At the top of a tall, winding staircase you will find yourself greeted by the enchanted, bronze knocker’s riddle. Once you answer it correctly, the door to the Ravenclaw common room will open, revealing a wide, circular room with arched windows along each wall. Decorating the many windows are long, blue and bronze silks that compliment the midnight blue carpet covered in stars. If you look up, you’ll see the domed ceiling reflecting this starry carpet (look carefully enough and you may even see a twinkle or two).

The Ravenclaw common room is one of the airiest rooms in Hogwarts, but the fresh air is nothing compared to the incredible view from the windows of the tower. Take a look outside and you’ll see the best view of Hogwarts! Our tower overlooks the school grounds: the lake, the Forbidden Forest, the Quiddich pitch, the herbology gardens, and the beautiful Scottish mountains. And in the evening, you’re met with a view of the beautiful night sky.

The room is furnished with tables, chairs, and bookcases, if you’re in need of a place to study. If you’re looking for a place to relax, the most comfortable sofas and armchairs are facing the inviting fireplace. There’s never a shortage of natural light shining through the windows, but there are also several lamps on all of the various tables. The dormitories are in turrets off the main tower, and by the door leading up to them, there stands a tall, marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw.

While the tower itself holds an air of sophistication, it is simultaneously quite inviting and warm. So, welcome in! Make yourself at home.

After a long night...extremely long in this case, you are finally allowed back to your common rooms. Nothing sounds better than a good night's sleep to put it all behind you. However, it doesn't appear anyone will be getting much sleep tonight.

A trip up or down to the dorms will reveal the rooms all ransacked. There isn't a single trunk that hasn't been run right through. Curiously, any and all mirrors have been taken. The fireplace has also been sealed away.

Whoever did this has gone through the entire common room and removed any means of communication with the outside world.

At least the roast was delicious at dinner.

Ash checked her belongings frantically, checking to make sure there was nothing incriminating in there. Thank GOODNESS she didn't keep important stuff in her trunk. It was all in her shoes. SHE wasn't going to bed tonight. Instead, she sat at the steps to the girl's dormitory, just in case. No way was Ash gonna be murdered in her sleep. She took some deep breaths. Keeping a watch was what she should do. She drew a phoenix on her wrist. Just because she was deathly afraid of the creepy awful people holding them hostage didn't mean she had to do everything they wanted.

After the feast, Quinn entered the common room with the rest of the Ravenclaws. His eyes were puffy and red, and the remnants of tears stained his cheeks—once the initial fear had worn off, Quinn had resorted to crying. When he was done crying, he felt numb. He was nervous about coming to Hogwarts, but he had never expected anything like this. But, if this is happening here, it's probably not safe other places either, is it? He had so many thoughts running through his head that it felt like his brain short circuited, and now he couldn't think at all.

If these were regular circumstances, Quinn would probably be elated with the common room. Comfy sofas. Big fireplace. Beautiful view. Pretty ceiling. But right now, the room felt foreign, unwelcoming and dreary. Everything did, in fact.

Quinn found his things in the boy's dormitory. They were obviously rifled through, but he didn't have the emotional bandwidth to care at the moment. He simply took out his pajamas and changed into them. He looked over at his bed. No, he thought. He went back out into the common room and sat on one of the sofas, pulling his knees up to his chin and hugging them. And he sat.

The sleep that was sure to follow the welcoming feast would no doubt be beyond dreadful for the black haired second year Ravenclaw. If her eyes were red and sore from crying before, it was nothing compared to how they were going to be after the first night was over. Ransacked and pillaged, her trunk lay open ajar on her bed as all of her belongings were thrown asunder.

Running over towards her bed, she quickly rummaged through her belongings searching and hoping for her two-way mirror that her da had bought her before she left for Hogwarts but it had gone. Stolen. Without even bothering to tidy up her things, she wandered back down stairs and into the Ravenclaw common room and past Ashley without even a murmur and headed straight over to the window seat that would allow her to look over the school grounds. She may have been dead on her feet but she wasn’t about to sleep. Not yet. Sure, she knew her brothers and sisters were okay but tonight wasn’t the kind of night that one would usually sleep alone.

