Default DADA Lesson 1 - Bombarda

It's the first day of classes and the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class of the term. It would have been responsible of you to go to bed at a decent time...if you could sleep.

Either way, that's of no consequence to the Headmaster who has instructed that the lesson will be in the duelling arena at 8 am sharp.

As you walk into the arena, you will note that there is nothing unusual within the room. The dummies stand to either side of the room, the stage remains empty. Headmaster Rosier is stood before a chalkboard with the simple instruction:

Quote:
No incessant chatter - that goes double for you, Kinsay James.
The lesson will begin shortly. Come in, greet like you mean it then shut up.

OOC: Welcome to the first DADA lesson!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24-28 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet!

CLASS HAS BEGUN!!!!

Only Rosier and the live dummies existed to Lilith Crane at this very moment. It would be a lie if she denied the approving nod from the man didn’t feel somehow…reassuring. She wasn’t going to be hurt. At least, not at that moment.

It was bad. THIS was bad.

As chaos unfolded around her, her hands instinctively shot to cover her ears like they did when she was a child and she was scared. Somehow blocking the noise it’d make things better. Quickly she remembered where she was, and hoped to Merlin Rosier hadn’t seen her. Wand in hand she moved quickly, surveying the grounds, and as much as she could, avoid the little dummies.

Children blown to bits.

They weren’t actual children. All of this was fake. They were dummies. Realistic dummies…so, so very realistic. Not more so than her family, though. No. That’s when then gears in her head started to turn. If she did not do as she was told, Lilith worried Rosier would target her family. That was a fear that’d make her capable of a lot of things. That scared her. As it was, she begged herself to be strong, to numb whatever it was she was feeling.

Taking in a deep breath and wiping any expression from her face, she pointed her wand at a dummy and called out, “Bombarda!” drawing out the wand movement. The dummy tried to run away, but the spell got it. Lilith hissed under her breath as the dummy stood back up. The intent of her spell wasn't as strong as she expected it to be. She HAD to do better. "BOMBARDA!" she repeated. The spell got the dummy square on its back, right between its shoulder blades. It collapsed. Motionless.

At this rate might as well give her one of those dark cloaks. This was terrible.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

A small smile creeped on Minjae’s face as he watched the dummies being blown up in a brilliant bright flash. He wasn’t smiling because he had blown up the *muggles* but because he was pleased that he was getting better and better with his non-verbal spells since last year. If the time ever came , he would be able to defend himself and the people he loved better than when he would blatantly shout out the spells he wanted to use. Non-verbal spells gave him the act of surprise.

Once the initial shock that the Tyrant had used dummies who looked like muggles for this training was gone and Minjae knew that they weren’t real, his breathing had become more steady and he lowered one hand from holding the Alder wand with both hands.

And then chaos all around. His stomach turned again at the realistic portrayal of the whole scene as he watched the dummies ran away in fear.

‘They’re just dummies. They’re just dummies. They’re just dummies’

He chanted these words in his head like a mantra, trying to convince his mind that what he was doing wasn’t terrible and that he was just practicing the bombarda charm.

He raised his wand and pointed it at the dummies who were getting up from their chairs . With a triangular flourish of his wand, the seventh year send another non-verbal Bombarda their way . He didn’t wait to see if it had worked though for he had seen a few other dummies trying to get away behind a food stall

Minjae leaned his body to the right and aimed his wand at the back of one of the dummies who was escaping with the group. This time, the seventh year didn’t use the Bombarda charm alone. He waved his wand and added another one after it. ”Bombarda!” he shouted and with the help of the homing spell to lock the spell on to its target, Minjae waited for the blast to come.

'They're just dummies. They're just dummies. They're just dummies'

That screaming..

It caught her completely off-guard, her eyes widening in concern, her heart hammering in her chest. This was a different kind of cruel. This was Rosier making it impossible to forget who these dummies were meant to represent and it was horrific.

Angry tears welling up in her eyes, the fifth year looked around for another adult-looking dummy and locked on to her target. "B-bombarda!" The tears spilled over as the spell hit. It wasn't as powerful as the first, but it had emotion behind it, intent, enough to cause damage.

This was awful.

She was awful for doing this.

If she had thought she couldn't do this before, those dummies running around screaming certainly didn't help at all. Her spell had been a complete miss but seeing the dummies panic caused tears to fill her blue eyes. This was bad, real bad.

From her spot beside Tadhg, Lia caught a glimpse of a obviously very shaken Quinn. There was no way she could leave him standing there alone. Sniffling softly, she grabbed Tadhg by the hand and gently tugged him towards Quinn with a whispered, "He's a friend," as explanation.

Dahlia dropped her besties hand when they got to Quinn, slinging an arm around his shoulders lightly. "Quinn... I- I probably shouldn't be the one talking here but.. you can do this. We all can. We have too," she whispered. None of them had much of a choice. "Tad, this is Quinn, Quinn... Tadhg my bestie since forever." Besides Lily and Elias obviously. "We'll do this together, hm? The three of us." Three were better than one.

