"Sure, go for it," Violet said confidently (maybe more confidently than she felt, but she'd never let that show).

He drew his wand, the one he so rarely held now, and said, "You wanna go first?" Kale didn't mind.

Avalon was always a little glad when she got to work with an older student. Not that she didn't like first and second years. But they just weren't as experienced. More chances for something to go wrong—and not to mention that stunning them with a spell made her feel a bit guilty. So she managed a small smile toward Kale in return, also happy that she didn't have to partner with someone from the right side of the room. She didn't feel like socializing with the more privileged ones today.

"Let's do it," she said, reaching for her wand as well. Avalon shrugged indifferently at Kale's question if she wanted to go first. She didn't really care, either. It wasn't likely that either of them would mess it up....right? "Sure. I'll unfreeze you right after, don't worry." Normally, she would have made some sarcastic comment, or maybe something playful along the lines of "any last words." But she just didn't have it in her today. She was exhausted. Performing the spell properly was about all she could manage. Focusing her thoughts, she pointed her wand at Kale and performed the proper motion. "Immobulus!"

The good thing about having a lesson about a spell she already knew was that Ivy didn't feel she had to worry about something going wrong with it during practice. At least, not as much as when it was a brand new spell.

"Immobulus," she mumbled a couple times, just to get a feel for it again, watching as some of the others were quickly pairing up. She felt an abrupt inclination to pick a particular person as a partner, but she quickly shooed that strange, fleeting thought away.

"I do, Minjae," she said, getting up from her chair as well. "You wanna go first? Or me?"

Life would be so easy if you didn't have to move. Or think. Or talk. Or interact with annoying people. Or go to this class. Or ever meet another professor, hood, or annoying student ever again. H U R R Y U P. Please. Pleaseeeee. Why couldn't she have a different life? As a muggle, preferably. Then she would actually be with people who cared. Well, person who cared.

Claudine, having been stuck with Ashley during the course of many long days {not that she was complaining}, was quite used to the other girl’s changed demeanour. And as usual, Claudine was trying to keep her mood from going too down in the dumps. “Nonsense,’’ the Snakette said, putting some enthusiasm into her voice. “Who would be my artist buddy then?’’ Without realising it, Claudine had gotten used to having Ashley around constantly. “Heath’s a terrible artist.’’ There was a quick wink to show that she was only teasing.

Satisfied that she was all set to get on with the spell casting. “Alright. You ready?’’ Claudine tilted her head, already pulling together her concentration. “Here goes. Immobulus!’’ The incantation came out sharp and commanding. The wand movement was replicated exactly as Peralta had demonstrated.

Ash shrugged and forced a smile. "That works too, I guess." Claudine could find some other rule-abiding, pureblood, wimpy bystander artist to work with. Claudine was clearly just saying the art thing for her benefit. She decided to play along anyway and NOT kill the mood by giving a speech about how much she hated her life and the world in general. "I'm ready." Ash was always ready. For anything. Well, not ready. Just accepting. She would hate it all, and be so unprepared, but she had no choice but to adapt. And then she was frozen. It was not as nice as she thought it would be. She was equally sad, but now she couldn't punch anything, or draw or run.

Maybe I don't want to be frozen forever.

I take it back...

Unfreeze me please.

She liked being able to MOVE. To do anything. She couldn't be still. She wanted to be put back so bad. But she couldn't talk, could she? Claudine would just have to get it.

L8 to the party! Anyone need a partner?

Noah was finding it difficult to pay attention. His sleepiness was proving to be a challenge; however, he was aiming to stay awake in class. He couldn’t fall asleep the night prior. Heck- most nights he couldn’t find sleep. He was always worried about being woken up in the middle night by some scream or worse.... Rosier again.

He nodded his head as the class had gone on. It was a way to keep himself still checked into the class before he started taking notes on what everyone was saying. Stay awake. Stay awaaaaaaaake.

It took him a moment to realize that they were about to do the practical portion of class. When students started pairing up, he looked at his notes and quickly re-read them once more. Immobulus. Okay. He turned his gaze, looking for anyone who didn’t have a partner. Merlin.... he was running late to the game.

Anyone need a partner?” he asked.

If not, he’d try to find a duo to join- if that was okay!

SHOWTIME. Mamie was excited to actually do magic because she did a lot of thinking about magic lately in the room, but not enough doing. After Violet gave her the go-ahead, she quickly assumed a dueling stance for realism's sake and raised her wand at the older girl. "Immobulus!" she said forcefully, doing the movement Peralta had shown.

Did it work?

She grimaced hopefully while she waited to see if the third year could move. Maybe if she got this spell down it would come in handy in a duel or escaping or something.

