Despite his ambivalence toward the subject itself, Heath was looking forward to the first divination lesson of the term for the simple reason that he could always count on Professor Kitridge’s sunny personality to lift his spirits. He entered the classroom expecting to hear snaps, but instead he found the room eerily quiet. Even the professor's smile seemed… off somehow. Not that he could blame her a bit! He didn't feel very smiley himself as is He couldn't imagine how he'd feel if he had to stand in front of a room full of students, surrounded by hooded figures that he could only assume were Rosier's cronies. "Hello, Professor Kitridge," he greeted, managing a faint smile in return. Eager to put as much space between himself and the hooded figures as possible, he beelined for the table closest to the back of the room, taking the empty seat nearest to Claudine. Was he allowed to say hi to her? Better not risk it with those hooded goons here! Instead of a verbal grerting, he gave her a nod of acknowledgement. Soon his eyes were drawn to the rocks on the table, and his curiosity was genuonely piqued. He didn't know rocks related to divination! Wait, they were for divination and not throwing at each other, right? The way this term had gone so far, you never could tell! |
Since Delilah was new to Hogwarts, she wouldn't really notice if anything was out of the ordinary. Now the whole face melting thing had been a pretty obvious surprise for everybody, but the fact that this professor was quiet and not snapping at her students? Delilah didn't even notice anything had changed. As a matter of fact, she still had the attitude that literally nobody could be trusted, and she'd started walking around the castle expecting people's faces to start melting off. Any one of them could be somebody else. She quietly took a seat, but at the same time, she tried to hide a light laugh at Emmerson's comment. Delilah had to admit that if they started throwing rocks at their unwelcomed guests, she'd join in for sure. Then just like that, the lighthearted nature of the first few seconds of class was over. Delilah felt her heart start to pound again as the two hooded figures entered the room. She squirmed a little bit in her seat then turned her gaze to a random spot in front of her. Nope. Not going to meet anybody's eyes, especially not the two hooded figures. |
Belatedly, while climbing all those stairs, it had crossed Flynn's mind that all the professors might have actually been fake and maybe they couldn't trust anyone anymore, but when he saw Kitridge he relaxed a tiny bit. Just a tiny bit. But only because she had once been his mum's favourite professor. It was hard to relax in general at the moment. And that little bit of relief drained away when those.... people flanked her. The professors that were here, that were good and real and had nothing to do with any of this and Flynn suddenly realised how tenuous a position they were in. Worse than the kids. His hello died on his lips and he gave Kitridge a stricken look instead before slipping into the seat next to Kale. He gave his friend's shoulder a reassuring (and apologetic) squeeze and then focused his attention on the rocks with a lot more interest than they deserved. |
Delaney felt exhausted. It took her hours to fall asleep the night before (after she had silently cried under her covers) and once she did, she still tossed and turned well into the morning. So, climbing what seemed like a bajillion stair from the dungeons up to the north tower was a dreadful start to the morning. Not to mention the pair of freaks in hoods that stood at the front of the classroom next to the professor. “Professor,” She saluted to Professor Kitridge before whispering quietly, “Weirdos…” She recognized a fellow snake at a nearby table. Emma? Ella? Bella? Whatever. It would come to her eventually. She quickly sat down next to her and waited for class to begin. |
Valencia seemed to have followed some odd figures into the classroom. She kept her distance, of course, you don't want to be close to random hooded figures. "Hello Professor." the Ravenclaw greeted in a rather subdued voice. She was usually looking forward to classes but this year already seemed like a disappointment. She eyed the hooded figures as she passed before taking a seat and staring straight at the board. She wasn't even interested in the rocks. |
Divination was definitely one of Flora's favorite subjects. Not only was it close to the common room, which meant that she could take her good ole' time getting to the classroom and not have to walk up too many steps, it was also a class where she didn't really have to think too hard in. And if there was one thing Flora didn't like to do, it was think. Also, Professor Kitridge let them try to summon Lord Voldemort. Which other Professor would allow that!? None. And speaking of A classroom full of Gryffindors AND rocks? Would could possibly go wrong! |
Now more than ever it seemed to be important for Curtis to be continuing his studies with Divination. Sure he had parental pressure to stay close to adult family friends but overall, this was personal. Why else has he attended every year? Anyway, Curtis didn't expect to see well, this Professor not looking cheerful but the two figures on her side. He silently cursed inside his head. That meant he had to be even more discreet around her. "Hello Professor," Curtis greeted, pausing to look directly at her. His lips moved inaudible, to the average viewer, this could seen as a peculiar tick. But to those who knew him the longest, he was mouthing out what could be read as 'Mum'. He would have to visit her later. Disguising this action with a small nod, temporarily making him look awkward for safety reasons, he went to take a seat. Practically ignoring the rocks to gaze at the hooded figures. Who were they? |