What a relief it was to finally arrive at Ravenclaw tower. The common room and dorm rooms would be such a comfort right now, even if they'd still have to leave and attend classes tomorrow. Ivy wasn't sure how much sleep she would actually get, but...

But...

Merlin.

Not even their dorms and trunks were safe. Feeling the color drain from her face, she hurried over to her own trunk, hoping that everything was still there...

Her two-way mirror was missing. They'd stolen it. She... She felt like she should've seen this coming - obviously everyone would want to contact someone outside to let them know what was going on, and obviously these creeps wouldn't want that. They probably had people watching the owls and reading every letter they sent out too.

They were smart, and it made her so angry.

Quickly shoving all her things back into her trunk and locking it - not that it mattered - she grabbed her pillow and headed back down to the common room. Normally she loved staying in her dorm with her dormmates, but the safety and comfort of it had been shattered tonight.

It seemed a few of the younger Ravenclaws felt the same. She carefully stepped around Ashley at the foot of the girls' stairs and took a seat in one of the cushy armchairs that she liked, arms wrapped tight around her pillow.

"Common room slumber party?" she said, though without the enthusiasm a normal slumber party would entail, glancing at Ingrid and the first year boy whose name she hadn't caught during the feast. There was nothing fun about this like there should be at a party, and she doubted there would be a lot of sleeping, but still...safety in numbers, yeah?

Ash looked up. "A slumber party is probably safer. I was planning on keeping a watch and not sleeping, but on second thought, this is better for sanity." She looked back down. She pulled out a piece of paper, and drew a good stylized phoenix on it. "This is like us." She held up the paper. Phoenixes. They were comforting. She wrote at the bottom in green pen, "Phoenixes rise from ashes and keep going". Green was the color of rebirth and resilience. Ash was all about the symbolism today. She pulled a muggle hard candy out of her pocket. The only good thing about the possibility of dying tomorrow was that it didn't matter if you got no sleep or ate unhealthy food. Ash had learned that somewhere.

Quinn glanced at the girl, a momentary smile coming across his face. It was kind of like a slumber party. He had never been to one. He had never been invited, but he didn't know that his parents would let him, anyway.

The momentary solace he took in the idea of a sleepover was dashed from Ashley's comment. Keeping watch. Better for sanity. It brought his mind back to the situation at hand. He averted his gaze towards the floor, his smile dropping as he shifted uncomfortably.

Ash brought it back with the phoenixes, though. "We're phoenixes. But we're Ravenclaws," he mumbled, "We're like, uh... Ravenixes. Or, um... Phoevens." He chuckled at his nonsensical banter. He had to remind himself he was safe, for now. Safe enough to be silly.

The feast had been way to long. On any other day, Lia loved sitting around with tons of people, chatting away and eating. Not tonight though. That entire feast had been miserable... scary... and just all kinds of wrong.

Making her way slowly into the common room behind all the other Claws, she looked around quietly. It was very much as her big brother had described to her. Like many of the others she went to find her dorm and all her belongings only to find a huge mess. What had happened in here?!

Dahlia quickly gathered up everything that was hers, going through all of her things. Her two-way mirror was missing. She had wrapped it up safely in a blanket from home and tucked it away in her trunk... and now it was gone! Tears had filled her eyes as she was met with confusion and fear from her siblings whose things were a mess as well.

Still sniffling, she made her way back to the common room where several others had already gathered. She sat down on one of the couches, curling up against the arm rest as she listened to what was being said, something about a Slumber Party. Sticking together sounded like the best option they all had right now.