Dropping her arm from his shoulders she took a deep shaky breath and turned towards the ensuing chaos that had quickly erupted around them. Scanning the mess of destruction she found a group of four dummies running together in terror. "See them four over there," she pointed her wand at them. "This isn't real. It's fake. Horrible, terrible, cruel fakeness... but still... fake. Keep that in mind, aim at them and cast. Together."

This was almost like how she did things with Elias and Lily. Together. Everything was always easier when it was the three of them. Like right now. She had Quinn and Tadhg to draw strength from and them from her. As a team they could do this.

With another deep breath and a slightly unsteady hand, Lia once more aimed her wand at the group of dummies, trying hard to ignore the shouts and plees. "One... two.." she quietly started to count down. Fake, it was all fake... not real people. Focus. "Three. Bombarda!" Dahlia cast as strongly as she could putting all of her own fears and sadness into it.

Quinn gasped a little bit when Lia put her arm around him, but he was grateful for the company and encouragement. He wiped his eyes and nodded. "O-okay... we can do this... together... th-thank you..." Quinn nodded at Tadhg. "H-hi... it's nice to meet you." Quinn figured he would do a formal introduction later, since now didn't exactly feel like the right time for one.

Quinn looked at the dummies that Lia was talking about. He nodded. "They're fake... you're okay, Quinn, they're fake..." he whispered to himself as he pointed his wand.

Quinn waited as Lia counted off. He tried to muster every bit of courage inside him and push his feelings aside. He needed to do this. When Dahlia hit three, Quinn shouted with all his might, "Bombarda!"

Tadhg could tell that she was struggling and the screams and pleas didn't help matters either, it was making it hard to focus. He wanted so badly to hug her and tell her it was okay, but the risk of everything right now he just couldn't. It was breaking hom seeing his best friend and friends like this. Another side of him was furious and boiling with anger so bad he was shaking.

Letting her drag him over towards Quinn he squeezed her hand in comfort. "Okay Bubbles, just don't want us to get into trouble or you to get hurt."His voice was low in a whisper but to where she could hear it. They had to be careful or Merlin knows what will happen to them, he didn't want to find out.

Quickly giving Quinn a wave and a nod he said quietly. "You're right Bubbles, three is better then one, and more powerful in destruction." He hated that he said that, but once again they had to be careful. Swallowing hard he bit his lip holding his wand tightly in his hand.

His blue eyes scanning where she was pointing her wand at he nodded aiming his wand. "I just pretended it was one of the Headmaster's evil gang." He knew that wasn't any better but it was better then thinking about hurting muggles. "Together as one, we're stronger together as one." Aiming his wand he nodded.

Ignoring the shouts and pleas he imagined it was a gang of the Headmaster's evil croonies. Looking down at her he took her hand that he wasn't holding his wand in and squeezed it in comfort. Although he didn't let go, she needed some comfort so if he was going to get in trouble for it, then so be it. "Three... Bombarda!" Putting everything into the spell he was feeling, anger hurt and sadness.

Violet flinched at the sounds of the screaming--she had to just keep repeating over and over again that these weren't real people. But if they were--she knew she could never do this for real. And then she would probably get killed herself, or worse, but that was better than going against everything you believed in--probably.

Suddenly the room was as chaotic mess of people and dummies running around, yelling, grabbing each other. Violet pulled up her wand hand in panic--she could no longer tell which was which, so she stopped firing. Hopefully she had already blown up enough dummies to satisfy this madman.

These people were stupid, she thought. Powerful, but very, very stupid. If their intent was to win converts to their cause, they were going about it all wrong. Her father, the 'detestable' Muggle, could have taught them a thing or two about that--he could con anyone into believing anything with his smooth words and warm manner. All these people were doing was making everyone hate them more by the day.

And if converting the students wasn't what they wanted, then what did they want? That thought chilled Violet a bit.

curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

...was the emotional distress really necessary?!

Did Rosier HAVE to charm the dummies to scream and act as human like as possible just for extra torture???

He had been practicing the wand movement, not wanting to give Rosier ANY ammo towards torturing him again, when he heard the dummies starting to scream out in pain as his classmates hit them with the spells. That extra touch seemed to serve NO other purpose than to just make them feel worse about their actions. This was awful! They were just KIDS! None of them would be out doing any muggle hunting any time soon!

Adam reminded himself he had to suck it up and do the activity, otherwise he was just giving him another reason to hurt him again. He bit his lip, took a deep breath, and looked around for a dummy that hadn't yet been hit. A tall dummy was hanging off to the side of the walkway, running away in a relatively straight line as the chaos erupted around him. Perfect.

He copied the triangular movement he had been working on and yelled "BOMBARDA!" as he aimed at the dummy who was making its escape. The fact that he knew, deep down, that even though the dummy was probably going to cry out in pain, it wasn't a REAL person, made it all a little bit easier to put on the show that he was taking this seriously.