It did not take him long to figure out which charm they were supposed to be working on and it made the Hufflepuff sigh. This was so pointless but again, what choice did he have?

Hearing Ivy call his name he gave her a nod once, showing that he had agreed to work with her. Walking over to the young girl, Minjae took out his wand from his pocket and shrugged his shoulders. "I'll start" whatever. "Get ready" He waited for her to ready herself before he pointed his wand at her.

Although it wasn't a charm that he used on a daily basis, it was still a grade 2 spell and the seventeen year old was confident in himself that he could perform it non-verbally. Almost all of his spells had been non-verbal this year so far and he did not want to stop using it now. The more he used it, the more surprise his defenses and attacks would have if he ever needed it. Using the correct wand movement, Minjae waved his wand.

'Immobulus!'

She glanced Phoebe's way and simply nodded. "I dunno about that. I've not been up to par lately, James," she sighed and eyed Phoebe's hand. Her wand hand. "What's the spell? Immobulus?" Easy enough to say, and probably normally easy enough to do, but Aboli...wasn't sure she'd be able to manage it. And to think she had been worried about getting ALL the spells prior to her year level nonverbally. Pfffffft.

"So this might be the most miserable duel in the history of Hogwarts?" Phoebe actually laughed at that, since both of them normally tried so hard to perform. Miserable for James and Song was less than perfect, honestly. She spun her wand lightly between her fingertips and took a few steps back. Dueling stance or whatever.

"Yeah, Immobulus is the incantation. Can you try to make me fall backwards and not forwards? I'm not getting good access to medical attention and I can't afford to break my nose again." She didn't mind the breaking so much, but it was likely to heal weird without a visit to Recard, and she was vain enough to care.

Anyway, she'd go first OR WHATEVER. "Immobulus." Here's hoping she had enough intention to make something happen.

Ivy nodded. Okay, he'd go first. She then shifted into a relaxed dueling stance, feeling like it prepared her more to get hit with the spell even if it wasn't an actual duel. It felt better than just standing there like normal. She wasn't sure if that made sense outside of her head though.

She also hadn't expected him to go nonverbal with the spell, so she was hit by it before she even realized it.

And...yep, she was frozen in place.

Catching up + snagging Noah

SPOILER!!: Question 2 catchup
Heath copied down the list written on the board, only looking up when Peralta spoke again. He didn't care that he hadn't correctly guessed the subject of the lesson - he had much more important things to worry about than guessing games! But seeing his girlfriend get it right made him feel a faint glimmer of something… pride? Happiness? He had no idea! Never mind, moving on.

Right off the bat, he thought of two answers to the next question, neither of which were safe to say out loud. You could use Immobulus to stop an evil goon from imprisoning you for your blood status, he thought bitterly, or you could use it to stop another evil goon from hitting your girlfriend. Then he thought of another way Immobulus could be used to protect someone, and his hand went up. "If someone is about to walk into a dangerous situation -" Like a dragon's cave or a forest full of acromantulas, for example. "- you could use Immobulus to stop them."

All the talk of sharks went in one ear and out the other. That conversation was completely pointless… pointless but ultimately harmless. Heath would rather listen to that than the usual anti-muggle rhetoric and false hope that dominated the school these days, especially the latter.

Anyway, Immobulus… could've been a worse lesson subject, could've been a better one. He already knew how to do that spell, and if he was going to be stuck in lessons, he would've preferred to learn something new. Still, he wasn't opposed to practicing it. At least it was a spell that could be useful, should he ever get the opportunity to take his revenge against Rosier.

With the spell demonstration and activity instructions fresh in mind, Heath looked around the room for a partner, but it looked like everyone else was taken. He was about to give up and try to practice by himself when he heard Noah, and wasting no time, he beelined to the older boy. "Yeah," he replied, nodding. "Do you want to go first?"

Noah heard someone respond to his inquiry about a partner and turned to find a fifth year approaching him. Heath, wasn’t it? Or was it Henry? No, no, that didn’t seem quite right. He paused for a moment, trying his best to remember this guy’s name before proceeding with a, “Hey! Sure!” Hopefully that would prove to be a smooth recovery, right? Oh how he longed for a hot cup of espresso or a cappuccino right now....... He didn’t need to be exhausted to know that he wasn’t the best with names. “Heath, right?” he asked, hoping to get the other guy’s name right. He was pretty sure it was that or Henry.... but then again what if his name didn’t begin with a H? ;_;

Fortunately, Immobulus was a spell he was quite familiar with. He had spent many hours trying to perfect the non-verbal incantation of it and well.... frankly struggled... He was alright at Charms. It wasn’t his best nor worst subject. And he had excelled at his OWL. Yet despite all of that- he still hadn’t figured out the non-verbal thing...... He’d got it three out of five times but had never nailed it. Hmph. Maybe he ought to practice more? “Ready?” he asked before assuming his preferred defensive dueling stance.