It wasn't weird that people didn't go straight to sleep on the first night. But as Coby made his way back down from the fifth year dorms - fifth, even after everything that had happened in the feast this was still strange to him - his shoulders slumped at the dark cloud hanging over all of them. The Neo Alliance weren't in here (they had been before, of course, he didn't think his things had ransacked themselves), perhaps they could cheer themselves up for a little while.

"What's a phoeven?" the fifth year asked as he joined the little gathering, feeling strangely... large. Not many his age yet, maybe they'd join later. He picked a spot by the fire to lean against the wall, leaving the couches for the younger years tonight.

Quinn was still laughing a bit to himself as the others entered the common room. He glanced at the boy who asked the question. "Um, it's.... us. Phoenixes. Ravenclaws. Um... Phoevens..?" Quinn couldn't explain it well. It took the fun out of the word. Now it just sounded stupid. "Sorry, that was... dumb..." he said, his voice getting smaller as he hugged his knees tighter and looked back down at the floor.

Ash smiled at Quinn. Humor. They all needed it. She looked at Coby, a newish arrival to the slumber party. "Phoeven is a name I think. But Quinn made it up because of my drawing. Like ravens and phoenixes or something." She drew a raven superimposed on the phoenix. "It's not dumb, Quinn. It's an interesting art concept." Dude needed to believe in his own ideas. "It looks all cool and stuff now."

Eden really, really, really, really needed to relax. Seeing her belongings rifled through and WRINKLED had enraged her to an unexpected degree; now she stood silently shaking, fuming, ready-to-punch-something mad in the center of the first year girls' dormitory. She'd always had a bit of trouble managing her anger.

But she didn't want an incident. Didn't want to be known as "that kid" within her first 24 hours at school. This too shall pass, right? Okay. Okay. Deeeeeep breaths.

1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...9...8...7 ...6...5...4...3...2...1...okay. Okaaaay.

Eden took several minutes to compose herself, changed into leggings and an oversized sweater, grabbed a random notebook and pen, and counted one more time before going back down to the commonroom. She saw Quinn and Ash near the stairs and sat next to Quinn on the sofa. "Are we all down here plotting the revolution?" she half-joked.

Quinn smiled at Ash, appreciative for her attempt to validate him. The drawing was pretty cool. "Thanks, Ash..."

Quinn perked up a bit when Eden came into the room and sat next to him. Then he remembered not to seem too excited so he wouldn't come off as clingy. Quinn hated that word. When Eden made the remark about a revolution, he felt a rock drop in his stomach. Would there be a revolution..? Surely someone from the outside would be able to come and save them before it came to that, right?

Quinn tried to convince himself that that was true, but he could feel that it was a false hope.

If there was an uprising, what would Quinn do? He didn't know who these people were, and they had magic. Scary, dangerous magic. Quinn didn't know a thing, there was no way he could stand up to them.

I don't know anything. Quinn pondered over this thought for a moment. Gears started turning. He may not know anything, but he was in the knowledge hub of the school, wasn't he? Quinn lifted his head and looked over at the expansive bookcases. Bookcases full of knowledge.

He turned back towards Eden, the seed of an idea planted in his head. "No, we're talking about phoenix and raven hybrids. Do you have a better name than phoeven?"

Ash smiled and shook her head at Eden. "Probably not. Besides, if I were planning an uprising, I'd plan it from a storage or laundry room. Nobody goes in those. I hide loads of stuff in there." If she were planning an uprising though, a phoeven would be her symbol. Eagles were technically the Ravenclaw symbol, but it was RAVENclaw and ravens were smart. Also, it would be harder to recognize that it had to do with ravenclaws. Phoevens. They were a new thing. Born in probable blood and literal tears. "Hey, if this is a 'slumber party', does anyone have any interesting stories? I got lots of them." She colored in the phoeven with all the colors. She rubbed her injured arm. A week ago, she was crying about a gash. And now she was being held hostage. Times change.

The most important thing was to protect everyone and keep them sane. The ministry would save them. Or at least Ash hoped so.