It WAS a good spell to learn, after all. Would he ever use it the way Rosier wanted? Pssh, obviously not!

it's either adhd or wrackspurts <3 <3 lily luna's mom has got it going on

That was unexpected. Rosier really wanted them to have the entire muggle-hunting (she was catching on, now) experience. Eden wasted about 30 seconds looking around before refocusing out of disgust. There was so much crying. Was it meant to be a deterrent? Because Eden KNEW these were fake (right?), and she would rather watch things blow up than watch them CRY. And she had already done too much thinking and any more would have her encounter her very negative feelings, which were very very very VERY unwelcome right now. She needed to be quiet and learn this spell. She had only one true success so far, and Rosier had overtly hinted that only one would be unsatisfactory.

Anyway...she knew she couldn't tell anybody, but watching the dummy explode had been fun.

Eden lifted her wand and cast the spell again, and again, and again, aiming at a cluster of fleeing dummies, among whom she recognized her toddler!Dummy's parents. Imagining Rosier had worked the first time, so she continued to fantasize about killing him and his goons. As long as she aimed away from her peers, what was the harm in getting in as many tries as possible?

What the....what?

Morgan had not expected the dummies to suddenly start screaming and begging for their lives. It was actually quite shocking at first. And he stood there dumbfounded, for about all of three seconds, as he watched the chaos unfold and the animated dummies run around in all directions screaming and crying.

But it wasn't real. And to be perfectly honest, Morgan had played some pretty violent video games before that weren't much different - even if these dummies were unarmed, unlike his games. But those weren't real either and were actually kind of fun. He liked blowing things up and, even if Headmaster Imposter clearly was trying to train them otherwise, he would never in a million years do this to real people. So he gave himself permission to have fun. Because explosions were fun.

Pausing to strategize, he eyed up the scene, and decided to aim for a small grouping. Why not see how many he could take out? A quick flick of the wand in the shape of a triangle, and then, "Bombarda!" Turning to see another dummy running off, he cast another. "Bombarda!"

Screaming and pleading... Of course. Curtis should've expected there to be more to this. Bombarda alone is already a simple spell with a simple carved figure, though animated. I get it... If we're suppose to be killing muggles we have to be desensitized to their voices of pleading. No mercy.

Curtis stared blankly as the cries filled his ears. Mixed in with his classmates already horrified at the sounds. They're just... voices. He bared his teeth in concentration with a glare. It was going to take more than realistic voices to get anything pulling on his feelings. This time he aimed at another pair holding a baby dummy, wordlessly with the same animation, Bombarda! That was another challenge added in.

Then he aimed at another dummy, miniature ones. He was going to eliminate every small miniature dummy possible. Not because it was easy, but it made him look heartless enough to keep him from punishment over something he really wanted to do. A smirk played on his face at the idea of him somehow being seen as the best student through this act. As ironic as it was, it would take him being as heartless as this fake Professor himself.

Just when Heath thought he couldn’t feel any more shocked and appalled at the events of this class, Rosier grabbed Ashley and threatened her life in front of the entire class! His eyes grew wide and panic-stricken, and it was only the clenching of his jaw that stopped him from letting out an audible gasp. Since the moment he walked into this room, Heath suspected that Rosier would eventually resort to killing students - and why wouldn’t he? He’d already demonstrated that he was capable of using Unforgivables on children! Heath just never imagined it would happen this fast. The fear he felt was slowly turning into rage… rage at Rosier for hurting his classmates and rage at himself for being unable to protect them. Despite his rising emotions, there was no way he could keep silent when someone’s life was on the line!

His mind kept going back to his answer to the last question, to muggles like Vernon Dursley and Mary Lou Barebone. He genuinely believed those people deserved to be punished, not because they were muggles but because they were bullies. His answer to the question was the same thing he’d wish on any bully: give them a taste of their own medicine. In this case, round up the muggles and do everything to them that they had historically done to wizards. Burn them, beat them, abuse them psychologically to the point that they hate what they are and want to die!

Heath shuddered at the mention of green lights and someone dropping. All he could think was, What if it was Claudine? Just the idea of living without her made him want to cry, and he frantically tried to push the thought out of his mind. Luckily, the activity instructions distracted him before cracks in his stoic facade could show. They were doing Bombarda, good! The kind of mood he was in, he needed to blast something right now… but the scene in front of him dampened his enthusiasm. There was no need to guess what that was supposed to represent! What?! They screamed too! An uneasy feeling settled in the pit of his stomach as he imagined his father or his grandparents in the dummies’ place.

Still, the encouraging look from Claudine renewed his determination and he returned it with a small reassuring nod before heading into the fray. He would go on playing the part of a “good” halfblood if it meant keeping her alive and in his life. That’s all he was, an actor playing a role and the dummies props. It’s not real, he reminded himself, aiming his wand at the nearest adult male dummy. “Bombarda!” he exclaimed, unleashing his pent-up rage into the spell.