Violet hated Divination at the best of times, but this morning she absolutely loathed the prospect of the long trek up to the Divination classroom. Especially without tea, which she'd had no time to have this morning. She slumped sulkily into the classroom, grunted a greeting to Professor Kitridge, and plopped down in a seat toward the back, pulling out her quill and parchment as she did so. Were they really going to just hold classes as usual today, if nothing had happened last night? It was not until she was seated that she noticed the two dark figures at the front of the room. Okay, guess it wasn't classes as usual. |
Her mind was in a million places and the off in space look that Cassie had soon switched to a bigger smile as the students started to come in. She couldn't act panicked when they were around. She wanted them to know that the staff was strong and would protect them no matter what. She was going to try her best, but her momma ways were in full force. Her momma bear emotions were getting the best of her. SPOILER!!: So much going on in these replies "Hello everyone and welcome to our first Divination class. I know things are seeming different, but we are going to be jumping right into some more nature reading this term. Diviners have used nature for readings for as far back as we can research and why wouldn't they. The earth can speak to us like nothing else. It sees things that we can not and can show us so much." She loved nature, though she didn't always like being in nature, her heels always were an issue with nature. "As you see we are going to be studying rocks today, what I want you to do is look at the rocks. Don't touch them yet, but just look at them. Which ones seem to speak to you, which would you pick if you were walking in the forest?" Her eyes looked at the hooded people again, they were making her so distracted and the poor students seemed to not enjoy them there either. She turned to them, "Would you like to take a seat and do the lesson with us or if you don't mind leaving so I could teach students without you distracting them, that would be lovely as well." She snapped towards them encouragingly before turning back to the students. "With the rocks sitting here and what we have learned about nature and ways of reading, what type of reading do you think we will be doing today? Have you heard of any forms that use rocks in some way?" She tried to keep her distance from the hooded distractions and keep her focus on her students. ** I am so sorry this took so long. With Peeves last night and work today it has been crazy. We will continue hopefully in 24 hours! |
Claudine stared as the figures stood on either side of Kitridge. She was upset to see them there and it reminded her of Umbridge all those years ago, observing the then Hogwarts professors. The Snakette hoped Kitridge wouldn’t be intimidated and would be able to carry out the lesson as planned. A pleasant distraction in the form of Heath arrived which made her feel a bit better. His presence had that effect on him. “Hi, you,’’ she mouthed to him. Nature readings… that sure did sound interesting. Claudine had to agree with Kitridge. Nature was definitely wonderful as she had found out during that year at Beauxbatons when she would constantly find herself drawn to the Rose Garden. Even here at Hogwarts she liked to be out at the Lake or the pathways. Nature usually provided a calm and soothing effect, not to mention inspiration for sketches. Doing her best to ignore The Hoods, the Snakette focused on the questions. Naturally it was a reading by rocks which she had heard of. But as for the name of that form of Divination? Claudine could not quite peg it though the answer felt as though it was on the tip of her tongue. |
Even though Quinn was excited for divination, he didn't actually know much in the way of the subject. This included whatever was going to happen with these rocks. He did know that he liked nature, though, so he was ready for that. He wasn't ready to sit in a classroom with the Weirdo-Alliance members. They weren't the Headmaster—Quinn wouldn't be able to do a thing if he was in the room—but it was people like him, and they made Quinn exceedingly nervous. Quinn tried to focus on the rocks in front of him, but every now and then his eyes would dart up towards the hooded people to make sure they weren't going to attack anyone. When he was looking at the rocks, though, he did see some that he liked—one looked like a vague pyramid-ish shape, and another was pretty flat and oblong, but it had a hole in the side that intrigued Quinn. |

Mamie was not about these scary dudes being in her safe space. She eyed them warily and almost missed the first half of what Professor Kitridge said. Something about divination in nature and touching the rocks? She reached for a rock, then paused. Wait, no. She said don't touch the rocks. Mamie withdrew her hand, but kept her eye on that rock. It was a good rock. She raised her hand. "I like this rock," she said, gesturing. "Can we use rocks divination to see what has happened in a place? L-Like, like if it's a good place or a bad place or...or if bad people were there?" She tried really hard not to look at the scary people. She focused on the good rock in front of her instead. |