Us? Coby blinked, listening to them all talk. He shook his head at the first person who answered him, managing a small smile because no, wordplay is never dumb. He quickly discovered his name was Quinn, through the girl that spoke up. Her name, he discovered a little later, with the arrival of another first year, was Ash. He just had to find out the name of the first year.

But there was one thing that bugged Coby a little. "Why are you mixing phoenixes with ravens? If we tried with eagles, our house animal, we'd get... pheagles." That got a chuckle out of him. "I'm Jacob, by the way. Sometimes people call me Coby," the fifth year added as an afterthought, and then looked at the first years. "If you, uh, have any questions or anything, about Hogwarts, and how things usually are around here you can ask me. I dunno how to plan a revolution though," he tried to make a joke, intentionally this time, and even as he sensed it fail he still offered a smile at the newest first year that had joined them. "I'm not very good at slumber parties either." That was for Ash. He had no stories he wanted to share.

No revolution then. Worked for her - she should learn more magic before all that.

Eden blinked at Quinn. "Hmm...nope. Ravix sounds medical, phoeven is better." She didn't care why they were combining birds. It was a good bonding activity.

Interesting stories? "Ash, If you've got stories about Hogwarts, I'm listening. My interesting stories all seem a bit tame in comparison to magic." Not exactly true. She just didn't want to bring up anything like the Lindsey fiasco or the Events We Do Not Speak Of (aka the time period around her parents' arrests). Her eyes turned to the older boy...what was his name? She didn't think they'd met. Oh. Coby, cool. He brought a little controversy to the conversation with the eagle comment. "Hi Coby. I'm Eden. I'm at about an intermediate slumber-party level."

Quinn nodded a bit at the fifth year boy, who Quinn now knew as Coby. "Hey, I'm Quinn. And, well, my mind kind of automatically went to ravens, because, well... Ravenclaw. But..." he chuckled a bit, "pheagles could also be taken as a phoenix beagle, which isn't exactly the most intimidating, is it?" He managed a lopsided smile. "If I have any actual questions, I'll let you know."

He turned towards Ash. "I don't think I really have any very interesting stories. I lived most of my life thinking I was a Muggle, so... I have to agree with Eden. Any Hogwarts stories would be cooler."

Ash suddenly regretted talking about stories. She would much rather talk about her muggle life than last year, especially now that they were being held hostage by pureblood supremacists. She shifted. "Um... if you want to hear stories about magic... I set the forbidden forest on fire once. Accidentally, but also on purpose. Erm... it's complicated." Or they could hear about the muggle world, or phoevens, or something else other than magic. Ash would rather not be a witch. She came in her from her very tolerable life, and was immediately thrown into pain and suffering. "In case you were wondering, I'm not a pyromaniac." Fire was awful.

Really what she should have done was remained in the dorm until she was sure she wasn't going to cry again. Sitting there alone on the couch for a few minutes was enough for the first year to figure out that she should speak with the others that were sitting around.

Slowly getting to her feet, Lia made her way back to her dorm, collecting a few items of hers before returning to the common once again. Wrapped around her shoulders was her favorite fleece blanket from home with the Dahlia flower pattern on it just like she was named after. Also sat upon her shoulder, nuzzled against her neck and partly hidden by her long hair was her companion, a pink Pygmy Puff.

This time rather than sitting by herself, she joined the small group of others. "Hi, I'm Dahlia," she gave them all a small friendly smile. Yes, she needed to be strong, be her usual happy, friendly, bubbly self. "Can I sit with you all?" Making friends was a good idea, especially after that wreck of a feast they had all just experienced, what they needed to do was stick together. "Anyone want some?" The offer was regarding a bag of mixed candies that she had brought with her from home.

When Dahlia came and sat close to everyone, Quinn automatically liked a lot about her. This helped him to perk up much more. "I really like your name. Dahlias are one of my favorite flowers—I brought one to school with me, actually. And your Pygmy puff is adorable! I saw some in Diagon Alley over the summer, and I really want one!" Quinn smiled, but then made sure to reign it in a bit. Atlas wasn't around, but he still didn't feel much like having sweets. "I-I don't really want any candy right now, though. Thanks."