Of course this would be the activity. It shouldn't have been a surprise at this point in the lesson, but it was. Just the very...clear message and point of it all. Ivy couldn't believe this was really happening.

To think just yesterday on the train, she was thinking about the term ahead and what it would be like. She never would've guessed this.

But she had to do it. She had to just...focus on the fact that this wasn't real. They were just dummies, not people.

She practiced the wand movement several times, trying to focus more on how it felt than on the things she would be targeting. It isn't real...

But then, as the others were successfully casting their spells, the screams began.

Merlin's beard.

It isn't real, it isn't real, it isn't real.

But it definitely felt a little more so now.

Not that it mattered. She had to participate, or there would be consequences.

Ivy took a deep breath to help her focus again. Focus on the spell and making it land. It wasn't the first time they had practiced with dummies, so this shouldn't be any different aside from all the obvious things that did make it very different.

There were a couple of dummies running together in one direction, so she aimed at them, moved her wand in the proper triangular shape, and cast, "Bombarda!"

This wasn't so hard, honestly what was the issue? They were dummies and she really wasn't paying attention to the use of it later or thinking anything like that. She knew the professors would figure something out. Her mother and other professors wouldn't let anything really happen to them, would they?

No, she wasn't going to allow herself to think that they would. She knew her mother would do anything she could and she felt Willimanson would too. She knew him longer than the rest of the professors, he was more of an adventurer so he wouldn't be scared of wizards.

Turning to the dummies she started to practice and practice the word over and over. Once she felt she had it down she did the wand movment, "Bombarda" Sending the spell towards a group of dummies that looked like they were enjoying a meal.

When some started to plead it did make the hair on her arms, but she tried to ignore it. They are just dummies, just dummies.

They were just dummies. They were just dummies.

Noah had to repeat this to himself. Oh how he wished to just repeat that this was all just a horrid dream and he was going to wake up the day before he had to get on the train to Hogwarts for the start of his Seventh Year. He pinched himself as he listened to the instructions before realising that his naive thoughts were silly to entertain much longer.

Just do as they say, said a voice in his head. She had asked him to stay safe because if he dared to raise his voice... someone would get hurt. Rosier had made the threat all very real.

Readying his stance, he focused on the dummy in front of him and tried his best to block out the screaming. Instead he tried his best to focus on the wand movement. Triangle. Triangle... The screaming persisted and he was distracted by dark thoughts. The children... He thought of his siblings and his friends... and.... His hand was shaking rapidly now. He lowered his wand, taking another deep breath in, before resetting his stance. He'd try again. When he lifted his wand this time, it didn't shake. He repeated the word in his head, blocking out his thoughts and just.. just staring at the dummy in front of him. Just. a. dummy. Not. an. actual. person. C'mon Noah. However, his hand shook as he grasped his wand. Imagine.... Imagine its Rosier in front of you, he wished to think... but fighting Rosier and being put in that situation.... Noah wasn't sure if he could cast such a spell on another person.... Having the power to take someone else's life away just felt wrong. He narrowed his eyes.

He took a deep breath in, calming himself, before casting, "Bombarda." After the first dummy, he took another breath and cast the spell again.

"I know but I can't leave him there alone. He's a friend," Dahlia had whispered quietly in reply to Tadhg. Friends stuck together, no matter what.

"Sorry," she mumbled softly when Quinn flinched beneath her arm that was wrapped around his shoulders. This wasn't anywhere near the right time for complete introductions but now that they knew who each other was, they had moved on.

Right on cue the three of them had cast their spells at the same group of dummies. The outcome was several explosions all at once or that's what it sounded like to her. The entire place was nothing but chaos, the screaming, pleas and dummies running everywhere. It was hard to remain focused, even more difficult to remind herself that this wasn't real. Everything here was fake, a messed up game that the evil 'Headmaster' had come up with for his own sick twisted enjoyment.

Lia could still feel Tadhg's hand in hers and she left it there, somehow it was making her feel that much stronger, that much more focused. Not immensely so but a tiny bit. Enough to attempt to continue pushing forward. "Keep going. Stick together and remember... this isn't real. It's a game. Not one we want to play but a game nonetheless." The small Ravenclaw cast a glance between the boys standing on either side of herself.

"I'm aiming for that concession stand over there," once again she aimed her wand at it to indicate where. "Maybe if we take out the entire stand at once, we can get the dummies nearby too." Slightly different approach but it might be just as effective or even more so.

"On three. Here we go.." Dahlia pull out a slow breath, aiming her wand at the concession stand. Focus, visualize, let it happen. "One... two... it's only a game," came the soft reminder, "three... BOMBARDA!!!"

All the energy that she could muster up right then, complied with her frustration, fear and angry was put into that one spell. Please work. Please have the outcome she had hoped for.

