| | Mirror Not far from the balcony, a large gilded mirror can be found on the fourth-floor corridor. Once upon a time, the mirror hid a secret passageway that would take anyone to Hogsmeade undetected at any time. Unfortunately, there was a cave in mid-way that made the passage end up not leading anywhere. Nevertheless, if you're in a pickle and can get the mirror off the wall and back again, you would at least have a neat hiding place.
Most people just try using the mirror to check on their appearance throughout the day. Oddly enough, however, the mirror doesn't show ones reflection. Always being shown in the mirror is a scene of handsome chandeliers, elegant landscape oil paintings, and golden draperies, which is not at all what the wall of the corridor behind you looks like. This is, of course, one of Hogwarts' many mysteries. The location of the room that the mirror is showing is unknown to everyone today. But every now and then, a dark figure can be spotted in the background before disappearing again.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sophia Svensson #556B2F Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Eulalia Walles (#F48037) Hufflepuff Fourth Year | Open Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE! Given that the mirror she normally used to do her hair had been stolen, Mamie was on a mission to find a functioning mirror. She needed to be able to fix her hair. Or reassure herself that it was fine. Or even practice some ballet and check her posture, if she found a large enough mirror. There were so many practical uses for mirrors.
She paused going down the corridor, she noticed--hooray!--a mirror! She squared herself in front of it, pulled a hairbrush out of her pocket, and prepared to get to work on a new hairdo. Then she noticed she couldn't actually see her reflection.
That was odd.
She absently started brushing her hair anyway as she looked the mirror up and down. She even leaned in to see better. What was wrong with this mirror? If it was broken, is that why it was still here? |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Delaney Whittle First Year | Delaney decided the best way to begin to prepare herself for this year and assemble as plan for survival and eventually escape, was to explore and learn the layout of the castle from the bottom up. The lower levels were relatively easy: common room, potions, great hall, collection of odd cupboards and corridors. The upper levels however were proving to be a bit more of a challenge as the young snake attempted to navigate the series of moving staircases.
She didn’t even know what floor she was on anymore as she rounded the corner and came across a large mirror. In front of the mirror was a young girl who didn’t appear much older than herself... holding a hairbrush? As Delaney inched closer to the girl, she noticed something even stranger. The girl had no reflection?!?! Was she a ghost? A vampire? Was it true vampires had no reflection? “Errrr…. Excuse me but what are looking at?” Delaney demanded from behind the girl. And then quieter she added, “Are you a vampire?”

Mamie jumped when a voice came from behind her. She hadn't really been listening for footsteps, and as the non-functioning mirror didn't give a reflection...she obviously didn't see the girl approaching, either. She spun, hiding the hairbrush behind her back. Did Muggles and wizards use the same types of hairbrushes? She was pretty sure hers was a Muggle hairbrush... Oh, but it was just a little student. Not a scary Invader Squad person. She let out a sigh of relief. "I'm trying to understand how this mirror works," she said, gesturing toward it. "It doesn't show the a reflection from here...it's showing like a window instead." She was taken aback by the vampire question, but stepped aside so the other girl could look in the mirror too. "See? It doesn't show my reflection, or yours. It's weird, right?"
This girl looked younger than her, but maybe she understood mirror physics a little better. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Delaney Whittle First Year | Delaney only felt a little bad about sneaking up and startling the older girl due to recent events with the hooded men and new headmaster. She was more concerned with what she was saying. Did she not know how mirrors worked?
This was puzzling news… a mirror with no reflection? Delaney gave the girl an apprehensive look before inching closer until she herself stood in front of the mirror as well. Oh. Well yes, she could see the problem now…. Even though the Slytherin was standing dead center she saw no one staring back at her, not herself or the other girl. Perhaps she was a vampire as well.... But the longer she stared the more she started to notice in the glass, like the chandeliers and the gold drapes. She spun around to look her companion. “Do you see the other room in there?” She poked at glass, it felt cool as ice against her finger, ”Have you ever seen it before?”
Delaney took a couple steps back towards the girl (who still had her hairbrush hiding behind her back) and stuck out her hand, “Sorry, I’m Delaney. It’s only my first year.”

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sophia Svensson #556B2F Slytherin Fifth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Eulalia Walles (#F48037) Hufflepuff Fourth Year | Constant Vigilance! O_O AWAKE! Not the most observant of Hufflepuffs, it had not occurred to Mamie to examine the mirror!room better. At the first year's suggestion, she looked more closely. Chandeliers...she did not know of anywhere in Hogwarts that had chandeliers. Then again, she was still not the most observant. "I don't think so," she said thoughtfully. "I wonder if it's not even in Hogwarts." Not that it would do them any good.
With her hairbrush-free hand, Mamie shook Delaney's. "I'm Mamie," she said. "Second year. Quite a year you picked to turn eleven!" Like the poor first year had any choice on her age. She looked thoughtfully at the girl. She'd have been stressed if she had her communication cut off on her first day away at school, ever. She was anyway. "Are you doing alright?" she asked in a quieter voice. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Delaney Whittle First Year | Delaney stared at the mirror for maybe a split second longer before turning away from it. Mirrors without reflections could be a problem to solve another day, perhaps it could even wait until next year. “It’s nice to meet you Mamie,” She said sincerely because she was. The school year had been so hectic that Delaney had not met many new people so far. A few girls in her dorm room but almost everyone was preoccupied with the Neo-Alliance, as they should be. It just felt like the young girl had dreamt of her first year at Hogwarts for so long and nothing was going as planned, “I’m not entirely sure… I mean, I am doing alright since I’m still here. I guess I just miss my parents and not being able to write to them kind of sucks. It makes it a little lonely here I suppose.”
Is that even possible with a school so big with so many students and staff? Delaney wished more than anything at this very moment her brother or sister and herself were much closer in age so they could at the very least be at Hogwarts together.

If Mamie had been older, she might have had some useful advice for Delaney. As it was, she only had one year of Hogwarts experience on the first year, so the best she could do was be a friend. "Yeah, it can be lonely," she agreed softly. She tilted her head. "I miss my parents--and my brothers--too." Last year she had written regularly--once a month. And heard back even more frequently. Her family had much more free time than she did. Still, at least she had her friends here. "Y'know what, Delaney? Let's be friends!."
She looked at the first year.. "We can explore, or even do homework together, if you want." Not that Mamie would be very helpful with any homework issues the first year might have, but, together was the key word. Plus, it would fix the loneliness. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Delaney Whittle First Year | She smiled softly at Mammie’s words but on the inside, she was elated. She had so badly wanted to make more friends, but she was never all that great at it. Her mother often pointed out that if Delaney didn’t stop scowling all the time no one would ever want to talk to her. She nodded firmly, “I would like that very much.”
The Slytherin didn’t need to think very hard about what the pair should do next, “Homework is boring,” Besides, Delaney had nearly finished all of hers at the moment, “Let’s explore! I still get lost half the time I go to class. Show me your favorite spot…”

She pocketed her hairbrush. Clearly, this mirror wasn't going to be useful as a mirror for hair-doing. "Right this way, Delaney, you'll love it!" she said as she led the first year away from the mirror, back the way she'd came. |