As he readied himself, he emptied his mind and focused on the incantation. He couldn’t very well practice it too much in the room because he didn’t have his wand but he had his mind. His mind would be his practice room- a safe sanctuary where he could visualise the spell and other spells. Taking a deep breath in, he focused on repeating the incantation and visualizing the wand movement in his mind.

Immobulus,” he spoke quietly as he did the correct wand motion. Oh how he longed to use this spell on a couple other folks buuuuuut he was sure that it wouldn’t end well for him.

Hmph.

He ran through the incantation in his head once more trying his best to get it down while debating whether or not he should do this posing business.

....

....

Yeah he definitely needed more time. "Fine. I'll strike a pose if that means you'll go first." It was fair deal enough for William. He just needed to find the right motivation. Let's see? Immanent death if they disobeyed? Yeah...no motivation. Just do something. He placed is one hand on his hip with his elbow stick out. Spread his legs apart just a bit and outstretched his other arm pointing up and out with his wand sticking out from it. He tilted his head back a bit as though to inspect his outstretched arm. "There. Go ahead and freeze me." He looked like a Hero which was not something he would ever be, but it should suffice for a pose.

Kiz was still hesitant, but she smile at Moose the tiniest bit when he struck his pose. "Perfect!" The little things. She tried to hold on to as many of those as possible. There weren't a whole lot these days, you know? Um. As for the spell, Kinsay tried not to look as worried as she felt, but she was starting to get nervous.

Knowing that Moose was waiting for her, she twisted her wand around in her hands for a few moments and tried to hype herself up (not so easy). Ih-Mo-byoo-luhs. Ih-Mo-byoo-luhs. Ih-Mo-byoo-luhs. Okay she could do it. First Kiz needed to look around to make sure no one else was watching (in case she did it wrong), then she took a deep, deep breath. And then finally, she raised her wand. One eye closed, the other one all squinty and "Immobulus."

.... Did it work?

Violet's eyes widened slightly as the younger girl suddenly swung into an action stance--this kid was really taking this seriously, she definitely had her game face on. And just as suddenly, Violet was hit by a wave of blue light and....COULD NOT MOVE A MUSCLE! Merlin, this was terrifying, standing there helpless and unable to move! This would definitely be off-putting in a duel or a fight, for sure. In fact, Violet was beginning to feel rather uneasy now--she hoped that Mamie would unfreeze her again soon (she hoped Mamie knew how!)

Hmph.

Truth be told, Heath wouldn't have cared if he'd been called the wrong name. It wouldn't be the first time it happened, and there were much worse things in life… like being imprisoned for literally nothing, because that's all blood status amounted to! Even if he was worried about that, there was no need, as Noah got his name correct. "Yeah, I'm Heath," he said. He couldn't quite bring himself to smile, but he would still attempt to be friendly. "Nice to meet you."

Okay, so Noah was going first. Heath took a deep breath, bracing himself for the spell to come. He wasn't too worried. This spell wasn't supposed to hurt, and surely Noah wouldn't leave him immobile, right? He nodded, showing that he was ready as he watched Noah get into the dueling stance. Then came the spell, and…

Heath was frozen in place like an eerily lifelike statue, his unblinking dark eyes still focused on his partner. It didn't hurt; it just felt weird. Although he couldn't move, he could still see and hear everything going on near him. Okay, it worked, he thought. Can you unfreeze me now? Please?

Now though, it was time to get to work. Cam wrote down the incantation and wand movement for the Immobulus spell in her notes. Then she started to practice. Since they would be practicing on each other, she did not want to make a mistake.

Starting with the incantation, Camryn said it very carefully, making sure to pronounce the word correctly. “ Ih-Mo-byoo-luhs, Ih-Mo-byoo-luhs”. Then when she thought she had the hang of it, she tried it a little faster. “Immobulus, Immobulus, Immobulus”. Finally she felt comfortable saying the important word so it was time to proceed to the wand movement. After practicing that several times, it was time to find a partner.

“Anyone need a partner? Anyone?” Anyone want to put their life in the hand of a first year? Spotting Dahlia, who also seemed to be searching for a partner, Camryn approached her. “Hi. Do you want to be partners? You can freeze me first, if you want to.”