The dummies were really animated to act like real muggles which was evidenced by the screams and pleas. The ear piercing scream that was heard from the dummy that Bella's spell had hit caused the hair on her arms to stand up. This was not anyway near okay but this was the activity so what could they do, but blast spells?

Bella regripped her wand as the dummies started to run around the arena. She tried to aim at an adult dummy, but that they kept made it more difficult. Hurrying she aimed at one dummy casting "Bombarda!" with all the firm and confidence a first year could muster up along with the correct wand movement. Bella then cast the spell again with the right wand movement at another dummy since it was expected of her. "Bombarda!" if the spell hit or not time would tell.

I'm sorry, Ashley Fox. And sorry to my best friend again. Ash blocked out the screaming.

The problem with Fox's strategy was she entirely ignored the fact that there was now a stampede of dummies. While she took aim, several ran by, knocking her to the ground where anyone could run over her in this chaos.

This hostile take over was extremely hostile ... and Blake wasn't sure where he actually wanted to stand ... not really against this cult leader, but certainly not with him either.

Taking his stance in from of another dummy and watching the wand movement one more time. Blake said "Bombarda" with a straight face again and the proper triangular wand movement .. no reason it shouldn't work again right?

If only the dummies were still like they were before. The boy entirely ignored the fact there was now mass hysteria and in fact a stampede but how much longer could he when the dummies knocked him to the ground like that. Right over him they ran, off to safety.

He couldn't, but the now stampeding dummies could. They knocked the boy to the ground on their way to safety, some stepping about him as they did. Poor kid should've stayed blasting.

Speaking of, it was pandemonium on the promenade, but that was fine. There was no single direction the dummies were collectively running to, so Nem simply picked out the first cluster that caught their eye as they turned from the smouldering wreckage of the table and it's occupants, and pursued at a stride.

Not for long, though. Raising their wand, Nem sent a simple trip jinx at the dummy-couple which had just fled from a nearby food vendor, before they could get very far. A few more steps closer to get a more certain aim, and-

Again, with feeling.

"Bombarda."

They were almost free! Just a little fur--what happened?? The pair tumbled to the ground. They turned to find the student approaching but could hardly get anything out before BOOM!

That's that then.

She didn't, she COULDN'T cry in this class. The only class she'd ever cried in (that she could recall) was Muggle Studies. With Schmoe. There was no Schmoe here, but Bernie hesitated now as the Muggles ran away. What would Schmoey say if he saw her going after members of her own kind?! People like her mum, her sister, her brother, her grandmother...

She trailed after one of them, a kid of seven or eight, about the size of her annoying little sister. They're just dummies, she reminded herself. THEY'RE NOT REAL. Bernie steeled herself as the kid dodged to the side to hide behind a trash bin. Fine. She could blow it (and him up). Might take two blasts, who knew. She again concentrated, pretending it was the STUPID NEW HEADMASTER hiding there instead of a... a dummy.

"BOMBARDA," Bernie cast between gritted teeth, aiming for the trash can and, in essence, the dummy's head.

Wow. The head. That was cold. Poor kid had her whole life ahead of her. She could've been a doctor or an engineer. Plain cold, Grandson Grantham.

On the bright side, her spell had worked on the very first go.

Excellent.

She’d give the spell another shot. There was a female dummy who caught her eyes next. “Bombarda,’’ Claudine tried again with calm and command. That wand movement? It was repeated to precision as before.

Yet another dummy that stood no chance. It went up in a flash of lights just seconds after the spell was cast. Poor Janet.

Except.

She couldn't proper celebrate because as soon as her spell had hit and blown the dummy into chunks, everyone started screaming in terror. And then her whole heart sank. And her lip wibbled. And that's when the implications of this activity really sunk in. Kinsay hated this class. And this activity. And Mr. Rosier.

She gripped her wand a little tighter, looking around hopelessly. Everything was terrible and everything was happening so much. She felt overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with the screaming and overwhelmed with the feelings and overwhelmed with the terror.

Taking a deep breath, Kiz moved to rub her eyes before following behind another family.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. Before trying another "Bombarda," without any real oomph.

No need to be sorry, this spell did little of nothing but riddle the girl with guilt. While there was no explosion, the dummies continued their panicking. They knocked the Second Year to the ground as they ran. Out of the way, wizards were coming!!

Um.

Was this legal? Emm looked over at Kizzy, then over at Phoebe. She knew they weren't real people but ...uh....um....this all turned to chaos real fast and the little Gryffindor girl couldn't help but imagine being back in Madrid on a warm afternoon, shopping for trinkets and dresses....then having someone show up to blow it all up.

...

Wait. That's...that's what this was...wasn't it? The truth slowly dawned on her and it made her stomach twist a little. Could she go now? With all the dummies running around now, no way she'd hit anything. Except....the Headmaster made it clear you needed AT LEAST ONE. Dangit, she waited too long. They'd been sitting still before. She'd never get one now.

