dug a hole, because it helped her vent her frustrations about the school year by stabbing the earth with a sharp trowel, but when it came time to lift the little plant into its new home, she was careful to be gentle. After she tapped the earth into place around the plant, she sat back to survey her work. Nice!
She picked up her trowel and was about to go over to Professor Flamsteed to do the next bit, but then it occurred to her that she ought to un-Stun the little thing, so she turned and cast a quick “Rennervate!” at her little plant, and then stayed a moment longer to make sure it was up and moving again before she headed off.

She was quite pleased with her work. Rather chuffed, you might say. She puffed out her chest and BEAMED! Ha! This wasn’t that hard….. okay! It had been hard to visualize it but with the guidance of a fellow peer- it was HELPFUL.
Lisa offered Claudine a smile, nodding at the suggestion to go over to repot the plant. “Mhmm!”
She then followed Claudine like a little duckling after grabbing her own plant. She settled close enough to Claudine before fetching her own notebook to see what would be next.