A hint of a smile graced her lips when a fellow first year asked if she wanted to work together. "Sure, I'd like that. I'm Dahlia." Just in case she didn't already know that. "Um... yeah, okay. I can go first..." She would do her best which wasn't entirely all that great as of lately. Most of her current spell work was either hit or miss. Not being able to practice at all outside of lessons was really taking its toll and her love of reading could only get her so far in learning.

"Let's go over here where we have more room." Dahlia rose to her feet and moved to a clear spot in the classroom that they wouldn't accidentally hit anyone else with the charm. "Are you ready?" She waited for Camryn to stand across from her and for the verbal confirmation before raising her wand. "Alright... here we go.."

"Immobulus," Lia cast making the movement for the charm as she spoke clearly. She tried her best to focus only on what she was doing and seeing ice form around her new friend but that isn't what happened. In fact, nothing at all happened. "Okay, that didn't go as planned. I'm going to try again." Clearing her throat, she tried to really visualize Camryn being frozen. See the ice. Feel the coldness of it.

When she thought she was ready she tried again. "Immobulus!" Had anything happened?

Yay! She had someone to work with. Returning her partner’s smile, Camryn introduced herself. “Yep, Dahlia. Got it. I’m Camryn. Thanks for working with me.” The first year posse, yeah?

Cam followed Dahlia’s suggestion and moved with her to a clear spot in the room. Wouldn’t want to hit anyone accidentally or get hit themselves. When Dahlia asked if she was ready, the Gryffindor said, “Ready. Fire away”. She stood still waiting for impact.......and nothing. She wasn’t frozen, at least not yet anyway. “That’s ok Dahlia, you got this.”

Immobulus, take two. Dahlia sent another spell her way and this time it worked. Camryn was frozen. It was a weird feeling, but kind of cool at the same time. Of course she knew that the spell would soon be undone, so she was not worried. If it had happened outside of the classroom, well that would be an entirely different situation. For now, she just had to wait to be unfrozen.

She liked being able to MOVE. To do anything. She couldn't be still. She wanted to be put back so bad. But she couldn't talk, could she? Claudine would just have to get it.

The Snakette was admittedly a little crushed by the fact that none of her attempts were really working to cheer Ashley up. This realisation also baffled her since it usually wasn’t her thing to really care about most humans. Whatever. There was work to be done.

By the looks of it, her charm had worked! Claudine was over the moon about this because never had she used the spell on another human. She stood there for a couple of seconds, wondering what it was like to be under the influence of that spell. She supposed she’d find out soon.

“Finite.’’ All unfrozen there, Ashley?

Main Activity Time!

While the class worked on their freezing skills, Neva set two boxes on her desk and enjoyed the sounds of productivity. One of the boxes contained sweatbands that were orange, the other box holding those that were purple. Checking her watch, she noted that they'd be needing them soon.

Doing a quick lap around the room, the brunette noted that some of the younger years were having trouble getting the hang of the spell. "Keep at it," She encouraged. Confidence was key. As for those who'd managed to accomplish the spell, she nodded in approval. That would certainly give them an edge once it came time for the main event. Speaking of...

"Alright everyone, time to wrap it up. If you've frozen a classmate, please end your spell. Then I need everyone to come up and choose a sweatband from one of the two boxes on my desk and put it on."

While they worked on that, Neva pushed all the desks back against the walls with a flourish of her wand. They'd want a nice open area for this activity.

"It's time for another friendly competition. As you have probably figured out by now, your sweatband represents your team. It'll be the orange team against the purple team in a good old fashioned round of freeze tag. Your team's goal is simple, freeze as many players on the opposite team as you can using Immobulus. When time is up, the team with the most unfrozen players are the winners. You are allowed to dodge a spell if you can manage. You're also allowed to unfreeze members of your own team if you come across them as you're running around, but be careful not to get too distracted and find yourself frozen in the process. Now I suggest you start moving. Let the casting commence!"

Hi friends! Moving on to the main activity: Magical Freeze Tag!
1. You can either cast a spell at a member of the opposite team in your post, post your charrie reacting to a spell that targeted them, OR unfreeze a fellow player.
2. Please label your posts with the team you're on and the action you're taking.
-Orange Team, Casting on _______
-Purple Team, Hit by (or dodging) Immobulus
-Orange Team, Unfreezing ______

Class will wrap up on March 7th

Okay so...how long was he supposed to hold this pose for? Was Kinsay going to cast yet or not? Will held onto his pose for as long as he could then he felt her spell make contact with him? He wanted to make sure she didn't screw up and maybe put a hole in his stomach or something? That would not be pleasant. He attempted to look down to see but the way he had positioned his neck to look up wasn't moving. His Arm outstretched stayed this way too. Had she done it?! Whoa wow she did didn't she? He looked at her but couldn't smile because he was stuck...which was good because no one should EVER see him smile. Alright cool so she froze him successfully but could she undo it now? She was good at that right? Can Kinsay undo magic?!