Panicked, Emm lifted her wand, swinging it in all directions. When she found someone stagger and fall beneath the stampeding dummies, she squeezed her eyes shut and drew the triangle. "Bombarda!" Please don't scream, please don't scream, please don't scream. Just...just die quietly please. Oh Merlin.

There was screaming, of course there was screaming, but it wasn't from the little girl's spell. On the contrary, that didn't work at all.

It was the panic that sent them screaming, right in her direction to knock her off her feet. MOVE IT!

Well, they were actually the dummies, but she knew what the professor had been thinking when he'd set this up.

Something sparked in her memories, and she was taken back a few years ago.

There was a faint smile of fire...and then flames. She was coughing, and her father was carrying her into their yard. She was standing all alone in the yard while seconds turned into minutes. Her parents never, ever came back out to get her.

A few tears sprang to her eyes, and she dropped her wand by her side. "I can't do it," she whispered to herself. She couldn't kill somebody else's parents when her own parents had been killed, too.

She might not have been able to do it, but the dummies could. In their panic, they shoved the little girl, knocking her right out of the way.

The very away dragon was the least of her concerns, what with the now stampeding dummies and whatnot. They bulldozed the girl out of the way in their panic, knocking her right to the ground.

The whole thing felt a little too real.

Feeling panicked, Mamie gripped her wand more tightly and held onto the nearby vendor cart for a moment. Trying to stay calm. One more dummy...Bazillion pieces. She just had to remember...Dummies were not people.

Taking another deep breath, she raised her wand again. She spotted a smaller dummy that...well, it had gotten left behind, or its bigger dummy companion was already in smithereens. Not real. It's just...a very creepy doll. She just had to destroy a creepy doll. Making a careful equilateral triangle in its direction, she cast the spell again, aiming right at its head. "Bombarda!"

No more head.

Mamie quickly looked away. In the midst of the chaos, she caught sight of a first year [Delilah] with her wand down, who looked like she'd given up.

Mamie didn't want to find out what Rosier would do if any of them failed to complete the whole assignment. She dodged a few running dummies and fellow students to reach the girl and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's okay," she reassured. "They-they're not really alive." She glanced around at the uncomfortably realistic dummies. Maybe helping someone else would make this easier for her, too.

"Say, why don't you hold my hand, and we'll practice together?" Mamie offered her hand and raised her wand, watching the girl a bit to see if she would follow her lead.

Maybe she just wasn't thinking correctly. Maybe she was just being driven by fear and the need to fight for survival. Whatever it was, it was causing her to want to run to the child dummy, grab it by the hand, and run it away to safety.

Just as she started to do that, though, the head of the dummy was blown away, and she skidded to a stop. It had been enough to bring her back to her senses, and she reminded herself that this was really just a classroom, and these people were really just dummies. it startled her a little when a hand was placed on her shoulder, but she relaxed when she realized it was a girl about her age. "I know. I know," she said, trying to breath and relax.

Delilah took the girl's hand and allowed her to be the guide. She was sure she could pull of the spell when the time came around, but having somebody with her right now was just what she needed. She raised her wand toward an adult dummy, and instead of thinking of it as a helpless man or woman, she allowed herself to become angry again at the house fire. She felt a resentment bubble up inside of her. "Bombarda!" she yelled out, and she made a triangular motion with her wand. The spell shot toward the man, and Delilah winced as she became aware that the spell did, in fact, seem to hit him.

"Did I...did I do it?" she asked.

It was a touching moment of solidarity and support but it was short lived. These dummies weren't going to stand around waiting to be exploded. They ran right at the girls--not to attack but to get away from the explosions coming up behind them. Too bad that meant knocking them right over in the process.

While she focused on the botched dummy, another set ran right into her from behind. It was the panic, made it hard to see where they were going.

They WERE just dummies, dummies who saw him coming and screamed like their very lives depended on it. If only that was how things worked. Screaming or not, they still went up with a BOOM.

Yes, she was awful. This whole situation was awful. Those POOR. SCARED dummies. Y'know, the ones running RIGHT TOWARD HER, running her into the ground in their haste. Those dummies.

Quinn figured he would do a formal introduction later, since now didn't exactly feel like the right time for one.

"Three... Bombarda!" The little pep talk for the Ravenclaw was touching, touching but a waste of time. There was chaos about the room even while they tried to steel each other's nerves. By the time they finally DID cast, the dummies had overrun them, knocking them to the ground in their panic to get away.

Maybe next time focus on casting and not on cheerleading.

Maybe more practice, too. It was quite the advanced spellwork for the first years and in this chaos, it was proving even less effective.

Not casting, while somewhat admirable, was likely a bad idea. There was utter chaos. Soon enough the dummies were running in her direction, knocking her over in their panic.

Fret not little guilt ridden Gryffindor, the spell did not actually hit the dummy. In all the chaos, the man managed to scramble over the side of a railing and head straight for the beach. He did NOT want to die, just leave him be scary wizard!