Quinn looked at Ash quizzically. He understood now why she brought up fire a lot. "Oh. That's, um... good to know..?" He could tell Ash was uncomfortable with the subject, but he thought this might be something good to know about. "H-how did you, um... accidentally-but-not-accidentally set the forest on fire..?"

The warm welcome from a boy whose name she wasn't entirely sure of yet had made her smile a tiny bit more. "Thanks," she replied softly, her entire demeanor changing as he continued to talk to her. "That's awesome! You think I can see it sometime? At home I share a garden with my siblings but we have several different types of Dahlias growing there." Sitting down on her bottom, Lia pulled her knees up to her chest setting the bag of candy down at her feet. "His name is Sir Frederik Puffington. I've had him for several years now. You can hold him if you like, he's super friendly." With that being said she lifted the Pygmy Puff from her shoulder and held him out to the boy.

Dahlia blinked a few times when she heard Quinn's question that had been directed at Ash. A fire. Forbidden Forest. Why did this sound strangely familiar to her? She had heard many many stories from her older siblings so maybe that's where she had heard it from.

"Hi Dahlia. I'm Ash. Welcome to Hogwarts." Honestly, it would have been better to be UNwelcome at Hogwarts, but she kept that thought to herself. No need to be negative if they were already appropriately scared. "Nice blanket. And pygmy puff." Ash had her cat tucked 'safely' in her dorm, out of fear for its safety. "My favorite flower is California bluebells. Or really any blue or pink flower. Or wildflowers. Just... flowers in general." She squirmed a little. Did they really have to hear about the possession thing? When they were in a hostage situation? Ash chose to keep it vague. "A ghost made me do it. I used incendio and stuff. Me and some other kids. We set some people on fire too. But everyone was fine. I'm not a pyromaniac or anything."

Quinn nodded eagerly. "Definitely! I need to bring it to the greenhouses with Professor Flamsteed, and I plan on going to water it regularly, so you can definitely come with me sometime! I have a garden at home, too, but I'm the only one who really tends to it at the moment. I got my mom to look after it a little while I was here, though." Quinn silently hoped that he would be able to make it back to his garden, but he pushed the thought from his mind.

Quinn grinned and gingerly took Sir Frederik Puffington, petting him in his hand. He was literally adorable. "I love him! Oh, um, and I'm Quinn, by the way. Nice to meet you."

Quinn looked over at Ash when she talked about the ghost stuff. It made him a bit uncomfortable now, too. He probably shouldn't have questioned it. "O-oh. Well... I'm sorry that happened. As long as everything's okay now..."

"Hi, Ash. Thanks, I-.. well I'm glad to be with my siblings." She had nearly said that she was thrilled to be at Hogwarts. That was how she felt all the way up until she had sat down at her house table earlier during the feast. Despite all the scariness that had happened... at least she had her brothers, sisters and cousins. "I've had this blanket since I was baby, my sister has one with Lilies on it." Since her name was Lily. "Oooh, blue is a pretty color, especially the lighter shades of blue."

Dahlia gave a small smile to Quinn. "That would be great. I'd love to tag along with you sometime. Maybe the Professor will let us plant something there? My brother told me that sometimes he allows it." Back in her trunk in the dorm room she had some seeds she had brought along with her, just in case.

"It's nice to meet you too, Quinn. Uh-huh, he's really great and the perfect cuddler when you need it." Which was probably going to be a super lot this year.

A ghost? Dahlia couldn't recall Lukas mentioning anything about a ghost when he had told her about the fire but maybe it was something he forgot to mention. "Good thing no one was really hurt. You're okay now, right?" Lia asked quietly, looking at Ash. That ghost or whatever it was, wasn't still around?