Ash nodded at the kids sitting nearby. It would have been awkward if they sat on the other side of class. "I've heard of lithomancy too. I think you like, predict the future or something by looking at rocks. I don't know how though. Do you look at the rocks, the arrangement of rocks, the light on the rocks, the shape of the rocks... I don't know." For once, Ash could use a little divination. Although... knowing what the future held wouldn't change it, so maybe she didn't want to know. She picked a rock that was lumpy, like a heart or a brain or a fist. She didn't really know. It just seemed like a special rock. |
Aboli actually managed a small smile as Professor K said she had thought of her this summer! And while planning some lessons?! "Yes - thank you, Professor. I need to come see you for some guidance about my future at some point..." Her and Healer Recard, her head of house. But with no owls...Aboli suddenly realized....applying to University would be impossible. The punch to her gut was something she had not expected so soon into the class. But rhe realization had drained all color from her face. She put a hand over her stomach and tried to focused on Professor K's moving lips, the words from her mouth. Rocks. Rocks. They were talking about rock divination. Aboli normally had so much to say in this subject, but all she could think about was how quickly her plans could be ruined, DRASTICALLY SO. Rosier did not seem like he'd be easy to talk to...but surely he wanted to perpetuate magical people's development and continued education? Should she...ask him if she would be allowed? If "Trent's" treatment of her last term had anything to do with it, she was terribly afraid not. What...what was going on???? Aboli had lost focus COMPLETELY. |
Kitridge was a nice lady, he thought as his bottom lip wibbled, offering to be there for him as he navigated this new world. One without his Dad. But he couldn’t really stand to reply. He was too exhausted, listless. So Kale fully lurched to awareness when Flynn sat beside him. He managed a soft smile, the weak kind that was mostly sad, at his bud to show his appreciation for the solidarity. Friendship, bro. It was more important now than ever. Kinda felt like the only thing they had at the moment. He blinked down at the rocks, searching for anything tangible to answer her question, but his brain was straight up empty. Kitridge would have to excuse him. The fifth year couldn’t put more than a few solid thoughts together and stuff for classes was falling dead last in his priorities. |
Valencia watched the hooded figured for a moment before raising her hand. "There's divination based on how light reflects off stones." she said. Perhaps that's what they were doing. |
"Who needs bigger rocks when one has a wand?" Professor Kitridge's question made Kizzy think. A big PROPER, think. Was Professor Kitridge telling them to use their wands to attack the bad people??? Was she ENCOURAGING rebellion? While Kiz appreciated the encouragement, it didn't seem like a good idea. No offense, but she didn't want to die yet. AND Even if wands were better than big rocks, Kizzy only knew how to do maybe... four spells maximum? Last term had been rough and spent doing catch-up with the early confiscation of her wand and she had a feeling this term wouldn't be much better. So she simply gave Professor Kitridge a blank stare before making her way to sit down. Rock divination though? Kinsay raised her hand, despite having no clue. "Sometimes rocks have fossils. Is that divination?" Because it could tell you where dinosaurs lived and that's pretty important information. Kinsay thought so, anyway. She was trying to distract herself from the scary hooded people. |
Bernie had absolutely no clue that you could use rocks for divination. However, at this point in her many (read: five) years as a witch, she had learned that you could basically use anything for Divination. There was no avoiding it, apparently. So for her answer, she fell into her default mode of making something up. "You could... skip a stone across the lake and see how many rings it makes in the water," she guessed. "Or if you've got long game, you could get a stone wet and then see if it'll grow moss and then you could burn the moss and read the smoke rings." She really had no clue. It was hard to make a good guess when they were all being watched by these people but they couldn't see WHO the creepy watchers WERE. They were just ... hoods. Bernie blinked and decided to be a watcher herself; she watched as the professor spoke to the suspicious people, her gaze darting between the adults with hesitation. Were the rocks really here for the lesson or did she want to give them an extra weapon (besides their wands)? Hufflepuffs were nice like that, Bernie thought. Maybe Kitridge was just looking out for them, really. Then she took turns watching each additional person who answered, wondering how some of the kids (the ones mentioning lithomancy) knew which chapters to read before the first of day school, even. Guess those ones were the seers. |