Was it just beginners luck? It had been quite remarkable, a first year mastering fourth year spells...until one realised it may well have been a fluke. Either that or these dummies had gotten lucky. Whatever the case, they ran for the beach too, unwilling to die today.

"Bombarda!"

Video games, were they not stupid muggle technology, could have been considered good practice. In this case, they served the boy well in his domination of the promenade.

Keep it up and you could rid the world the RIGHT way.

It did make the boy look quiet set to purpose, a good look for the 7th year who was making his way along the promenade. The children stood no chance, none at all.

The focused spell was well and good but the chaos around him did not subside. Dummies came barrelling toward him in their haste to be away from the explosions. They knocked him right over, screaming as they went.

The blast knocked the three over, but it wasn't quite strong enough to end it. Unfortunate as they were now left screaming in "agony".

Oooohhh the paaaiiiiinnn.

They were just dummies, good for you Kitridge.

If only the spell was as good. While it DID add a nice bang...it wasn't enough to put the poor dummy it hit out of commission. All it could do now was scream...and casually beg to be ended. Typically dummy stuff.

Too slow! The rising tide of panic swept to the boy's section of the panic. Dummies ran in all directions, panicked. By the time he cast, there was dummies on him, knocking him over in their haste to be anywhere else.

There were a few things working against the first year--the first being in her very title. With a spell so advanced, it was always a bit less predictable among the younger set. Coupled with the stampeding dummies and it wasn't long before Connolly became the hunted. The stampeding mass ran right by her, knocking her over in the process.

Ha. HA.

This was great. He may not have been able to go on the rampage of the century as he wanted to, but he was able to watch it played out here in the classroom and it was about the most amazing thing he had seen all morning. It...satisfied him in some way. The man did not cringe when a few of the children were not over. This was a rampage afterall, there would be casualties on both sides.

The lesson, in his opinion, had served its purpose thus far. He may not have them go out into the real world exploding muggles left and right but he liked to think they now understood he expected obedience. No matter how unpleasant the activity, he expected them to comply and do what they were told if they knew what was good for them. The fact they kept casting after the dummies began screaming settled the man a little more in his assumptions. Last year, these children had been full of resistance. He sought to stamp that out as early as possible.

They could move on to the final phase of this lesson.

"Alright, alright." With a wave of his wand, the scenery disappeared and they were back in the dueling arena. The dummies were now right as rain back against the walls. "Follow me."

Rosier led them from the arena, around a few corridors and into the Muggle Technology lounge. "Earlier, a few of your classmates mentioned destroying muggle tech in our grander game of domination. That is what we'll be doing today. Before we end things, you will destroy the lounge's equipment using the spell we've just practice. Consider it further practice, especially for those of you who had troubles with the spells." Namely the younger kids. It was a fourth year spell, he expected some issues. "Nothing should be left standing. Start."

No further objections. He did not have the patience and liked to think the last activity showed them there was nothing to do but what they were told. He MEANT it when he said he'd just start offing the resisters. There was no place for them in his alliance.

OOC: Time for the mini activity guys! We're in the tech lounge, just have your kiddos do "further practice" with the exploding charm. Here is the tech lounge in question should you need an idea of what your kiddos can destroy. The lesson will end on January 13 ^^

Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?

Ash hit the floor hard, landing on her already injured hip and her right wrist and her back and her ankle. She laid there for a minute. Honestly, she deserved that. And the idea of casualties on both sides cheered her up slightly, in theory. If all the things she cared about were going to burn no matter what, then hurting a few pureblood supremacists was a small victory.

Ash got off of the floor, smiling slightly. Those dummies had fought, and that made her a little happy. Real muggles weren't weak, did they know? If you're going to go down, might as well annoy people in the process. And that was only happy thought in the most miserable way.

Ash followed, limping, to the tech lounge. They were blowing it up now? Ash was just kinda numb at this point. Physically and mentally. This was her favorite place in the castle, and she was destroying it on purpose. She pointed her wand, and blew up exactly one computer. A single tear streaked down her face. She didn't notice. First class of last year, Ash had been physically scarred. THis time, she was mentally scarred. If there were any other types of scarring, then Ash would probably encounter them at some point.

This was genuinely the worst day of Quinn's life.

Worse than that day with Nick, worse than the day, weeks after, when his parents found out about it, worse than any of the days of sickening silence following. This one took the cake.

After the trampling, Quinn laid on his side, hugging himself. He could feel the bruises starting to form. He should probably see the healer after class. There was a stabbing pain in his side that didn't feel too good.

Quinn had no more tears. All that was left at the moment was rage. And Quinn was not quick to anger. He almost never got angry.

Quinn absolutely hated Lucien Rosier.

Quinn didn't want to talk (he would have to apologize later for not checking on Tadhg and Dahlia). He didn't want to cry. He wanted to get this lesson over with. He walked with the class to the Muggle tech room, listening to that despicable man talk. And Quinn knew, one day, he would get what was coming to him.