It would real swell if she did that too since some kind of game just happened on the Professor's instructions. Can she count her practice spell as her freezing him!? He wouldn't mind if it did and they were on different teams because then he could just sit this out being frozen and stuff. So he wouldn't mind if she didn't unfreeze him now as well. Eh do whatever.

This would definitely be off-putting in a duel or a fight, for sure. In fact, Violet was beginning to feel rather uneasy now--she hoped that Mamie would unfreeze her again soon (she hoped Mamie knew how!)

Mamie was pleased to see, Violet was frozen! And Peralta was telling them to unfreeze their partners now, so she cast a quick Finite on the older girl before giving her fuuuull attention to the instructions. For the game. Mamie loved games.

She went and grabbed an orange headband, then looked to see who was on the other team. Moose? Well, well, Will. Sorry, The Room-mate. All's fair in charms games.

"Immobulus!" she aimed at her fellow second year, oblivious to the fact that he was apparently still frozen from the previous activity.

He had conflicting feelings about the use of magic ever since the Neo-Alliance had taken over the school. On one hand he wanted to abandon magic because he felt uncomfortable sharing something with that group of pureblood supremacists but on the other hand, feeling the rush of magic go through him and casting a spell was truly satisfying and it was moments like these that he realized how lucky he was to get to experience this as someone being born from muggle parents.

A small smile played on his face as he watched Ivy getting hit by the Charm. He watched for a moment, lost in his own thoughts before remembering that this was not a duel but a practice exercise. With another wave of his wand, Minjae quickly lifted the charm on the Ravenclaw and send her an apologetic look. "You okay?"

----

When the professor called to wrap things up, Minjae lowered his wand and turned his head to look at her. With a sigh, he walked over to the desk at the front and grabbed an orange headband. After the desks and chairs were magically being pushed aside he turned to the Professor as he put on his sweatband. "I'm allowed to use non-verbal, right Professor?" or was that unfair? But then again life wasn't fair so...

She was still keeping one eye closed, for the record....... But the curiosity was too much and she did end up peeking. "Did it work?" She waved her hand in front of him to check. Hm. Sure seemed like it worked. Which was really good news, actually! She usually had LOADS of trouble with spells, so this was fantastic. Probably the only good thing that had happened for weeks. She smiled the tiniest bit, before directing her wand at Moose once again and taking a big step forward.

Just as she raised her wand to cast the finite on Moose, a spell hit her instead.

Um.

Oh no. She was stuck!!!!! How was she supposed to unfreeze Moose if they were BOTH frozen!

Team Orange!

SPOILER!!: before the next activity Heath!
Okay! His name was Heath. Noah grinned - actually- grinned. It kinda felt weird to smile like that but... it was nice. “Gotcha.” he had said before readying the spell.

Aaaand his spell had worked!! Success. Maybe next time he ought to try it nonverbally like his mate, Minjae? He quickly ended the spell, letting go of Heath, before lowering his wand. It was only fair to give him the chance to do it too. “Alright.... You’re turn!” he said with a nod and waited to be frozen.

Before he knew it, the practice portion of class had ended and their Professor was moving them into the activity. Freeze tag? This sounded like fun. Noah was about to just jump into the game and start playing; however, he overheard Minjae’s question too.... Which made him curious to hear how the Professor would reply. Non-verbal spells would be a good advantage.....

Noah eyed the options. Purple or orange. Purple.... was a favourite colour of his..... But orange... Orange was his little sister’s. He fished out an orange headband, selecting that before turning over to see which team Heath was joining.

"Want to be my partner?"

If he stood around long enough with the big puppy eyes...eventually someone would come find him. And an older student too so it was a kind of double bonus for him in that regard. Even if...she was a Slytherin. Aboli had left a bad taste in his mouth towards the house, which was an entirely misguided sentiment but HE WAS CERTAIN OF IT.

"Oh...um...sure...yes...please," he stammered and nodded his head lightly while adjusting his hold on his own wand. Atlas felt some sort of way about practicing spells on another person. "You...can go first..." An excuse for a demonstration and also he could procrastinate on actually making any attempts himself.

When the professor called time and told them to break off into teams, it was a true no brainer for the Gryffindor. Purple was his favorite color! So on went a purple headband and then his attention was back on the older Slytherin girl. Did she want purple too or...orange?