Delilah was equally shocked and relieved when the professor carried on with the lesson as if the hooded figures hadn't ever even arrived at all. It was admirable, but it was worrisome, too. Each and every time someone showed the least bit of resistance, Delilah was taken back to that very first crucio she had seen at the feast. It wasn't exactly a mental picture most people wanted to have. Rocks. Just...rocks. Delilah had never, not even once in her life, considered rocks very interesting. They especially didn't 'speak' to her at all. She stared down at the rocks before her, though, but it was really just as a distraction from the hooded figures. She raised her hand. "I don't really know much about Divination, but if I was walking through a forest, I would probably just pick up a really pretty rock. Or maybe even a rock that I could throw," she said. Having pretty rocks and rocks she could throw, though, had nothing to do with Divination. "I'd say if we wanted to use them for Divination, we would look at sizes and shapes? Maybe whether they're smooth or jagged?" |
Noah hadn't been feeling his usual self so he had been rather quiet at the beginning of class. Rocks... Reading. Shadows? Shapes? Lines? He mulled over what they could be doing with the rocks today.... He stayed silent, listening to the other students provide their thoughts and answers to Professor K before raising his right hand. He intended on building on top of Delilah's idea in a way. "Would we also look at cracks on the rocks??" He paused, running through ideas in his head. "Shadows perhaps?" |
Don't touch the rocks. ....................... Why was it always so hard to follow instructions to not touch something? Aries and himself had never been quite good at that, often sneaking into dad's office to play with his figurines. They used to get away with it, sort of. Dad had this crazy photographic memory where he would pick up at the tiniest of change in position. Mum would say the same about her work bag and that exploration had sent them on an emergency trip to Mungo's. Andromeda didn't like it when they touched her stuff either...but they did it anyway. Anyway. Rocks. There was no way in Hades that Atlas was leaving this classroom without a rock in his pocket...but not to throw it at anyone like Emmerson was suggesting. He was...going to ignore that statement, especially since it was the total opposite of what she had been saying last night about resisting and using force against these people, and instead eye the pile of rocks nearby to pick out his favorite. He didn't know anything about Divination, just how to troll here and there with astrology, but he DID like the suggestion of one of his housemates. "I like the skipping stones idea. Can we do that?" Because then they could be outside and maybe feel less like these hooded figures were breathing down their necks. Also...maybe they could provoke the giant squid and he could go all kraken on Hogwarts and the Neo-Alliance. |
Rocks?? Valentina didn’t know one could use rocks for divination but then again, she didn’t really understand the subject all that much. She simply stared at the rock sitting in front of her for a minute or two.. uhh?? they weren’t really speaking to her at all?? She just didn’t get it so she simply looked around a bit. .... “I didn’t know rocks could be used for divination... reading purposes, Professor!” She responded to the professor’s question several moments later, raising a hand. |
The Hufflepuff definitely needed to hear those words. After indirectly being called worthless as a muggleborn was something no one signed up for. He nodded in appreciation before he looked next to him as one of the Flamsteed boys decided to sit next to him. Now, he wasn’t that familiar with the Flamsteeds apart from that their Herbology professor shared the same name. Were they related or was it purely coincidental like the name Yoon was normal but not all Yoon’s were related in his home country? Also , which one was this? That Atlas kid or what was his name again?…Aries right? Sounded about right. He would pay attention when the Professor called his name that way he would know for sure. Before he could greet the young Gryffindor, his eyes saw the hooded figures coming in to the room and he immediately closed his mouth as he clenched his jaw as they stood behind the professor. Feeling that his hands had started to tremble in fear, the seventeen year old put them under the table so that no one saw. He looked at the rocks in front of him and wondered which one got his attention . None of them did, the hoods were too distracting at the moment. Hi His mind went to an old computer game he had played with his little brother in which they had obtained golden rocks after learning the divination skill in the elf clan. But that was probably not what the professor meant so he thought of something else. He must have remembered SOMETHING . ”Liomancy….right?” he asked slowly before he added ”Oh! i meant Lithomancy ” He blamed the hoods for this mistake. |
Bella gladly dropped her eyes to the rocks on her desk instead of the strangers that had showed up in this class too. It was best to ignore them and just focus on the lesson and the question they had been asked. She studied the rocks for a moment before she looked up at Professor K. Raising her hand she answered. "If a certain rock is extra shiny or has an unique shape or colour or in some other way draws my attention to it then I'd pick it up." Bella studied her rocks again before adding on. "I suppose we can read the stones by throwing them on the ground and see how they land if it's up or down or sideways. Other ways to read could be by interpreting the stones surfaces like if the stones are smooth, cool, hot, jagged or rough or has a certain colour. I also think the most common divination form with stones is called Lithomancy but there is also pessomancy or poe divination." |