Quinn went over to one of the computers. He raised his wand, made the triangle and said, shortly, "Bombarda." And the computer blew up. Quinn imagined it was the Headmaster's face.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

You know what? Claudine couldn’t help but be proud of her work. That’s two dummies down for her. Yes, she kept it in the back of her head that they were just dummies and with that, had no issue blasting them to smithereens.

And just like that, they were back in the Duelling Arena. Oh. wait. They never left. Claudine blinked and tried to quickly readjust to the change. Follow Rosier? The girl frowned. Where could they possibly be going now? She looked around for Heath, and once she found him, stuck close by as Rosier led them to… the Muggle Technology Lounge.

Claudine knew what was coming before Rosier laid out his instructions and she visibly cringed. Not Schmoe’s stuff! The things he had taken his time to choose for the students’ recreation. She thought of awkward, kind Schmoe with affection and her heart hurt with regret for what she was about to do.

The Snakette wandered off, and with little to no willpower, pointed her wand to one of the arcade games. “Bombarda.’’ The appropriate wand movement was once again traced out as the incantation left her mouth.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Destroy…..destroy the ……tech……

If Minjae had been in a panic before , he was in FULL PANIC MODE right now. The technology room was his favorite room in all of Hogwarts. It was HIS safe haven. A place he felt comfortable as he played video games with his friends.
And that TYRANT wanted them to destroy it?! WHAT HAD TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT EVER DONE TO HIM?!

If destroying dummies was bad, this was a whole new low for him and it took ALL of his will power not to run ahead of the ‘Headmaster’ as they walked to the tech lounge to save some of his favorite games. He was 100% sure that he would get Avada Kedavra’d in the back the moment he ran ahead. And although he loved the room, it was not worth dying for.

He made a mental note to give professor Schmoe a visit after “class” to tell him that he would help out with buying back the equipment once that TYRANT was arrested or killed. He came from a rich family, it should be no problem for him to help out. Once he reached the room, his face paled as he watched as some of the students began using bombarda in the room.

He just...he just needed a second...to breathe..... but if he waited any longer, the tyrant must think he was resisting and he didn't want to get killed or tortured so he walked further inside and stood in front of the very jukebox he had set on fire by accident a few years ago.

With a heavy heart, the Hufflepuff raised his wand at it and mumbled "Bombarda"

Ugh! Violet picked herself up off the ground, wincing at a skinned knee--and she thought she had probably sprained her left wrist. She was sick and tired of this class, of this teacher, and of Hogwarts in general--in fact, of the whole world! She actually felt like blowing things up now.

But as she followed everyone into the Tech Lounge, she felt tears starting to well up behind her eyes to think of her meeting last year in this place with Professor Schmoe, and how neither of them could get up from the squishy chairs. How he would hate for his special place to be destroyed. And as a matter of fact, where was Schmoe? She hadn't seen him lately and was afraid something bad may have happened to him--he was the Muggle Studies professor, after all, that couldn't be very popular with these guys.
She realized crying in class would also not be very popular and willed the tears to go back in their ducts--she was not going to give this man the satisfaction of making her cry.

Scowling at the universe in general, she walked over to the shelf of CDs and had the grim satisfaction of seeing all the discs fly off the shelves in all directions as the shelving exploded into fragments.

Bernie had a feeling they were heading for Schmoe's; she knew this corridor all too well. She dragggggggged her feet as they went, lagging behind the group as much as she could without attracting the headmaster's attention.

She didn't want to do this. PLEASE. Not her safe haven. This went against her duties as Muggle Studies Teaching Assistant! This was in direct violation of her internal code!!!! She wasn't crying, like Ashley, but she was frowning deeply and trying not to look at her own reflection over by the jukebox Minjae had once caught on fire, a fire that she had helped put out.

Had Schmoe even repaired it after that time? Maybe it no longer functioned. Maybe she didn't have to feel guilty about blasting it. Bernie headed toward the thing, but Minjae had gotten there first.

Blasted Hufflepuff. Now she had to edit her post quickly in the five-minute time span before it would show choose something else to blow up.

A CD. Yeah, sure. How could they hope to play any of these games and things if everyone blasted the computers? Bernie tossed one in the air like a frisbee, making a moving target for herself, and aimed her wand at it almost tiredly but still with plenty of intent. "Bombarda!"

So now they were going to destroy the room with all the muggle items. Curtis wondered if this man killed the Muggle Studies Professor or had him binded somewhere to get "permission" to destroy these items. Weird... you'd think we'd use this stuff to our advantage. We've adapted lots of muggle items for magical use, Curtis privately thought after they had arrived and were instructed on the next task. Of course, he wouldn't question him, especially if it were to give him ideas on what to do. These were antiques to Muggles anyway seeing the big box of a computer that was yellowed. They wouldn't be missed except to some fans of the subject.

Without a word, Curtis aimed at the computers one by one casting Bombarda, wordlessly. Boom, boom, boom.
